So happy we stopped by to celebrate National Margarita Day! They had a $10 special for original, mango, and fresa margaritas, which was a great deal. For an appetizer, we enjoyed the ceviche along with the complimentary chips and salsa. One of the best parts of having a cocktail and appetizer here is the authenticity of the flavors. The margaritas were made with fresh ingredients instead of syrupy mixes, which made a huge difference. The Ceviche ($14) was made with pez dorado (mahi-mahi), tomato, lime, jalapeños, onion, and avocado. The lime really enhanced the freshness of the mahi-mahi, making this late lunch one I'd happily have again. I'm excited to try out more of the menu! It was also great to learn that this is a family-owned business that takes pride in providing excellent service and high-quality food. We'll definitely be back! read more

Stopped in for a 2 o'clock lunch; a pretty good crowd there for late lunch time. Usual fun variety of sports on the wall TVs for casual watching: soccer, horse racing, college sports today. Had a good couple of platers: Steak Fajitas for my wife, yummy, usual sides. Very good. The lunch version of Glo's Freaking Plater (good! Lunch is called the "Number 1"): beef taco, and two enchaldas (beef & cheese), usual sides (refried beans and Spanish rice). Everything was yummy. We usually go to the location in Watauga but tonight we came here. Differently colors of changes. In their menu and their food. Nothing bad. Still good. We cleaned off our plates and ordered 2 more tacos not seen. Place itself is clean, has a funky smell but not noticeable after a while. Chips and salsa was very good Customer service was great. Met with the manager - Tony. Good man. Good convo. Gave us a complimentary queso for our son. Our waitress was really sweet and patient. Reason is not getting a 5 is because of all the changes. My fish dish doesn't come with white rice and blacks beans anymore. The fish needs a little more flavor, the sauce was really good. My husband said he liked the chimichanga but wouldn't get it again. He would try something else. I used to get the steak enchiladas with guacamole sour cream sauce ( I can eat that all the time). Overall, pretty good. Everyone is so helpful with each others table. I heard this location is permanently closed now..... if only the owners and upper management would actually care about their locations and staff instead of just lining their own pockets, this may not of happened. Ever heard of a coat of paint? Rather cheap way to make something look nicer and like you actually care about it instead of having such a dull environment. Well not my favorite, but the server was very nice. This was my first time to Baja Cantina, I like the open space and cleanliness but the food was subpar and pricy for what you get. We had a brisket plate Mad-Mex ( was told it was the most popular) and lettuce wrap chicken dish (also popular) that were eatable but not enjoyable. Spices/ seasoning and plating/ presentation is off here. Even the chips were off, they are a hard,thick, and Multigrain like in texture. Pretty good visit. Daughter and I came in wanting something different. Service, atmosphere, menu all pretty good. The alternate 80s music was particularly cool with us! I've eaten at Baja for over 20 years. But recently management changed--and the entire wait staff we know and LOVE all QUIT at the same time. Think that means something?? We went to dinner there last night for the first time since the change. We ordered our usual "Perfect margarita" which was previously made with Casamigos. They are now using a cheaper tequila, but cost is still the same. And I can tell you with absolute certainty--there is NO alcohol in this margarita. $15 for a margarita with no alcohol in it. Really good food. Great staff. Excellent value. One Suggestion: This restaurant needs enforced signage on their patio door firmly stating, "NO UNATTENDED CHILDREN IN THE OUTDOOR DINING PATIO!!!" We chose to eat on the patio for late-lunch/early-dinner (before 5:00) on Saturday, the weather was beautiful. Initially, our family was the only one on the outdoor dining patio. As soon as we had our first round of sodas we were joined by 3 unchaperoned boys about 10 and eventually 2 unchaperoned boys about 13, and 2 unchaperoned girls about 11. We had all 7 of these unattended children on the patio with us, completely unsupervised for our entire meal. The 2 older boys weren't a problem and the girls were not so bad except for when yelling at the 3 horribly behaved little boys, who spent the entire time they were there, running around the patio, jumping up and down on the other 2 or 3 empty tables and jumping from table to table, running past our us and back and forth non-stop, constantly opening the door to the next to us to the indoor dining area to look inside or to stop by their own indoor table to get a drink; these boys were yelling shouting, and cursing (s4!/ and F*{4) and pointing at at laughing at our special needs child. So, you bring your children to a restaurant to eat or maybe just to day-drink and then you send YOUR children outside to the patio dining area to ruin everyone else's lunch so you can enjoy yourself and you think that's okay?!!! It was like dining on a playground at the mall; completely unacceptable! WHOEVER YOU ARE... your children need your attention! It was terrible! No parents came to check on them, no staff said anything to them, they were abandoned to the outdoor dining room like it was a McDonald's playground. I guess these parents decided, "who cares about anyone else or other customers or other families, or their meal or dining experience... and also, why bother teaching our children any manners or values, like don't curse and don't make fun of special needs children". If you don't want to share a meal with your children, why would expect anyone else to? Parenting FAIL! We didn't say anything to the parents, whomever they were, we never saw them, because why bother; if you dump your kids off on strangers and your children behave this way, its pretty clear you don't care and wouldn't do anything about it just because someone pointed it out to you. You'd probably cause an indignant scene rather than absorb any responsibility, because someone pointing out that your child is a discipline issue, which I'm sure you already know, is pointing our your inadequacy as a parent and THAT would be what you take umbrage with. We didn't say anything to the staff, because it is not their job to babysit customers' kids and they're likely afraid to say anything to a parent who probably can't conscionably handle the personal responsibility of hearing, "You've failed to discipline your children and now they're a problem for everyone else". Again, the food here is really delicious and every staff member we've encountered here was really kind and helpful; it's a good meal and a good deal. However, we won't make this mistake again; we'll just do takeout from now on; which, by they way, they always get right here. read more

Neither of us felt like having tacos on this visit, so we decided to try some of the sandwiches. Thuy had the "El Cubanito", which is Funky Baja's take on a Cuban. I forget what cute name my sandwich had, but it was their version of Philly cheesteak. The El Cubanito sandwich was OK, though it was literally dripping something oily. Perhaps butter from toasting the bun? Taste was OK, but I doubt we would have it again. My sandwich was also OK. It was not traditional in that they use cubbed beef, not thin sliced beef. Flavor was OK, but the meat was a little tough (not enough to ruin it). It was served with queso, which was pretty cool. Our server said he also likes it was salsa. I asked for some, but never got it. Oh, we ordered one sandwich with fries, and it was more than enough for us to share. So while today's sandwich choices we OK, neither item will likely get a repeat. PS. A basket of complimentary chips and salsa would be nice while waiting for your food. read more

I have been coming here for several years and the food is always solid...tonight Friday evening with my husband and daughter it's a bit cold out side and they chose to seat us next to the patio door it was miserable not not sure why anyone would want to sit out side but they did...between kids and adults coming back and forth and than servers and wait staff we could not get out of there fast enough...pretty disappointing the only person that cares was the waitress she kept apologizing but no one from manages bothered to say a word. It was cold enough that our food got cold before we could complete it. Again disappointed it will be a while before we return it if we do. Appreciate the response and we will give it a try again. Chill vibes, great food & drink. - Margs are strong and tasty. - I have been here a handful of times but always order the same thing (table side guac & fish tacos). Both are excellent. - Chips & salsa are legit good. The salsa can be anywhere from medium to hot on any given day. I take this as a sign they make it fresh daily. Our server is the reason they got stars on the board. He was fantastic; food and setting not so much. Seated by door to patio so every time the door opened (family with a gazillion kids seated out there so kids were in and out, out and in, in, out, back in, repeat) our table got hit with a furnace blast of not just hot air, but actual "hold onto your hats" gusts of oven-blast wind. That's no fun when eating tacos and trying to block out the literal shrieks from a table behind us with adult men and women shouting at each other like their lives depended on being heard. He thought today was "bring your girlfriend to work day". He would rather stand at the bar and entertain her rather than offer us water, refill chips, check margaritas ( which were 11 bucks and not good) etc... He had a very bad attitude. They should reconsider having an employee ruin what they may wish the customer experience to be. They also may want to meet the drink prices of competitors in that area. They also don't offer butter with tortilla's. Despite all of the minor stuff, the server can make or break the customer's experience. This guy was inappropriate and our groups will never return. So I googled funky baja looking for their menu since their website was down and got the yelp page. I couldn't believe all the bad reviews! I haven't been in a few months but used to go a couple times a month..I was worried something changed but went anyway. All you negative posters are crazy! Were you expecting fine dining?? This is a "hole in the wall" type place even though they are part of the baja grill family. $3 tacos..all of which are great btw..great margs and beer. This is our go to spot when we're craving Mexican food! The chips and salsa are delicious and they make the guacamole to order. I've never been a huge fan of guac, but I literally crave theirs! First time there. It would have been 4 stars except the prices seem a little high for their food. Walked in and it's pretty dark in their definitely bar atmosphere. Started out with margaritas. All three of us had one. They were good but no way worth $11 each. Kinda steep. We had chips/salsa and their loaded fries for appetizers. The fries are loaded with good stuff and worth trying. I stopped in for a quick lunch here and opted to sit at the bars for fast service. Not sure if they do chips and salads here as none were not offered so take that into account if you really like chips and salsa. Also take into account that there is no lunch menu which is also atypical for Tex mex joints. I ordered the Glo which includes a beef taco, beef enchilada and cheese enchilada with rice and refried beans. The meal came out fast and piping hot. The beef is well seasoned and the beef enchilada was my favorite. The cheese enchilada was average in my opinion. The beef taco came with the lettuce and tomato on the side which was weird because it goes inside. The hard shell was served hot which is a plus. They don't offer any other bean options just two types of refried which is also not typical of Tex mex places. I think Funkys is being different on purpose which I wasn't a fan of. Then to top it off she would fill up our waterswith an attitude and spill it all over the table It took all of me to calm down and not make a scene since my kids are with me. My recent visit to this restaurant once again "HORRIBLE' service. Why did I think the service was going to be better from the last few times. My luck I got the same waiter and he was the rudest and most incompetent server one can imagine. Lack of a personality and the rude attitude when your ordering or correct him on bringing out the wrong order "twice". I spoke to the manager possibly the owner and he was not helpful and defended the server telling me he was new when if fact I had him before several months ago..
