The corned beef was incredibly tender and full of flavor. The Brussels sprouts were different--they were shredded and mixed with sauerkraut--but they were still really good, even though they weren't like any I've had before. Tonight I was here for the first time. I am here on business and my colleague recommended it. The two of us spit the stuffed dates, cheese curds and the prosciutto and cheese pizza. We stayed the night in Normal while on our Route 66 trek. The front desk gal suggested this restaurant and I'm glad we went. Andrew, our server, was very personable and prompt with our food and drink refills. Had the fish & chips and that beer batter was stellar. The potato wedges were cooked to perfection. The only disappointing moment was when the hostess(girl with the long hair and glasses) made a power play and told us it would be a 45 minute wait while the restaurant was half full at the time. When the other hostess came back from seating the 4 with dogs outside, she seated us right away. It was so good last time that we visited again during our most recent trip to Normal. This time we tried the spicy chicken sandwich. I had it without jalapeños, and my son had it with. I got food poisoning from the big pub burger. I asked for a well done burger, and it was literally raw. It was pink. It came out about 15 minutes later which must not have been along time to cook the burger plus it was salty. This is exactly why I don't trust eating burgers but the reviews seemed good but I'm very disappointed. The servers were friendly. It took a while for our order to be taken and for the food to come or even though it didn't appear that busy. The menu is somewhat odd to me, a huge variety of random stuff. I feel like it would be more successful if they picked a niche for food and stuck with it. The menu is confusing. I think a simple food menu to go with the extensive drink menu would go a long way. At my table we had a bacon cheeseburger, side salad and a sausage pepperoni pizza. I got the pizza and it was super tasty. I also got the pamplemousse spritz and it was just ok. The pizza had sausage, pepperoni, tomatoes, mozzarella and pesto. Very tasty. So in 2018 we took a short weekend trip to Champaign, went to Allerton, got lost in the woods while towing a child who didn't walk and felt we were doomed. Went for lunch with a reservation on a Friday. They were very busy so I was happy I reserved. The service was awesome (Emil was our server). We ordered two apps (Snack plate / Pretzel) and all got lunches (Pickled Mac n Cheese, Fish tacos, Club). We didn't want to eat too much since we had a lot of walking in the sun coming for us. Everything was great. Here's the deal with Destihl and what I like about it: Lots of components to dishes and it works. Each component is well-thought out, very fresh and seasoned perfectly. I wanted to order everything on the menu. The first time wasn't a fluke (I was afraid it might be). I'm glad they are still creating great food and service. It was great weather so opted for outside. Our server Monica N. was absolutely fantastic. So friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Great cocktail, beer and wine options. He sat us at the table farthest from the door. Once at the table he was arguing about our request. DESTIHL has been a staple in Bloomington for many years now and it never disappoints. They have a great selection of beer, locally made, but the food is very underrated. I have never had a bad meal and recently was in town and had dinner at the original location. I went with the fish and chips and the taste and presentation was excellent. The service is always good and the food was some of the best I have had in Bloomington. They have some limited outdoor seating when the weather allows and a good sized bar. I have also had the stroganoff and burgers in the past and both were worth trying. I would recommend the larger brewery if you are looking for beer vs. dinner. read more

We have now been to the Destihl restaurant twice and we loved both experiences! Probably our favorite meal while in town! We used Tock to make a reservation in advance, just to make sure we had a guaranteed spot. From the moment we walked in, the service staff took good care of us. From being greeted and sat down to the hostess, excellent service from the waitress, and a kind farewell on the way out. And the ambiance of the building is wide-open, chic, modern, and clean. It really feels like a fancy upscale restaurant, but with very reasonable prices! Both times we visited, we started with the shredded Brussel sprout salad. It is so delicious, flavorful, light, and wholesome. We also got flights both times. Flights are made up of four beers. There are always prescribed flights, as well as create your own. My husband likes to get the prescribed flights and I like to get the make your own. Some of our favorites include "Extended Jam," "Key Lime Gose," and so many other of their IPA's. Both times my husband got a pizza. He thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and flavorful ingredients and the heartiness of the pizza overall. The first time I got the ahi tuna salad and it was so delightful! Refreshing and light, while still bursting with flavor and filling, I walked away happy. The second time I got the special penne Ragu with garlic bread and it was the perfect hearty meal for a cold day. Destihl has won our hearts and tastebuds. We followed the recommendation of a nearby dealership and are so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the space felt inviting - flooded with light, warm atmosphere, and a beautiful, fully stocked bar . As Germans, we had to try the Schnitzel and Spätzle. The twist of mixing raw red cabbage directly with the Spätzle (instead of serving it on the side) surprised us, but it was ABSOLUTLY delicious.
