Came here after a rave at The NorVa while looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't fast food. Arrived around 1:20am and was greeted by Suzy the bartender. She was super nice and also turned out to be the cook, so she was just running the whole show. Went and whipped up some delicious sandwiches which is exactly what we needed. Great ambiance. Pool table. Good signs on the wall. Was completely sober so you can trust, this place rules. Would 100% come back here with some friends. read more

Nice little sandwich shop/bar. Like your typical hole in the wall place, there wasn't many workers but the waitress/bartender was active and constantly on the move. She recommended adding bacon to my pulled chicken sandwich and boy was that the right choice! Delicious! It's house BBQ sauce too so quite different than other places that just use name brand stuff. Racist bartender will quite literally find any reason to not serve a group of 20 something black people LOL. haven't been here in months and yet finds someway to be rude and refuse to serve before we can even order. Have no problem at any other bar in all of hampton but somehow some way always refused service at goodys every single time we walk in and i wonder why. Not to mention the last time we were here she continued to serve our drunk friend after we repeatedly asked her to cut him off, making her liable for anything that could've happened that night but she's only concerned for tips with terrible service. read more

Yes, it's a dive bar, and as others have said, anything could happen. But my late afternoon experience (16:00-18:00 Friday) was good. My turkey Reuben was excellent and generous. Huge pickle spear (5" and a quarter of the pickle). Great potato salad (savory, not sweet). Bartender is friendly and recommended a lager on tap which was very nice. read more

Have been here dozen times and have never had any issues. Tonight one of the employees that was off duty started yelling at us telling the current bartender to kick us out. We were minding our business and then got confronted by another dude while we were not doing anything but talking amongst ourselves. I'm giving a review strictly for the late night atmosphere and beer. Goody's is one of those places I walk to after having 2-3 beers at another local bar in the area. There is a blonde bartender with glasses that is absolutely adorable as well as super friendly. The beer here is cheap, the bathrooms are clean and there is a pool table awkwardly lodged towards the back of the restaurant. You do have to watch yourself when you're going past the folks playing. There are booths, tall tables and the bar where folks can sit and eat or just talk. They have a television set on sports at the bar and the typical bar game console on the counter. I actually like that the draft bud light comes in a plastic picnic like cup and it is filled to the brim. The menu looks interesting and I've heard the food is good but I've yet to try it. Maybe next time. The people I've met in there have all been very friendly. I look forward to coming back when hopping around downtown Hampton. read more

For a Deli spot my sandwich was mediocre at best. It's a raining Saturday and I really wanted a great cold cut sandwich. I stumbled into Goody's because it was close and I was super hungry. As soon as I stepped into the bar it felt a little off. I sat at the bar for quicker service, but that didn't happen either way. There was only on person behind the bar she was blonde and super friendly and bubbly. Yet, she took almost 10 minutes to greet me and take me order, even though i sat down right in front of you. Because it wasn't the best weather out, there were few people in the bar. Then, it still took the bartender 25 mins for her to make my sandwich ( the bartender also made sandwiches). When I finally got my sandwich it looked super yummy! I order the make your own sandwich with chicken, provolone, wheat bread, with all the fixings minus cucumber. Then I bite into my sandwich and was highly disappointed. The was hardly any seasoning on the sandwich or mayo. That was the only condiment they seemed to have (also brown mustard which I asked for later). Honestly, I'm a true sandwich lover and this one did not excited me. It did fill me up and the Mac salad was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it wasn't terrible. I've had better sandwiches from subway, and they were cheaper too. read more

Holy moly what a great spot! I tried Goody's for the first time through a company lunch and was excited considering my coworkers order from them quite a few times a week and the praise is high. We called in for a pickup order so my review is strictly on the quality of their food and not the venue itself. I got a cold Italian sandwich and let me tell you the meat was piled so high it was hard to take a bite! They definitely do not hold back and for the $10 price (choice of a side, potato chips, and pickle spear), it was a steal. The deli meat was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot. Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches and we definitely all wanted to just lay down and nap after the big meal. My only complaint was about the kaiser roll. It was almost hamburger bun like so it got soggy and didn't hold up to the oil and vinegar was was drizzled on the meats. Goody's makes a good sandwich. For me it was not anything extraordinary, but it was solid. You walk in to this dive type bar with eclectic mostly nautical items all over the walls. There were probably 5 locals there who all knew everyone and when you walk in, they seem to quizzically look at you wondering if you stumbled into the wrong place. Service was a bit slow but I'm pretty sure our bartender made our sandwiches too so what can you expect? Sandwiches run between $7-10. Sandwiches come with your choice of coleslaw, potato salad or macaroni salad and a bag of regular potato chips. You can get a hotdog starting at around $3. That's about all that's on the menu, maybe a quesadilla too. They have a small selection of local / craft beers along with the regulars. M-F have craft beers for $3 5-7 PM so it's a decent place to grab a beer. I had the Rueben which was I believe $7.95 with potato salad. It was a good reuben with plenty of meat. They want to claim the best in the area and maybe it is in Hampton, but for the Peninsula that's Mike's place on Warwick in Newport News. It is cheaper than Mike's though and was not that far off. Potato salad was very normal, not at all inspiring. I had the always delicious Legend Brown Ale as part of their $3 happy hour which made the entire experience more enjoyable. My Wife got the Italian Sub served hot and it was better than the reuben. She had the coleslaw which was good but nothing great... I mean it's coleslaw. Her sandwich was around $8 as well. All in all it's a good place for a beer and a sandwich. I wouldn't be mad if my friends wanted to go here, but I wouldn't seek it out either. read more

So I don't eat in downtown Hampton that much anymore, but when I used to, I used to go to Goody's Deli & Pub for one thing--the Rueben sandwich. They seriously know how to make it right and blend the corned beef/sauerkraut/Swiss cheese trifecta just right. It's grilled & awesome. All their sandwiches are $7.15 & their deli wraps (I seriously suggest the Hot Pastrami & Swiss Wrap--very generous portion of Pastrami) are $7.15 as well. Went to the courthouse to grab marriage license papers today, and since the japanese restaurant wasn't open yet, my family and I decided to try this place out. Walking in with my four year old, I was hesitant because at first glance it looks like a bar. Upon coming in, we sat down at the table in a quiet setting and were promptly served. My fiance ordered the chicken and cheese melted sandwich, and I ordered a custom turkey sandwich with a side of chili. The food was great, not to mention, as my husband is a current sailor, it was super nice to just admire all of the sailor decor collected over the years. We enjoyed the case of knots display and the various signs. Will be going back for lunch again when we pick up the paperwork to finalize our marriage! read more

As long as they're open, they're serving food (most places on this block close their kitchens as early as 9 pm). Free popcorn in the back, next to the dilapidated excuse for a pool table. Very small place on the inside. Went here for lunch and order a green gyro and it comes with a side and chips. It was definitely very tasty and filling and they pack it with all of the fixings of a normal Gyro. I would definitely eat here again, but it didn't have any "Wow" factor. read more
