Stumbled upon Shanghai Express.. I was expecting so-so, or blah; I was wrong!! This place has great egg rolls, great hot and sour soup (only $1 each for both too; so the price is good), and the entrees we had were great too (Broccoli with Beef and Pork Fried Rice). Portion sizes were fantastic and enough for everyone. Also had a fried dumpling appetizer; I'll pass on this for next time ($6 and not as tasty as others I have had). Total bill was $32 including tip and taxes to feed four. I recommend trying this restaurant if you like Chinese food. Service was good to better, however the customer level was low when we were there making it easy to provide great service. Since it's walking distance from work they get a bi-weekly visit. Food is ok it's the meat that is always a step up from most. The sauces are kinda scarce but it gets the job done. Went on 2/27 for a late lunch. Had I gone into the men's room before I ordered instead of after I would have walked out, it was filthy and smelled like one of those gas station bathrooms you stop at when traveling thru a small town. However, I did not so we ordered. The egg drop soup was cold and flavorless, I ate a few spoonfuls and pushed it away. I ordered general tso,fried rice and for an appetizer, the chicken wings. They came out immediately which tells me they were sitting around in the back, not freshly cooked. They were dry and not hot. My entriee was cold, gen tso was dry and tasted like McDonald nuggets. Just horrid. Same for my wife's sesame chicken. Just a waste of $27.00!! As I looked around the place at other tables I saw food all over the floor, do they not think to sweep n clean?? I had the "Trio Delight" w/extra spice added. Although I gave it three stars it was delicious, I MUST admit I was quite hungry and wouldn't think I would be rating it fairly. I love their hot and sour soup, very good, and I usually order the kung pao chicken or orange chicken. It's always a good temperature, and very tasty. The egg rolls are excellent! Service is always fast when I've been there and very friendly. Prices are very fair. The restaurant feels clean, maybe needs some updating. After I wrote my original review I went back and had lunch there. I raised my original 4 stars to a solid 5! This place is 5 stars because they're consistent with great food and the customer service is so good. The waiters are on the ball and very friendly and nice. I've never had a bad experience here. That being said, I'll keep going back to Shanghai. This time I went I got the beef and broccoli. It's perfectly cooked. The beef melts in your mouth with the savory beef sauce and the broccoli is fresh and bright green with just the right amount of crunch without being hard or soft. They're a solid 5 stars! read more

I love how they usually have my food ready in 15 minutes and have never gotten my order wrong. I literally ordered Mama Fu's and had to throw it away it was so terrible. I then called Shanghai and talk about a complete 180! From no flavor to tons of flavor. I got the beef kung pao, egg drop soup and egg roll and it was all amazing. The veggies were fresh, the rice was perfect and the egg roll was just the way I like it - lots of flavor and super crispy! I have since been back to Shanghai an I have to say they have improved. This time I went into the restaurant and did not have delivery (don't know if it makes a difference). I ordered my usual. I've been a customer of many years (since the time blockbuster used to be in the shopping center). The lunch specials were always reasonably priced and my husband would take me there for lunch. Something has changed of late. The wonton soup tastes like water and the egg rolls used to be more spring roll like with delicate wrappers and fresh vegetables. Now they tasted like something out of a school cafeteria. Cashiers have turned rude. They made an error and then got mad at me for the mistake. I was shocked since I have always tipped well after spending 20 years in the restaurant business. My family used to come once if not twice a week for the last 5 years. We haven't been back in 2 months. We love the food but the employees act as if they run the place and are not customer service driven. The place feels more like a hangout for employees and not a business. Very sad. read more

This is my favorite restaurant. Consistantly great food. Excellent, quality sauces, quality meat. I have been eating here for years and service has always been good. We mostly get takeout. I love the shredded pork with garlic sauce and my husband likes the sesame chicken. Egg rolls are great. The owner is nice and oversees everything really well and is always working when we come in. I can't say enough good things about the food because I have the hardest time finding great Asian food that I like. The sauces and meat quality at most places are poor. The prices are great (especially for their lunch specials) and the food always comes out nice and hot. The portions are pretty average for a Chinese restaurant. On Sunday mornings they have a buffet me and my family attend once a month it's a wonderful thing to look forward to.
