Synopsis: Having 14 people with yelp shirts to come to your establishment is apparently intimidating. I witnessed the waiters/waitresses bustling around, confused, and anxious. Furthermore, one of the managers from what I presume, front of the house, was assisting us. LOL! I couldn't stop laughing in my head, but I just kept observing. I came here with Yelp Elites and Plus 1+'s After the AIDS Walk. While walking to Shor, I was told by Ka'imi they do not accept reservations! What!? That is ridiculous! Now why not? Anyway, when we were on our way, he said he called them to let them know we were coming. Upon arrival, we were told to wait because a party of 40 just sat. I am irate! Whatever. However, the place is very beautiful. Everything screamed upper-class status to the point where it makes the food cheaper. What was quite disappointing was the fact that I found eggshells in my food. :/ HACCP please! After getting my food for free, I do say they champion on food presentation!
Environment: A labyrinth of a mall in the Waikiki Regeancy Hyatt, we were left to ask, "Where is this place." Had to look at maps and had to do a lot of crawling around! Evidently there are escalators that lead to the second floor, but not the third floor? When you walk into the place, things were nicely placed. You see the beautiful buffet or the outside eatery with umbrellas. Then the smell of the food encouraged my olfactory to party! While having such a wait, the smell made me perturb with absolute hunger! Before finally being sat, the waiter said they didn't have enough menus. Are you serious!? At the table the booth part where I sat was very comfortable and well decorated. It was a nice dark mint seating with a orangey backing - nice on the eyes. With nicely made knife, spoon, and fork was a beautiful linen napkin.
Employees: Even though we had to wait, the employees were polite. While sitting down, however, it seemed like they were all unsure as to how to approach our huge group. 3-5 people were among conversation behind us. What was more comical was the fact that they had their front manager come and assist us, personally. Then I have to put the cherry on top:
Me: For the natto, does it come from Chicago? Or Japan?
Waiter: Um...I am not sure.
Me: Oh, I will take the scrambled eggs then.
I was disappointed he didn't bother to offer checking in the back. When my eggs came, two pieces of shells were found. I was like..ugh...whatever, I am hungry....
Seleena: No Jon! Take it back! This is the Hyatt and we're paying high-price point....
Me: But..it is okay, I can just eat around it... (I really wanted to, I AM ON MY DEATH BED AT THIS POINT)
Seleena: No...
Waiter comes by...
Seleena: Excuse me sir, in his egg, there are some shells. Can you please take it back.
Waiter: I am sorry about that, I will take that for you.
Later, I had 2 waiters be apologetic. Furthermore, I got the food for free. I wish the manager came and did it. That would have been proper protocol.
Cost: Seeing that I got it for free, fantastic! However, compared to the hoops you have to go through to come here, I would not go out of my way to come here for breakfast at this cost. I would have spent $18, not including tip.
Parking: Well it's Waikiki...the number one reason why I wouldn't come here... inconvenience. Although by the zoo there is parking, if you do not mind walking.
Food: Regardless of the wait, the food was okay. I had "Signature Specialties: Bento Style Breakfast."
Salmon: Partially dry on the outside, but it was bursting with fatty fishy flavor. I still thought it was delicious. 4/5
2-inch cubed tofu w/bonito: A bit on the sour side, but I should have put shoyu on it. It would have made it perfect. I suggest adding green onions to increase the texture and enhance the flavor. 3/5
Scrambled Egg: Wasn't cooked all the way, and I just hope that it reached a temperature over 160 to prevent food borne illnesses to people who are immune compromised. Regardless, not much flavor except "egg." 3/5
Tsukemono (Cucumber): Mmm.. something tasted off. I had better brands, but it was still okay. 3/5
Salad: I want to know what the dressing was. It was delicious, although some of the greens were wilted. I am used to it, but still. :/ 2/5
Miso Soup: It tasted home-made! I couldn't believe it. With small little pieces of tofu, and fresh green onion. This was by far the most pleasurable part of the meal. 5/5
Rice: A little mushy and poorly put together. If the establishment's main customers are Japanese, they would not be pleased with this, especially if there is dry rice on the outside of the containment. 2/5 read more
