Food was a little above average. Service was a little below average. Unfortunately the door handle as you come into the restaurant was insanely hot. They had a small sign, but my 8 yr old niece ran in and opened it without reading first (as she's 8 and all) and burned her hand! -- they absolutely need to cover that handle with something to avoid that for future younger kids....as we were getting our other kid out of the car when that happened before we could see the sign. So unfortunately that burned hand set the place back before we had a chance to give it a fair shake...and simply because of that, I cannot recommend the restaurant for families with younger kids....the metal handle is located as such that it's directly in the line of the sun...and the restaurant clearly knows this is a concern or they wouldn't post that sign. read more

We were in Bloomington, IL for my son's E-Sports Tournament and on our second day we decided to eat at Giordano's for lunch. So we were already inside Giordano's with all the plates and gave our order. Unfortunately, all our order were not available except for the deep dish pizza. Even the kids meal is not available. I've read several reviews that they serve frozen pizzas so we decided to just leave. Frustrated and hungry, we browsed YELP for a nice restaurant nearby and saw Jack's.. We then decided to go there since it's near the gas station and also near Von Maur and Target. Entering the restaurant we were already impressed, those ceilings are like first class.. I can't take my eyes off their ceiling. We were greeted by a nice lady who happened to be the only server and host at the same time. The place is not that big, but not too small that it's quite impressive to see only one person cater to everyone's needs. It's lunch and so the place is not full as well. So sitting down we were immediately asked for our appetizer, we ordered the hummus and I was surprised it came out quick. All 4 of us enjoyed it because it came with hot naan and surprisingly carrots and cucumbers which to me fit in perfectly well. I mean, I thought only naan is perfect partner with hummus but now I know cucumber and carrots works well too.. Our main dishes came in, we were delighted by how organized the lady was in taking orders and slowly getting those on each tables. Take note, she's the only one there, and she is all smiles and as if it was an easy task for her. We were impressed as well. She visited our table several times to ask how are we doing, and she is the only one there, again.. We ordered the Gnocchi to share for our little one, the roasted vegetable past.. and then the highlight of our meal, the skewer tower. These food blew us away.. they were tasty, not salty, all the perfect seasoning on the pasta, the rice and vegetables that came with the tower and the skewers themselves. To add to that, the skewer tower came in with flames in it, to keep the food warm, it lasted around 5 minutes, but that was so awesome to see. My favorite was the naan, roasted potatoes, side veggies, chicken skewers (it seems like this was marinated so well, I can taste it) and ground lamb skewer. The Gnocchi was so good as well, it fills you up easily, plus it was so creamy but not salty at all. We were all happy with the meal and we love Mediterranean food so Jack's really stepped up and made us all happy with this trip! Second visit to this restaurant and this experience is consistent with the first visit. It's BYOB and, yes, they have corkscrews if needed. We brought wine but most patrons chose to enjoy their meal with soft drinks. Very neat and nicely decorated inside. One would feel comfortable either casually or formally dressed. It's quiet which makes it easy to hear everyone at your table. It shares a building with a laundromat but don't let its neighbor fool you as to how wonderful this restaurant is. Service is attentive and knowledgeable, and the food is amazing! They understand how to season and how to let the base flavor of the food come through. We started with soups - carrot for her and chicken noodle for me. Both very flavorful and the chicken noodle was well balanced with its ingredients (meaning, there was the right proportion of chicken, noodle, vegetables and broth.) Her entree was fish tacos with mixed veggies and I chose the gyro sandwich, fries and mixed veggies. The servings were generous and, again, very flavorful. The veggies were a good mix of choice veggies. With tax, the tab came to $57. A good choice for a destination meal if you live in the area or for a break from fast food if you're swinging past on the interstate. read more

We stopped in on our way to a concert in Peoria. We picked because it's just a few minutes off the interstate and had good reviews. It didn't look like much when we pulled up but when we stepped inside our opinion changed instantly. The decor is lovely. Lots of woodwork and appropriate lighting with an air of elegance. We were seated promptly and our drink order was taken within moments. Without going into crazy detail, the chef has mastered the flavor profile of every dish we tried. I can't believe I haven't been here before. The flavor profile on the gyros were on point! We had grilled veggies and mashed potatoes and both were delicious. We walked here from an area hotel and the minute we walked in, the decor and atmosphere felt upscale yet relaxed. We were greeted by friendly staff and asked for her recommendation - it didn't disappoint! We stopped here for lunch one day while passing through. The restaurant looks pretty fancy on the inside, which is not what I was expecting. It looks kind of like an upscale Italian place. However it's not Italian. It's hard to say what kind of restaurant it is, maybe I'd say Mediterranean? Anyway, I had the gyro and my wife had the chicken Alfredo flatbread. We tried this place out due to the 4.5 star rating. My first impression was not great. There was a weird sewer-like smell as soon as you entered. The lights were super dim and they were playing light jazz at 1pm in the afternoon. The decor seemed very formal, dark, and outdated. We almost left... But I am glad we stayed. Our server, Alec, was professional and very sweet. But the BEST thing about the place was the food! Wow... Just delicious. The Angus burger with a fried egg was a big hit with my 18 yr. old. The fries were amazing... great flavor, crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. I was scared to order the salmon burger coz salmon is often overdone. Not this burger... Perfection! And the Philly steak sandwich was just as good. I liked the twist of using a pita type container. Compliments to the chef. If they would only brighten up and liven up the place, I think it would bring more people in. The restaurant is located in a college town so IMHO the ambiance should reflect a more youthful and contemporary vibe. When we mentioned something to the owner (not to complain but to offer helpful advice) she was very open. She immediately changed there music. What a difference... Surprisingly good! Located in a small strip center next to a laundromat. Unassuming store front but, once inside the place, the atmosphere was super comfortable and immaculate. The menu is a broad selection of foods from the Mediterranean region. We tried a Greek meat kabob and a Philly cheesesteak pita. Both were exceptional. We finally had a chance to give Jack's a try, and we were glad we did. After a bit of debate, we went for the skewer tower and selected different meats to try - beef, chicken, lamb and salmon. The presentation didn't disappoint and all the meats were cooked perfectly and had great flavor. We would have preferred bigger portions of the sides of veggies, rice, and sauces. They've done a nice job converting the physical space so you feel like you are enjoying a dining experience rather than a converted retail space. We didn't know until we got to the restaurant that it is bring your own alcohol. Not sure if they plan to apply for a liquor license in the future. read more

If you are in a hurry you may need to walk to the register to check out before getting your bill. The food quality and flavors are excellent. The shepherds pie was a pleasant surprise.
