Then I had the Cowboy burger with sweet potato fries and my wife had the Volcano burger with fries. The burgers were big, juicy and flavorful. The fries were great too. We drank cocktails. I had the Island Coconut Crush and my wife had the Butterfly Mule. They were both refreshing and delicious. Been going to Wharf Hill for many years. I usually get the same thing....Shrimp and Fried Green Tomatoes. I decided to try something new. BTW, their Fried Green Tomatoes with Remoulade Sauce is amazing! Today I got the the Grilled Fish Sandwich with Onion Rings and an order of Mozzarella Sticks. I have had the Mozzarella Sticks before and they were amazing so I had a taste for them today. But today they were WAY undercooked. I was very disappointed today. I probably won't ever get them again. That killed future cravings for them there. The fish sandwich on the other hand was seasoned so perfectly well! The breading with the lettuce and tomato was killing the taste so I took it off so I could savory it, it was so good! Stopped by to grab a quick drink. Did not try any food but did check out the menu and will come back to eat some of the delicious food items that they had listed. ! Sat at the bar and the bartender was helpful with helping my husband pick out a beer. She gave him two different samples and he found a beer to drink. It was later afternoon on a Saturday but the bar area was busy but it seemed like everyone was being taken care of and the food that came out looked yummy. Came here with a group of 8 on a Friday night. We arrived and gave our name to the hostess and then waited at the bar area to enjoy a drink until our table was ready. This took about 20 minutes which was fine. It was a bit crowded standing at the bar area and you could tell the servers were a bit annoyed with people getting in their way with nowhere else for us to stand. Not sure we had any other option. Went here as were about 25 minutes away camping at Chippokes. What a fun location. Everything from the history on the menu to the diverse amount of decorations everywhere. The fries were crispy (we asked for extra crispy) and have a great flavor. Don't know what seasoning was used though. The steak was perfectly prepared (we got Med Rare) and the mashed potatoes we good. The best part of the mashed potatoes was the brown gravy....it had the taste you get from grandmas house!!! Seems this old building was a funeral home / crematorium. All the wood, tables, everything are from original historical buildings. As I understand the story, the kitchen area now - was the crematorium. Well, whatever they were "cookin", some deliciousness with a side of "fried green tomatos" was on the menu. I admit I've been sleeping on this hit, local's gem. My father-in-law and husband snuck in here for some drinks at the bar while my mother-in-law and I kept shopping so when we came to find them we were pleasantly surprised. It's been "on the list" for many many years but I always stick to what I know and hadn't come inside. Well, I really loved it. The decor is old pub, they have personalized glasses that people make themselves and leave hanging at the bar and join their insider drinking club they host. Cute idea and really fun. The bartender was super friendly and talkative and told us all about it. Large menu with tons of options to please virtually anyone, but think American pub food mostly. If you are going as a group. I would highly recommend car pooling. Parking is limited because of the location. Beer is delicious. This seems like a place that I would have loved in my early 20s. Of course, my standards were much lower then. The service was poor. She forgot straws. We asked for more. She forgot those. She forgot napkins twice. Finally got up and got my own. The seating seems like it was salvaged from a building that was being torn down: it's uncomfortable and not level. The table was so uneven that things kept falling over. The beers that were made in-house were mediocre. Not bad, per se, but not very good. In fact, that could be the overall theme for the whole experience: "Not bad, but not very good". We ordered two burgers and a Reuben. It took more than 30 minutes for that order to arrive. The burgers were tasty, though WAY overcooked. The bun had light scorch marks like it was toasted, but was actually cold and tasted barely cooked. It would have benefited greatly from actually being toasted. We had specified explicitly that we all hate pickles. All three sandwiches came to the table with pickles. My wife's Reuben was half sauerkraut, and she had asked for it to be on the light side. It also lacked 1000 Island dressing, and the meat had a strange taste. Not bad, just... off. I used to tend bar in brewpubs like this and I really wanted to like this place, but... it just wasn't great. read more

Everytime we've been here we get something different and it's good everytime. I wish they'd keep the calm strips on the menu all year round because they're easily the best appetizer! The fried green tomatoes come in second and we get them everytime. The flights don't disappoint either, they always have something good. Went with my husband and dad this evening. I had the fish and chips and so did my dad, my husband had the volcano burger. All of our dishes were cooked well, they really do fry items well. I came with three guy friends during a day trip to Smithfield. The server let me sample two beers and I though the IPA and After Church amber both had a nice flavor, but they were a little warm in terms of temperature, maybe the sample glasses had just been washed. One of my friends got the After Church and there was practically no head on it at all. If you work in a brewery, I'm sorry, but you have to know how to pour a draft beer correctly. I ordered an Irish Red ale and it was smooth, malty, and crisp, really a good selection. I got the brat burger with mustard and caramelized onions. the onions were cooked perfectly, just a tiny hint of sweetness to enhance the burger. The brat burger was pretty good, but I felt like it needed a little bit of crunch to take it over the top. It was a nice old timey pace to stop by for a brew. I'd drop by again to dry a different beer when I visit Smithfield again one day, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way just for a return visit. read more

I LOVE this place! The atmosphere is fantastic! They have the best fish and chips! We have never had a bad meal from Wharf Hill! I have a food allergy, and the staff is so understanding and willing to check with the chef to accommodate me. When my friends and family come to visit from out of state, this is the place I take them to! I can't recommend them enough! A nice ambiance, beers were decently priced. The service was friendly but a bit slow. Took about 45 minutes to get the appetizers ordered and the food another 30 after that and there were a few times we had to flag down someone to get the drinks we ordered, but I think it was one server for the whole place, food came out warm but tasted great, I got the shrimp po boy which was really good and the fries were exquisite. What really frustrated me was the service, after delivering our food, our waitress never returned until we were done eating. No water refills or check-in. We had an outing in Smithfield today and decided to try Wharf Hill since it has decent reviews and looked enticing. We walked in right as they opened (11:30am) and were sat immediately by the hostess. We were given a small 2 top in the main dining area. Our server was very nice, didn't check on us too little or too much. We ordered pretzel bites with queso as an appetizer. It was good but would've liked a bigger portion. The queso was really good. My boyfriend ordered the CBR Wrap with Onion Rings and I ordered the shrimp entree (I chose blackened shrimp rather than fried) with onion rings. It took a little while for the food to come out but it seemed like the kitchen was maybe having some problems because everybody in our room got their food at just about the same time despite ordering separately. The shrimp were a little small but decently priced considering how much seafood costs has gone up. The onion rings were GIGANTIC. One was as big as my hand. The breading could've used a little more seasoning but overall everything tasted great and we took leftovers home. Our server left us a nice thank you note and we tipped 20% !! read more
