There were people there, but plenty of tables available and we were immediately welcomed. Service throughout was excellent and attentive (coffee cups never emptied). One key for me when I go to diners is the potatoes. They offer both American Fries and Hash Browns. I got the Hash Browns, which were excellent - nicely browned, cooked perfectly. My friend got the American Fries, which looked great (not the big chunks of potatoes, but a much more cohesive potato dish). I went with the classic eggs benedict. It was good but not great. The eggs were jammy instead of runny (OK), and the hollandaise was a little overpowering. Everything else our group got was great. If you're looking for a good version of classic diner fare, this is an excellent choice.

From the first moment you walk in to the slow walk out the door you are SATISFIED!…read moreMy husband and I have have lived in Washington for 5 years and had never stopped in to Washington Family Restaurant. I really wanted some 'diner' food last night. I ordered the 'For Dad' breakfast. 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon slices and 2 sausage links. The hubs ordered the Gyro. We were seated right away by this amazing waitress Kay. She was perfectly attentive. Not in our face but not ignoring us either. Our food arrived quickly and it was delicious! My scrambled eggs were perfect, pancakes were fluffy and just the right amount of sweet. Bacon was crispy and sausage links were tasty. Served with enough butter to actually cover the 'cakes and warm maple syrup. My husband's Gyro had a good portion of meat on a warm pita with tomatoes, onion and tsitzki (sp?) sauce along with crinkle cut fries. The meat on the Gyro was freshly sliced and grilled and the tomatoes and onions were fresh. Not the type of vegetables on a sandwich that has been sitting out and rubbery. We were stuffed half way thru each of our meals. Again Kay was perfectly attentive while we ate. The atmosphere was that of a diner but a clean well cared about diner. The slow walk out the door was because we were stuffed and happy! Definitely will go back with the kids and start making regular visits to The Washington Family Restaurant! And you should too! The hubs and I thought there was a problem with our bill... $19.25 for both of us? That never happens anymore!
