I happened to stop into the cafe shortly before they were closing and just had me a hard cider which I enjoyed outdoors in front of the James River. It is a cute place to stop and get something to munch on while your visiting Jamestown. They have quick snacks and some nice sammies & real food to eat if your hungry. My friend got the minestrone soup which she said was very good. There is a patio that you can sit outside & enjoy your food or snacks on a good day. I also took note of the local items they happened to carry like the fudge and the honey. The staff was also nice & helpful. After spending two weeks stopping in at quick places to eat doing museums - Dale House Cafe was a hidden gem! We ordered a spring wrap and a pulled pork BBQ sandwich. Both were excellent! And, the most inexpensive and satisfying museum meal we had on our trip! I liked that they had options for your side with your sandwich and you were not just stuck with potato chips! As a vegan, it was nice to see a vegan option on the menu and it was so tasty I took a picture of the menu so I could try to recreate it at home! Got the Brie Melt sandwich, which is turkey, Brie, sliced apples and cranberry Mayo on cinnamon swirl bread. Added my Apple cranberry slaw to the sandwich and WOW! Definitely a stellar sandwich. Considering your food options are limited in this place, we were pleasantly surprised with the sandwiches here. Ordered the Baron von Steuben, The US Grant, The Alliance sandwiches with sides of pasta salad, potato salad, and cole slaw. Sandwiches were meaty and the potato salad was pretty tasty. Loved the fact that you could chill out on the shaded patio enjoying the river view and beautiful breeze. If it's too humid to be outdoors, the cafe interior is cool. Great escape from the humidity. The Yorktown Onion is a tasty vegan wrap. Loved the Greek olives, hummus crisp lettuce and cucumbers. Great combination. I didn't give 5 stars because it wasn't a friendly service. read more

We loved this cafe! It was nice to find light, delicious food at a "tourist" location. Gluten free bread $1.99 add on was a little steep in my opinion but I was so excited that I quickly forgot! We ordered The Alliance, The Atlantic and The Godspeed. Worth the money and we loved the view from the patio. If you are traveling and find yourself at Jamestown at lunch time, this is a perfectly wonder place to end up. read more

Seeing Jamestowne should take you several hours if not the better part of an entire day. If not, then you're cheating yourself out of a great experience. But if you're going to be spending the better part of a day eventually you will need to feed thy face. Sadly there are no choices at or anywhere close by except what is served at the Dale House Cafe. Now of course it's not like the NPS is getting into the food business so everything here is handled by a local restaurant company called Carrot Tree Kitchens which bills itself as only making/selling everything fresh, fresh, fresh. Good: * What was purchased actually did taste homemade-fresh or whatever you want to call it. Mediocre: * Apparently they are not big on letting you customize because when I asked about getting the kids PB&J sandwiches on something other than white I was told a resounding "NO" just like when I asked about getting The Atlantic on white instead of multi-grain again it was a big "NO". Bad: * The prices for beverages are a complete ripoff and portion sizes on the side items/soups that they make are microscopic. I mean don't get me wrong, I would rather that this place be here in lieu of the NPS getting in bed with McD's and having ye olde grease pit on the grounds but at the same time the lack of flexibility in the order process is dumb and the prices for certain things are extortionist. read more

The Dale House Cafe is really the only place to eat at Historic Jamestowne, and it's probably the best deli/cafe I have been to in awhile. They have a daily sandwich special, a daily soup, and a variety of different sandwiches, such as ham salad, ham and turkey, etc. We purchased the sandwich of the day (which was ham salad and provolone cheese on a regular white sub sandwich bread), the Tuna Melt, the Alliance, and their roast beef sandwich... the name of which we have forgotten. We all enjoyed our sandwiches, the sides, coleslaw/potato salad/bag of chips, were great! I wish they offered the coleslaw and potato salad on their own with a big bowl of it... because I am a big sucker for potato salad. The beverages that you can purchase are more expensive than what you would find in a vending machine, but what would you expect from a nice cafe that has both indoor and outdoor seating. I would totally recommend you stop by if you spend the day in Historic Jamestowne, great prices and you don't have to leave the park to get to it! read more

Recently visited Historic Jamestowne for the first time in nearly twenty years and wow, has the area grown! Dale House Café is a little gem that literally sits right next to the 1607 James Fort site. It's the only place on the property for purchasing refreshments, and imo soooo worth stopping by at some point during your tour. So, what really got me is how simple the place looks, yet the food is WOW! An important reminder to never judge a book by its cover ~ They offer light sandwiches, soups, a variety of desserts, etc., and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I ordered "The Surry," which is ham salad, swiss, lettuce, tomato. There was no skimping on the ham salad, as it was pouring out everywhere haha! Had to use a fork at one point :) The bread was HUGE and hearty. It came with a side of potato salad, and a dill pickle spear. That potato salad paired perfectly with my sandwich, and was DELICIOUS! I'm a greedy pig, and would've rather had a bowl of it [potato salad] than a small cup, but more fits into that cup than it seems. AND you end up so full from the sandwich anyway that you realize the small cup was just fine ahaha. Big portions, all for the reasonable price of $7.99! :) Since this particular visit was on my Birthday, I took a piece of chocolate cake home with me... Only, it didn't make it home HAHA. I hadn't even gotten out of Jamestown yet, and it was already in mah belly lmao. My God, easily one of the best slices of chocolate cake I've ever eaten in my life. SO good! A couple days later, I was back in the area to tour around a bit more--decided to pop in to buy one more piece of cake, but they were all out. :( Bummer. The kind woman at the register suggested different desserts which all looked good, but I was eyeballing the lemon bars hard. So, I bought one of those. And WOW! Once again, delicious. New Brunswick stew was really good - however, the 1/2 sandwich (turkey and ham) was supposed to come on whole grain bread and it was basic white and they put processed cheese slices on it, so that was a disappointment. read more

We had lunch at the Dale House Cafe while visiting Historic Jamestown during Memorial Day weekend recently. The cafe is located conveniently just next to the original settlement and we had a lovely time eating our lunch outside, in front of the beautiful James River. I ordered the John Smith sandwich, which came with lettuce, provalone, bologna, and this amazing spicy aioli sauce, all on wheat bread. It came with coleslaw and potato salad. Truly delicious! My family and I have spent the last three days in the Williamsburg area. We've eaten quite a few meals and been less than impressed by most. This was a pleasant surprise. The food was still a bit pricey (about $8-9 for a sandwich) but at least the quality was good. I had a tasty 1/2 chicken salad sandwich, creamy tomato basil soup and pasta salad. Everything seems homemade. They have kids meal options as well. Sloppy joe, turkey and cheese, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The kids meals come with juice, chips or apple and a homemade cookie or pastry. All in all it was way better than I expected from a national park cafe. read more

Hot cider and raspberry brownies are a must- try Service was quick and friendly. Small suggestion is to have AC working less on a cold and rainy day like it was today. We were visiting Historic Jamestown and had lunch here today. The space is small, but ample and cool. It also has additional seating outside. The menu featured several sandwiches, a daily soup, salads, and a number of baked goods. We were a group of five and had several meals: pulled pork BBQ sandwich, Italian sandwich, cheese melt, salad sampler (tuna, egg, ham, pimento cheese), and a pimento cheese sandwich. All sandwiches come with a small side which varied--pickled carrot salad, cole slaw, and orzo spinach feta salad. The portion sizes were very generous and could be split between two kids or two not super hungry adults. The pimento cheese, tuna, egg, and ham salads were super tasty and obviously homemade and made fresh. The Italian Sammy was chock full of meats with a tangy oil and vinegar dressing and hot pickles. The pulled pork sandwich was tender and tangy. The side salads were super yummy especially the carrot salad. My sister wanted the recipe and one of the clerks wrote down the recipe for her. So sweet! Speaking of sweets, we sampled the raspberry bar, lemon bar, and chocolate pie (we're on vacation!). All were really good and fresh. Overall, I would highly recommend this for lunch when visiting Jamestown. The staff is super friendly and food fresh and delicious. read more

This was great stop inside the Jamestown National Park. Staff was friendly and quick. Portions were large and sides were so fresh and delicious. I asked about the carrot salad and one of the staff wrote down the recipe for me. Delish! Only complaint was that the tables could have been a bit cleaner as well as the bathroom. Desserts were great -we shared chocolate pie, lemon bar and raspberry oatmeal bar between the five of us. Could not pick a favorite! read more
