James River view

We ate here on a Friday night for a much awaited date night. The restaurant was empty except for two other tables, but that was fine for us. Our waiter was great. The view of the river is outstanding. The dinner rolls were just ok, but the butter was very tasty. We had the filet and pork chop. Both were surprisingly good, especially given some of the poor reviews. We would not hesitate to return. We utilized the kids night out - well worth the money to have some adult time!

We stayed at the kingsmill resort where this restaurant is located inside the main building. We decided to dine for nye and we were glad we did. Upon arriving they were running a little bit behind but we were able to sit at the bar even though we had our little with us with no problem. (Some places make a big deal having a toddler on your lap even for 5 min) shortly after we were seated at our table. They had everything already set and ready for us. Our waiter was excellent and attentive, which was refreshing since it was jam packed. Also the food was absolutely wonderful! Fresh, hot, and just right! I was shocked to see they made small accommodations even on such a busy night!

Nice view from our table too!

Just had a really nice dinner with my wife and kids. The staff were attentive and professional. The food was 4 star quality and on par with cost. Had scallops and my wife had salmon. The kids had a burger and chicken fingers. (Also had three starters that were killer). I had a little of everything and all was great. I was considering not trying the place as the overall Yelp rating was low. So glad I decided on giving it a shot! I'd say I'd be back but I'm only here for one night and live in California.

Veal chop is the top plate. Pork chop is the bottom plate. Both were medium rare and absolutely delicious!

When I got to the restaurant I asked if they had horse radish: no. Au jus: yes. I wanted a piece of Carrot cake but I thought $18 was exorbitant. I opted for the pecan pie instead. The online menu said they had some crispy chicken dinner... It was no longer part of the menu when I arrived to the restaurant.. My significant other is allergic to shellfish, and does not eat pork... There weren't a lot of entrée options for him because there was pork all over the place. I did order him some salmon since he could not get the chicken. He liked the salmon. The broccoli had no flavor on it. And the brown rice pilaf was equally Bland. The brisket sandwich was ...okay... but dipping it in French onion soup calling it onion jus.... It just pissed me off. I think the menu was overpriced for tourists. The staff seemed to be doing the best they could. I guess I'll continue my hunt for the best Friend dip in Williamsburg. I'm down here a lot.

I don't know what the difference is between this Rick's and the other ones, but this one feels the most authentic and just what a cheese steak should be. The seasoning is simple, nothing overpowering. The bread could use more toasting, but it compliments the meat seasoning very well. When it comes to Cheese Steaks, it doesn't get more authentic and true to taste than this. I like the fact that they also have some great chicken cheese steaks (the fam isn't a fan of straight steak) with the same level of attention to detail as the original. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're in the area. it's a big, big, win. Food Taste: 5 Overall Service: 5 Value of service to cost: 5 Facility: 5 Ambiance: The inside is very simple. The Philly egg rolls were tasty, but I wish there was more cheese. But it had a good crisp. We got the buffalo garlic sauce, which tasted very much like pure buffalo sauce. So if you like buffalo, it's a good choice. The inside had graffiti on the walls and felt very urban, giving the city vibe. The service was nice and fast. There is plentiful outdoor seating as well! Thank you for the food as we travel from Hampton Roads to Northern Virginia!

Holly was our server and she took good care of us. She had several recommendations from the menu. From that, I was sold on the wings, and got the 8-piece ($13.50) with garlic Parmesan sauce. My wife got the chicken quesadillas ($8.29). Everything was excellent, except the upcharge for using a credit card to pay. Finally, I want to add that I loved the local (i.e. not where all the tourists go) neighborhood vibe with lots of sports memorabilia.

In addition to an 8 oz. patty, the buns are soft, they don't overwhelm the burger, and they hold together. Love that! You can build your own burger or choose from their selections, which include blue cheese burger, a burger topped with North Carolina BBQ, the Bourbon one with an onion ring, bacon, and cheese, and a grilled cheese with a burger. Plus there are a few more. Quite the variety! They also come with a side. The burgers were good--not overly seasoned. The Tuesday night we went, the place was packed by 5 pm. They had two birthday parties happening. Service was really friendly and helpful, though a little slow, probably due to the number of customers. It took 30 minutes for our burgers to arrive. I don't know if they take reservations, but we walked in and were seated right away. Parking is free and right out front. They have several TVs on the walks so you can watch your favorite sport.

Exceptional! Our server Jaedin was terrific. The only aspect to mar our visit was a snippy, snarky little-bit-of-a-thing hostess who never made eye contact and barked at us when we asked to be seated in a booth... said they were reserved, but we ordered, ate and finished and two booths remained open. We were there for a Monday lunch, can't speak to the dinner service. We also weren't drinking alcohol that day, though I thought the beer flights looked tempting. One of us had a cheeseburger that was requested to be "pink" and was overcooked and just blah. One of us had a chicken salad that was served with no chicken. Someone from the kitchen rushed out with a soup bowl filled with chicken slices that looked like those Perdue rotisserie chicken slices you buy at the grocery store. Dumped them on the salad. She did apologize. Our third order was a Restaurant Week special fried oyster salad vouched for by our server, Bailey, who was pleasant and efficient. It came with corn, black beans, mixed greens, cotija cheese and a spicy dressing. It wasn't awful but I think the overall concept was weird. Fried oyster taco salad? The few oyster pieces were tasty. Maybe we were there on a bad day, which happens. The chicken salad fiasco was funny. Not a place I would drive across town to try twice. Maybe stick to burgers and plenty of beer.

They also came with fries or onion rings, funnel cake fries, and a drink of your choice. Two of the guys had the root beer and said it was pretty good. Now as for the dogs, the two guys that had the coneys were happy with them, although one was hoping for a little more spice from the chili, but it was by no means bad. The burnt ends dog was said to be pretty freaking good. As for the American dog, we'll that was a different story. It wasn't a bad dog, but it tasted like it had been boil cooked and not cooked on the griddle. Additionally, it wasn't really that warm. I guess warm is a good description for it. It would have been better if it was hot and you could see some cooking marks on it. Alas, it was and had neither. But again, it wasn't a bad dog, but it could have been much better. The onion rings were pretty tasty though, as were the funnel cake fries and crinkle cut fries. This night was Wednesday, so it was trivia night. At 6:30. At about 6:00 people really started to come in, and by 6:30, the place was packed. Guess trivia night is a big hit... The people working there were super friendly and you fealt as if they were happy to be there. I would have given it 5 stars, but tbe warm dog just brought my experience down a bit. But don't let that stop you from going there, because you'll probably have a good time with good food and good people.

The fresh catch meal included a simple house salad, and it took 30 minutes for the salad to arrive. Shortly after the salad arrived, our meals came out, and they were lukewarm. I had the grilled mahi mahi with lemon dill butter over some roasted fingerling potatoes and corn. While the fish itself was a nice piece and well prepared, its not-quite-warm temperature made it less appetizing to eat. The same was true for our other meals: the seafood pot pie and the mahi mahi fish tacos. While our waitress offered to have them all reheated, we both didn't have time as we had theatre tickets and reheating the tacos with their toppings, the pot pie with its pastry crust, and the seared fish didn't sound appealing. The restaurant's dining room was comfortable, and the bar area looked vibrant. Hopefully they are still breaking in their new facility, as we liked dining with them in their previous location.

We went on a Sunday afternoon at 3 PM and were promptly seated. The atmosphere was fine, pretty open and unexceptional, but modern and new. Big screen in front of us playing the Sunday football game. Server was quick to get drink orders in, 12 oz. Commonwealth Modern 'Smores stout for $8 and my wife got a $16 Peppermint Espresso Martini. I appreciated the nice Commonwealth stout and the price was fine. The Peppermint Espresso martini was mediocre and very overpriced considering that. Our food took a long time. Like 3 apologies from the server long. There were 2 parties of like 10 that were in process when we sat so I get it. But I do feel like something should be given when it's 45 minutes plus on food. Anyway, on to the food.... My kid is not much of an eater and they did not have any type of kid menu. Ended up with a soft pretzel for $13. Add cheese fondue and it's $16. It was very big and delicious.... At $16 it's hard to be excited about it though. The cheese fondue definitely made the pretzel. I was not overly hungry and got She crab soup $8.50 for the cup and a Caesar salad $5. The soup was good, they add the crab on top so you can see they give you about half a cup and for the price it was good. Definitely not the best she crab soup in the area, but good enough. Caesar was just croutons, Parmesan and dressing and was fine. My wife got the "fresh catch" Chilean Sea Bass for $33. It was kind of fishy tasting. Fresh fish is rarely fishy. It was overcooked, horribly plated and the blackened seasoning had minimal flavor. It was bad. We asked for some tarter for it and it made it tolerable. The server offered to replace it, but having just waited 45 minutes for food we weren't going to chance something else, particularly since we were with another couple. While we were waiting I had 2 $3 special Budweisers and my wife had a $14 Snowflake Margarita. They were all fine. My kids sprite was $4 which feels outrageous, but I don't know what places are charging these days for sodas. I normally don't pay attention. Bill came with another apology for all the waiting and no discount. Tough to make it as a seafood restaurant when you are struggling with your seafood. I heard their seafood nachos are excellent.... Maybe I'll give them another chance for those. My first experience was not a good one.
