This is my second and last visit to the Yorktown restaurant. The first visit was a door dash delivery order. I took into consideration that the food was being delivered and did not knock the food temp. I got the shortys special and full cakes. The home fries tasted as if they had been cooked yesterday and reheated. the over easy eggs ended up being well done, not runny yolk. The pancakes were fine. Very poor experience at Shorty's today! No opportunity to even try their food as the cook WALKED OUT mid-morning on a busy Sunday! Our party waited for nearly 30 minutes and noticed that 4 tables became available yet no one was being seated. Upon asking, we were told that they were avoiding seating people as their cook quit and they were in a tough spot. It was unclear if they were even going to inform the customers who were waiting! The family we were visiting indicated that service has been declining at Shorty's as the owner opened a second restaurant in Richmond and diverted the reliable waitstaff to the new restaurant. It's unfortunate that Shorty's has not continued to support the Williamsburg restaurant. We enjoyed brunch at an alternate location this morning. Maybe Shorty's can get their act together and continue to effectively serve their customers in the future. read more

We visited Shorty's Diner this morning and had a nice time. The inside is very cute with a 1950s diner theme. Lots of red and white checkers with red accents. It was also very crowded and loud. The pancakes were very dense and hard to eat, but the flavors were good. The savory food we got to go with our sweet pancakes were very good. The coffee was poured very hot (don't try to sip it right away) and they only had half and half to mix in. The servers were all friendly and attentive. They flipped tables so quickly so the wait times probably aren't bad. Our server also gave me a fresh cup of coffee for the road, which was nice and unexpected. read more

My family was visiting the Williamsburg area and we decided to try this place. There are a ton of breakfast places to choose from here and this place stood out so we decided to try it out. Everybody liked their food and the staff were incredibly welcoming and kind. The ambiance of the restaurant was cool with all the different pictures and a giant statue of The King. We all got something different, but I forgot to take pictures of everyone's food except for a side of French Toast I got. I would return to this place if I were to come back to this area. read more

I have never eaten to a real deal diner other than the commercialized Silver Diner. So I don't know what to expect but to hope that it will be awesome. We ate here on a Sunday, lots of people already waiting for their seats. It took about 10 minutes for us to be called. Our server came to greet us and took our order, drinks first, then next round she took our entrees. She's very nice and made sure our orders were right. The wait for our food to come out was not bad at all. The food was great and their pancakes were HUGE! I love their pancakes, the texture was great and taste was awesome. When we asked our hotel front desk attendant where we should go for breakfast, before we finished the question she said "Shorty's". We discovered why she was so enthusiastic. The wait staff were amazingly friendly and swift and the food was excellent. My husband had the Monte Cristo breakfast. We've had several versions of this breakfast sandwich, but Shorty's by far, is the best. I had their eggs Benedict's which was very tasty with very generous portions of potatoes. Shorty's has the lovely, old fashioned feel of true diners and we enjoyed it tremendously. read more

Classic diner fare, but a bit better in that they have breakfast burritos and specialty omelettes. We were looking for an easy breakfast to take back to the hotel before hitting Busch Gardens and this popped. It was an easy 5-minute drive from the hotel and had food ready in under 10 minutes, so I was back in less than half an hour. The breakfast burrito with sausage was good, if nothing too stand out. The home fries were the same. The kids' pancakes were genuinely delicious. My wife enjoyed her Cuban omelette. It all kept us going until a late lunch, which is really hard to do. read more

We just left your diner and was absolutely appalled by the immature and unprofessional behavior of your staff. The ladies were obnoxiously loud and rude. They were arguing with each other, one was making fun of her table patrons, one was complaining of how little money she made today, then another lady literally blocked a customers number when they were calling because the waitresses said she/customer was annoying. We had to sit and listen to this utter disrespect for 45 minutes!!!! We should have got up and left mid-meal! The owners should be embarrassed! Where is your management?? Shorty's has been here for a long time, and I don't think it's going anywhere in the near future either. I love a local "mom'n'pop" spot and would rather support local than restaurant chains, so Shorty's has my vote. The breakfast burrito is always a winner, as is the Cuban omelette, but if you're exceptionally hungry - you need the breakfast sampler. Two plates for a very fair price. Do yourself a solid and come here one day. Great people serving great food, and the owner is usually about checking in on people to make sure they're having a good day which adds a nice touch. A lot of history in this place, you'll see it on the walls. But what I love most? Yelp came to the rescue within the time I whipped out my phone lol. My in laws were visiting and lunchtime grumbles were being heard. We were driving to Williamsburg, and needed a soup and sandwich spot. There was spacious parking and seating took a few minutes. The menu is extensive, and our waitress was fast, friendly, and accommodating. I ordered the hot pastrami and Swiss which was served on rye bread with guldens mustard. As for the side, I opted for the potato salad. The hubs had the fried thick slice German bologna topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo on a brioche bun. In addition to his potato salad side chili was ordered as well. My in laws had the triple decker club with made in house fries, and a turkey rueben with chicken soup. The food came out in a timely manner. My pastrami and Swiss sandwich was ok. The bread was toasted nicely, but it was soaked in butter, and had a heavy hand in the mustard department. It was challenging to taste the pastrami when the mustard can be overpowering. However, the potato salad was delicious. My better half's chili had a sweetness to the sauce, but the bologna hit the spot. Overall we would come back to eat their other offerings. I would love to try their turkey Rueben ;) read more

I got the home fries which has onions and peppers. That was the way to go. The pancake batter is the kinda sweet one which went nice with my coffee or milk. Service is fast. Food is good. This is 1 busy restaurant. Coming down the road, it sneaks up on you, and you are making a bee line before you know it. There was no wait for as busy as it was on a weekday afternoon. People were enjoying their meals here and each other's company. This diner has Elvis greeting the public, guitar in hand (of course, a statue). There is plenty of room for all, including a counter for extra seating. To the food, hubby's Pastrami with Swiss on toasted rye was excellent. He had potato salad as a side. It was really good, he said he could have made a lunch out of that! I was not so lucky, I asked the server if they could do hamburgers rare, and she assured me, "No problem." This came with fresh cut fries, I thought I was in for a treat! As they say, dream on. The burger (1/4 lb) came out with the upper bun on the side. I took 1 bite and voila. It was well done.So disappointed, plus the fresh cuts were warm and starting to become tough and gummy. It was hard to get that busy young lady's attention. Finally, I asked another employee to send her over. And when she arrived I showed her the welldone burger, she apologized all over herself and had the kitchen redo the entire order, she told them very emphatically, RARE. The 2nd attempt came out well done again. I gave up and had French fries for lunch. I would not send it back again. That's just asking for trouble. Gotta say the coffee was good.
