A great little spot for lunch! While found in an unassuming little strip mall, its location is perfect as it's near the outlet malls. We were wildly surprised at the quality of the food as we weren't sure what to expect walking in. The decor is adorable and the menu varied, something for everyone. The edamame and shrimp tacos were quite delish, with a solid serving size and great flavor with just enough kick. Service was polite and quick, truly kind folks working there. Good little l spot to stop, especially after some shopping.

Oceans & Ale - Seafood Nachos

Oceans & Ale

A group of four of us were excited to finally go to the new location of Oceans & Ale, and I'm sorry…read moreto say that we were disappointed. The fresh catch meal included a simple house salad, and it took 30 minutes for the salad to arrive. Shortly after the salad arrived, our meals came out, and they were lukewarm. I had the grilled mahi mahi with lemon dill butter over some roasted fingerling potatoes and corn. While the fish itself was a nice piece and well prepared, its not-quite-warm temperature made it less appetizing to eat. The same was true for our other meals: the seafood pot pie and the mahi mahi fish tacos. While our waitress offered to have them all reheated, we both didn't have time as we had theatre tickets and reheating the tacos with their toppings, the pot pie with its pastry crust, and the seared fish didn't sound appealing. The restaurant's dining room was comfortable, and the bar area looked vibrant. Hopefully they are still breaking in their new facility, as we liked dining with them in their previous location.

We went on a Sunday afternoon at 3 PM and were promptly seated. The atmosphere was fine, pretty open and unexceptional, but modern and new. Big screen in front of us playing the Sunday football game. Server was quick to get drink orders in, 12 oz. Commonwealth Modern 'Smores stout for $8 and my wife got a $16 Peppermint Espresso Martini. I appreciated the nice Commonwealth stout and the price was fine. The Peppermint Espresso martini was mediocre and very overpriced considering that. Our food took a long time. Like 3 apologies from the server long. There were 2 parties of like 10 that were in process when we sat so I get it. But I do feel like something should be given when it's 45 minutes plus on food. Anyway, on to the food.... My kid is not much of an eater and they did not have any type of kid menu. Ended up with a soft pretzel for $13. Add cheese fondue and it's $16. It was very big and delicious.... At $16 it's hard to be excited about it though. The cheese fondue definitely made the pretzel. I was not overly hungry and got She crab soup $8.50 for the cup and a Caesar salad $5. The soup was good, they add the crab on top so you can see they give you about half a cup and for the price it was good. Definitely not the best she crab soup in the area, but good enough. Caesar was just croutons, Parmesan and dressing and was fine. My wife got the "fresh catch" Chilean Sea Bass for $33. It was kind of fishy tasting. Fresh fish is rarely fishy. It was overcooked, horribly plated and the blackened seasoning had minimal flavor. It was bad. We asked for some tarter for it and it made it tolerable. The server offered to replace it, but having just waited 45 minutes for food we weren't going to chance something else, particularly since we were with another couple. While we were waiting I had 2 $3 special Budweisers and my wife had a $14 Snowflake Margarita. They were all fine. My kids sprite was $4 which feels outrageous, but I don't know what places are charging these days for sodas. I normally don't pay attention. Bill came with another apology for all the waiting and no discount. Tough to make it as a seafood restaurant when you are struggling with your seafood. I heard their seafood nachos are excellent.... Maybe I'll give them another chance for those. My first experience was not a good one.

Two of us wanted lighter food tonight, so we had grilled salmon in a house salad and the shrimp and brie appetizer. Our third diner had the red fish with shrimp, over some grits. Everything was enjoyable.

I placed an order for twelve york river oysters, a Bloody Mary, and the fried green tomatoes. The bar was small and intimate with two televisions, both on football games, and other customers who were friendly and social. My drink arrived first, and while very flavorful, for $13, I found it to be on the small side. I've gotten a larger Bloody Mary's of equal quality at other restaurants for less money. I think you should work on either the price point or the portion size here. The oysters arrived properly iced with lemon wedges and generous portions of cocktail sauce, horseradish, and terrific garlic butter. They were perfect. Shortly after, the fried green tomatoes arrived. Such a disappointment. The presentation was excellent, the diced red tomatoes a nice color accent, but the green tomato slices were wafer thin and were overpowered by the pimento cheese, totally wrecking the flavor profile of the dish.....the portion sizes should have been reversed. They were the absolute thinnest slices of tomato I have ever encountered on a serving of F.G.T. The dollar special on the oysters is enough to get me back in, but I will reexamine my menu and drink choices on my next visit.

Too bad the nearest one is in Williamsburg, so it's like a 2.5 hrs drive for me. We only come here when we go to Busch Gardens or Great Wolf Lodge. Or, if we are passing Williamsburg going back to DC. Yesterday, I had an appetizer and entree of like 4 plates of crab legs! The only real variety with my dinner was with the dessert. LOL I love this place! The service is always on point and the crab legs amazing. This was my first time going for dinner on a weekday, and it was surprisingly not too crowded. I can't wait to go back again!

However, there were so many options, we decided to try as many as possible. Below is a list of most of the things that we ate and our take on how they were: Crab legs: Good and everyone that had them loved them Shrimp: not very good and pretty overcooked Blue Hawaiian drink: was very good Yellow macaroni and cheese: tasted bland and not very good White mac and cheese: a little better than the yellow but not by much Korean wings: pretty good with a nice Korean flavor (probably gojujang) with a little spice Cheddar biscuits: pretty freaking good Hush puppies: kick ass Haddock: pretty good Broccoli: a bit mushy but not bad Small vorn cob: bland and unremarkable Sausage: was basically kielbasa and not too bad Mussels: were edible Clams: pretty good Peach cobbler: not that good German chocolate cake: pretty freaking good Pulled pork: not so good Sirloin steak: was meh, not super or bad just meh Yellow rice: not very good Bannana pudding: best thing eaten, out of this world Pumpkin pie: pretty good Chocolate puddin: seemed a bit off There was no phone signal i side to speak of so dont plan on using your phone in tbere. The Bathroom were pretty clean Amber was our waitress and was great. She was preemptive on getting our drinks refilled and removing the used plates. Great job Amber. Although there were a few things that just didn't wow us, by and largemouth things were pretty good. There was never a shortage of foods out at the multiple buffet lines. It wasn't cheap at about $50 a person, but if you can pack it away or like the crab legs, its probably well worth it for you. Its a nice place to go once in a while to get your crab fix.

When I got to the restaurant I asked if they had horse radish: no. Au jus: yes. I wanted a piece of Carrot cake but I thought $18 was exorbitant. I opted for the pecan pie instead. The online menu said they had some crispy chicken dinner... It was no longer part of the menu when I arrived to the restaurant.. My significant other is allergic to shellfish, and does not eat pork... There weren't a lot of entrée options for him because there was pork all over the place. I did order him some salmon since he could not get the chicken. He liked the salmon. The broccoli had no flavor on it. And the brown rice pilaf was equally Bland. The brisket sandwich was ...okay... but dipping it in French onion soup calling it onion jus.... It just pissed me off. I think the menu was overpriced for tourists. The staff seemed to be doing the best they could. I guess I'll continue my hunt for the best Friend dip in Williamsburg. I'm down here a lot.
