Sure I get the cost of inflation but two bagels and a croissant shouldn't add up to $35. Bagels $3.00 each -$6.00 Cream cheese $2.00 on each $4.00 Proteins $3.00 x 3 two on one bagel and 1 on the other. $9.00 Egg $2.00 on each $4.00 Croissant $6.00 $29.00 before taxes Not to mention that we were charged for a sausage patty when they were in fact out. Didn't get a refund nope. Staff is unfriendly, unfamiliar with what items that actually have and don't. Not to mention how slow they are. They aren't under staffed if anything they are over staffed with people just lallygagging about. We got a S'more's croissant that had an ungodly amount of bakers dark chocolate inside that made it undeniably terrible to even eat. The center was still pure dough. We said this last visit that we thought we were done eating here and today this visit solidified our decision. We definitely don't recommend this establishment. We ant even say their coffee is good. I really WANT to like the Bake Shop. I do. But the quality just keeps going downhill. The prices have always been high, but this is a wealthy tourist town, so I get that. There aren't really many other options in the area, so there's no competition. I get that. The menu has changed for the worse, getting more expensive in the process. The last time that my wife ordered a bagel and cream cheese, there was only enough cream cheese to cover half of one side. That's a quarter of the bagel. There literally was not enough to smear and cover half of the bagel. Today, I ordered a "Big Bird Baguette " sandwich. On the 10" baguette, it had: two 2" round slices of cheese, two 2" round slices of sundried tomatoes, about a tablespoon of basil spread, and four slices of low-quality chicken. It's absurd. This is NOT a $12 sandwich! This is on the level of something you might find in a vending machine in a hospital cafe. The service is usually quite prompt and friendly. One of my favorite spots to grab breakfast in Williamsburg. My only issues is the price but, to be honest, it is worth the cost. The Bake Shop is as the name indicates. It is a bakery. They make their own bagels along with other delicious treats that are proudly displayed as you order. My go-to is always the Asiago bagel with the scallion and dill shmear. They are good about really loading up their bagels with lots of cream cheese. Outside of my normal go-to, their sandwiches are also great. You really can't go wrong with any of them but my personal favorite is The Burg. Word of warning - this place is very popular with the students. If you try and go here on a Saturday or Sunday morning around 10am when college is in session, expect to have a lengthy wait in line. read more

So lucky me to catch them after school was out and even score parking up front, The location is just blocks from W&M campus. Parking is 10 minutes in front which can be adequate for pick up, nearby is an hour if eating on the patio, The place is a small walk in. Grab and go beverages and order at the counter. Menus are on the island as you walk in. The bottle drinks were luke warm on a very hot Williamsburg day. It was hard to not be tempted by their pastries, but I showed restraint. The staff was super friendly and helped a first timer decide on a bagel sandwich and drink. Price is fair these days and can tip on the machine. My salmon on everything was delightful. I paired with a bourbon (non alcoholic) ice latte which was super yum! Enjoyed on their patio under and umbrella. Only drawback is everything is grab and go or patio. Adorable place, that is simple and puts the baked good first. We got the black garlic and sea salt bagel as well as the sticky bun. One of the best bagels I've ever had perfect texture and wonderful flavor. The sticky bun was massive, great consistency, and not too sweet. For the life of me I don't understand how this place has less than 5 stars. I come down to Williamsburg probably 2-3 times a year and the Bake Shop is always a must. Their Burg bagel sandwich (I always get mine on a black garlic and sea salt bagel) is the best. Their baked goods are always so interesting (strawberry corn meal cookies, banana pudding blondies and a churro croissant) (the latter looked spectacular but I didn't want to subject it to a train ride back to DC) the service is efficient- the only issue I can see is that there is really no place to wait out of the way for your order without blocking people trying to get in. I find it surprising that this is our only brick and mortar bakery in Williamsburg, if you miss the farmers market it's your only choice for preservative free bread. I like how substantial the sandwich on a bagel is-- it was yummy and satisfied me as a brunch until dinner time. They also do flavored lemonades, teas, and coffee drinks. Food prices are about average for CW, but the drink selection is smaller and pricier than other nearby options, like Aromas. If you're looking for something gluten free, give this a skip-- you'd be better served by the nearby Blackbird Bakery. They might have a line going out the door on a weekend morning, but it goes pretty quickly. There's no indoor seating, so you wait and sit outside until they text you that your food is ready. Masks are recommended but not required while inside. It's relatively easy to park nearby. All in all, it's worth a shot if you like baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. read more

Warning! Do NOT eat here for health safety concerns! I recently went here and ordered 3 things, a pecan sticky bun, a white chocolate cinnamon scone, and a sandwich called the Italian Veggie. The sandwich was ok fundamentally, I enjoyed the fresh veggies on it, however, the bread was badly burnt and made the sandwich taste terrible. I was willing to accept the burnt bread, but what I found in the scone was unacceptable. As I was eating my scone, I found a piece of metal in it. I took this back to the shop, and they said that this happens frequently, saying that the pans they use to bake items on are quite old and falling apart! They offered to compensate for the metal-filled scone, but I declined, since I was a little afraid to eat anymore of their baked goods due to foreign objects being in the desserts. I threw away the sticky bun I had ordered for fear of this. Furthermore, the line to get this food is always long and was not worth the wait. And while you wait in line, there are huge bags of flour that caused me to sneeze frequently, and I do not have a wheat allergy, so those who are allergic to wheat need not enter! So if you are thinking of going here, I highly recommend you do not! I had high hopes for this place, but they severely disappointed me. All the online orders took precedence over in person orders while I was standing there for 30 minutes. While I understand online orders go in order, there should be some balance between executing online orders and in person orders. I came here over a year ago and fallen in love with this shop. We came TWICE during our 3 day stay. I wanted to take my family this time around. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be coming back. The bagels are like what everyone is saying- BRICKS. Don't get me wrong- i like thick bagels but this one is just massive. They definitely need to have a lesson on bagel making. Additionally, every sandwich I had was very scarce in between. If I wanted a sandwich like that- I would have gone to Dunkin Donut. Do not waste your money at this place. We went here for lunch with high expectations and were all greatly disappointed. I ordered the Southwest Hammich on an Asiago bagel and it was terrible. Everything on this sandwich was ice cold! Even the fried egg was precooked and cold. I was at least expecting the bagel to be toasted, but again cold and not toasted. Absolutely no effort. I could have made a better sandwich using bagged bagels from the grocery store. We also ordered a cookies and cream scone which had absolutely no flavor of cookie, and the only sweetness came from the small amount of icing drizzled on the top. The lemon muffin was also a disappointment and didn't have enough lemon flavor. Then to make matters worse, they had no ice so we had to drink very warm water from tiny cups. I don't like writing bad reviews, but they really need to get their act together. Times are too tight to be wasting money on bad food. Hopefully they'll see this review and make some changes, but next time we come to town, we will definitely be skipping The Bake Shop. read more

The baked goods sounded so interesting, we chose all of the ones that appealed to us that we couldn't really find in other stores. The turnovers have a nice flaky pastry. The biscuit and gravy was our favorite of the day! The Blueberry is not overly sweet with a good ratio of filling to dough. The creme brulee brioche Danish was a bit disappointing. There was no crisp to the burnt sugar, and the bread was a little dense for my liking. I was told the sticky buns were what they're known for. They are good, not too sweet and smothered with a cream cheese icing. I warmed it up in the microwave slightly and it tasted even better! Overall, it's a fun place to get a few treats. Went here on Saturday morning 11am. Expensive for what you get. Super long slow lines out the door. Chewy bacon (they precook it that way and won't do special requests for well done bacon/crispy, etc.). The everything bagel had very little everything seasoning on it. Ok. First of all, the black garlic and sea salt shmear is next level!! So delicious! The bagels are big and soft and generously covered (if it has a topping). My main complaint is the last time they kind of skimped on the shmear. Didn't happen the first time and it's really their own fault that I was upset about it. Kind of the spot that you visit and the people working there think you are an interruption to life. I'm maybe third in line as the cashier spends, I'm not kidding, 10 minutes talking to the first person in line about her weekend. They were obviously friends catching up. Which is wonderful.
