The manager loudly reprimanded the cashier about a customer-service complaint while she was working at the register. Customers and employees could clearly hear the conversation, including his statement that another complaint could result in her termination. The employee was only a few steps away from the register, so the conversation was neither private nor discreet. Several customers expressed concern about how the situation was handled and felt the employee should have been spoken to privately rather than disciplined in front of customers and coworkers. The cashier later stated that she felt humiliated and embarrassed. What concerned me most was not that a manager addressed an employee's performance. Managers have a responsibility to do that. My concern was how it was done. Corrective conversations involving an employee's performance and continued employment should be handled privately, professionally, and respectfully. As a Black woman, I found the entire experience particularly troubling. Some customers who witnessed the restaurant incident also questioned whether race or gender may have influenced the manager's treatment of the cashier. I cannot speak to anyone's intent, but I can speak to what I personally witnessed, and the employee deserved to be treated with dignity. I am sharing this review because businesses should understand that how they treat their employees matters just as much as how they treat their customers. I hope the restaurant's ownership or corporate representatives review this incident, address appropriate management practices, and apologize to the employee for discussing her disciplinary matter publicly. Consumers have choices. I choose to spend my money with businesses that demonstrate respect and professionalism toward both employees and customers.

She gives me more rude facial expressions and then turns her back to shield the bathroom code from me and flings the door open and walks away. I do understand that you have policies and procedures that you have put in place to make sure the restaurant runs smoothly. However, your staff doesn't have to be rude and nasty.
