This is only the second steakhouse I've had in the area since I've been coming to Williamsburg. This one was by far the best. The service was great. Not only the server but the manager and 2 others came and spoke to us. It was my daughter's birthday and we were in a rush. The server got her a brownie to go with a little candle. It was very nice. The steak was the best. The filet and the strip had different tastes and they were both great. They were also perfectly cooked. Amazing. The seafood trio was the same. Perfectly cooked. The sauces were different under each item. The crab cake sauce was very good. The sauce under the scallops was my favorite. They were cooked amazing and so buttery. The shrimp was also perfect. No complaints. My daughter loved the Mac and cheese and it was also a huge shareable portion. This is by far our new date night place. 10/10 recommend read more

We celebrated our anniversary here at one of our favorite restaurants. Treated as royalty and we knew we would get the star treatment for our special occasion. We started out with Calamari Frittata then our entrees were Crab cakes for me and lamb chops for Hubby. We were surprised by the non alcoholic champagnes served by Matthew whom we recognized as being a superb server. We have dinned here a few times and sorry to say always disappointed. This time Jason the waiter was rather rude also forgetting to fill my wine glass to the proper fill line. No attention to if we were enjoying the meal or if we required anything else. To top it off I waited 15 minutes and when my ice cream desert had not arrived I asked why? Twice in the past week, and meals were excellent both times! Steak dinners one night, Seafood another night. Crab cakes were definite winner that night, but the halibut was very good. Opus 9 is a very nice restaurant The ambience is nice. It's definitely for adults. Lovely decor. Our service was impeccable Waiter was great Our problem lies with the food. I had the stuffed shrimp. It was way overcooked shrimp was tough to eat and the potatoes au gratin well it lack flavor. Also, we have the salmon. Salmon wasn't bad, but it was way too much glaze on it. We also had an appetizer which was the calamari excellent, very tender and with that I had a salad, spinach salad. It was very good but they put way too much dressing on it. I should've had the dressing put on the side and we had the seafood bisque. It was just OK. We may go back, but it'll be for lunchtime like a sandwich and try it then otherwise I don't think we'll be back to for dinner read more

I will say, in my opinion, the food is good but it's not necessarily the best thing i've ever had. I feel like every plate was good, but mediocre. There wasn't anything we really raved about. I feel like all dishes would've tasted a bit better with more spices. Was on a golf trip and we went here for a "fancy" dinner (8 guys). This place is a typical higher end steakhouse. Nice atmosphere, good menu, and a bit pricey (expected). With alcohol, like 100-150 a person. We got a bunch of side dishes, salads, main meal, and dessert. I ordered wedge salad, blackened filet (8oz) with potatoes au gratin, and bananas foster cheesecake that is on fire when served. Definitely recommend this place! read more

Went today for lunch for my husband's birthday.Such a let down! First let me say that Wren, our server, was a delight. The food was such a let down. My husband ordered the prime rib sandwich which was little more than a french dip where someone brought the au jus 5 min prior to his being served. Seriously, there was NOTHING prime rib about it. Diner grade shaved beef with cheese on a roll with mediocre fries. I ordered the calamari which stated "flash fried" It was greasy calamari topped with fried to death leeks. One roll served butler style and fancy butter from a pasty bag supposedly honey butter which was meh at best. We are new to the area and we test out restaurants at lunch and I can tell you we won't be back for dinner. Three stars are for Wren! read more

From the time we were seated at the bar we felt uncomfortable. Wednesday night jazz night at an empty bar? We shortly knew why. The atmosphere or the lack there of was cold and we felt out of place although we are local. I have never in my life left under 20% tip. Tonight was the night at 13% he didn't deserve that much. I must commend the kitchen because the food was delicious. It was just the whole experience that left us disappointed. We won't be back and will probably let our friends and neighbors too. As locals Opus has been one of our favorites since they opened tonight was no exception. We enjoyed a wonderful family dining experience with our server Jake. The seafood tower appetizer was delicious. Wine and cocktails were great and even enjoyed a delicious chocolate martini for dessert. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the staff went the extra mile with flashlights to ensure it. Went in to meet a friend for drinks and sat at the bar. The bartender was helpful and friendly. The bar, décor, and atmosphere is nice and mostly upscale, as you'd want from a nice steakhouse. They have a decent wine list and their by-the-glass selection was substantial as well. Everything was very nice at the bar, the only issue I had was observing some cross-contamination issues, such as sitting cherries on the bar mat while completing the cocktail and they using bare hands to handling things like that cherry and others. Then not washing hands in between doing other activities. Kind of grossed me out and made me happy I was just drinking wine. read more

service was good, nice ambiance. food very overpriced. whenever you see " Chilean sea bass" on a menu, run. there is no such thing, although the fda in 1994 allowed toothfish to be labeled as such, it is neither a bass or from Chile. a genuinely good restaurant would not have this on the menu at all. btw, i tried it. served on a tasteless bed of rissoto which was not actually risotto. it was not the melt in your mouth experience that toothfish should bring, so it was probably a fraud. other items served at our table were very good. fabulous liquor selection. i just dont think this " high end" restaurant deserves this merit. my check 100+ for appetizer, main meal with two sides, a drink, and dessert with coffee. read more

Reservations are a MUST! We have taken care to frequent Colonial Williamsburg for decades; Probably the Christmas season is our favorite, and the long hot humid summer is the season we avoid. Any frequent visitor to Greater Williamsburg is in for a culinary treat; we focused our first few years on Colonial Williamsburg dining, and we still recommend the historical taverns. Caveat: Explore Greater Williamsburg dining because there are wonderful options. I am reluctant to specify our favorite restaurant; however, OPUS 9 Steakhouse is always a must dine visit during our colonial holiday. I do not wear my Continental Army General's uniform to this restaurant (I may wear the uniform to colonial taverns). OPUS 9 Steakhouse is one of Williamsburg's best; OPUS 9 Steakhouse is a handsome property, with handsome ambience. Servers are well trained, and we have enjoyed excellent experiences. We recommend calamari as appetizer. She: Lump Crab Cake or the filet depending on her mood. He: Boneless Ribeye. 'Tis fine that we reside in Marriott's Manor Club at Ford's Colony during our colonial visits because we will have boxes to go. I had the seafood trio which was just ok so would recommend the Chilean sea bass or a steak. My husband had a filet with au poivre and it was pretty good but not the best filet he's ever had. My husband and I dined in for my birthday expecting a comfortable dinner, they sat us in a room to the left that has cheap seating, wobbly at that. Tables in that room are all close to each other, I could hear dude behind me chewing but the reason we won't be coming back is because though having open dining in the main room it was strange for a certain demographic(black) to be seated in the same room while we kept seeing others being seated in the main room. My husband and I are in Williamsburg for a weekend without the children. This is one of the best dinners we have ever had. The honey butter is to die for. Came on 12/30 to celebrate a milestone birthday for my husband which I told them before we arrived. Our service was slow and then the salads and appetizer came out at the same time after waiting forever. My filet was tough and my husbands crab cakes were mostly filler and very wet on the inside. It was an extremely disappointing night which should have been special. They added a small happy birthday placecard on the table except nobody actually acknowledge it. I'm not really a desert eater, but I splurged and had a beautiful glass of port wine and the crème brûlée . The crème brûlée was the best I've ever had. It even beat the crème brûlée I had in Paris. Went to Opus 9 for dinner the evening. Our first time there and was greatly impressed by the level of service, excellent food, and atmosphere. We arrived early for our five o'clock reservation and was immediately seated. Our server was Eden, a great asset in that he was on his A game with us. He took time to explain the available entrees that would part of the Marriott Fords Colony dinner package they have. I had salmon and smashed potatoes with seafood bisque and New York cheese cake. The Admiral had Busti steak, sweet potatoes, New York cheese cake cake, with wine. The food was scrumptious and Eden took very good care of us seeing to our needs and providing refills on our drinks without us running out. Great conversation with him about the food and our options. We saw a good crowd start to come in just after we arrived and saw him draw a party of 8-10 people while he was serving us. Dry impressed with Eden's service and the way he treated us. I would highly recommend this restaurant. When we left I spoke with the manager and told him of our great experience and that Eden appeared to be a great asset to their operation there. read more

We LOVE Opus 9!! Service is wonderful. The one thing Opus is NOT.... pretentious versus other fine dining establishments. The staff waits on tables without hovering. A conversation can be held without interruption from someone sweeping away crumbs, topping off water glasses or refolding my napkin. The next table sat a young couple clearly on a budget and having a celebratory dinner. They asked for items that could be shared.
