This would be a great place to go on a date or chit chat with coworkers. I ordered the Pan-Seared Scallops. They add an unusual variety of ingredients that all worked wonderfully together, including: Mole verde, corn, favas, pickled chayote, hibiscus gel, red onion + cilantro. The waitress and a guy sitting next to the bar with me highly recommend this dish and the scallops melted in your mouth. I loved the unique flavor combo. The Hamachi appetizer was very refreshing with the cucumber and the banana pudding was just OK. I probably would not get the banana putting again, but apparently it is very popular... Good service. Restaurant was only serving a 4 course menu. I liked the raw oyster. My friend got a substituted amuse bouche of salmon row, salted egg yolk in a cone. Second course was when of the woods fried mushroom with a hummus based sauce. Felt like it needed something crunchy to add to it and a little sweet, maybe candied almonds or candied hazelnut. Third course was the main entree. I chose the king salmon and it was cooked well with the crispy skin. Panna cotta was in a bowl and had walnut crumbles which I thought was intriguing. I really love this place - the food never misses and the service is top notch. We live close by and decided to walk over on a weekday evening because we were craving halibut and they had it on the menu. They were fully booked but were able to fit us into the bar. We ordered several cocktails and all were fantastic, but I asked the bartender to make me a drink off menu with a few ingredients I liked - she hit the nail right in the head! The halibut was to die for, we both considered it the best halibut we have had in Seattle. We came back a few weeks later on a Thursday night while entertaining some friends from out of town - we wanted them to try the halibut. Once again they were fully booked but the hostess worked with the bar manager to open a closed section of the restaurant and seat us anyways. I'm not sure I've ever experienced friendlier service in the city. Unfortunately the halibut was replaced with salmon on the menu but we ordered the prawns, melon crudo, oysters, hushpuppies and the steak. The steak with bone marrow was out of this world!! Our visitors do not drink alcohol and tried some of their zero proof cocktails and loved them. Best part - we left our wallet behind and I called shortly after we left. The biscuit is buttery and the chicken is well fried. It is a heavy dish so I'd say the name suits it. It was easy to get a reservation at this place for 10am on Saturday morning. Although the food ranged from expected quality to really good, our server Emma was the star of our visit. Detailed oriented, attentive (but not a helicopter), kind and knowledgeable, she made the visit special - but isn't that what quality people do? We started with the tiger prawns. They were well cooked, firm but still moist however the dredge was the star, sweet with just a hint of heat. Both of us chose the filet as entree. It was an excellent cut, and generally well cooked although both of us remarked that we would have enjoyed just about a minute less over the flame. Pace yourself with the cocktails because there are many, they are delicious and you'll want to try them all! Seattle seafood, especially in the downtown area, can be tough as most places over promise and under deliver, but that was not the case here. I would give this a 5/5 on service and the food I ordered but the scallops were so bad I had to take it down one peg. If you read nothing else here know that the steel head was some of the best prepared fish I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection, moist with an amazing crispy skin. The seasoning and flavors were wonderful and I would go back again just for this. The night started off with a pair of cocktails and wine. Both myself and my husband tend to lean towards reds and so we were having trouble finding a white wine to settle on. Our server was kind enough to make some recommendations and then bring samples to help us make the right choice. I was glad she did as it helped us pick the one that fit our preferred flavor profile. Back to the food. The soup and surf and turf were both great. The soup was poured table side which felt a bit unnecessary but if that's your thing then then you'll like that. The big miss of the night was the scallops. They were cooked well but the side inclusions were baffling. The kumquats were downright awful and threw off the flavor profile of the whole dish to the point that I don't understand why they were there at all and the beets (keep in mind I love beets) just were not a good texture to go with the gentle nature of the scallop. If you are looking for a place to showcase good seafood in a great setting to out of town folks this place is a must try on the list. read more

We came for dinner before a show across the street at the Moore Theatre. If you sit along the windows, you can keep an eye on the line to enter the theatre, which is super helpful. Service was attentive and very helpful with wine selection, which is really extensive - having some knowledgeable input was much appreciated. My picture of our oysters sucks because they were so good that we ate half of them before I remembered to take the photo, haha. We also got the charred octopus, surf and turf tartare, cacio e pepe risotto with prawns, and grilled asparagus. We enjoyed what we ordered, but could've done without the prawn add-on to the risotto. It's a $10 upgrade to a $24 dish, and did not add any flavor. The sauce that comes with the charred octopus was great, though - I think we put it on everything. Our desserts took a lot longer to come out than expected and if we'd known we prob wouldn't have ordered them since we had a show to catch, but they were tasty. Espresso was not very good, sadly. Came here for a bday dinner and it was fabulous. The sashimi appetizer had just the right amount of spice. The servers steered us toward the steak, salmon, and scallops. All were amazing. The scallops dish is unusual because it comes with pureed flavors- some spicy, some sweet. It also comes with a fantastic mushroom. It's quite unique. I can imagine some of the bad reviews came from folks who wanted standard scallops. If you like big flavors, this was the best thing on the table followed by the salmon - with its crispy skin. Anywho, our server was very nice and recommended the oysters. We got oysters, they were very good. We ordered the fried shrimp appetizer. It came with an artichoke dip, that was good. For the main dish my partner ordered duck, it lacked flavor. I ordered the seafood pozole that had clams, all I tasted were beans in clam water that was lacking flavor. The soup was also lukewarm. The best thing about the Kimpton Palladian Hotel is this restaurant. I'm glad we ate at Shaker + Spear, not just once but 4 times for breakfast and dinner. Don't worry, we've been to Seattle a bunch of times and we've experienced a range of diverse menus in the area but we can still confidently say that Shaker + Spear is a treasure. While their menu may have a few selections, every bite is a treat for the senses. The breakfast menu didn't have a typically kid friendly options but we made it work by dissecting their yogurt and fruit bowl. The staff was particularly patient, helpful, and friendly. For dinner, the restaurant was full so we were seated at the chef's table and now thats my favorite dinner seat in the house, dinner and a show. The chef's are awesome! The seasoning on the cauliflower was perfect and could have definitely passed for a steak. Truffle fries were spot on, everything that you could ask for. The mushroom pate was interesting, it was a lot chunkier than I thought it would be but wasn't bad. It could have used just a tad bit more seasoning imo but I would still order it again. The salmon was perfection, I could have eaten two of them. The octopus was also perfection! So tender and juicy, and the puree paired so well with it. I wish there was a little more of the ink sauce but that's my only complaint. The salmon carpaccio was light and refreshing. I ordered the King Cole duck breast. The duck was cooked quite nicely. However, I was not a big fan of the gochujuang eggplant purée; to me too intense and didn't feel it goes well with the duck. The lotus chip, super simple and provided the crunchy texture! Seasoned nicely and fried perfectly golden brown (big fan of that single lotus chip) lol Chèvre cheesecake was so yummy! That hazel graham cracker crust was so lovely! I really enjoyed the combo of the strong flavors of the chèvre with that hazelnut!
