We went because we are staying in the Bayshore Inn, which qualified us for a 10% discount on our entrees. The greeter was extremely friendly and the ambiance was nice. The rest was downhill. Our server was awful. She took our order and never once came back to check on us. Didn't refill our iced teas once or make sure that our food came out okay. If she had, I could have told her that I am allergic to sesame seeds, so was unable to eat the bun on my extremely salty pulled pork sandwich. If you go, don't even bother ordering. Save the $16 and just pour salt directly from the shaker into your mouth. My daughter's expensive salad was absolutely floating in dressing and my husband's burger was well done, instead of what he ordered -- medium rare. But, of course, he had no choice but to eat it since our waitress was nowhere in sight. When we finally found our server and asked her to bring the check, she charged my card without giving us the discount. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she looked like I was speaking an unfamiliar language and said, "Oh, yeah. I forgot. All I could do is void it and charge your card again if you want that." I told her to forget it and deducted the amount I would have saved from her tip. My tip for you is to skip this joint. read more

It's hard to mess up pulled pork, but Shamus made the worst I've ever had. It was legitimately terrible. I also get the impression that staff are not treated well. Don't go here, there are much better restaurants in Eureka. read more

I was REALLY excited when my brother took me to Shamus for my birthday, even though we waited three days before we could get in we figured it would be worth the wait. NOT the case AT ALL! We were both beyond disappointed when we were served dry reheated pork ribs, BURNED yet cold corn, a twice baked potato that's texture was that of glue and over cooked prime rib when I ordered medium! It was so inedible it should have been embarrassing to serve. Our waiter was actually very receptive to our reluctant truthful answer when asked how everything was. He listened and didn't make excuses yet didn't trash his place of employment at the same time. He immediately brought me a medium done portion of prime rib. I will say if it weren't for his professionalism I would never listen when he said to come back another time and give them a try as they are working out a lot of kinks being newly opened. I may go try a burger there but if its less than up to par I will not go back and would let you know before you go its a waste of your money. Oh one more thing if you have young children or a baby dont bring them because every hour or so they have a lightning show that is so loud it hurts your ears! What a shame Shamus. You were so good in Carlotta, but now you are too big, commercialized, and way overpriced. Everything is overly smoked, hush puppies were raw, seafood chowder tasted like liquid smoke and the service was very strange. Unfortunately I will never go back. I gave one star for atmosphere. I've been to Shamus T bones about 7 times as my good friends live basically across the street. A few visits ago I got the ribs and got sick afterwards but didnt attribute it to the ribs at T-bones. On Friday I was there with a friend and we ordered some chicken wings and split them. Towards the end he noticed a mushy one that was clearly bad or undercooked. I proceeded to get some of the worst food poisoning of my life the next day but wasnt sure what to attribute it to. I will spare you the details but i was drinking water to be able to stop a dry heave after my 10th throw up and it went on like that....utter hell. I just spoke with my friend and he had the same food poisoning the next day. It was no doubt Shamus T bones that made us sick as it was the only meal we shared. I called and spoke with a owner and she said sorry but offered no other compensation or recourse. This place has made me sick twice now and has been confirmed by someone else who is a iron gut. Shamus T bones has some serious health contamination issues. The food isnt that good to start with.... cisco freeze imported crap but given that they also make you sick with their garbage this place will get alot of bad word of mouth from me. read more

NEVER AGAIN will I step foot into this place!!!! I had two Tequila Sunrises, no upper shelf requested, served in a short High Ball glass, so why was each drink over $10 each? I was shocked as this is considered just a well drink. The fries and ribs were cold and the prime rib (which was severely OVER PRICED) had absolutely NO FLAVOR!! The crust on the outer edges had a little but all in all the meat was so disappointing. Also, when I am paying an exuberant price for my meal, why must I be subjected to the surround televisions? There is no reason to have TV's in every room to be seen at every angle!!!! There are those people who go out to dinner and want a relaxing evening. I (and the party of 8) with me couldn't even hear ourselves think. My husband ordered the roast chicken half, which normally is fine at any other restaurant, but if eating at Shamus T Bones what you end up with appears to be a half roasted canary. So the long and short of it was, we had half of a canary without any drink, just ice water, my cold flavorless prime rib with cold fries and two short Tequila Sunrises total bill without adding in the tip came to $83.00!!!!!!! My bf & I came here when it first opened so my review is reflecting that experience. Perhaps they've improved their food & service since then, hopefully they have bc when we ate here we did NOT have a good experience. First of all the evening we came in the place was empty, we were the only people there until a group of roudy kids came in & were seated right next to us, not 4' away. The kids were pretty obnoxious & me & my bf couldn't figure out why the hostess would seat them so close to us when they had plenty of other tables open where they could have been as roudy as they pleased & wouldn't have bothered us. So already our experience here wasn't very good & we haven't even tried the food. Sadly the food was as bad as the atmosphere. The steak I ordered was nothing more than mediocre, but priced as though it was some kind of delicacy. My bf had their brisket which he said was barely edible, tough & hard to chew. I like this place. I like the unique atmosphere. I'm not one for dead animals on the walls, but overall between the bar decor, the view, even the weird gadgets, it's an asset to Eureka. However, I'm giving this rating because the food needs work. The food is mediocre and 20 - 25% overpriced. Come on people, $9 for a small bowl of clam chowder!!! I like the spinach salad and the oyster bar. The Mac n cheese is killer, but I bet they don't make it themselves. At one visit, I had a really good steak, cooked perfect, but it's hit and miss and lately it seems more a miss. It seems the owners are trying for an upscale roadhouse, but until you get your meals cooked properly, drop your prices. We will still stop by for happy hour because the bar menu is 1/2 price then and I do like the place! I would like to try dinner again, but I just don't want to be disappointed once more. Instead of wasting the hour of your time to write a bad review & diss on the best restaurant on the north coast, why don't you shut up with your negativity, get your lazy ass off the computer, & cook your own damn meal. My family & I went to the old location a couple of times and were treated with good hospitality & service. Nothing has changed since then everything on the menu is absolutely delicious! Not to mention cooked daily. You're crazy if you honestly think any up standing restaurant would get away with serving old food. I am over this place. The service is consistently mediocre, slow slow slow, and it wasn't that busy. There were people there, but empty tables scattered about. We got shoved in a dark corner when there was plenty of seating in the open area of the restaurant with the sunset views, even though we had made a reservation and arrived on time. Everything took forever, just like last time and the food was okay. The salad bar was disappointing, especially this time of year when fresh is so available. It was a small salad bar, yet there were four different pasta salads and two bean salads - none labeled and one was really spicy - I'd rather have lots of fresh veggie choices. If I wanted pasta salad I'd order one. The rest of the food was okay. I was bummed at the size and quality of the cheesy mashed potatoes and I feel like I could taste liquid smoke in my chicken. It was cooked well but the flavor was meh. Everyone else got burgers and seemed to enjoy them. At the end of them meal when the bill came it didn't seem to add up to the poor service, okay food, and unpleasant seating we were given. I'm not going back. read more

YUM! I've been a big fan of Shamus T Bones since they first opened their Carlotta location a few years ago, and I still love them, and love the new Eureka location! The food is amazing, some of the best BBQ I've ever had. The owners are inviting, friendly and know their BBQ. The staff adds to the friendly, fun environment, and everyone takes time to make sure the experience is great! I would tell anyone within a twenty mile radius to check this place out. Visited here over the weekend as we were passing through. Firstly the place looks nice and is well decorated (if you like taxidermy). Upon first impressions which is how i take places, the menu looked a bit pricey but looking around other places locally this was the only option for BBQ. We were greeted by a barman who i will say in a polite way was a little warm (he was sweating). He made a rude remark to my wife but he thought it was joke. We decided to sit at the bar and order a drink and probably food. The barmen tried to redeem himself from the comment he earlier made and we thought "OK" we'll give him a second chance. I ordered the chicken and Mac and cheese. The chicken was ok (6/10) a little dry and the Mac n cheese was dry also. Both the main meals were served in less than 5 minutes?? The salad my wife ordered was as she said "very acidic". Overall the food i would give 6/10 versus the price. We paid our check and as we left the barmen once again apologized and we stood up to leave, he then made a comment under his voice directed at us. Rude and very annoying, maybe if he concentrated on his manners then this would of been a more enjoyable experience. Would not recommend this place purely to that guys attitude! read more

My boyfriend & I went here for his birthday Saturday nite & the whole experience was disapointing. First of all we walk in & there is no one to great us. So we walk half way through the restaurant when someone sees us & directs us to a table ( she wouldn't sit us @ a booth since there was only 2 of us) . The waitress then brings us a cold muffin that I think was meant to be corn bread but tasted nothing like any corn bread I've had. Ten minutes after being seated the waittress sits a group of teenagers not a foot away from us, even though we were the only 2 partys in the whole place ( & the place is huge ) . We order our food ( I got a rib eye & my man got roast thingy) . My steak was mediocre. Although the mash potatoes & grilled corn it came with were really good. My boy friend's plate came with chili that he said was no where as good as the chili I make & something else that was so boring I can't remember what it even was. Came at the recommendation of my daughter. Although hers wasn't first-hand experience. She said all the people she'd talked to raved about the food. So, I took my wife there for her birthday. The staff was super friendly, very attentive and efficient. The Tesla Coil was interesting. Ambiance is very nice with a really nice view of the bay. Nice shooting fountain in the bar area, going across the aisle. . Some people seem to complain about the taxidermy on the walls. For those who don't like the decor, I say 'Meh'! The food was, for the most part, very good. Cooked exactly as we wanted. My wife and I both agreed we'll return. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because of the prime rib. While it was very good, it did not come with Au Jus. This is the only place I've ever been in that didn't serve the juice for dipping with it's prime rib. As a result, the middle of the prime rib got just a tad dry. Tasty, but dry. Give the juice, guys. The drink I got (bourban sour diesel) was pretty good. A little pricey, but tasty. The prices for the food was about what I expected. The pricing is upper end, but NOT outrageous. I've definitely been in pricier places that did not have food as good as this. (I won't say where, but it was in Santa Rosa, and the place had a local celebrity chef - very bad food there) So, thank you, Heather and Nathan, we'll be back. read more

having heard by word of mouth and from the reviews that the food was excellent, we dined, with reservations, at 7 PM on a Monday night. The party included five middle-aged people. It was a pleasant, lively, clean place. The highlights included the cornmeal dinner muffins, the beef chili side order, and the pulled pork. However, the pork ribs, chicken, and twice stuffed potato were dry and the latter was cold. The eye of the round steak was a very ordinary piece of meat and did not compare with what was served at the Blue Lake Casino. We were doubly puzzled, because a party if we had met as we entered were more than pleased with their experience and the quality of the food. A family of my secretary had also described a similar experience within the past two weeks. Went for the very 1st time on 5/16/12. We ordered the 1/2 rack of pork and beef ribs. They were very dry and not so tender. We commented it to our waitress and she said, "Yeah, customers have been saying that all day about the ribs, you would think after 10-12 hours of cooking they would be moist and tender". HELLO? An absolute must for lunch. Stopped by on a whim craving barbeque but when our wonderful waiter,Grant,described the fish specials, our taste buds turned to that direction. The salmon and halibut dishes was broiled perfectly served with a flavorful rice side and mango salsa put it over the top. This is now one of my "must stop when I am in Humboldt" places to eat. Went on Valentine's Day evening (2013). I gave Shamus' 3 stars because I feel I should critique the whole experience, not just the taste of the food. If I was giving a review on the taste of the food, I would give it 5 stars. Now, moving on. I called and made reservations a week early(at that time a miracle occurred.... someone actually answered the phone). Then a couple days later, I needed to change my reservation, so I called again(during business hours mind you). I got the message recorder(again and again and again). Tried the next day and got the same thing. Nobody answering the phones. I left a message(they said they would call me back, they didn't). I ended up having to drive there and physically go in and talk to the receptionist(the most confusing conversation I have ever had in life). I asked her if I could change my reservation from 6:30PM to 5:30PM. She said,"You can't make it at 6:30?" I was confused.... I wouldn't have been there asking to change the reservation if the time was going to work. The girl said,"We just had a cancellation, so sure, how about 5:00PM. I said it wouldn't work because my wife doesn't get off work until 5:00PM. She then said,"Ok, how about 5:15PM?" I said,"I guess, but what if I don't get here until 5:20? Will I lose my spot?" Then, at that time, another girl walked in and asked me if I was trying to change my time. I said yes, I was trying to change my reservation from 6:30 to 5:30. The girl said,"Sure, it looks like we had a cancellation at 5:30PM, so I'll put you down for 5:30. Now, I might be a little slow, but that was the time I asked for in the first place? Why was the girl asking me about 5 and 5:15? Ok, moving on. Dinner. The spot we sat was in the back. It was a nice table and they raised the blinds so we(wife, daughter and I) could watch the sunset over the bay(beautiful). The service was really good for the most part and our server was pleasant. The food tasted great, but I ordered pasta w/bay shrimp and crab with Shamus' pink sauce. As I was eating the pasta, I frequently got pieces of what I decided were shrimp shell or maybe the translucent crab shell or something. It was clear and definitely a shell from something in the pasta since it was filled with seafood. It was annoying and I didn't feel like picking things out of my mouth whilst eating, so I took the rest home. The seafood chowder was amazing, and I got a "Dino bone" as an appetizer, and that was also extremely impressive. Huge, tender, and the BBQ sauce it came with was absolutely amazing. So on taste, I give it 5 stars, however Shamus' was not without it's issues for me. Now, I have never been to Shamus' before this experience, so I was also not expecting a huge, loud(extremely loud), disturbing, annoying "Tesla Coil" to go off during my Valentine's Day meal either, but it did. It scared the hell out of me and my four year old daughter. So, after averaging out the taste and quality of the food with the overall Shamus T Bones experience, I had to give it 3 stars. I hope Shamus' decides to fix some of this stuff, because if they do, they will have one hell of a steak house on their hands. read more

This is a restaurant for people looking for something different! Chandler s made with antlers, a laud electrical thing that goes off once every hour for entertainment, and a water canon. The food is good... if you order the right food! My husband and I frequent it so we know. I recommend the porterhouse for the best steak! Stayed next door at the BW and it was within walking distance. Got there just as they opened for dinner. Décor is pretty cool. They have a Tesla pole they said would go off but never did. Had the three rib appetizer which was pretty good. More fat on the rib than I usually like. Tri-Tip dinner was a good sized portion. My only complaint is the cheddar mash is just mashed potato with cheddar melted on the top. read more

Have been to Shamus T Bones several times always enjoyed it especially when they had the band . Food always tastes wonderful and service is wonderful most of the time. But I do have to say that when I went a few days ago I was completely dumbfounded as to why their portions went down and their prices went up??? Is this something they normally do for the winter time or has the whole menu changed? you can now only choose one side dish with your entree. It used to be two I enjoyed getting my salad and potato with my steak or chicken. Electric coil is pretty neat can be startling if you're not warned but they do tend to try to tell everyone first. The parking is not really the best. small parking lot for the amount of people that the restaurant can hold. There is a bar that makes almost any drink and will play sports games on the television for you. Salad bars could be updated a little doesn't have too much to choose from but you can make a basic salad. It is children friendly and has children friendly food. I recommend this place for anyone and if you can get a window seat the view is amazing. Enjoy your meal folks I did except i didn't get my potato :( read more

My family enjoyed ourselves. This was our first time ever going to Shamus, and it was a pleasant experience! I've seen other reviews stating bad service, food not cooked right etc. Now I have to say I think that we may have gone at a good time of day..It was Memorial Day @ 2pm. The restaurant was absolutely empty, I'm sure everyone was at home BBQing their own food. Plus their grand opening of the new location was back in April, so we gave them about a month to work out the kinks of being a new restaurant. I ordered fish and chips, my husband had fish tacos and my son had the kids corndog. All the sides were delicious! We had mac and cheese, pork and beans, coleslaw and mashed potatoes. We're not big red meat fans so we probably won't ever try a steak from there. I love that Eureka has another new/big/exciting restaurant! We will definitely go back. Can't wait to try out the bar one night. read more
