We had a 2 hours layover in NY and some friends took us to Dhaka Garden for lunch. We were a group of 11 people and lucky got tables right away. The staffs were very helpful, friendly and attentive. They handled our group with care even though they were busy. We ended up ordering SO many items (sorry can't remember all of them) and everything was very delicious! Was surprised to see how huge their serving sizes were for biryanis!! We also had their lassies and milk teas...yummy! The restaurant was very clean, which was impressive. My mom and I had iftar here last week & couldn't have been happier with our meal and the amazing service! We initially tried a more "popular" restaurant but unfortunately there was no seating left. We tried to scramble and find another restaurant and found Dhaka Garden. For the iftar special you can select one of their premade boxes with channa, some fried vegetables (eggplant and cauliflower), a date, biryani, some pakoras and a jelabi. You can also select a la crate items from their buffet menu like kebabs, tandoor chicken etc. We ordered some naan, kebabs, haleem, and mango lassi. We loved the kebabs, naan and pakoras. We couldn't finish everything so we ended up taking most of it home. The service here was great throughout from everyone there especially as they were fasting as well. Had mango lassi, plain lassi, sizzling chicken plate, baby goat biryani. Mango lassi is a definite fail. Do not recommend any of it, especially as some one who is not a fan of fried rice. That said, the goat biryani was not bad but bad compared to other places I've been. Heads up, the sizzling chicken jalfrezi is more like sweet and sour chicken. That said, if you want American Chinese food I recommend the chicken jalfrezi which comes with oily fried rice. I can see how others might like this but it's a no from me. read more

Came with a friend, I'd never had Bengali food before now. I ordered the morog polao and was blown away by the flavor. I can't speak for the authenticity, but it really hit the spot. I came here today with a friend. I'm of Bengali descent. So I usually will go to restaurants which had food that isn't spicy enough for me. Boy did this place blow me away. I asked for the food spicy and i sure as hell got it spicy. Staff was very sweet. As soon as the conversation switched over to Bangla, they began to relax. Everyone was accommodating. The best part I will say is the price matched with the portions. Omfg. For $16 I got rice, salad and PLATTER of meat. This makes me happy. Alas I couldn't finish it. But I did take it home. Came here looking for bengali breakfast food. It did not disappoint. The space is open, sunny and clean. The staff (one young lady, really) served with a smile and wanted to make sure we were satisfied. Her smile was infectious. You order at the counter, and she brings you the food. It was all freshly made and yummy. We stuck to a vegetarian diet this time around. So, first out was the shiraga... basically a veggie samosa... the crust was delicious, moist, flaky and not oily. The filling, mostly potatoes, peas, and onion curry, was yummy. We then ordered the 3 veggie breakfast items.. curried potatoes, dal, and mixed veggies. The potatoes were awesome, perfectly cooked and seasoned, thinly sliced red potatoes. The mixed veggies was a good simple veggie curry. I wasn't the biggest fan of the dal, it wasn't seasoned enough for my tastes; my friend loved it. I requested hot sauce, they didn't have any, but she said they had fresh chilies, and brought them out on a bed of salad (a nice touch) We also ordered the partha, naan and roti... they were all good.. nothing to write home about, but good solid bread. The milk tea was very fragrant. We also ordered the dodhi pudding (a yogurt based pudding, supposedly made with a long gourd) it was delicious, a bit sour/ salty... but still sweet. Maybe I'm just being emotional because the syliti guy made my tea hot. We took Morog polaw(chicken yogurt roasted with white rice) the chicken was hell fresh seriously I repeat hell fresh! Rice had the toasted onion properly sprinkled. My female friend was real happy. I had eye problems that's why I was wearing sun glass in restaurant though the guy with glass in cashier behavior was phenomenal. The roasted chicken yogurt gravy was on the point. As someone from Dhaka, I can say this restaurant hits the spot. The food is delicious and authentic. I've tried multiple items from their menu - haji biryani, pulao roast, samosa & shingara, tehari, chicken biryani etc. Finished most of the food before I was able to take a picture . Every single item was perfect and spot on. This is exactly the food I had growing up in Dhaka and the food I order when I'm homesick. New dine in/take out Indian restaurant on 37th Avenue. Took the spot of the Chinese takeout joint. They did a great job with renovations and place so far seems very clean and aesthetically pleasing. I attempted to order the Fish Curry but was disappointed to find that they were out. I went with the Chicken curry which was good but I was hoping for a little more of a portion. So the first time I came here was during Ramadan and they had renovations which might be why I wasn't impressed with the food. The last time I came here my husband and I ordered the shrimp/chicken Thai soup and I swear it was the best thing I've had since our trip to Thailand! The spicy tomato daal base with lemon grass shoots, chunks of shrimp and chicken disappeared in no time despite being family sized. Probably one of my top 5 soups ever! I was in Jackson Heights and craving some good halal food so my brother and I decided to go to Dhaka Garden. Don't let this place fool you with its looks. The workers have horrible service and this place gave me FOOD POISONING. We ordered the chicken fried rice and chicken lollipop and it looked somewhat appetizing but turned out to be horrible. First of all those workers don't speak much English and screwed up my order. They gave me vegetable fried rice instead of chicken fried rice. I was hoping to try something different, so I opted to find the closest Bangladeshi restaurant to East Elmhurst. Dhaka Garden in Jackson Heights was the place. I was very fortunate to find a parking space. Parking in this area is very difficult, don't expect to drop by on your lunch hour by car and get lucky. The restaurant itself is nicely designed and doesn't at all look like a dive. The ambient music is also ok. The waitress was nice enough. She even put my bread in a small bag after we left. She's busy which made the wait time up, but good and well-meaning. My problem is that there seems to be a grand total of ONE item on the menu that could pass as a vegetarian entree. When I asked the waitress about their vegetarian entrees she stares at me blankly and rattled on about chicken, beef, and goat. I felt like I was the first person to ever ask that question in this restaurant. So I got the vegetable curry with some nan bread. The man bread was ok. The vegetable curry was also ok. The latter consisted of a few pieces of cauliflower, potato, and string beans. And the way it felt so hot temperature-wise, and dry, I suspect it was in the microwave. Mine cost $7.00. My father is not a vegetarian, so he samples done of their lunch specials (goat) which cost $12.00. I thought that was significantly too much for food of this scale and quality, especially food which we suspected to be microwaved. I don't think he found it to be worth it. On the way out we saw someone with a big fish platter and my father decided that's what he should have ordered. Overall, service is nice and well meaning, food is overpriced and mediocre, and lacks sufficient vegetarian options. I wont be back. 2.5 stars is generous. read more

So far their Haji biryani, Kachhi biryani, Morgh Polao(delicious!!) and fish curry etc have been a solid hit....this place is legit! This is the WORST place I've ever been too. The food is not the best. The only thing I recommend is the chicken lollipop. The employees are very rude. They messed up. My $300 dress while hurriedly trying to clear our which they didn't do efficiently. While I was looking up to ask them to get me water. They straight up looked me in the the eye for a whole 45 second. With no movement. I don't understand. The defined time I ordered for pick up. They said it will take 20 minutes. We came 30 minutes later. But they mad us wait another 45 minutes. They are very slow. When we ate our food. It was under cooked and contained the skin of the chicken lollipop. Everyone on here recommended the fish curry, which is good but I recommend the kacci biryani - the lamb is tender and has crispy pieces of fried onion to provide contrast. Muglai paratha is a new dish to me - fried paratha filled with egg and mince meat mixture. Almost like a panini in shape. It was very good as well but we just had too much food so couldn't finish it. My only complaints are the fact they haven't gotten their delivery service on point yet! I'm not sure how much seamless or eat24 charge, but I need them to get with it before it gets, so cold that I refuse to walk there. Also their mango lassis are terrible frown emoticon I didn't even realize it was possible to make a bad tasting mango lassi until this place. They are small, tasteless and way over priced. You really do get bang for your buck in this place. The vegetable biryani is one of my favorite things to order from here. This place is actually really good, the downside is that it wasn't as good as it was a couple years ago. The food quality has gone down a bit but most of their dishes stay true to the authentic seasonings. Be WARNED, you really need a local/native (like many ethnic restaurants) order at this place. However, if you are able to get their chicken lollipop, I assure you it's one of the best in town. Very flavorful and well seasoned. If you come during their busy times, they are more or less fresh off the oil. There lamb Biryani and roast chicken are also delicious. The food is fairly good,it looks authentic and a few of the dishes are really spicy. I love their chicken samosas,large and spicy and a steal at 1.50$. Had some of the goat curry and I think a lamb dish. Fairly tasty. The only disappointing thing is the service in general. They can be slow and a bit of what I call third world mentality in terms of customer service. I say that,coming from the third world,where the customer isnt right and it seems getting a smile or politeness is like going to the dentist. I have been to Dhaka Garden now a few times, sampling a several items on their narrow menu. Highlights: chicken biryani was mild and fragrant; goat curry was rich and oily complete with tender chunks of goat-on-the-bone meat; the vegetable curry side dish, rotis and samosas were solid but standard for the neighborhood. Dhaka Garden is probably one of the most user-friendly venues to sample Bangladeshi food in Jackson Heights. Extra points for staying open past 10pm too! read more

Long time Yelp reader, first time Yelp writer. My experiences at eateries customarily do not inspire me to write anything about a restaurant unless it was either really superb or really subpar. Unfortunately for Dhaka Garden, it is the latter. I have driven by this heavily Bangladeshi neighborhood on numerous occasions always making a mental note to come back to actually stop, park and eat at one of the many options available. After walking a few blocks to make a carefully placed choice and passing on many viable options, we decided on Dhaka Garden. What a disappointment. More than the food, which was nothing to speak of either, the service was horrendous. Or shall I say more specifically, horrendous as a result of one particular waitress. Fairly immediately upon being self-seated, the waitress comes to take our order to which I replied, "I'll have a ginger ale to start while I look over the menu for food" to which prompts a response in a angered tone "THAT'S ALL YOU'RE GOING TO ORDER?@!?". Even assuming she did not hear me say that I have not had a chance to look over the menu yet, this is not the way to speak to a customer. Customer Service 101 hello? I could write for days but to make a long story short..service never got better. In fact, it continued to be what can only be expressed as rude. From what appeared to be aggressively tossing the food serving plates on our table upon arrival to failing to ask if I was done with my meal and instead attempting to grab my plate to clear the table when there was still food on it. There are a plethora of Bangladeshi food options available in short walking distance from Dhaka Garden, that although from the outside may look a bit questionable, may surprise you with their food and most of all, SERVICE! Went in on a Thursday night for take-out. Most of the stuff they have on the menu are not available. The lady who took my order does not have a clue of what she is doing. Asked for Chickpeas and she had no idea what that is... And chicken tikka masala was not available too. So I have ordered one curry with chicken, one goat curry, a side of spinach, and 2 milk teas. OK so here comes the great part. She told me it will take 15 minutes, seems long but I'm fine with it as long as the food is fresh. After 20 minutes of waiting, she finally came to me with a big bag and said, "your foods are ready, sir." So naturally I asked, "everything is there?", she replied, "yes!". So of course I trust her, because it is such a simple task. So after driving 30 minutes and finally got home, and surprise! The 2 teas with milk are not there, so I picked up the phone and called them right away. Explained to the guy what have happened, and he said I could come back with the receipt and they will give me the teas. I explained to them I'm 30 minutes away, so he said then next time I will give you free teas when you come again! Really? So I persist and asked nicely if they can simply give me a partial refund for the 2 teas since I have paid with my credit card. The guy said, "oh I have no idea how to do that." I asked to speak with the owner or manager so they can help me out. Then he asked for my receipt number and credit card number and said,"no problem sir, I will ask them how to handle this and call you back today or tomorrow." (they open till midnight btw) I work in retail business and I'm familiar with a credit card machine, it's not rocket science. But since I did not have a choice, I agreed to wait for a solution. Now I open the bag, and surprise again! My order of side spinach is not there either! So now I'm a little upset and called them again. The lady who took my order picked up the phone, and while I was trying to explain to her what is going on, she gave the phone back to the guy I was speaking to again. And this time the answer I got was, "Sir the spinach is not available today, so there is no way we charged you for this!" I told him to please look at the kitchen receipt! When I paid for my food I saw 2 receipts came out from their POS system, one of the receipt was for the kitchen and one is for the credit card transaction. Now the guy just simply said, "There is nothing I can do for you." So why took down my credit card info and promised to call me back with a solution? People steer clear and don't let the ambiance fools you! read more
