All of the years I'd visited Texas (lots of different towns and cities) before relocating to Austin where I've been living for two years, it was finally time to try Shipley out. Not disappointed here at all. The location is clean and the service friendly. I am a big fan of buttermilk pie so I opted for the buttermilk cake donut which I can't recommend enough. The cake is thick without being dense. The buttermilk taste is not overpowering but very much there. My boyfriend got a sausage & jalapeño kolache (which I had two bites of) and it was good. The ratio of bread to cheese, jalapeño, and sausage were spot on. Power packed flavor. He had a cream filled donut and of course I took a bite. That cream was light, creamy, and tasty. Finally, he had a glazed blueberry cake donut. Yep, I had a bite of that as well. It was really good. Tasted like fresh blueberries just picked. This may be a franchise thing, but they got rid of their best kolache, the Big Earl Campbell with Jalapeño and cheese. Also, I had a filled bar several months back and it almost had no filling. Rat poop. I went through their drive through and got a dozen of their sugar donuts. I order from this specific location frequently because of convenience and I haven't had any issues in the past. Got home and my brother went to grab a donut and he discovered rat poop on the donut. We immediately called the Shipley's and explained what we found and were told "that's funny because we don't have rats, must be a chocolate sprinkle.". We told them that if we showed up with it and they saw no issues trusting that it was a sprinkle, we'd leave and not ask for a refund. The employee responded "okay, pull up" with a chuckle and snarky tone. My brother returned the donuts and was met with incredibly rude staff members. I should have saved the drive and the calories. We ordered two large kolaches: one regular sausage and cheese and one sausage, jalapeño and cheese; two donuts and one order of donut holes. First, the order was wrong. Second, the donuts were cold and dry. Third, the jalapeño kolache had a couple of unwelcome surprises. I recently rediscovered Shipley's after having gone to another donut shop and trying to order an item from memory that turned out to be from the Shipley's menu, that being their delicious French vanilla cappuccino. Seriously, it is so creamy and steaming hot. I'm happy to be reunited with not only it, but Shipley's kolaches as well. They have sweet, soft breading that's got a spring to it. My go-to are the ham&cheese and the sausage cheese & jalapeno, but I also gave the pizza jalapeno a shot and would highly recommend the experience. Their boba teas are a treat! The ice storm devastated central and south Texas for 5 days in February in 2021. Forced to come in into work on Tuesday, I witnessed the effect of the storm on most of the businesses. However, a single establishment was open during the storm and it was Shipleys. On Monday, I stayed at home but was summoned to work on Tuesday and gladly stopped at Shipleys to bring some welcome relief to the crew at work. The shop had its standard offerings of donuts, and drinks and I purchased several dozen. On Wednesday, the shop decreased the variety of donuts but increased the output of regular donuts and kolaches. They also added extra staff members and extended there business hours. This special service continued until the ice thawed. Shipleys' donuts are always great and they provide exceptional service, but they adapted to the ice storm by increasing there output, extended there business hours and continued to provide great food and service. I will never forget the oasis that you provided during the emergent, icy conditions. I will continue to patronize your shops because the twists are perfect and the seasonal pumpkin cake donuts are exceptional. Once again, the crew at the Parmer/Metric location in Austin, Texas exemplifies the brand and they fed hungry and cold texans during the ice storm. read more

Many flavors of donuts. The apple fritter is a foot long, crispy on the outside cakey in the inside and apple bits throughout. New Shipley's in Austin. I was curious what the donuts were like since I came from DD donuts country. These were delicious, very big and fully filled donuts. Some popular flavors were not available. Review update........used the drive-through and ordered two kolaches and a donut. After driving away, noticed I only received one kolache. Went back the following day, placed the same order, and was charged the same price as the day before - telling me that I was shorted one kolache the day before. When I mentioned this to the cashier, she said she was sorry. No attempt whatsoever to offer reimbursement for the missing item the day before or to deduct the charge from the second order. He loooves Shipleys, but living in the Allandale neighborhood the closest one is about 10 miles away, not convenient for Sunday morning breakfast. A nice little shop in Austin. A place where mom and daughter enjoy donuts before the school day. Yep, I like. Apparently the Kolaches and donuts are incredible. They had an assortment of filled which would make any donut man smile. They must have had 12 different flavors filled in tasty donuts: raspberry, lemon, cream cheese, strawberry... I went with the favorite of the nice woman behind the counter, cream cheese and my favorite, the apple fritter. The fritter is great, not the the top mark but really good. The ends were the part that made it so good. The middle was a bit lacking though. It was a little dry and not flavorful enough for my taste buds. I'm giving this place the 4 star mark because of the great glazed donut and filled. The jelly filled are the right choice, I'd pass on the 3 star fritter for the 4 star filled donuts. Stopped by to get a dozen assorted donuts to bring to the office and this is about as average as it gets in the donut world. This is really your grocery store quality donut and nothing more. There were no unique or interesting offerings. The donuts in general are a bit chewier and denser than what you'd get at Krispy Kreme, for comparison, and the flavored or iced ones didn't wow me. The cherry and strawberry glazed donuts were laden with so much food coloring that they have that cheap, bitter, chemically, artificial taste to them. If you want a simple glazed donut, and it's convenient, great. If you want great donuts or something better than you can get at HEB, for the love of God, go anywhere else. I've never been particularly impressed by Shipley's donuts when I visited their locations in other cities. I am giving them one star for pulling a Wally-Mart and moving in catty-corner to a local, family owned business (Donut Crown, next door to McD's) that is yummy delicious and gives more variety than Shipley's anyways. So now they have to struggle even harder to make their family business hum because some out-of-towner pendejos decided to muscle them out. Although I love the smell of freshly fried donuts, I only eat them once in a blue moon because they are quite the calorie bomb and sugar high. A Shipley's opened up within walking distance of my house, so I decided to check it out since they had mailed me coupons, and my friends in Houston rave about them. I have to say that I was greatly underwhelmed. Glazed donut/donut hole - Their glazed donut was alright, but I liked their donut holes better (could be biased since I am a huge fan of donut holes). Sausage kolache - I've tasted MUCH better. I believe what makes a kolache good is the bread part of it, and theirs was just not good. It just didn't taste all that fresh - I prefer it when it tastes more like a Hawaiian roll. Coffee - their menu said flavored coffee, but the lady said that they don't even sell flavored coffee. Why have it on the menu then? Unlike other donut shops around town, they only offer drip coffee. I wonder if they just buy something like Folgers and call it their coffee. I'm not picky when it comes to coffee, so I'll just get something cheap like Bengal Traders coffee at Exxon, and I have to say that Shipley's coffee tastes worse than that! That's pretty sad when your coffee tastes worse than coffee you can find at a gas station. It's probably a good thing that I'm not a big fan of their goods especially since they are so close to my house. I am going to start this with how excited my husband was to get one of these in our neighborhood! He grew up in Temple and this was the donut place they went to there. So, the inner child in him was ready for a cherry iced donut! We got to go there together when the snow came and everyone was off! So we went and he got his donut! The donuts there are great. They are sweet and I love my sprinkles. I love how fresh they taste and the service is great. So why the A-OK only? The kolaches.... I love kolaches! That is the reason why I go to a donut shop. I asked if they had any bullseye donuts left because they are delicious. The manager (she was bossing people around so I assumed she was) said she could make one real quick.
