First visit to Shannon's and have to say, it's not a five star...Seems to be a popular local favorite for a certain spectrum of the population, one I've not reached yet;) The prices are very reasonable, two of us had the breakfast buffet for $21.00. Given the price, I can't really complain much, but I also can't say it was anything spectacular. They had lots of food choices, but lacked real flavor. The service was good and my coffee kept full, but I was taken aback when the waitress approached me to warn me we were sitting next to "a homeless person who sometimes causes problems and if she did anything they would throw her out." Everyone has the right to be served and treated with respect and dignity...the person was just fine, a little chatty, but likely lonely. It really made the experience uncomfortable. Not sure if the rest of you guys have tasted food before, but I assure food is far better and more edible than the crap that they're serving here. I ordered the breakfast skillet. As much as I've tried to repress the experience of eating this meal, I feel like I have to give fair warning to anyone else venturing here. What's interesting is the service. My hostess took my drinks order of coffee and water. My best friend got the same. Promptly our waitress was there. My waitress was nice and polite. She wanted to know what we wanted. What's interesting is the time it took to cook our food. It took less than 2 minutes from second we ordered for the food to arrive. it's suspect too. My food wasn't fresh. Either that, or Shannon has discovered the secret to time travel. SCIENCE! The toast seemed okay, but the bread was covered with fake butter. I don't understand why you would use fake butter, but this is just the start. I don't think that I have too big of a beef with the sausage gravy, but I wasn't a fan either. The eggs were clearly not made from eggs. They eggs laid in an unnaturally thin flaky manner over some potatoes onions and green chilies. I wanted my eggs scrambled. These were not scrambled eggs. At the very best, they were the crappy school cafeteria egg paste. Strangely, I remember the school cafeteria's eggs taste better. I'm not sure why the green chilies were in my meal, but they didn't compliment anything, and it tasted like crap. You know what's a good amount of green chilies? WAY LESS THAN A HANDFUL, because I had a handful. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't spicy, it was pungent and unnatural. The potatoes and onions sucked. I'm not sure why they sucked, but they sucked. My best friend complained about his omelet. Apparently, his eggs weren't real either. The omelet had a melange of crappy vegetables.Mushrooms, onions, and of course green chilies. I didn't try it. He told me it sucked. In fact, he's convinced that he's never had worse food in his life. I think this maybe hyperbole, the place is probably top 10 worse places, but it's not the worst. You know what the best part of the meal was, the ketchup and tabasco sauce. You can't screw up condiments. In fact, you want my recommendation, if you're here, put some ketchup on your napkin, then eat the napkin. If you're still hungry, try using your knife and fork to shave a little bit of the wood off the table. I'm pretty sure if you went to town, you could shave some wood pulp off. This might go well with ketchup, and is probably high in fiber. For desert, I recommend chair a la mode. Wait, I'm being too harsh. The tap water wasn't awful either. Kudos on your water. read more

Don't eat here!! We were in line BEFORE 11am for breakfast. We expected BREAKFAST. 10 minutes after we were seated the waitress came to take our order. When we ordered she said they don't serve breakfast after 11am. We are traveling and we tried to find a breakfast alternative to Cracker Barrel. The seating is very awkward, the service is rushed (just want to get you in and out), the food is all deep fried and buttered up, there are very few healthy options here, and the taste of the food is very bad. Just an awesome restaurant. It's pretty well known with the locals and gets crowded at meal times. The prices are reasonable and all the food I've tried is great. The waiters are all mostly very good veterans of the business. If they were not good they would not last long. During rush times waitresses barely stop moving. It appears they make descent tips as there is very little turnover in their staff. Things I recommend here are. The pork tenderloin sandwich is probably the best in Bloomington Normal. The meatloaf is legendary. The horse shoe is very good. The chili is excellent. Fried Chicken yummy. Italian Beef very good. They have a daily special board near the entrance and I've found some winners there like the beer cheese soup. Try it and you'll probably make it a regular go to restaurant. read more

Too bad you can't go lower than one star because this place gets a half star for having okay coffee. The food was completely wrong. Eggs looked like a yellow crepe not sure how you even do that. We just had the worst customer service that we've ever had at Shannon's. Food was ok. But customer service was horrible. When we confronted them about it they were rude and in denial. Our waitress, who was supposedly a manager, flat out lied. We told them that we wouldn't be back. They said that they didn't care if we came back or not. Shannon's is the best breakfast place in town!!! If I'm in the Blo/No area I make sure I go to Shannon's for breakfast. The service is always outstanding and the food is made to order and arrives at your table pipping hot and fast. The past few times we have gone, Brian has been our sever and he is personable and all around great!!! They even give us to go cups of our ice tea which is a nice touch!!! There's a buffet too that many people seem to enjoy. We order off the menu and we are always 1000% satisfied with our food order. The hash browns are made fresh to order, the quality of their ingredients are great and cooked right. We usually split one pancake and it is dreamy. Their prices are very reasonable. I went to Shannon's with a few friends for breakfast. We all chose to get the buffet because it had all of the breakfast essentials. It even had Snack Packs! Everything we ate was perfect and you could stuff yourself to the brim. Though the food was good, it just didn't stick out or impress me. There are several breakfast places that can compete with Shannon's. I would definitely go back if I wanted a low cost breakfast buffet, but it would not be my first choice. read more

Opted out of the breakfast buffet and ordered off the menu. Huge portions for the money. I substituted a pancake for my toast and it was MASSIVE. And delicious. It was classic diner food that hit the spot. Our server was great, very friendly and fast with refills and the check. The buffet looked really good too with lots of fresh fruit on it. Only one star deducted for probably the worst coffee I have ever had in a restaurant. Watery and weak with no recognizable brand flavor to it at all. I always opt to not eat here because the home cooked food doesn't taste anything like my mom's home cooked food. It tastes more like school food to me. I do think they make a mean buffalo chicken sandwich. The chicken is huge. I think they split a huge chicken breast in half. That's the only thing I've tried there that I liked. Shannon's hash browns with sausage and 2 eggs on top is the only dish I've ever ordered and I love it. I hear their lunch and dinner is good to but I've only come here for breakfast a dozen times or so. This is one of my families favorite stops for Sunday breakfast after church. I loved this place. It's a local diner with ample seating located near the State Farm south campus and it serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner with lashings of coffee. I had eggs, bacon/sausage, and hashbrowns a few mornings, a breakfast steak once; the only problem I had was the ribeye was unevenly cooked and not the medium rare I wanted, but, I was not disappointed. The price and value I found were both extremely reasonable; I'd prefer to eat here than a chain, which can often be expensive and not of good value. read more

Shannons is the place to have breakfast in Blono. Weekends they have a breakfast buffet like no other in the area. They have blue plate specials every day. The buffalo chicken sandwich is the best I've tried hands down. Just simple American food served by very friendly servants at reasonable prices. What more can you ask for. read more

I think the French toast could of been made better. The seasoning was way off. The gravy was way to thick and not enough flavor. I wasn't totally disappointed but I expected more.
