Party Tray A
Maria L.

Nagoya's sushi trays have been my go-tos whenever I have friends over and I don't want to cook all the dishes. We tried their sushi rolls for lunch at the restaurant once first and were happy with their quality. Service was prompt as well. For sushi trays, you have to order through their website. I tried to order over phone but they referred me to the website instead. Their website wasn't the best and would only accept same day orders. You can call to change the date & time for pickup after placing an order, though. 10% off will be applied automatically. I like that they have quite a number of sushi tray options, and we have ordered different trays multiple times. Quality had been consistent, and they're always ready for pickup at the specified time.

The taste and ingredients of the 3 rolls we had were good. Because all the rolls we ordered had unagi sauce, there was a sameness in taste, but the that was more a function of what we ordered. I would say the one area where I could see improvement is the size of the rolls. Usually these deluxe rolls that sell for $16-18 are larger in circumference and thicker sliced. These were more the size of a single or two ingredient roll, so it was actually fairly pricey for the amount of food involved. Service was very good, food came fast, decor was pretty standard as far as Japanese restaurants go.

This place is super small... total of 24 seats and parking can be difficult, but there is a large parking lot next to the location. Came in for dinner and was seated right away, this place is tiny. Think about a dive location, but food is decent. Started with hot tea because of their banner but didn't see it was just a tea bag, nothing special. Ordered mixed tempura to start, but not worth $12 as you don't get that much, but the battering was good. Also got the Musketeer, crazy, spicy hamachi, and California roll. All in all they were good, but the crazy roll and musketeer had too much sauce so couldn't taste all the flavors. California roll was good and made just got I would expect. I know that folks rave about this place and there were a ton of to go orders, but I also don't think there are a ton of options for sushi around this place. It's good, but nothing to write home about. This location used to be a sushi location, but never ate here or remember what it was called.

Chirashi Bowl

I wanted to love Nagoya Sushi and while I appreciate their hole-in-the-wall, local vibe, sadly the food left me wanting so much more. It was textbook mediocrity, with each dish being definitionally correct but lacking any of the charm or extra quality that would set it apart from anything else. The Chirashi Bowl was lackluster, complete with a suspiciously homogenous tamagoyaki and cuts of sashimi that failed to impress. The Agedashi Tofu appetizer came lacking many of the typical toppings such as grated daikon and bonito flakes, and was strangely separated from the dashi it is traditionally served in, which was instead presented as some kind of dipping sauce off to the side of the little pyramid of tofu. The low point of the meal had to be the beef teriyaki, which was thoroughly disappointing. Rather than being a thin steak, seared and coated with sauce as is typical for the dish, the meat was more akin to the shaved beef you might find as part of a broccoli beef dish in a Chinese restaurant. It felt cheap and low-quality, to say nothing of the visual presentation which left it looking like a pile of half-chewed meat on the corner of the plate. Avoid this if possible, especially given that it comes with an upcharge just to order it. As we left the restaurant the word that came most easily to mind was "fine". Everything (apart from that abomination of a beef teriyaki) was fine but nothing more. In a town and a region with easy access to high-quality seafood and sushi, "fine" just doesn't make the cut.

Delicious, homey and very relaxing afternoon! Bf ended up ordering two crazy rolls! Love how it was simple but the fish was fresh and tasty Loved this tucked away spot

Honestly I've only been here once and I LOVED my experience. There's so many sushi spots in San Jose and this place blew my mind. Everything here was tasty, high quality, and reasonably priced. ROLLS: - OMG roll (4.5/5), Crazy roll (5/5), Musketeers roll (5/5), and Spicy Hamachi (4/5) - These were the popular rolls and my favorite has to be the Crazy Roll. It was delicious and I LOVED the seared salmon that was on top. The OMG and Crazy roll both had shrimp tempura, which was also good and flavorful - The rolls were on the bigger side and loaded. Though I dipped my sushi in soy sauce, it wasn't needed. For appetizers we got the Wakame salad (5/5) and the Agedashi Tofu (4/5). The salad was refreshing and slightly sweet. The Agedashi Tofu was fried well. Might be my new favorite sushi spot and will for sure come back. They also offer real wasabi, which I appreciate. The restaurant itself is tiny, so I don't recommend coming here with a large party. PRO TIP: they offer online ordering and this is how I found out which rolls were popular. This helped me figure out my order and I loved everything I got.

little hole in the wall sushi place, service is great and fish is always fresh we came here on a sunday night at 6pm and it wasn't too busy. while we were sitting, more people started to come in at 7pm. once they got a little busy, we were told that the orders would take a little longer since they only had one sushi chef preparing everything which is understandable since it's a small store. we were happy to wait :) 9 piece sashimi: 10/10 big slices and fish was fresh. i don't like albacore so he was able to give me hamachi instead of albacore. Crazy Roll and Musketeer Roll: 10/10 decent size rolls and yummy fish restaurant is clean and their sashimi is always fresh! staff is always helpful and friendly, the prices are reasonable, highly recommend.

Came here again for dinner, ordered 2 uni's, hamachi lovers, the Chirashi bowl and added hamachi collar later with beer. I enjoy the small mom and pop feel here and the prices are pretty good for quantity and quality. I still think the hamachi lovers has a bit too much sauce added. The uni was pretty good, the hamachi okay as well. We will prob be back!

Tldr; small parking lot, great staff/owner, awesome sushi, limited seating inside. A small business with new-ish owners, Nagoya Sushi is a cozy spot located on the corner of Bascom and Union Ave. I'd recommend going during non-peak hours for the best experience as their parking lot is part of a bigger plaza, but cordoned off, meaning spots can fill up. You can always park in the main plaza and walk over too! But, seating inside is good for maybe 12 customers at a time, though they aren't usually that busy. Scallop Forever (Baked Roll) 9/10: Was craving a scallop-based dish and this one delivered. Savory, umami, and overall delicious.

I ordered takeout from Nagoya twice and both times my order was ready promptly (probably before) the promised time, and the sushi rolls were packed nicely and neatly with utensils, napkins and soy sauce included. Staff was super quick to greet when I walked in for pick up and found my order right away. I've tried one of their sushi platters, which came with an assortment of rolls -- all decent and tasty though nothing stood out, they all seemed pretty similar in taste. I also tried their scallop forever roll -- taste was fine, but the scallop didn't have any flavor (except all the sauce on top of it) by itself. The sea flower roll was light and refreshing, and the hamachi lover roll, well, was perfect for someone who loves hamachi. I liked the latter two more than baked scallop roll, so I'd definitely get those two again. Price was very reasonable for how much rolls typically cost (~$17 per roll). Parking in the lot can be tricky since it only has a handful of spots, and the interior of the restaurant is pretty small. I haven't dined in yet (only gotten taken out) so cannot speak to the dine-in service. Either way, they've been a solid spot to satisfy any sushi roll cravings!

This spot had the best reviews near me and I had to check it out. My first thought upon entering this restaurant was... wow this is tiny! I went here right when they opened so I was one of 2 groups at the restaurant to start. The service was prompt and water was refilled In a timely matter. The rolls of sushi arrived and the presentation 10/10. Taste 10/10. It almost felt the fish was fresh caught & cut before opening that day. As I'm enjoying my dinner more and more people showed up making it very noisy. My only issue with this place is the space. When I was ready to leave, I couldn't back my chair out without having the group behind me get up to let me out. Given I'm not a large person, this was a bit inconvenient to interrupt another tables dining experience just to get up out of my seat! Other than this small hiccup, 10/10 for this sushi Gem.

Taylor J.

5 stars for the excellent quality of fish, the nicest owners/staff, and the quaint ambiance. This is mine and my boyfriend's new go to spot for sushi. Although the place is small, I like that because the service is just that much better. They're so attentive and the quality of fish was amazing! He got a bento box with chicken katsu for our first time, and I got unagi nigiri and the spicy hamachi roll and I loved it.

It did feel a bit cramped but fortunately I was just in and out. Service was great too! We got the Lion King and a sashimi platter. The lion king was SOOO good. I always get worried ordering this at new sushi spots because I feel like it can be a hit or miss (especially when they load waaay too much spicy mayo on it lol) - this roll had the perfect amount where it wasn't too overpowering. The ingredients tasted fresh too! As for the sashimi platter - every piece was thick and fresh. I'd definitely come back for takeout! Make sure you call ahead of time.
