We had a nice dinner here last night. The food was great and so was our server, Pearce. The restaurant is trendy, open, light-filled. The manager stopped by our table, which was a nice touch. We enjoyed our dinner -- started with a 1/2 pound shrimp boil with sausage (really great sausage by the way), then shared a shrimp basket (excellently seasoned shrimp and fries). For dessert, we had the chocolate cake and bread pudding. Yeah. Very good. Everything tasted fresh. We noticed other patrons scarfing down oysters, catfish, and crab legs. We were really excited to try this restaurant. So my husband and I tried the catfish platter- which tasted like mold. The fries and hush puppies were ok. We also tried the gumbo which did not taste good at all. We did try the clam chowder which was so thick it could have been mashed potatoes. And the gumbo and clam chowder came in 2 tiny cups that cost over $8 lol. I added a cup of rice that I thought would have more flavor but it was literally a cup of plain white rice. We came around 7:30 which, we already knew, was going to be a hot mess because alliance is a dinner hot spot. We waited a little over an hour to be sat and all of that was okay at first. I get it. After waiting that amount of time, you'd assume the food would be spot on. It was definitely not. At first our server was on it, got our drinks in a timely manner and took our order quickly. But that is the high light of this review. When it was time for entrees, me and my husbands books came but my two kids food did not. At first we thought it was just running behind but we quickly realized it was not the case. Our server came to check on us and we asked where our kids' food was. She immediately just turned and went to the kitchen. Several minutes later she came to say she didn't put it in and that it would be out in a minute. Minutes came and went, and 20 minutes after me and my husband were served our kids finally got their food. So I started to eat my boil and it was the saltiest thing I have ever eaten. Seriously, it tasted like it took a salt bath. It was gross. Our server came and let us know she isn't used to having to write orders down, that she was sorry, and she took a kids meal off. The Dynamics of Shell shack has truly changed. Very personable and a genuine concern about how our food, drinks where when they would deliver to a table. The manager BLAKE stopped by the table to see how our meal was. Also explained that they were under New Management. Although it was very obvious the visit was appreciated. So Im in the industry, and I get that restaurants can get busy. Trust me, I get it. To go food has taken kitchens for a big spin and unfortunately it affects customers who dine in. The interior was basic, but I wasn't looking for anything special, just a place to get my kid some fried catfish. Arrived at 3:15, Spent 10-15 mins waiting for a table(I get we have to social distance)The staff was completely overwhelmed and wasn't able to offer a "standard" service. 1 appetizer took 20+ mins. Entrees came out directly after app was placed on table. The whole time I was promised normal silverware, but instead ate with plastic cutlery because they were "washing dishes". A single pour of whisky took 10 mins. The saving grace was the food. Nice portion of catfish, shrimp were spot on, and calamari was decent. What irked me was when I chatted it up with a manager, all blame was placed on to go food. She offered to show me a picture of what the line looked like with all the to go tickets. If I did that at my restaurant I would get ridiculed instantly. That's a company problem, not one that needed to be discussed with a customer. I don't blame her, I just think it would be in the best interest of management to keep what is hindering them, to themselves and offer up a free app or drink. If that were done I would have been ok with the stay I had there. So to sum it up, easily 1.5 hours spent there, spent 51.00 plus 10.00 tip on fried food that shouldn't have taken longer than 30 mins at most. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Absolutely disgusting. Not sure what was worse the presentation or the actual food. They put so much of their special seasoning on it that it literally looked like there was chili on top of it. It was so salty we could barely eat it and the Crab was so overcooked the shell would not crack it was more like rubber. Complained to the manager how awful it was which we never do but to have to pay $135 for a meal that I wouldn't feed to my dog is unacceptable. Didn't come or even discount the meal at all. This was my first time to Shell Shack. I had high hopes as the menu looked to be enticing, and the place is still relatively new. My wife had been with a friend after it first opened and had a good experience, so figured it would make a good date night. But I will admit, we must have went on an off-night. The service was awful, and sparse. We went on Friday 1/17, and even though it was my first time, I could tell they were in the weeds. There appeared to be no host at the host station, so us and everyone else would wait several minutes to be greeted and then seated. Once we were seated, it took about 10 minutes for a server to come over. Once we realized she was the server, we witnessed just how all over the place she was trying to serve tables everywhere. I made the comment to my wife "We better order all in one shot or it might be a long night." So we did, and she wrote it down. Then we sat and waited for over 30 minutes. We ordered a VIP Basket for two people. ITs not hard... they throw everything in a pot/bag and it cooks. If its not already cooking already in mass quantities. But we waited. And waited. Finally our server shows up and brings a basket of fries and hush puppies, telling us she wanted this to come out so it didnt sit under the lamp too long. Said the rest of the food was coming. But the fries tasted like they had already been under the heat lamp for a few minutes. Good flavor, just getting mushy from sitting there. And the Hush puppies were actually the best thing I had all night. Finally the food came out. The dumped the bag on the tray. But our sauces were not there. So the server looks at me and asks "what did you order?" She wrote it down the first time, so I dont know why she had to ask again. Regardless, I sat there and waited, and finally my butter came. But heres the problem with the bag we got. Three small chunks of sausage, over cooked. Two ears of corn, so over cooked and scalding hot they were corn much on the cob. No butter or salt, no flavor. NO potatoes, which was a drag. Maybe it was a blessing. There was a pound of peel and eat shrimp that were so over cooked, they were rubber like. To tough to eat. And the crab legs were not even two full clusters. There is no way that they would have been a pound of crab (pre cooked) The server came by and asked, "was it worth the wait?!" and her look of shock when I said, "No, it wasnt", was priceless. I explained everything wrong, and she said she would alert the manager. Which is the right thing to do. Its not her fault, she didnt cook or over cook the meal, shes just hustling to cover way more tables the she should have. The manager never came. When the ticket came, I asked for the manager. Once the manager came, and I explained everything, she took care of it. I appreciated that. She said she would comp the meal. I offered to pay for some since we ate it, but she took the whole VIP meal off. We tipped the server based on the original value of the ticket. I would probably never go back here to this location. There is another Crab place on the other side of the freeway which was fast service and huge crab legs, and you get 1/4 pound more for same price as a pound here. I think I will just stick with that. It was a good try. But for me, not worth it. The hand washing station was awesome though. They did try to make it right. And it was most likely an OFF night for the team, under staffed and struggling. But when I noticed managers just standing around while servers were running, and the managers were watching sports on the TV.... That was bad to watch as a patron. I appreciated the gestures, and efforts. But I would caution, that if you think its off as soon as you walk in, proceed with caution. read more

Today was our first time trying shell shack. We stopped in for lunch. Place seemed dead compared to the neighbor restaurants. But we got a very attentive waiter because of that so that was nice. He was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us good feedback according to our interests. I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich because most the seafood selections seemed to be a lot of food. My husband selected one of their crab boils. Food arrived to table in timely manner. Both our portions were large. And we both think of food tasted great. Our only complaint was price and portion. It was what we would expect for dinner. Wish they had a lunch menu. Less food at a lower price would have us back again. But we won't come back unless we bring a big apatite. We let the manger on duty know and he apologized for it not coming out correct as well as the not tasting well! He also said we have some new kitchen staff and we are working with them. After he said that and the waiter gave us the bill. We first had to let them know that they had to Comp the calamari that they already said they would Comp!!!!!! There was no offer to Comp the food or to at least give a discount for it coming out wrong as well as not tasting good AT ALL! Well let me say this!! I took my father in law and family there for some great seafood as we had a good experience once before! I have never seen him be some upset at the food that came out! He was some upset at the appetizer being burnt and cold that after the main course coming out wrong he did not eat anymore of the food! That right three upset me to the MAX! Tried to give this place a go on a Saturday evening. Arrived at approximately 6 PM. Was told there was a 30 minute wait for 20 empty tables. I had looked up the menu online and the food looked great. Ordered Moscow Mules at the bar that were awful. We didn't finish those. I went to the bar to get a beer and was passed by both bartenders several times. With a credit card in my hand, the female bartender finally made eye contact, but it was time for her cigarette break. A gentleman at the bar had ordered catfish and I asked him how it was. His response, "I waited 40 minutes for marginal fish." At that point my party and I left with another few parties and we went to Grub. This place needs to get its act together. There is a serious management problem. Managers need to stop watching Rugby on TV and pay attention to the patrons After the response from the owner suggesting their might be a delay in the kitchen - the bigger concern comes down to initial kitchen design. If you are only able to plate out food for a certain amount of tables then why would you have so many tables in the dining room? Sounds like this place won't be around for long. This place should be avoided like the plague! We want to support our local businesses, but some of the seafood restaurants in the Fort Worth Alliance area are horrendous. Having the grilled shrimp was a mistake. Our server didn't even bother to ask why I peeled only 1 shrimp on my plate and left it there with the rest of the dozen untouched. Recommended by our server, the shrimp dish was bad and smelled foul. As a general rule, we all know seafood can not be handled incorrectly and getting sick is not optional. To make it even worse, the waitress didn't even give back my change properly. Bad food, bad service, and the rest of my party are all in agreement Shell Shack is NOT the restaurant to dine in. Went here for the 1st time recently. It hasn't been opened very long so I thought I would give it a try. The place is nice fairly upscale looking and clean. When we got there during happy hour 4:30ish it was EMPTY. Maybe we just missed the crowd but we stayed until 6:00 and it was still pretty dead. The place is all seafood and it can be fairly expensive. They did not have a great happy hour special I think it was just a dollar of some of the beers and drinks. I did order the gator tenders and the crab stuffed tots. The gator tenders we really good and the portion size was worth the 9.99 price. The tots were ok. I will not order the tots again but the gator tenders will be my go to if I return. If you like seafood and do not mind spending a little bit of money this place is for you. The service was decent and most of the staff seemed friendly. Next time I will try some of their main dishes and see if it's worth the price! read more

I've been here twice, both times ordered the VIP. Super delicious both times! Plenty of food too, worth the price for sure! Dinner date with my husband the first time and it was a little packed and harder to get some service from our waiter. Especially when it was time to get the check. However, not as bad as it could have been. Our waiter was taking care of tables and we were showing grace. Second time was afternoon lunch with my older daughters, we all shared the VIP and it was more than enough and again, very delicious! Nick was our server and he was so great! The only reason I gave it 1 star, it did not give me a choice for no stars. To start it took almost an hour to seat 5 adults and 2 children. This involves pushing 2 tables together. There were 2 tables side by side one table was ready and the other table just required a paper tablecloth. Pointed this out to the host and was told after I clean another table i will take care of it. After she dissapeared for 10 to 15 minutes, I spoke to the manager, it took her another 10 minutes to push 2 tables together and walk 8 feet to tear off the paper tablecloth. I would like to add there were at least 13 tables that were empty. So wait time was about 58 minutes just to be seated at a table. The drinks from the bar were good and a fair price After placing our order for food. The wait time was about 59 minutes before they placed the first dish on the table. Instead of bringing all the food at once, it took 3 trips and each trip took 10 to 15 minutes. So the first served were finishing their meal as the last were served. The children were served last and should have been served first. ALL OF THE FOOD SERVED WAS LUKE WARM TO COLD. NOTHING WAS HOT.. The food had a good flavor, but with everything being cold the flavor did not matter that much. To sum it up wait time was way to long, management and host were not helpful in correcting the situation. All food was cold.... Contacting their customer service was unprofessional because all I spoke with wS a lady that took my complaint and said someone would contact me in 24 to 48 hours. To me that is BS because I want to talk to a person now, not at their convenience. I think spending almost 150.00 in the place of business, I should be able to talk with someone in authority when I call. Not when they get around to calling me. I also called the store first to talk with the day manager... my only choice was to leave a message and they might call back when they feel like it. Bottom line I will never waste my time and money in the Shell Shack again. Most of the complaints are of the same thing, excessive wait, cold food, management making excuses. One last thing, last night I went to a different place to eat, my wait time for a table was almost an hour, about the same as the shell shack, but once we were seated the service was quick, the food served hot and fresh, the dining experience was excellent. The wait staff were a team, all the way from the manager down to the person bussing the tables. That was why the dining experience was so nice and I always know I have a wait at Babes, just some places are worth the wait. The manager brought our food to the table because the waitress was busy with another table. The only reason I responded to this was your reply. Don't imply that I'm be unreasonable about a wait time or a poor dining experience. Don't make excuses for a lack of customer service. Figure out how to fix what is wrong so that the Shell Shack will continue to be there and make the dining experience worth the wait.
