I'm always cautious of places that use the term "five star" in their name. However, Shannon's lives up to the title. The service is quick and friendly, the food is delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. After being in Kentucky for a few months for a semester clinical rotation, this place reminds me so much of a Kentucky-style eating establishment, from the hospitality of the staff to the country-style offerings on the menu (they even had Derby Pie on the menu). I also appreciated that the menu was diverse, but not too extensive; big menus just confuse me. When all was said and done, my fiance and I had a lovely breakfast for two for under $15 total. We came here as a large group on an early Saturday morning. They had a breakfast buffet going for $8 which is a great deal but you can also order off the menu for plates less than $5. Our waitress seemed a little frazzled by the size of our group (15) so taking orders and bringing our food took too long. Not all of the food came out together 3 of us got our food and finished eating before everyone else got their food. I got a BLT and it was amazing, I don't know what type of mayo they used but it was very good! I hate to give a low rating to a local restaurant. We need more not less of them. However, my experience with the food here warrants it. I want to first state that our waitress was very friendly. Upon our arrival on 6/16 for lunch, we noticed the parking lot was full....though, there was overflow parking right next door. The establishment was SUPER busy and almost full....and it is a LARGE restaurant. I asked one gentlemen diner what I should order...he said "anything, we dine here almost daily!". So I have eaten here about a dozen times. I really don't think that a review should be done based upon one experience unless that experience was so tremendous and traumatic you really have no choice. The Breakfast at this place is as good as it gets for a diner atmosphere. My eggs have always been cooked to perfection and the meats are very good. As mentioned, the hash browns are outstanding. I would strongly recommend this place for breakfast or lunch. Dinner was a little disappointing. There are mainly fried items on the menu but they do have a selection of other items not involving grease. I have only had dinner twice here. The first time, I ordered the Walleye. It was very greasy as it was battered and fried. I should have expected that but, thought it might have been better. It was flavorless as there were no spices. Met up with some old college friends and our hotel was on this end of Bloomington. So we asked at the front desk where a good breakfast spot was (on a Sunday at about 11am.) They recommended Shannon's. We arrived and the parking lot was completely FULL. We walked ito the place expecting a 30- 40 minute wait, but there were tables available. They seated the 3 of us promptly. Most people seemed to be there for the breakfast brunch buffet. 2 of us had entrees, one had the buffet. Our waitress was pleasant- but no nonsense- and constantly kept our coffee cups full. That was REALLY nice- as we all needed the boost that morning. The food was all under $6, buffet was $7-something. Taste was fairly bland actually, but a bit of salt and pepper did the trick. Love this place! Nice place to go in a small group or the whole family! I have had so many things here, and they have all been wonderful! I have never tried a new thing and thought, "Well that was ok/so-so/terrible and I never want to order that again." The chicken is perfect, very crispy. The walleye is fantastic! I highly recommend this place for breakfast. I love the Shannon's Hash browns. That is biscuits, sausage gravy, cheese, and hash browns. I get mine without the onions. One of the best breakfasts I have ever had. I have also tried the horseshoe for lunch and it was just okay, so this rating is purely for the breakfast. This place is always busy with regulars which is a good sign, and the wait staff is very friendly and most are happy to talk to you. The individual items on the Shannon's Hash-browns meal are probably all just a little above average, but together they complimented each other and no one item overpowered the others. We came here as we were heading back to Virginia after a vacation. After scrolling through multiple restaurants I found this one and thought we'd go try it. We were so happy we went there. Well, next on my list for Sunday Breakfast in the area brought me to Shannon's Five Star. I've been here before one time, got the breakfast buffet, and it was fine. For a proper review I figured I should order off the menu. I got there at about 8:30 and things were busy. I was seated quickly and greeted by my waitress immediately. My first cup of steaming hot coffee made it to the table in about 3 minutes. The coffee was about typical for this area as far as flavor, nothing special, but it'll do. I ordered the "Farmers Market" as it pretty much covered most breakfast items in one meal. Eggs, Hashbrowns, Bacon, Sausage, Ham, Biscuits, and Gravy. All in all it was a good meal and the service was great. While it was not a five star as the name suggest, it was decent and I wouldn't have any issues with a return visit. read more

Let me first say that its a diner sort of place, so I'm rating it as diner food. I had a BLT sandwich and a piece of peach pie. The bacon was crispy which I like, the lettuce and tomato were fresh. The pie was warm and the crust was good. I was happy with my meal. They have carpet on the floor and acoustic tile on the ceiling, so its not noisy. Got there at 12:00 on a Saturday, and the place was nearly empty. Now I see why. The food is mediocre at best and the service was terrible. Neither the wait staff nor the management seemed to care at all. In the time we were there, there was more than once where literally no staff was visible except for at the register. The just disappeared into the back. Of the 2-3 waiters, not one of them moved as if they had people waiting on them. There is no kids menu at all. The only thing I could order for my kids was a side of fries. Ordered a sandwich and a side for myself, and they messed up the sandwich. Told the waiter they messed it up, and asked for the bill. She brought out the bill, with the sandwich still on it even though I hadn't eaten it... On our way out, there was another person at the register who was upset with his meal as well.
