Wanted to take my sweetie for a steak for his birthday and this place didn't disappoint. From the moment we walked in, it felt welcoming and cozy. Our server Lorna was delightful. They brought out crackers and spreadable cheese which was a nice surprise. The fresh hot mini rolls were so good with salted butter. Lorna warned us not to eat too many of the snacks before and to save room for dinner. We got salads with blue cheese which was homemade. You can really appreciate a homemade dressing because it was thick and flavorful which made the crisp greens even better. I had a kettle one orange cosmo which was perfect. Not too much alcohol and shaken to perfection. There were many cocktail options and a great selection too of wines to choose from. Hubby tried a Negroni but didn't love it. (Didn't care for the gin) I asked for a different bourbon manhattan and they didn't charge us which was super nice of them. I had my New York strip medium with a baked potato. Hubby got the porterhouse also with baked potato and a side of broccoli. The steaks were cooked exactly how we asked for them. They came with a tray of sour cream, fresh bacon bits and chives for our baked Potatoes. So nice to have that service at the table. We were too full to order dessert, but Lorna brought out a small dish of ice cream a/ brownie and a candle to sing for hubby's birthday. We discovered Aberdeen Barn after moving to Williamsburg last year, during this year's 4th of July. My visiting family of all ages wanted a real steakhouse. We didn't want some white tablecloth Opus 9, but we also didn't want some basic Longhorn's. Aberdeen Barn fit the bill perfectly! My brother's family loved it and so did we. Filet mignon fantastic and perfectly cooked; blue cheese dressing on the fresh, crispy salad wonderful. Everyone was very happy with their meal. We now consider it our local place for steak. So glad we found it! Just my husband and I visited again tonight for prime rib (excellent) and our server, Mr. Harris James, deserves a shout - he was such a treat! We will request him next time. Our first visit here. Highly anticipated. Nothing to brag about. Very overpriced!!! And we know good food and don't mind paying for it at all!!! I ordered shrimp and scallops. The shrimp were tough as shoe leather. The scallops were salty. You could visibly see the salt on the outside breading. The water tasted like creek water so I ended up ordering a soda which isn't my usual go to. Water is. Oh the bread was delicious tho. Warm and very tasty!!! My daughter's chicken tenders were good. It's our last night in VA., so we all wanted a steakhouse that locals love. We picked the Aberdeen Barn on Richmond Ave., Williamsburg, VA. We enjoyed their food and atmosphere a couple of years ago. We were seated right away and the restaurant inside was a barn board with wooden post and beam. Our waitress, Lorna, was great. Our grandson was thirty, so she kept bringing him glasses of water. We had sirloin and prime rib steaks which melted in our mouths. We also had lobster tails and all the fixings: steak fries, rice, broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes and baked potatoes. Everything was great and cooked to perfection! We truly enjoyed our culinary experience at the Aberdeen Barn. All our food was served hot and atmosphere was relaxed and felt like home. Great food, great wait serve and a wonderful experience with our family. If you're in Williamsburg and want an excellent steak and/or mouth watering seafood, this is the restaurant you want to experience. This is one the local's favorite places to eat. If you are in Williamsburg, VA, you have to go to Aberdeen Barn for a meal. We were very fortunate to have acquired a coupon for Dinner for Two at $56.99. The server told us (Table of 5) we only need one coupon. Everyone got the 3 course meal for $28.50! Started out with Wisconsin cheese and crackers. The server brought out ciabatta rolls. We all had dinner salads with a choice of dressing. (House-made bleu cheese was amazing). Then we had a choice of Prime Rib of beef, grilled Top Sirloin or Mahi Mahi w/ shrimp. For the final course, we had a small dessert of brownie with ice cream and whip. Perfect end and just enough. Went to Aberdeen Barn for my birthday with 10 family members - 7 adults & 3 children.. Our server, Hubert, was excellent. Our table was ready when we arrived with ice water & the cheese platter ready to go. We ordered steaks, prime rib, ribs and seafood. We enjoyed the rolls and butter. They were crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside. As an appetizer we ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp. I was different. Ok yall, let me tell you. So we walk in after VERY long and hot day of walking in Williamsburg. Our eyes are heavy, our legs are sore, and hangriness loomed around the corner. Immediately we see water and cheese waiting for us at the table, and not long after the most delectable bread followed! (Emphasis on DELECTABLE!!) Our server was funny, compassionate, and quick. And it didn't take long for the food to arrive! Now listen, when I tell yall that this was THE MOST tastiest steak ever, I mean THE MOST. Yall I cannot stress to you how amazing the steak was! SO SO GOOD Words cannot describe how good. I am very picky about my steak, like I do not want ANY gristle or over cooked parts. But this steak? This was the closet I've ever gotten to heaven. Perfectly pink, not too bloody, but not overcooked. Not too soft, but not too tough. They must have had a Michelin star cook back there or a voodoo woman at the least, because I have never had a better steak in my life. We made reservations for 430pm and we were seated promptly at that time. The atmosphere has a barny look with tables and chairs with arms. The booths are low but comfortable. The female bathroom has been remodeled with three smaller stalls. We ordered our food which were lamb chops cooked medium and barn fries. The delmonico steak cooked medium well. The salad was fresh and cold. The bread was hot and melted the butter in no time. When I cut into my lamb chops, it was cooked perfectly. They were seasoned and just needed a tad bit more flavor. Just moving in to Williamsburg from Michigan after years of visiting. We have passed Aberdeen Barn dozens of times but never stopped because it has always been busy. It is early February, the hordes of tourists are gone and I stopped there to check it out. One word: Wow! Upon sitting down, I was serviced by two waiters and presented with a plate of sharp cheddar spread and crackers and a menu. Reminds me of the Angus Barn in Raleigh, but not as large. The menu is extensive. On the table was a special offer for extended Restaurant Week that could not be overlooked. Surf & Turf for a great price. My choice was a no-brainer. The first course was a delicious corn and shrimp chowder. It had a bite that was perfect for the sub freezing weather outside. It was accompanied by a basket of hot bread. The house salad was generous and came with a choice of dressings offered at table side. The main course was medium rare prime rib was outstanding: juicy, tender and generous. It came with a baked potato and horse radish. Along side the slice of beef were three nice sized lobster claws. This is a combination that cannot be beat. All for $49. The meal was accompanied by a glass of California Cabernet from their extensive wine list. Needless to say, I had no room for dessert. The review would not be complete without a shout out for my waiter, Winston, an older gentleman from Jamaica whose attentive service was with a big smile. This spot may have been here since I went to college in town in the last millennium. In all that time, I haven't ever been here. Finally I had a chance and can't believe I've waited this long! My sons wanted steaks so here we were. It is an old school Williamsburg spot and boy was I happy to start a new tradition. It is formal, dark, and stuffy which was just the way I wanted it. Most of the wait staff have been here a long time and know their jobs. I felt like I was in a new income bracket just being waited on. We started off with crackers and cheese which was like a Christmas cheese log. It tasted great. I got it because we thought our teenagers would like it and they did. Also got the bruschetta for the adults, but unfortunately they enjoyed it too! Plate wasn't hot, the au jus wasn't hot and the Prime rib certainly wasn't hot. Having said that, our excellent waiter made it right bringing out another serving. But the damage was done. Makes you wonder how a steakhouse serves cold steak. I know prime rib is cooked for hours before the restaurant opens, but not heating it on the grill prior to service and on a cold plate makes me scratch my head. As locals we've been to the Barn many times. We ordered drinks and then a family with 4 young kids was seated at the closest table. Two of the kids immediately began shrieking and screaming, and that continued for the next hour, so loud we couldn't have conversation at our own table. Parents were completely ineffective. The bottle of wine we ordered early on to have with our steaks wasn't delivered until most of us were nearly done with our meal. We paid our bill and were getting ready to leave when the waiter said that he hadn't added the wine to the bill and we had to pay it all over again. On our way out I asked to speak with the manager. I told him about our unpleasant experience. He blamed the problem on our "woke" society. I didn't dignify that nonsense with a reply. He did not offer to comp the wine and actually said that WE should have asked to be reseated. Very disappointing and not at all what we expected from Aberdeen Barn. read more

It had been many years since I had been to this particular Aberdeen Barn. I've been here a couple of times and to the Charlottesville location a couple of times, but hadn't been to either in about 10 years. So, when I knew I would be in the area for business recently I made reservations here for a group of 5 for dinner. What I recalled about Aberdeen Barn from my past visits was the it was dark, cozy, and had "old style" steakhouse type furniture, with barrel chairs. I also recalled the crock of cheese and pretzel sticks and the visible dry-age locker when you walk in. Upon entering this time, I was so taken aback from how bright it was that I completely missed if the dry-age meat locker was visible. The furniture and everything else was exactly the same as I remember, but they REALLY need to reduce the lighting in there... This is not the place you make bright, especially with the older style furniture that they have. Aside from the décor and venue not being what I remembered and expected, the rest of the visit and dinner was excellent! Harris was our server and he was spot-on what I recall about the service there, which was very friendly, "down home southern" style accommodating, and helpful. He did a great job taking care of our group, keeping us informed on our food and telling us about preparation and everything as we went. The food was great! And for the prices, it's a nice deal! We started with their bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops and both were really good! Definitely nice, large shrimp and scallops and great, fresh flavors! Next up were the salads that came with the entrées and those were decent. I like that they bring a few dressings and pour them for you tableside. Entrées were next and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The steaks were cooked just right and were flavorful. I like a nice, char-grilled steak with simple salt & pepper and that's what it tasted like. Sides were nice too. Save room for dessert, they have a decent selection of desserts to choose from. Those were definitely enjoyed as well. I'd return, but it might be a long time until I do as I'd prefer the ambiance of what it used to be more than what they've turned it into. "Don't modernize something that doesn't need it!" In fact, if it weren't the the great service provided by our server and the food being so nicely done - I'd give this review 3 stars instead of 4, simply because of the increased lighting. read more

My sister and I had a 6:45 dinner reservation on April 17. We were seated right away and our orders ( lamb chops and pork chop) were presented to us very quickly. This attention was important as a large 2-table group was seated right after we were. This resulted in a lot of noise and a crowded situation.
