Top sirloin steak w/baked potato

If you are in Williamsburg, VA, you have to go to Aberdeen Barn for a meal. We were very fortunate to have acquired a coupon for Dinner for Two at $56.99. The server told us (Table of 5) we only need one coupon. Everyone got the 3 course meal for $28.50! Started out with Wisconsin cheese and crackers. The server brought out ciabatta rolls. We all had dinner salads with a choice of dressing. (House-made bleu cheese was amazing). Then we had a choice of Prime Rib of beef, grilled Top Sirloin or Mahi Mahi w/ shrimp. For the final course, we had a small dessert of brownie with ice cream and whip. Perfect end and just enough. The place inside looked like it hadn't been updated in 30 years, but didn't take away from the experience that we had. It was clean and well maintained.

While visiting Williamsburg for a friends birthday, we chose Aberdeen barn for her birthday dinner. The hospitality was great! They allowed us to move our reservation back and Rob was a great server. We enjoyed the rolls and butter. They were crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside. As an appetizer we ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp. I was different. I probably would try a different appetizer next time. The steak was cooked well and overall we all enjoyed our meals. Ambiance was consistent with a barn very casual.

The reputation built for this establishment: superior food, excellent service, quiet atmosphere, were all on grand display for my wife's birthday. Mike made the visit more pleasant, and the bartender made some of the best chocolate martinis in the region. But of course the food; prime rib superb. Delmonico prepared properly, and 6-oz filet was just right. A memorable night made more special by "The Barn".

We made reservations for 430pm and we were seated promptly at that time. The atmosphere has a barny look with tables and chairs with arms. The booths are low but comfortable. The female bathroom has been remodeled with three smaller stalls. We ordered our food which were lamb chops cooked medium and barn fries. The delmonico steak cooked medium well. The salad was fresh and cold. The bread was hot and melted the butter in no time. When I cut into my lamb chops, it was cooked perfectly. They were seasoned and just needed a tad bit more flavor. The steak was cooked just the way it needed it to be. It was seasoned and just needed a tad bit more flavor as well. We had sea salt and peppercorn on the table so that added what we needed. This is our 1st time here at this location. We have been to the NC location a few years ago. Our server was good and not over the top.

Seafood platter was great.

This spot may have been here since I went to college in town in the last millennium. In all that time, I haven't ever been here. Finally I had a chance and can't believe I've waited this long! My sons wanted steaks so here we were. It is an old school Williamsburg spot and boy was I happy to start a new tradition. It is formal, dark, and stuffy which was just the way I wanted it. Most of the wait staff have been here a long time and know their jobs. I felt like I was in a new income bracket just being waited on. We started off with crackers and cheese which was like a Christmas cheese log. It tasted great. I got it because we thought our teenagers would like it and they did. Also got the bruschetta for the adults, but unfortunately they enjoyed it too! Everyone enjoyed their steaks, but I went with a seafood platter that was exactly what I wanted and tasted as good as I hoped. It came with shrimp, scallops and some fish I forgot (sorry). I went with mashed potatoes and wasn't disappointed. I can't wait to go back to Williamsburg so I can try to convince the family to return.

Service was fantastic. Unfortunately the food didn't have the wow factor that you'd expect for a higher end steakhouse. My medium rare prime rib came served up cold. Plate wasn't hot, the au jus wasn't hot and the Prime rib certainly wasn't hot. Having said that, our excellent waiter made it right bringing out another serving. But the damage was done. Makes you wonder how a steakhouse serves cold steak. I know prime rib is cooked for hours before the restaurant opens, but not heating it on the grill prior to service and on a cold plate makes me scratch my head. The rib was tender, but lacked seasoning. I had to go in with table salt and pepper. Overall the food is ok. Not bad, but not worth the $120.00 tab for 2.

I didn't get a photo but the steak was the highlight of the dinner. It was perfectly cooked and super flavorful. The fish was a little over done but the scallops were amazing. It's a little dark inside but it's a nice barny feel. The waiter was amazing. He had great suggestions and was quick to get anything we needed. I'd definitely say, get a reservation if you're going on the weekend.

The waiter was very accommodating. The food was very good, the prime rib was top tier! It was cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth! The ambience was great. Would go back again and get another prime rib and the tuna bites!

For starters I got the French onion soup which came out in about 20 minutes. Soup was very solid and had more of a purée taste which was surprisingly good. The pasties especially the chocolate croissants were also delicious. After another 25 minutes the main dishes came out. I got the fillet which came with a peppercorn glaze (amazing!) and crispy potato pie. Fillet was cooked to correct medium rare temperature and tasted delicious! For desert, I got the cheesecake with raspberry! It was really rich and delicious! The raspberry puree provided a nice tart taste to go alongside the sweetness! Staff were very friendly and the service for this entire meal was about an hour thru. A very delicious place restaurant that I'd gladly come back to if I'm in the area! The fresh catch meal included a simple house salad, and it took 30 minutes for the salad to arrive. Shortly after the salad arrived, our meals came out, and they were lukewarm. I had the grilled mahi mahi with lemon dill butter over some roasted fingerling potatoes and corn. While the fish itself was a nice piece and well prepared, its not-quite-warm temperature made it less appetizing to eat. The same was true for our other meals: the seafood pot pie and the mahi mahi fish tacos. While our waitress offered to have them all reheated, we both didn't have time as we had theatre tickets and reheating the tacos with their toppings, the pot pie with its pastry crust, and the seared fish didn't sound appealing. The restaurant's dining room was comfortable, and the bar area looked vibrant. Hopefully they are still breaking in their new facility, as we liked dining with them in their previous location.

We went on a Sunday afternoon at 3 PM and were promptly seated. The atmosphere was fine, pretty open and unexceptional, but modern and new. Big screen in front of us playing the Sunday football game. Server was quick to get drink orders in, 12 oz. Commonwealth Modern 'Smores stout for $8 and my wife got a $16 Peppermint Espresso Martini. I appreciated the nice Commonwealth stout and the price was fine. The Peppermint Espresso martini was mediocre and very overpriced considering that. Our food took a long time. Like 3 apologies from the server long. There were 2 parties of like 10 that were in process when we sat so I get it. But I do feel like something should be given when it's 45 minutes plus on food. Anyway, on to the food.... My kid is not much of an eater and they did not have any type of kid menu. Ended up with a soft pretzel for $13. Add cheese fondue and it's $16. It was very big and delicious.... At $16 it's hard to be excited about it though. The cheese fondue definitely made the pretzel. I was not overly hungry and got She crab soup $8.50 for the cup and a Caesar salad $5. The soup was good, they add the crab on top so you can see they give you about half a cup and for the price it was good. Definitely not the best she crab soup in the area, but good enough. Caesar was just croutons, Parmesan and dressing and was fine. My wife got the "fresh catch" Chilean Sea Bass for $33. It was kind of fishy tasting. Fresh fish is rarely fishy. It was overcooked, horribly plated and the blackened seasoning had minimal flavor. It was bad. We asked for some tarter for it and it made it tolerable. The server offered to replace it, but having just waited 45 minutes for food we weren't going to chance something else, particularly since we were with another couple. While we were waiting I had 2 $3 special Budweisers and my wife had a $14 Snowflake Margarita. They were all fine. My kids sprite was $4 which feels outrageous, but I don't know what places are charging these days for sodas. I normally don't pay attention. Bill came with another apology for all the waiting and no discount. Tough to make it as a seafood restaurant when you are struggling with your seafood. I heard their seafood nachos are excellent.... Maybe I'll give them another chance for those. My first experience was not a good one.

When I got to the restaurant I asked if they had horse radish: no. Au jus: yes. I wanted a piece of Carrot cake but I thought $18 was exorbitant. I opted for the pecan pie instead. The online menu said they had some crispy chicken dinner... It was no longer part of the menu when I arrived to the restaurant.. My significant other is allergic to shellfish, and does not eat pork... There weren't a lot of entrée options for him because there was pork all over the place. I did order him some salmon since he could not get the chicken. He liked the salmon. The broccoli had no flavor on it. And the brown rice pilaf was equally Bland. The brisket sandwich was ...okay... but dipping it in French onion soup calling it onion jus.... It just pissed me off. I think the menu was overpriced for tourists. The staff seemed to be doing the best they could. I guess I'll continue my hunt for the best Friend dip in Williamsburg. I'm down here a lot.
