My mom has been taking her Lexus there for years and recommends him to everyone. I just started taking our vehicles there and we are pleased with his work. 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heard from my neighbor about the great service and overall experience with this Shell Station and wanted to support more local businesses. My car was towed to this station over the weekend after it had broken down on the freeway-Jeff the manager called and said he would take a look. He identified several repairs needed and had all the parts to get the job done. Repairs were completed on time and he suggested the next repairs my car needed without any pressure. Fast forward to this week and I scheduled an apptointment to have the repairs done plus an oil change. I called Jeff, scheduled an appointment for the next day. Review of Gas Station only.... If heading North on the 5 Freeway, use the Culver Dr exit, which actually puts you on Trabuco Road , Turn right and it's literally right next to the off ramp. If heading South on the 5 freeway, take the Culver Dr exit and turn left. You would want to be on the far right lane when you are on Culver Dr because you'll be making a right onto Trabuco Rd. Once on Trabuco Rd, it's on the right side after the first traffic light you come to. If you are heading North on Trabuco Road, you'll have to make a U-turn at the light that leads to the 5 Freeway on-ramp. The reason you'd want to do that is because the Shell gas station wants everyone facing the same way (South) at the pumps as indicated by the white painted arrows on the ground. Be careful when you exit out of this place as it can be a bit confusing like it was for me late one night when I first came to the gas station. When you exit the pumps, make sure you stay to the right side of the tree that's used as as divider for incoming traffic. From there, you can make a right onto Trabuco Rd on be on your marry way. But if you want to head back to the Freeway or North on Trabuco Rd, you will have to drive straight out of the driveway and cross the street. There will be a small section of road with a stop sign. Stop at the sign and make a right. Freeway on ramp will be to the left at the light. If you are visiting the gas station at night, please be very careful. The gas station is lit well, but the surface street isn't. So just be aware of your surroundings and traffic all around. read more

If you are heading northbound on the 5 and need to get gas, it doesn't get any better than this. Take the Culver exit, turn right and BAM the gas station is right in front of you. UPDATE - 01/22 : After driving to the mechanic, we found that a spark plug wire had come loose from the distributor (potholes?...rough roads?...engine vibration?). Reattaching the wire resulted in the engine smoothing out considerably. (but kicked myself for not noticing such a simple fix, sooner). Sure glad it WASN'T a water-in-the-fuel issue. read more

Jeff and two other mechanics who were working on Saturday afternoon were angels to us. We had a minor breakdown, as a result of too much oil in the tank, busting loose all over my pant and boot while we rode on the 5. We had to make an urgent exit at the first chance. We got off at Culver Dr. and the best thing we could find was a bicycle shop named Jax. The guys there were cool and gave a couple of rags to clean up. Then we decided to get back on the fwy and look for another exit to find a gas station with some service. We went round the corner on Trabuco and there was the Shell. That's where we discovered Hog's heaven. Three of the guys who were working there yesterday are all riders, and they helped us out. They were knowledgeable, friendly, polite, and so generous. We were back on the road in no time, and meeting these guys was the highlight of our day excursion down to San Clemente. I was a passenger, and Dan, the driver of the chopper we ride, has always told me about the culture among riders. I got to experience it first hand yesterday, and I was moved, down to my core. My eyes just welled up a bit as I recall the experience. You want service with a human touch. This Shell station rocks. read more

We highly recommend Jeff and this Shell station! My wife and I have been in Irvine for a bit over a year. The Shell station was the closest facility to our home so we brought our car there for the smog test. Jeff, the manager got us in and out quickly. A few weeks later we heard a clicking noise from the left front tire, brought the car in and Jeff, again, was able to quickly diagnose the problem and fix it at minimal cost. Jeff really came through for us recently and tells you all you need to know about him. My wife called and said the car was jerking around and making a loud noise. I told her to bring it to Jeff immediately. Jeff diagnosed the it as a transmission problem. As we spent the weekend preparing for a multi-thousand dollar bill, Jeff, on his own called Nissan and found out that the transmission for our car was still under warranty. This kind act of his saved us thousands of dollars! Having a good auto mechanic is as important as having a good doctor. We have one and highly recommend him! read more

This review is for the lack of customer service and rude man at the Service Station. I didn't catch the guy's name but he carried himself like he was either the manager or owner of the Shell Station. He is the ABSOLUTE RUDEST and ARGUMENTATIVE person ever. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE at all and a TERRIBLE ATTITUDE. Backstory: I purchased a promo card a year ago which included several "free" services for $60. I needed an oil change and a smog check so I called them up and asked how much a smog check would be. The guy (Ryan) quoted me $48.25 out the door which included the certificate. The promo card I purchased included a "free" smog certificate valued at $8.25 so I thought "perfect!"...$48.25 mine the $8.25 smog certificate equals $40 smog test. Here is my complaint: When I went to pay, the total came out to $48.25 so I simply asked why that was since I had a "free" smog certificate and I thought the total would be $40. The man was so rude and told me that normally the price of an oil change is $50 and that there was a coupon/promo right now that discounted the oil change itself to $39.95 which does not include the certificate. He said that I was getting a good deal and that I could not use my promo card because you can't use 2 coupons at the same time. Fine. I understand that but I just expressed my disappointment because that was not clearly explained to me. Also when I brought my car in and showed them the promo card, they punched out the "free smog certificate" and never mentioned that the price they quoted me was a special and didn't include the smog test or that if I wanted to use the promo card, the regular price of the smog test would be $50 without a certificate. The man was so rude about it. I was simply expressing that I didn't feel the information was explained clearly to me. He denied and belittled my statement and said that no place would ever take two coupons. But I wasn't arguing about that. I was arguing that pricing and promos were NOT explained clearly. I was giving feedback. I wasn't asking for a refund, I wasn't refusing to pay. I was expressing how I felt. The man continued to argue with me. I was so angry with his attitude and his dismissal of me. I mean...really?!?! He could've simply said, sorry for the confusion". Instead he got all defensive and just shook his head at me and made it clear that he was done with the conversation. I couldn't believe it. I have never been treated that poorly as a customer. You can bet that I will NEVER return to this service station for anything. Not that they even care. Absolutely ridiculous and unbelievable how they would treat a customer (a returning customer no less as I've brought my car in for an oil change a few times because of the promo card I regret purchasing). Other minor issues: Took them 4.5 hours to complete the oil change and smog test Dashboard indicated Oil Life was at 50% AFTER the oil change. They said it was just a matter of re-setting my light but I question if they even changed the oil given the terrible customer service and attitude I received. SHADY! Promo card says Appointment Only but it's really first come, first serve. BTW that is inconsistent too as the first time I went in for an oil change they said I had to make an appointment. Since I was told I had to make an appointment, I tried to call and schedule an oil change and the phone was disconnected. I tried several times the same day and was not able to reach anyone. Next day I physically went there to make the appointment and the guy (different guy) was rude about how the phone is working just fine. When I told him I had called several times the day before, he said "well yeah...it was disconnected yesterday but it's fine now". WTF. Why the attitude when he knew it was disconnected? read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced at a gas station. Customers come last not first here. I have been coming here for years for oil changes and car maintenance, not because it was convenient but because they had always managed to get what was needed done. Even if it was a busy day, they had me drop off my car and finished service by the end of the day. There is a new guy working the auto service managerial position and he is not able to efficiently run this operation the way it used to. I'm sure there are lots of difficult factors that I don't know about that make it difficult to service everybody that comes in on a daily basis. But this new guy has turned me down multiple times now saying they are all booked for the day. Not once did this ever happen before. This gas station is conveniently located right off the freeway (the 5 and Culver exit) and the prices are always pretty competitive with other gas stations in the area. you dont feel like you're getting ripped off especially with gas prices being so high these days. another added bonus is that this gas station is 24 hours! however, my only gripe with this gas station is that they only have snacks/drinks in vending machines. there is no mini-mart/grocery store. since this is right down the street from my bf's apt, we came here looking for ice on the way out to the 5...and they didnt have that! what kind of gas station doesnt carry a simple item like ice?!? i was thoroughly disappointed :( i'll probably keep getting gas here b/c of the convenience factor but now i know to never come here for simple necessity items. read more

At the advice of the Manager, Anna, I was told to call back later to discuss any business concerning the customer service and propane refill policy of their station. They charge a flat rate per 5 gallon tank regardless of the amount of propane that is put into the tank. I brought in 3 empty tanks, and two tanks that were 2/3 full. I was charged for the full price on all three tanks. When I bring in my motor home I am charged for the exact amount of the propane I take. This policy seems illogical and completely unfair for the 5 gallon tanks. When I asked to speak with the owner she said she did not have that information, did not know who the owner was and was too busy to discuss it further with me. She promptly hung up on me. Hmmm...I think Anna missed the spirit of customer service. I'll try Anna later to see if she can redeem herself. This is not the first time I've asked to discuss the policy with the owner. I went here to get my car Smog checked. Initially, they told me to come back later. But then maybe the pissed look on my face made them change their mind because they then told me that they could take my car now. So, a big thumbs up there. As Kristin C. mentioned, the gas prices are quite competitive. It's definitely cheaper than the Chevron I usually go to (due to proximity, I usually go there). The only thing is the weird little path from the gas station back onto Trabuco heading back toward Culver. Basically, you have to cut across oncoming traffic on your left side, stop in between traffic coming from and going toward Culver, then make a left turn to head toward Culver or the 5 freeway. read more

This place is awesome!! Bill has such a great humor to lighten bad moods. I got a flat tire on my way to LAX to pick up a friend. I was in a hurry and not I the greatest mods to converse. All I wanted was to see the damage and get out of there. Bill wasn't rude at all despite the ambience and he ensured that he was don g everything he could. He lightened the mood with some jokes and it actually reminded me not to be so self-centered. Bill was doing ME a favor by helping me out despite the Saturday line. When he called to let me know my car was ready he said it was in excellent condition and didn't require any repairs, which surprised me b/c although I know it's in great shape, repair shops are always trying to scare you into "fixing" something. Came here for a smog check. Jeff, who is the manager of the auto shop, was really personable and got us going on the smog check. Overall it took about 25 minutes. Stay away as they will try to rip you off. I called and talked to Jeff the manager and asked him to do a safety check before I take my 4Runner for 800 mile (round trip) drive on my next trip. He said he can do the safety check for $45. I dropped my 4Runner on Saturday and left it there over weekend. On Monday, Jeff (the manager) called and said everything looks good as my car is in excellent condition, no issue with breaks, shocks and it is in good condition as it has only around 100,000 miles, being it 16 years old. He then said I just need to get few things done. Do a radiator flush and replace 2 hoses for $219, then replace 3 fan belts for $204, replace windshield wiper blades for $45 and with $45 for safety check, the total bill would be $513. I thought it was too high even if I had to get them done as he has said, so told him that I would think about it and called around (Vtec, Gene's auto repair) local shops in the area. Their quote on the same tasks were lot lower ($160 for radiator flush with replacing 2 hoses; $120 for replacing 3 fan belts). I called Jeff and told him what I found. He said they would just be giving out low price quote to get you in and will stick you with extras. When I asked him if he can match their price, he first said to have them fax him the price quote, so he can justify giving discount to his boss. Of course other shops wouldn't fax the quote based on a phone call and when I called Jeff back and asked him again if he can match the quote I got, he has sensed that I might not get the work done and offered to match the quote by saying he will have to give the task to the 'B" techque, instead of having it done by the "A" techque as the "A" techque guy wouldn't do the work for a lower price (meaning lower hourly pay, I assume). So, I asked him if "B" techque guy is qualified to do a good job and he said "yeah, he is a good kid". I said "why couldn't you give me a good price to begin with?" . . . That is when I knew for sure that I was about to be taken for a ride. I told Jeff that I will be there to pick up my car in 10 minutes. He hung up as if he was angry. When I went to pick up my car, he handed the paperwork to the gas station attendant (hispanic guy who I think is the cashier). I paid $45 but only thing I got was 1 page invoice that said "Safety Check, recommends replacing hoses and belts" . . when I asked him if I can get a list of exactly what was tested and exactly what was found that needed to be worked on, guy said there is no other paperwork and I will have to ask Jeff. I didn't want to stick around anymore, so I just grabbed my paperwork and got the heck out of there in disgust. Next day, per recommendation from a family friend, I went to to K&C Auto in Garden Grove and asked the owner (Daniel) to check my radiator, hoses and fan belts for me as I am about to take a driving trip which would be about 800 miles total. To make the long story short, he checked it out and said my 4Runner is in excellent condition and I don't need to do anything as my radiator, hoses, and fan belts are all in good condition and he has even checked my brakes, tires, oil, transmission oil, brake fluids. ======= STAY AWAY from this Irvine Shell Gas Station and the manager guy named Jeff. Go to other places that I hear is really good, like Vtec, Gene's Auto or even K&C Auto in Garden Grove as these guys seem to be very honest. I am spending about 15 minutes typing this on Yelp to warn my fellow Yelpers from getting ripped off as I always rely on the reviews on Yelp when I am looking for honest folks that runs good business whatever it may be. === RIP OFF . . . read more

Scam place. Kinda like Jiffy Lube who lies to it's clients in order to make a profit. I changed my belts on my car in December 2015, less than 7,500 miles in October 2016 they stated to my dad that the belts were old and dry rotted and needed to be replaced. After the oil change my visual inspection concluded that these belts were in perfect condition and not missing any ribs. Avoid this scam place like the plague. I intend to file a complaint of discrimination. What happened is not only unconscionable but also illegal. My gay roommate went in to pay for gas that we needed because we were almost out after heading back from San Diego. The man at the counter faked entering the data and said his card did not work. He told my roommate that he was broke and that is why the card would not work and he said this in front of a customer. My roommate, Max told him that he did have money and needed to get gas. The clerk told him to wait 5 minutes. My roommate patiently waited 5 minutes while the clerk helped two others with no problems. He allegedly tried to run the card again, but the post on the reader kept saying register closed. This indicated to me that he was not trying to run the card. After another 10 minutes of futility, I told my roomie to use another pump and pay directly at the pump. He went to put his card in and the reader said pump closed. It was only AFTER I TOLD THE CLERK THAT I WAS GOING TO CALL THE POLICE FOR DISCRIMINATION DID THE PUMP WORK AND ACCEPTED THE CARD... THIS IS NOT OVER... NOT IN THE LEAST.. I WILL CONTACT THE ACLU AND OTHERS AND SHUT THIS STATION DOWN!!! read more

It is refreshing to deal with a service manger that is actually caring and sympathetic to your problems. He takes the time to explain your vehicle's problem and how it can be fixed. After talking to him one time you know he is extremely knowledgeable about automotive issues. I don't know what they pay him there, but I'm sure it's not enough.He is an asset to that company and the reason I tell everybody about Irvine Shell. read more

Review on Service.... I give the Shell Service department 5 stars! After only living in Irvine for a week, both my car AND my husband's car had problems. First, my car lost a bolt in the brake caliber while getting off the 5 and we pulled into the Shell to check it. It was a Sunday so the Service department was not available. We left the car and keys with the cashier with a note. This was 2 days before Christmas! The next day the Service technicians called us to let us know they would have to order a part, but my car would be available fixed the next day. They were prompt AND honest! On Christmas Eve, my husband's car started acting funny so we picked up my car and dropped off his. It was fixed the day after Christmas. We are EXTREMELY impressed by the prompt service and the ability of work they perform. We highly recommend them and love that we live so close to great service! read more

Disappointed. Had a check engine light on and asked them to check the OBD code which should take 5 minutes and they said they "could not get to it until tomorrow". As he was ordering parts, I think he saw that I was stressing -and it was hot - so he bought me something cold to drink - that really helped. I had an oil leak and took my truck to this location for an estimate. They took my vehicle for about 45 minutes and was able to give me a rough estimate on the spot, before they could price out parts, etc. They let me leave without paying a dime (the estimate is normally $47.50), just based on my word that I would use them for the work. They called me back a couple of days later, after they had priced everything out. They gave me two options for the repair and gave me quotes on both of them. So I took in my vehicle and they worked on it over the weekend. They had the vehicle ready for me by the promised time. What really struck me about this repair was that they could have nickle and dime'd me on the repair and used every penny of the estimate (and I would have paid it), but instead the total (with tax) was a fair amount less (~10%) than the the lowest estimate they gave me (and the estimates did not include tax). In addition, the repair I needed required and oil change that they forgot to include in their estimates. BUT, they didn't try and figure out how to get any of that money back in the final bill. I felt that these guys were honest and were not trying to make a ton of extra money off of me. They did the repair in the time they said they would, they charged me less than they said they would and did extra work and didn't try and recoup any of those costs. They won me over and I won't hesitate to take my vehicle here again for needed repairs and smog checks. For now, I assume the work was quality and will continue to monitor to situation to make sure the oil leak has stopped, but I will update here if the repair did not work. My experience, although painful (because all vehicle repair work is painful for me, no matter how minor), was a very good experience. Everything went as planned and it cost me less than I was quoted. The people I interacted with (even the mechanic, briefly) were polite and courteous. read more
