Great sushi spot tucked in the large shopping center on Camden and Union. There's lots of parking and a decent amount of seating for a small restaurant. The staff were all very nice and attentive. I dined in on a Friday night and the ambiance was busy and lively. I noticed there was a lot of regulars dining in, always a good sign :-). For a sushi restaurant, I was impressed with their vegetarian options! They have vegetarian udon and 5 vegetarian rolls. Along with the traditional apps. -Edamame: salty and savory -Miso soup: delicious and actually hot! Perfect for a cold night -Seaweed salad: a good portion and nicely seasoned -Vege roll: the only difference between this roll and the caterpillar roll is the mango and portion size. The vege roll was perfect for me portion wise. The pickled veggies were delicious! Definitely recommend Shima Sushi!

First time trying this place. Seen it when I pass by, always wanted to try and finally I did. I ordered their tempura shrimp lunch special for $15 and it was good. 5 pcs of shrimp, the batter is just a bit too thick, it came with miso soup and white rice. Soup was not too salty, so it's good. Food came out fast! Maybe it's because there were only two tables that were occupied. Love the simple and clean ambiance. They also have Coke Zero which is a plus for me.

I've been coming to Shima a few times a month for lunch over the course of 3 years! Can't believe I haven't reviewed Shima yet, oops. They open at 11:30am for lunch and have a nice menu of something for everyone. My mom doesn't like raw fish but is totally fine for the chicken katsu. My friend I come here with only eats sashimi and it's super good she says! I like baked rolls and get the lion king 10/10! It's a California roll with baked salmon on top. I came here today with a friend and got the lion king roll, a salad and she got the mackerel. I had a bite to taste it and it's awesome!

I'm always coming to eat in this shopping center but never really noticed Ishi Shima Sushi until recently. It's pretty dark from the outside so I always assumed it was closed, but it's not! Open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Called in and ordered for pickup. Sushi was ready pretty quick - about 10 minutes. I ordered the flying dragon roll, edamame, and a hamachi hand roll. It was pretty averagely priced for all of that, just over $30. Sushi was fresh, I liked both the hand roll and the dragon roll, would order both of them again, as well as try others. Edamame was a little bland without any seasoning, but still nice and fresh. Excited to come back and dine in next time!

Found this place by accident. I was looking for the Armadillo Willy's that was in this strip mall. Its gone! Saw this place and decided I was in the mood for a bento box ( I do not eat sushi!). The food was flavorful & I appreciated they have regular & lower sodium soy sauce on the tables. I got the teriyaki chicken with mixed tempura vegetables. I ate most of my lunch (Bento Box A comes with 2 entrees). Good amount of food for the price of $17.99. Also got a large Sapporo beer to wash it down.

When I'm back in the South Bay and craving sushi, I've really been enjoying going to Shima Sushi. The sushi is fresh and flavorful, with a wide variety of options to choose from. The service is friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. I enjoyed the chicken karage-- so crispy and delicious. I have also ordered the Camden and Jackpot roll which were both delicious. Tempura is crispy and perfect. If you're looking for a great sushi spot in San Jose, I highly recommend giving Shima Sushi a try!

Finally got to try Shima Sushi. Food was delicious and fresh, beers ice cold. Owner/chef was super friendly, service was great and restroom super clean. Would definitely come back and will recommend to friend.

BEST SUSHI IVE EVER HAD! I don't know how this place has been here and I didn't know about it! The decorations are perfect. All of the staff are extremely friendly. Other sushi places I have to put a lot of spicy mayo or soy sauce for taste, but here the rolls are good just the way that they are!

But after weighing the price of the all-you-can-eat vs ordering exactly what we were craving a la carte, we decided to just order off the menu, which was the smart move since it was much less expensive and we ended up full. The place is casual and a little not-fancy decor or ambiance wise. You wouldn't bring anyone here you wanted to impress. . .but the food is what's important, right? The sushi was good! The rolls were large, the options were creative, and everything was tasty and met expectations. I wouldn't say it's elevated sushi, where there are layers to the flavors and you go "wow". But you get your sushi and see the portions are a good size and are happy that you get to dig in and eat satisfying sushi. I'd come back here again, especially for casual sushi where you want good value. Service was good as well - again, nothing fancy or overly attentive, but perfectly adequate for the level of restaurant. Also, it came pretty quickly, which was a plus as well (it wasn't that crowded when we went).

We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. I wouldn't mind coming back again to try other items on their menu when I'm in the area.

Everything was courteous and polite and welcoming. The food was not bad either. The Volcano Roll was a new item for us and it was kid-approved instantly. I also got the Warriors Roll and the waitress suggested the Dragon Roll after I decided on eel and not shrimp. The prices are reasonable as well. I took out some points because of the strong soy sauce smell when entering the restaurant. The decoration is not fancy but slightly run down. They have a wide variety of offerings, which made it hard to decide what to order. We decided on the edemame, chicken teriyaki & tempura bento subbed with sashimi, and 2 of their special nigiris. Everything was really good. I loved the chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too sweet, and the chicken was seasoned. It's been a while since I've had good teriyaki chicken! The sashimi came with 2 pieces of tuna and 2 pieces of salmon, which were fine, decent size and tasted fresh. The shrimp tempura had a unique breading, not the typical panko, and it was so crunchy. The shrimp seemed more like a prawn. It was much larger and had great freshness and sweetness. Really good! The special nigiris we ordered were the aburi sake toro & engawa yuzu. In general, I thought the fish pieces were pretty skinny. Good rice to fish ratio tho. The salmon toro would probably be better with less sauce. It overpowered the fish, and I couldn't enjoy the fattiness of the salmon. The engawa was supposed to be torched, but it wasn't. It was still good tho. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'll definitely be back to try more items.

The egg, though, was hard boiled and didn't have a soft center, which I like. That seemed like a bit of a shortcut to be honest. Anywho, we ordered a variety of items to try: new stamina don, clam chowder croquette, kani chirashi bento, and a salmon kama bento. The sliced beef was cooked to rare, and the braised pork was very tender. The rice also came with the poached egg, kewpie mayo and a lemon, mixing it all together with the rice made it have a nice creamy flavor. Clam chowder croquette was something I have never heard of before, so I definitely wanted to try it. This was delicious, would definitely get it again. A fried crispy croquette with clam chowder in it but also some mashed potatoes and tonkotsu sauce on top. Kani chirashi bento had snow crab, fish roe over rice, rolled egg omelette, sashimi, fried boneless chicken, and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The sashimi came with 4 pieces, 2 tuna and 2 salmon. the tuna was a little fishy but the soy sauce helped. The salmon was actually pretty good - good fattiness. The fried chicken was fine, a few pieces were dry. Overall this bento was good. Salmon Kama bento is salmon collar over rice, fried boneless chicken, takoyaki and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The salmon collar needed some salt in my opinion.
