I came to this place for breakfast my first day in Waikiki. We're staying at the Hyatt Regency, it's very convenient being located on the 3rd floor. The view is what sold me. You're over looking the beach. The food was good. You have the option of doing a buffet style of A la Carte style. It's almost the same prices to just get the buffet, plus you get to use the omelette station. The service was really good. The servers are very nice and attentive. Our servers name was Elena. Very sweet women. Also this roof top restaurant is right next to the pool and jacuzzi, and a few steps from the Waikiki strip. Definitely recommend it. Lastly, buffet style is $31/ person. If your a Hyatt Gold Member they will take 15% off your bill as well. read more

The Shor is located inside the Hyatt Regency (3rd floor) and it is a convenient place to eat if you're staying there. The place offers a great view of waikiki beach with seating areas that at both indoors and outdoors. I've only tried the breakfast here. I tried the loco moco, acai bowl, continental breakfast, and eggs Benedict. Everything was decently good. All the food items are what you would expect. The only noteworthy (or different) item is the loco moco. It has spam fried rice instead of just plain white rice. This makes the dish stand out from the other loco mocos I've tried. It's very good especially if you like spam! The service is good too. Everyone here is friendly and makes an effort to make your dining experience enjoyable. In summary, this is a no fuss place to come eat if you're looking for dependably decent food and a great view! read more

My fiancé and I had the best experience here! We were able to make a last minute reservation online and we were sat as soon as the restaurant opened. Went here for the first time the other night. The service was outstanding. Our water glasses were never empty because the waiter catered to our needs on a constant basis. The chef came over and talked to us and gave us great suggestions about what kind of sauce pairs well with our meals. The ambiance was great, very classy, and not snobby. The food was very delectable and full of flavor. I had the seared fish of the day, which was marlin, and it came with a macadamia pesto sauce drizzled around it. The way the fish was cooked kept it moist. It was light and delicious. I also ordered a side of the kimchee fried rice. I had never had fried rice cooked that way, but it had a variety of ingredients that blended so well together. I was surprised at how big the portion was for just having it as a side dish. I could not finish it, so I took it home and had it later as a midnight snack. It was still good even out of the fridge. The dessert was great. My family and I had the cheese cake and the chocolate hopia cake. I liked the chocolate hopia personally, but both were very sweet and rich. My cousin and family chose Shor while they were visiting Honolulu for dinner. We were greeted well and staff very friendly and it was a very nice atmosphere. First of all they have a waiter or host person that greets you at the front desk skinny guy with glasses named Bryan who is a very rude and unprofessional person it's too bad because the rest of the staff are very nice .The breakfast buffet here for nearly $40 is absolutely not worth it selection is very small and limited most of the items are old or not tasty the fruit was not ripe . Everyday they give you some sort of bland creation of eggs Benedict , besides that disgusting scrambled eggs that will get you sick burping bad egg taste all day bad case of diarrhea later on .The omelette bar always has a incompetent person that never remembers your order right unless you stand over them and repeat your order to them few times . The pigeon lady that walks around with a long stick wacking around the pigeons is humorous my little kid thought she was a blind waitress . I can't make this stuff up folks . There are better breakfast options around there . Ok Shor, you're up next in my s*** list of my Waikiki staycation. I'm an angry girl this Monday because tons of money was spent on my staycation and really the highlight was... well... NOT Shor. We got a coupon for a 2-for-1 breakfast buffet at Shor from the front desk when we checked in, but our friend who checked in on the same day didn't. We went back to the reception desk on Sunday morning to see if we could get another one so the four of us could go and have a nice filling breakfast before we checked out. The lady tells us that they ran out, but that we can just go to the buffet and get one there. We get there and the host tells us that there will be no problem getting another 2-for-1. Yay! We decide to sit and eat since we were saving a total of $60. What a deal! WRONG. The manager comes back to our table after we've already started eating and tells us that the coupon we have is expired and that neither of our rooms comes with the 2-for-1 deal. WTF. He called the front desk and they too cannot find where we were supposed to get the 2-for-1 coupon. It's a special package that we supposedly didn't pay for. He cannot honor it. He tells us this in the beginning of our meal, thus RUINING whatever appetite we had. In short, I found my 2-for-1 email on my phone, to which they honored after much shenanigans, and they gave us 10% off of the other two meals. STILL the tab comes out to $85+. This would not have been a big deal, BUT: -no prime rib -no crab -very limited selection $30 is regular price for this rip-off. There's no way you get your money's worth, just skip it and have a breakfast at Starbucks. This place is just as worthless as the hotel itself. We spent over $2000 at this hotel alone in TWO DAYS. You'd think they could make a customer happy and just give us the extra meal at no cost. There's no way I ate even $10 worth of food. Shor, you need to take a lesson in customer service. IS IT WORTH IT TO LOSE $2000 IN BUSINESS FOR A $30 MEAL? Thanks, I think I'll cancel our Hyatt San Francisco stay. Way to go, Shor, way to go. read more

Bacon was too dry , fruits not sweet, French toast omg what a disaster probably the worst French toast I ever tasted: bread pudding was ok, miso was flavorless. My parents called me randomly this past Saturday and asked if we wanted to go to dinner with them... I thought the world was ending! The signs were everywhere - a crazy lady was nice to me, work was calm, and then my parents asked us to dinner in Waikiki no less! My mom called to make reservations and it wasn't really necessary but I am sure if it was later on, then probably it would be a good idea. We arrived on time for our reservation but it still took them awhile to set up (even though there were a slew of empty tables). However, they actually gave a nice table that overlooked the water. I should note that if you want to sit by the water, make sure the forecast doesn't include rain. I got sprinkled on throughout dinner, nothing too heavy but still. While we were perusing the dinner menu, the host or whoever he was, came up to us and said "oh, you need to order the lobster. Lobster oishii!" I don't know if he thought we were tourists or what (even with my haole husband in tow) but he kept telling us to order the lobster. My dad asked where the lobster was from and the guy was like "oh you know between Florida and South America and Puerto Rico." WHAT? I don't think he knew and his BS-ing was TERRIBLE. My dad was like oh so it's not fresh and the guy was like uhhh. If you don't know where the lobster is from, please don't try to pressure your customers to order it. Our actual waiter was nice and he was more knowledgeable. He told us to order the set menus, which were actually a decent price. However, don't expect anything spectacular from the salads. The ceasar lacked taste and my mom's pear/mango salad was not worth it either. So maybe only the steak and dessert were worth it in the set. I had set #1 and my mom had set #2. My mom's filet was so tiny! My husband and father both had the ribeye. They both said it was good but no Ruth Chris good. My dad also got the poke and he said it was just ok. The desserts were nothing to write home about. Our waiter gave us an extra dessert of apple pie/cobbler but it was just okay and some parts were salty because of too much cinnamon. Overall, I wouldn't come here again unless it really is the end of the world and my parents want to invite us. It was priced the same as anywhere in Waikiki for a "decent" meal but I would rather go somewhere else because the food wasn't spectacular. Imagine my anxiety when I needed to make restaurant reservations for my two daughters' joint birthday dinner -- checking on Open Table for its listing of restaurants, Googling other restaurants, and cold calling even more, just a few short days before December 24, 2011, Christmas eve. Procrastination . . . . yet, in this case, my last minute efforts paid off. The food at Shor American Seafood Grill at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Waikiki was excellent. One birthday daughter (E.) ordered the filet mignon; at 7 oz., it was thick and grilled to smoky perfection. The other birthday daughter (N.) ordered the Grill Em + Fire Em locally caught monchong, with pineapple lemon salt on the side; the fish was so good that the seasoning almost seemed better suited as only a garnish. One other guest (Grandma J.) ordered the roasted monchong, with tinkerbell peppers, lemon chive potato puree, and asparagus salad; I can only assume it was divine since I heard periodic oohs and aahs from grandma's end of the table. The other two of us (C. and I) ordered the special, an opah fillet topped with two small prawns that were grilled and so sweet that they must have been amaebi, I swear; this dish was, in a word, "great." The two desserts we all shared were unique and a fine way to end our meal. We ordered the chilled mango soup with seasonal berries. The mango puree was creamy but inexplicably light, with a hint of ginger that beautifully balanced the mango's sweetness. We also tried the house-made ice cream sampler -- a trio of bacon buttered popcorn, ginger lychee, and coconut sorbetto. The consensus was that the bacon buttered popcorn ice cream was the most interesting of the three, surprisingly good despite the image the name may conjure, and that the coconut sorbetto was the best. There were only three negatives: First, the five of us were seated at a table designed for only four, so daughter N. had to position herself awkwardly at the corner between daughter E. and Grandma J. Second, the workers just could not figure out how to keep a nearby door leading to the lanai (which was closed off for the evening because of weather) from opening and shutting in synchronicity with the gusts of wind. Third, while I really cannot explain or articulate the reasons for my feelings, the employees just seemed to be trained and better suited for a hotel coffee shop (which was the previous venue in the same spot), rather than for a higher-end restaurant serving entrees in the $30-$60 range. I enjoyed my evening at SHOR and I gave it 3 out of 5 for various reasons. The decor follows along the lines of Shokudo. Contemporary, informal, light, airy and comfortable. The menu's description was intriguing, but the execution was hit and miss. The Tarragon Hollandaise sauce (more like a Bearnaise) was pretty insipid and didn't add any dimension to my salmon so I ended up just eating it with lemon, salt and pepper. The baby Kona abalone with garlic herb kukui nut butter was pure perfection and is a must try. The Truffle Mac N Cheese was good and bad. The cheese sauce was very rich. So rich, in fact, that it needed something like bleu cheese or sharp white cheddar crumbled on top to balance it out. Unfortunately, the mac was SERIOUSLY overcooked and I suspect it made the cheese sauce runny. But the au gratin topping was the best I've ever eaten. Fluffy as new fallen snow (I'm thinking panko and Parmesan?) and extremely tasty. I'd like the chef to make me a huge bed-sized pan of this stuff so I can lie down in it for a nap after eating my fill. I'm getting hungry just thinking of it. The Coconut Sorbetto was garnished with a thin slice of fresh coconut. It was very creamy and light with a nice mouth feel. The texture was like a velvety soft serve ice cream. I'll try the ginger lichee next time. At first I thought SHOR was pricey for the level of food served, BUT one has to remember the restaurant is on some of the most precious real estate in the world with an enviable view of the ocean, beach, sunset , fireworks, etc. And our extremely attentive waiter (Nathan) is a shining example of what visitor industry service should be like whether it is in a restaurant, front desk or limousine. read more

The Hyatt has done some fixin' up of the former Terrace Grill. They have added wood touches, nifty tables and chairs to give the space a pleasant modern and warm tone. SHOR is a chain and the menu is a little gimmicky. Categories called "Grill 'Em", "Chill Em", etc. Basically a seafood spot. You order your protein then add your choice of seasonings and sauces. Everything is ala carte. My fillet was a tad overcooked, but still flavorful and tender. My dining companion's lobster tails were fine. The Caesar, meh. We started with 6 Kuromoto oysters at $4 ea. Owie. Overall, lovely atmosphere, decent food, sometimes pricey. Service was attentive, but I got the feeling the staff were former Terrace Grill staff, not necessarily fine-dining staff, so a little clumsy at times (tho super friendly). The question... Would you go back? Yes, if in Waikiki to sit at the renovated bar or to hang with friends and have a few small plates on the terrace, enjoying the trade winds, sunsets, etc. read more

I REEEEALLY want to give this place 2 stars because our server was so amazing, and the ambiance was incredible, but I don't want to mislead anyone to coming here for the terrible food. My husband and I were staying at the same hotel this restaurant is located in (Hyatt Regency). We thought we would just hop in for a romantic dinner, but when we arrived, they said there was a 45 minute wait. Fine, this is a pretty fancy restaurant, a wait is understandable. Except when we came back and we were finally seated, half the tables were empty. Not exaggerating. I counted. HALF the tables were empty on purpose. I admit that it created a very exclusive and private atmosphere, but I would recommend you MAKE RESERVATIONS. We had the crab cake appetizer, which was very good, but I wish it had been hotter. The temperature was lukewarm bordering on cold. We also both ordered the 8oz filet mignon with loaded baked potatoes. My husband and I are from Texas, so I admit we eat steaks on the regular. So perhaps were are a bit spoiled/biased, but these were NOT filet mignon quality steaks! There was a bunch of gristle, and the steak was flat out hard to cut. The steaks were were also lukewarm, and I asked for medium, and they were cooked almost well done. The waiter heavily emphasized several times that the meat was from "grass-fed, organic, humanely grown, etc etc." cows. A lot of good that did! My husband said he kept expecting the guy from the Walmart commercial to step out and say "these were Walmart steaks!". And the baked potatoes tasted like Wendy's baked potatoes. After tax and tip the meal cost us more than all the meals we ate in the past 2 days combined! What a waste of money. Please, save your appetite and your wallets. read more

Fact about SHOR---- BEST EGGS BENEDICT IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. Theory---- If I could start every Sunday eating SHOR's Eggs Benny, for the entire following work week I would be in such a happy mental state that I may not actually mind taking complaint calls at work--- Caller: When is this construction work gonna stop?! I want my view back!!!! Me: (singing in head 'lalalala....man SHOR's hollandaise was amazing....i wonder how they made that....') Caller: ---you know you people have no idea how to--- Me: ('mmmm and that ham!') --- you are absolutely right, sir.... 0:) Anyhow, leaving lala land, I am here to say that SHOR has all of the above brilliance, and a GREAT morning staff. It's refreshing to have Waikiki service that shares the aloha spirit with LOCALS too. Our waiter, Chris, made us feel right at home and included Kamaaina discount with our meal- an act which some restaurants will not include unless you ask. So this generous and thoughtful gesture was much appreciated, in addition to all other considerations Chris had provided us. Moreover, SHOR has a beautiful location out there on a balcony with the sun shining above and fresh ocean breeze. I would happily come here for breakfast for all of the above. read more

This is the restaurant at our hotel - the Hyatt Regency. Ambiance is great - by the beach, surrounded by the two hotel towers in open space (no roof). The staff is almost all Japanese and the service is impeccable. My wife ordered the Poke bowl which she liked. I ordered the wings and steak which I hated. Hawaii isn't known for their meats and it's probably because everything is imported. I recommend this restaurant - but don't get the steak, get Japanese food and seafood, you won't be disappointed. read more

But there were just a lot of amateur errors. Steak in a hot dish that makes cutting difficult. Sundae in a deep bowl that you can't scoop out of. Restaurants are always coming and going in Waikiki and we always get excited to try the new hotspots. This place seemed perfect - steak and seafood (yes, I know, how many steak and seafood places can there be on one street), but the fun part, you pick your seasoning and your sauce! Shor is located on the 3rd floor of the Hyatt, directly across from the beach. We were greeted by the hostess, who took us to a table on the lanai. The restaurant is open-air with a few tables inside. There was a parade outside, so we asked to be moved a little farther back. There were quite a few tables open, so the hostess told us to pick a table! We chose one just inside. We checked out the menu and a few minutes later a server ran by and said she'd be right with us. She seemed to have tables all over the lanai. When she returned a few minutes later she said "What can I get for you?" Being in the service industry as long as I have, I understand not getting any pleasantries at McDonald's, or any fast food joint... but this place is $40+ a person. After our cocktails came, we decided that we would start with appetizers and see how things went... We ordered the 1/2 lb of steamed crab legs ($22) and 6 oysters on the half shell ($4 a pop). After we ordered the apps, the server brought us some bread and butter. It was a round loaf, and it was delicious! The apps were good, but we decided to call it a night. The server started to warm up a bit, but the opening really put a sour taste in our mouths. I know we are haole in Waikiki but I was wearing two leis (not your average plumeria leis) and she didn't ask if we were celebrating anything (which we were). I understand being busy... I understand having a crazy section... but the restaurant wasn't busy. We will try again in the future... Hopefully once they have time to iron out the details of being a new restaurant. read more
