When you go to your favorite Mexican food restaurant, you imagine that people really eat these kinds of things in Mexico. Of course, in your heart of hearts, you know that they don't. Vaquero's is what they really eat. These kinds of tortillas can only be made by the old grandmother's in Mexico, who have never been to the US, and never plan on going. These tortillas here are obviously grown in house on a Metate (ok, I had to look that up), And the meats taste like they are marinated for days, in order to taste like this. My favorite is the Alambre Burrito. If you accidentally order something else in addition to the Burrito, you will probably be taking it home. And when you take home your Taco's, don't forget to take the chips with you. The chips are also obviously made in house, and fried in Lard before coming to every table. read more

First time visit, 530p on a Tuesday. Fairly empty at arrival but it got pretty busy while we were eating. I had the 377 burrito, wife had surf & turf burrito. Drinks are a little strange, only a couple options come in cups (unsweet tea, juices) and the test are single serving plastic bottles like you'd get from a store. I've seen this at other places, not a knock on the place, just an observation. Food was delivered quickly and it was super hot (freshly made), which I liked. My burrito was good, the bacon was crisp, not burnt, and the fries and steak were hot. I wish there was more cheese and sour cream in the LARGE burrito, but otherwise it was really good. The surf & turf was good as well. They have a salsa bar with various salsa options you can try/add to your meal. They are spicy and really good!! This burrito is literally massive and stuffed full. It had to weigh like a pound and a half! You can tell the tortillas are fresh and the burrito was so hot and fresh I could barely hold it without burning my fingers. Two people could easily share this. They do bring you chips and salsa. Used to think it was really good when I had visited before, especially given the price point. However, the last time I went the food was worse, very greasy and everything seemed like it was not fresh, while also being more expensive. It is pretty sus that they print their menus without the prices so you have no idea what you were supposed to pay. The people working there act like they hate being there. We were looking for a good lunch on a Monday and found this place on Yelp. It had great reviews and now we see why. It is located in a strip mall and is huge on the inside. Tons of seating! We ordered at the counter and was planning on taking it back to the house, but ended up eating there. The food came out within 10 minutes. We hit up the salsa bar while we waited. They had all kinds of salsa, limes, and a unique thing they had was grilled onions. I got street tacos, they are around $4 a piece but come with tons of meat. I got the 5 tacos for a little over $10, what a deal! The birria was good and the carne asada even better. It came with a full grilled onion and green salsa already on it. My fiancée discovered this place about a month ago after deciding our original taco place was too far He is a huge fan of the salsa bar they have there and I LOVE the pickled carrots with jalapeños. Every time we have gotten food from there, it's hot and has tons of flavor. The service is great, they're always kind and speedy! Delivery review: I kinda really love this place. My go-to spot for tacos, burritos, and enchiladas is 10 miles away. I decided to try this place out when I was hit with a huge craving for enchiladas and luckily they are on UE and much closer to me. I canncomment on the customer service or ambiance but their food is awesome! I've enjoyed everything I've eaten from here including chimichangas, burritos, and street tacos. A big bonus is they serve breakfast all day and that they offer chilaquiles. I've had breakfast for dinner many times. The portions are generous and their burritos are huge. This is a basic restaurant no frills here. You seat yourself, there are booths and tables with chairs. You order at the counter then someone brings chips and salsa. I ordered menudo with a side of carne asada; it was good but the carne asada could use more flavor like garlic and salt. My husband ordered the fajitas; beef and chicken, it was really good. They have a relish bar with different hot sauces, limes, pickled carrots and diced purple onions. They don't have fountain drinks just bottled which I'm not a fan of but they give you a cup of ice. I've seen this new place for months as I drive by and had plans to stop one day. The reviews were encouraging so we put it in the Friday night date list. They have plenty of tables for eating in and it's pretty basic inside the restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. We did get confused that it looked like they had alcoholic beverages from some of the pictures. They do not! No big deal though. The menu can be a little confusing and nowhere did we see chips and salsa on the menu. So we had to ask for that. What we wanted was guacamole but they don't offer that. A little surprising for a Mexican restaurant. So we ordered a Birria taco combination plate and the Vaquero burrito. Also the chips and salsa. They brought the food out before our chips & salsa. Even after asking them about not getting them. The three street tacos were just that. No combination plate with rice and beans we ordered. The tacos were not that great either. Just mediocre. The chips were really good but did have oil on them that sat in the bottom of the basket. Not a big basket either. The salsa was just ok. We ended up ordering a side of beans and rice because they got our order wrong. At $4 a piece I wish we hadn't. The beans looked and tasted like they were from Taco Bell. The rice had ZERO seasoning or spices. They were both barely warm. Now my Vaquero burrito was outstanding. Great flavor and very well cooked. The ladies that took our orders were nice, and the food came out very quickly! There were not many people dining in, but there were a ton of people picking up to go orders. Hubby had a super burrito and thought it was very good! My son had a surf and turf and it was good-too big for him to finish! My daughter had cheese enchiladas. I had a cheese quesadilla, a Birria taco, and a baja fish taco. I didn't care for the Birria taco, and gave it away to my husband, but the baja fish taco was delicious! What a gem in Watauga - I can't recommend Vaqueros enough. Whether it's a quick weeknight meal, or a hangover cure, Vaqueros fits the bill on all fronts. Pricing and portions - we have been to many Mexican places around the DFW area, Vaqueros pricing is the best around. Taco pricing is about $1.10 per, and the portion size is generous. With respect to the area, vaqueros has the best taco price. Their burritos (shown below may seem expensive at $9, but the amount of burrito you get justifies the price. Absolutely recommend. They have a salsa bar inside, and you are free to grab as much or as little as you prefer. All in all, I am not ashamed to say I am a regular at Vaqueros, because at the price point, quality of food, and consistency, it stands out. I'm upset that I hadn't left a review before, since been here twice for the nachos and got pictures both times, but overall this place is amazing food at a good price. This time I just had a craving for a breakfast burrito and going to a Mexican food place for those the first time, I usually get the chorizo. The burrito cost me a whole $6.99 plus tax and as you can see from the picture is massive and very stuffed. Many places tend to skimp on food, but not here. They stuffed it with a LOT of chorizo, eggs, cheese, and potato. Very flavorful as well, and not overly grilled so can still unroll it enough to add salsa if you choose to (for me this is a necessity). Now let's talk about the salsa. They have a few choices in a salsa bar, and even has to go containers for the salsa if you choose. I prefer the habanero as it has a nice lingering spice to it, but they also have guacamole salsa (which is good as well), very mild, mild, spicy, etc to include pickled onions, carrots and a couple of other items on their salsa bar to get as you desire. Though since I forgot to post previously, lemme talk about their nachos (I think it's the carne asada nachos I get, but could be wrong since been a bit since had it, unfortunately. They aren't as cheap as the breakfast burrito of course, but still only like $11 or so and are loaded with toppings, and I usually add 1 guacamole salsa and 2 habanero salsas into it and it's also amazing. I'm going to post pics of those from my phone as well, since, as I said, meant to review previously, but guess never got around to it. But, overall, if you want to get full without breaking the bank, this place is amazing for that... Just expect a bit of a language barrier if you don't speak Spanish (I don't) read more

It's so good to fine a local place to sit and enjoy a meal, today we did that I ordered the California Burrito which was huge and delicious flour tortilla packed with Carne asada,potatoes,cheese and sour creme it was delicious. I was going save half for later but instead finish it off. Diana had Caldo de res a little letdown for her as the vegetables weren't fully cooked she mentioned this to cashier she smile at her with no response. I'm guessing we got there a little and maybe they were still cooking in cooking process but not sure. All in all was good experience with a good variety on menu, place was clean and well lit. I'm from CA and I'll tell you....this is the closest you'll get to a burrito! I've come twice now and wanted to wait to review till the second time. First time was lunch and it did not disappoint. Their tacos are great! The look gross, to be honest but the flavor makes up for that. Their burritos are HUGE! I love pinto beans, not refined in my burrito and was let down the first time as they were out of them. A bit odd for a Mexican place to be out of beans. They portioned it so well, I loved it...aside from the overbooked, hard bits of bacon (next time I just won't get bacon in it) it was 100% spot on! Despite its promising facade, the experience fell short of expectations, with lackluster dishes and disappointing execution. Let's start with the chilaquiles, a beloved classic of Mexican cuisine and my favorite breakfast. I took a chance on a new restaurant but this was a far cry from the dish I had hoped for. The chilaquiles were undercooked, lacking the texture and depth of flavor that defines this traditional dish. Instead, I had a soggy mess that failed to deliver on taste or satisfaction, the texture was as if they put uncooked corn tortillas in a pot and let them soak without any cooking or heat. Additionally, due to a severe egg allergy, I ordered no egg, but even that instruction the kitchen failed to execute, and my order was covered with over easy. I ate around what I could. Moving on to the burrito, we had a California and Chorizo/ potato (don't let the potato fool you- they were French fries) while the flavors were passable in the California the Chorizo and fries were a mess and they failed to impress, although the tortilla was good. Overall, there was lackluster food and autopilot service that served customers foods they specifically ordered without in addition to undercooked chilaquiles and meh burritos. Perhaps there is potential here, but I won't be trying again. read more

An amazing local find in the Watauga area. I'm somewhat hesitant to trying new places but I'm glad I gave this place the chance! We ordered a few different things to try ... from tacos, enchiladas, etc. and everything was fresh and delicious. Everything was similar to California style Mexican food, but still delicious to those used to more Tex-mex style food! Prices range from reasonable to outstanding depending on what you order. Like someone said I think you can get 5 street tacos for around $8! Staff was outstanding, and friendly! We ordered at the counter and they brought our food out to our table. I saw so many good reviews for this Mexican restaurant on yelp so I decided to go there to try myself. This restaurant seems very new. When I walked into this restaurant I felt like I am back in California. I've been living in Texas for last 2 years working in Texas for over 10 years which I thought I will never able to find the California style taqueria. Well well well I finally found the place. I walked in to this restaurant and the menu I saw was all authentic Taqueria from Mexico. I don't like you go to the gas stations or Mexican restaurants in Texas they tend to serve ground beef sliced pork or beef that its been being cooked long ago in the warmer. This place cooks everything fresh and fast. While you waiting for your meals you can go get your own salsas at the salsa bar for chips.( free dining) This is a major difference between Texas Mexican Taquerias vs. California Mexican Taqueria's. It is kind of like a cafeteria style you order and you sit down. Very efficient. I like the attendant because she was fast. I got my Californian street tacos the cook must be from the Mexico region that I'm used to. I was so happy to find this restaurant. This restaurant does not have liquor permit so if you want to drink with your tacos, you should bring your own liquor. That's what I'm gonna do next time. read more

The shrimp cocktail is 15$ and you receive a large container of tomato water with onion and cilantro. The 5 shrimp you do receive are not deveined, fresh or prepared accordingly. The cook will get on the phone to pretend to be the manager and will try to gaslight you unless you insist on the issue. The only thing fresh the chef could serve was attitude. They also use the wrong juice, using watered down chelada beer mix instead of cocktail sauce to save money. Not returning here, which sucks because I got recommended this place by another local. This is all you get in a quart sized container btw. It was most likely an unsold batch of ceviche that the kitchen didn't want to write off as food waste and they were still stingy with it. read more
