Service was good. I sat at the bar and was on the phone with a friend for dinner. Bartender was friendly and I had what I needed when I needed it. Grilled oysters were okay. I had a 4oz filet. I asked for rare. Was cooked more blue, but I was happy with that. No offer of steak sauce. Fine with me because I prefer salt and butter. Baked potato was actually great! Mac and cheese was not anything to write home about. Salad was huge - took it back to my hotel. Haggerty's was busy in a small-ish town for a Thursday night. I don't drink, so no comment on any alcohol except to say the Cosmo looking drinks at a table nearby looked great in frosty glasses. There were a few large groups lingering and chatting. Several other single eaters at the bar who seemed happy. Some family style meals going on - groups of 4 or 5. Overall, I'd say this is good spot to go for a steak if you're craving one. Haggerty's was recommended by a local and I'm glad I visited. This family-owned, family-friendly restaurant is visited by locals and regulars like. There's something on the menu for everyone, from surf-and-turf to chicken tenders. As a starter, we opted for the Hot Honey Cheese Balls, which are... you guessed it... deep fried, breaded balls of (pimento?) cheese. These are super filling, so pace yourself if you're also getting an entree. For my main, I opted for the 4oz cheeseburger and it was absolutely awesome. The patties were crispy on the edges and the lettuce was fresh and crisp. The burger tasted like the those at a counter service type of place. She was so friendly and helpful. They had a March special on drinks and I decided to have The Pot of Gold which was 1800 coconut tequila, grand marnier, and pineapple juice.. it wasn't too sweet.. it was so good! Working in the area (Halifax) late and consulted Yelp and this was highly rated and near my hotel. Drove by and there were couples waiting outside the door. I parked and thought I'd try my luck. Turns out there were open seats at the bar. The menu has a large variety of steaks and salads as well as some seafood options of course a full bar. I chose the scallops and they were grill perfectly. They tasted very fresh and were a great choice. The house made sauce was not needed but was well balanced and tasty. I also enjoyed the vegetable side and the side salad. Huge, cooked to order steaks which were delicious and served by a cheerful staff. They have specials and we choose to share the Sirloin Special with 20oz of tender steak and sides per person. They divide tue steak any way you want and serve on separate plates. Oh and you also get a seeker of scallops or shrimp. See photos! Steak was cooked to perfection medium-rare! You will not walk away hungry or disappointed. Service was excellent from start to finish, with frequent checks throughout the meal. We literally never had to flag anyone down as they were always asking if we needed anything, no matter how busy it got. It's a mom and pop type ambiance where the neighbors know one another and a kind stranger even chased me out the door when I accidentally left my purse. Yes John, I'm saying that people that eat out locally a lot, have a better and often different opinion than someone eating one meal while passing thru - when you eat out locally a lot you can tell which owners care and which owners don't - You don't. No problem we'll eat elsewhere. While at times the food is good, often it's not amazing. I wouldn't call it bad just plain. Most good reviews are from folks passing thru and yes it's better than most in RR but that's not saying much. For locals it's probably overpriced for mediocure food. Easy to be "great" when there's no competition! As you can see from the owner's response he's more about ego than quality. Funny, getting advice from John, as I own three successful businesses in the area (none are restaurants) what we know, that clearly John doesn't is - a customer's experience matters more than his ego. read more

Traveling through Roanoke Rapids we stopped in for dinner. A local favorite. For a small town steakhouse, it was pretty good. Full bar with bar seating. Sports on TV. Outside seating as well if you prefer. We ordered 12 oz ribeye and 4 oz filet. Both steaks were very, very tender! About 1/2 - 1" cuts. Sides were salad, mushrooms and baked potato. All good. Seafood (shrimp or scallops) available for surf and turf option. Service and server (Brittany) was excellent! Only thing in my opinion that keeps from being a 5 star was the flavors, while good, just didn't "pop". Average, tender, flavorful steak. No draft beers but tasty selection of bottled beer with cold mugs. Sports bar atmosphere. Probably one of the better local non-chain restaurant in town. Worth a visit. read more

I found myself in Roanoke Rapids a couple of times this year for some family matters and hadn't been back since childhood. On my first visit over Easter weekend, I decided to skip the chains and try a local spot -- Haggerty's Steakhouse. What a great decision! Arriving just before the dinner rush, I took a seat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and attentive, and after hearing why I was in town, she went above and beyond -- sharing local history, introducing me to other staff members who even knew some of my family background, and making me feel completely at home. That night's ribeye, loaded baked potato, and salad were outstanding (even for a Texas boy!), and while I'm not traditionally a dessert person, the rich, layered chocolate pie was very good! A few months later, I returned and was greeted like an old friend -- they actually remembered me! The couple next to me, who were also passing through, couldn't stop raving about their burgers, so I tried the peanut butter and bacon cheeseburger -- which was surprisingly fantastic. As someone who travels all over the U.S. and is usually just another face in large cities overrun with chain restaurants, both visits to this small-town gem made my trips so much more enjoyable. Great food, genuine service, and people who treat you like family -- it compelled me to write a review and thank them! I had a solo dinner here last night. Just found this place in yelp search and this was a highest rated in full service dining in the town. It was a hit maybe home run and great choice. Not a fancy place but cozy with bar and country feeling setting room. Since I was alone last night, had a small appetizer oyster dish. A fresh and rare bake which I like and a few condiments all good. Then I had Rib Eye steak and small salad and steam veggies were included. I think few other choice of side but this steam veggie was a good choice not over cooked as many restaurants anyway. Steak tasted kind of simple with a few spices but meat it self had great flavor and no sauce or additional taste necessary. I add a bit of horseradish, and that added a little kick. Completely different from my usual New York Style steaks but was great. Not often I satisfy with non regular steak dinners but last night was. Not only place and meal but my waiter and their staffs are all friendly and once to out of tower first time guest. I will comeback to this place and highly recommend this place your dinner. read more

I have eaten here twice while traveling for work. The service is good, the atmosphere is nice, the salad is good, the steak is good, the baked potatoes are not good. Spent the night in Roanoke Rapids and asked the hotel clerk where to have dinner. She suggested this locally owned restaurant. The restaurant was a little busy for a Tuesday nite but, I was seated immediately. The restaurant is small with an expanded outdoor section. I ordered the salmon with steamed vegetables even though this is a steak place. The salmon was perfectly prepared with my favorite seasoned steamed vegetables. Enjoyed the meal. My only issue is with the wait time between ordering and when my meal came. I would come back and try the steak ext time. read more

A great family steak restaurant - think Texas Roadhouse not Capital Grill. We probably were the only non-locals in the restaurant. Driving through Roanoke Rapids this place had the best reviews. The food is solid - no frills - fairly priced and the service attentive. Highly recommend if you are ever in the area. The locals all know about it I had the strip steak and cooked exactly to order - medium rare. It was tender and well seasoned. It came with a large side salad, baked potato, and Texas Toast. Nothing fancy but all good. The beers were basic and cold. The brownie cake was like the food solid. The owner roamed table to table and was super friendly. He was the entertainment chatting with each person - "not eating the crust [of the Texas Toast]? That's the best part." He's a former referee/official and has tons of stories to be told. read more

Nothing else to review as their butcher must be a witch/warlock for meat that good. Put Lugers to shame for a $36 10oz. 2- Whipped butter and sour cream. Why are you reviewing this ... one might ask? Because it's the little things that count. Did he open the door for you? Did she grab a napkin for you when she pinched one for herself? Same concept ... whipped soft chilled butter and sour cream in perfect little cups with a rich tasty goodness. It's caring for the customers at its best. Please take note NY spots serving FROZEN personal butter bars. It's butter, not preparation H. 3- pièce de résistance - key lime pie. My fave. Whipped, light key lime filling on a not so sweet graham - cheaper graham's are usually VERY sweet - no good. The perfect flavor profile of the two - outstanding. I could only compare this pairing to McCarthy and Stevie in their Ebony and Ivory duet. Yep - it's that good and made the 5th star a no brainer. We were passing through town and decided to give this place a try - good call! They had a special for two - 20 oz. of ribeye divided however you want; two skewers of grilled shrimp; two salads; and two sides - for $50. Now, my first thought was - sounds too good to be true but let's give it a try. Good call again. I like shrimp and my son doesn't so he had 12oz steak and I had 8 oz and all ten shrimp. He had fries and I had the mixed buttered vegetables. The salads - hard to get a salad wrong - but some places manage to - here, they got them right - fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, ham, cheese and bacon, served in nice chilled bowls. Good start. The steaks - one of the only times I've been to a steakhouse and the server has said 'you shouldn't need steak sauce' and he was right! I've always said if a steak is prepared well - no sauce needed! I ordered medium-rare and my son medium - both were spot on perfect (which I find rarely happens). The flavor was great and the cut was great. The shrimp were nice sized and perfectly grilled! My mixed vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots) were seasoned very well and lots of butter! My son's fries were also done great - slightly crunchy but not too much and seasoned perfectly. I was too full for dessert but my son tried the 'mixed berry lasagna' It layered with custard, and whipped cream with blueberries, white chocolate chips and a mixed berry drizzle. Really good! We had a lovely evening at Haggerty's. There was a bit of a wait, but we ordered drinks from the bar and enjoyed the fire out while we waited. Every one of the staff were great. It did seem like most of the people were regulars, and it was our first time. We were welcomed right in. The food was amazing!! We had the steak and scallops. We were at Medoc Mountain and decided to go to Haggerty's because it was raining. So glad we did. Have been wanting to try for awhile. We did make a reservation but then again it was New Years Eve. Our server was Allison and she was very pleasant ad kept us informed of our order and when we would receive it. I ordered the House Salad and French fries. The house salad is definitely a meal in itself and was very fresh. The fries were Krispy and my friend so good she could have made a meal with them alone. My husband ordered the NY Strip medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. A friend and I ordered the Amaretto Orange Margarita and it was sooooooo good! The atmosphere is casual. The volume in the restaurant was nice and you could easily have a conversation. They do have an outside seating area as well. The prices are reasonable and we would definitely go back. read more

(Saturday, Nov 18) We had a small wait, like 10 minutes, but the hostess was friendly and chatted with us while we waited. The beef stew was flavorful and hit the spot as it was chilly outside. It was full of vegetables and beef and the broth was very, very good. The salad was fresh and full of vegetables and egg. I got the surf and turf, a 6 oz ribeye and skewer of scallops, as my meal. OMGoodness. The scallops were perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned, the steak was tender and cooked perfectly, and the onion rings were very crispy and hot. It was a 10/10 evening. For as busy as they were, our food came out pretty quickly. We will make a point to stop there next time when we are on our way south. read more
