For my drink, I tried the Shahi Lassi, which was blended thick yogurt, fragrantly flavored with saffron, topped with almonds and pistachios. It was like a milky pistachio smoothie, and tasted absolutely delicious! I think I liked it better than Mango Lassi, which has always been my favorite Indian drink. Small hole in wall open late with delicious small bites or full entrees. I only tried the vegetable samosa but it was nicely spiced still crispy and had a good ratio of other vegetables besides potato as a filling. It was only 1.50 for this. I ordered a Medium Steak but got Well-done instead. Its a shame Desi people don't understand how meat can be cooked w/o being well-done. The steak was pretty tough, I almost choked a few times. Wanted some fresh Middle Eastern food, not all the microwave and overpriced crap that's in the area. The counter guy was nice and understood English. I love this restaurant. Come for the amazing garlic naan, stay for everything else! I have had the mixed Shahi gyro, lamb chops, and (my favorite) the chicken Tikka kabob meal. The staff is friendly and personable (they know me by name at this point), and the food is always delicious. Most of the dishes I've had are on the mild side (as in not spicy), but full of flavor, and I'm sure they'll add heat if you want it. Their chai tea is also delicious. When you are in Jackson Heights you can find plenty of "desi" food but only thing that you can't find is Halal Steak. Today while walking on the streets of this area, I saw a new sign of Shahi Darbar. As a person who is always open to try new food and love to appreciate new business, I decided to go in. I must say that as soon I entered I felt very welcome and gentleman at the counter was extremely pleasant which is rare sight in this area. First thing that caught my eyes was fresh steaks lined up. I ordered two right away. My second surprise was when the chef asked me how would I like my steaks? I knew that these guys know what they're doing. I also ordered lamb chops and while waiting I decided to try a chicken samosa that the best that I ever had in Jackson Height. Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic I had to take my food home. The gentleman offered me a chicken patties for free as well which was extremely nice. After having the food at home I must say that entire food was extremely delicious and fresh. The best part was that it didn't have tons of salt and you can literally taste the food, not just spice and salt. Guys please give them a try if you're in the area. This place is a very confusing place for me. I love their food. But mainly I get UberEats here. I did stop by once to pick up food but the place was busy and parking is a nightmare. So let's talk about the food. I ordered the Chili Lime Chicken Kababs, Beef Bihari Kababs, Chicken Tikka Kababs, and the Chicken Shwarma. However you spell it. It's going in and coming out the usual holes. My suggestion is, if you want your kababs a little undercooked don't mention anything. But if you want to have a bit of a burn/charr, make sure you mention "Well Done" when ordering. The flavor is great because the store usually marinates their Kababs. The kabab platters come with rice, salad, and white sauce. The rice imo is not the best quality. To me it feels like the cheap rice you find at a cart that sells halal food. Other than that, with the price point, the restaurant is a hit. As for the shwarma goes, it's pretty good but, I don't recommend getting this on a delivery. It gets really greasy and slimy and the pita ends up all mushy and gooey. Either way, give them a shot, they're a better option than getting food from a cart where hygiene is an issue. read more
