Nearly every breakfast/brunch place is pricy for the type of food. But that doesn't stop us when you are out of town. Was in town with my friend for the day and decided to stop here for breakfast. We were drawn in by the menu, which features a lot of dishes you don't usually see at a typical breakfast spot. It definitely has potential, but it didn't quite land for us. The atmosphere: The dining area is spacious with both booths and tables, and there's also a bar inside. I came here with my friend and definitely would not recommend it. I was given dirty utensils twice after I had asked for new one and their cups also seemed dirty. My friend had also asked for gluten free toast but it came out moldy. Luckily I had noticed before she took a bite. Restaurant was empty when we arrived at 7:00 opening. We were greeted, seated and given coffee quickly. We both ordered the lobster and Brie omelets. Not great but ok. It was lobster gravy. My husband got the city grits which were watery. I appreciated the gluten free toast. They also have gluten free pancakes and waffles. I saw a sign for a soft shell crab scramble so we went back the next day. It was wonderful. My husband got the crab cake Benedict. This is probably one of my favorite breakfast spots in VA - Williamsburg. The service is tremendous and our waitress was exceptionally attentive to details and always around when my group of friends needed something. The restaurant sits right by a busy intersection on the road leading to the Colonial Market square and the Outlet, but it is clean and easy to find. I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of the City grits (loaded grits) and it was perfectly prepared. Every bite was delicious and satisfying. The portion was generous and filling. I have eaten shrimp and grits many many times all over on our travels and this was by far the worst one ever!! Tiny tiny shrimp, of which there were 6 , had NO flavor and tasted like they were thrown in as an afterthought. The peppers and onions were still crunchy, and I bit into a huge piece of bay leaf that was not removed after cooking the sauce, of which most of the meal consisted of. Conveniently located at Bypass and Richmond roads, this was a great little breakfast find. Mario was our server and he was amazing! Great personality, very friendly and showed up at just the right time for refills. The food food portions were huge. I had the power bowl, mom had the smoked salmon benedict, and my hubby had the mardi gras omelette. The grits were thick and creamy, the omelette was stuffed full of shrimp and crawfish, and the smoked salmon was perfect and served with all of the accompaniments. We were seated right away and food was out in less than 10 minutes after ordering. The tables could be bussed a little better. The restrooms were very nicely maintained. For our food, I had the veggie omelet, and my partner had the apple fritter French toast. We shared the biscuit beignets. All of our food was hot, and prepared as ordered. I also had a blueberry lemon mimosa which was very good. Overall we really enjoyed the food. There were some smaller inconveniences like being brought a dish of butter when we asked for cream for the coffee, and having to ask multiple times for a straw. The location was very easy to find and the dining room was very clean and up to date. The menu options were plentiful and ranged from basic to dishes for only the discriminating tastebuds. The menu lacked vegan options so I had to "create" a meal by adding and subtracting to an item already on the menu. My dining companion had the Mardi Gras omelette which looked yummy and they enjoyed it very much. The service was good.Bloody Mary . It didn't say it came with bacon on the menu so I had to send it back because of it. But they remade it quickly. A little spicy but not too overwhelming. I would certainly give them another try. When I arrived at another broken egg, I was a bit confused about where to go but the staff was very friendly and pointed me in the right direction. I was at a table with a waitress who was really welcoming and nice. She presented the menu and asked was this my first time. I told her that it was and she offered some wonderful suggestions on the menu for things for me to consider. She also featured the holiday menu that had some limited edition items for me to review. After she did that, she took my drink order, and she went to grab my drink. I decided to order the lemon goat cheese, pancakes, and they came out hot fluffy and delicious. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs with their baked bacon. The food was absolutely delicious. My server kept checking on me to make sure that everything was going well. My family decided to come here on our last morning visiting Williamsburg. The place was not overly crowded on a Friday morning but there were still a decent amount of people. The service extremely slow. We waited about 10-15 minutes after we were sat down before any waiter showed up to ask us for drinks. After they showed up, we waited another 10 minutes before we got our coffees. I got the hash brown Benedict and the city grits which was really good and my wife got the biscuits and gravy which was decent. Generally, when I'm out of town I don't prefer to eat at establishments I can visit back home with the exception of Another Broken Egg Cafe and that's only because I was put on to Another Broken Egg while out of town THEN they finally brought one to my state last year. Nonetheless, I digress. That said, this particular location missed the mark for me. The food just was not up to the quality I've known to expect from ABEC. The eggs seemed fake unlike the other establishments which use real eggs, cracked fresh and prepared to order. The eggs here were definitely giving liquid batch eggs. The pound cake French toast was also off. Not sure if it was previously frozen or just not prepared properly but something was off. They were dry and crumbly while I'm used to them being pillowy soft and melt in your mouth. The pound cake french toast is actually one of the reasons I feel in love with ABEC, next to the strawberry mimosas! My son enjoyed his bacon and cinnamon roll pancakes. The chicken apple sausage was tasty, my son enjoyed that as well. The service was great. I would definitely be back to visit ABEC again, just not sure it would be this location. As for the other dish, the pancakes were solid but we received moldy bread which immediately made me lose my appetite. The space felt cozy but not crowded with country-inspired decor. Service was friendly, but was not super quick (but this was understandable due to our large party). They have some creative specialty brunch items; I tried a croissant French toast dish. It was very tasty, although I don't think the croissant worked as a French toast as well as maybe another bread choice. It just felt like a flattened croissant that was slightly toasted and dusted with sugar. I appreciate the creativity though, and the spicy chocolate ganache worked well with the sweet bread and tart berries. Over 93 locations and the closest one in the north east tri-state area is the one in Williamsburg, VA. The dessert menu looks like fire and I had my heart set on ordering the biscuit beignets, pro-tip - you can order a 1/2 order of this side, however they were out or we were too full, to be honest I do not recall but one thing I am certain of if I make it here again they will be ordered if in stock.
