    Gulab Jamun

This is my second time visiting Saffron. Keep thinking about taste over the week. I tried baby eggplant masala as main dish and Gulab as desert. So delicious! The baby eggplant paste is melting in mouth. Perfect balance of spicy, sesame flavor, creamy, texture and pumpkin! The Gulab tasted perfect too. Warm and sweat. It made my day! Service is perfect too. Highly recommended!

Hands down the best Indian food in Astoria. I can confidently say that nothing compares to the food here. The butter chicken is delicious and always a favorite, but every time I go, I personally always order the Chicken Tikka Masala. I never get tired of it! They also have the Naan with nuts, fruits, and coconut and my god do I dream about it. Its a very casual family owned restaurant and always has a welcoming environment. Take out exactly what you would get if you were in person, which I feel that many places down size on their take out portions. I also always get the Mango Lassi which I will admit, sometimes I have two! Anytime any of my friends want to get indian food, I always order/ go here.

3.5 stars. Their portion is big. I ordered papadum and the sauce is really nice. chicken biryani is made of chicken breast. Lots of spices inside, smells great. A bit too spicy. Overall a good experience

I ordered take out and I loved the food. It was delicious and the portions were great. I ordered the popular stuff Chicken Tikka & Butter Chicken. Also decided to try the goat biriyani. Happy with all 3 dishes flavor was so good, not overly spicy. Def will order again and try more from here.

Really good food. The samosa was hearty, soft and full of potatoes with a nice amount of spice. The pakoras were tasty but oily. The fried cauliflower wasn't my favorite. The wings were really nice, spicy but a nice kick. The tandoori chicken was really good. I order takeout from Saffron but it's enjoyable eating here too. Mera's Tip: spice it up

Gratuiaty hidden in the middle of the check

Food and service were pretty good, the bill came out with gratuiaty mixed in the MIDDLE of the bill. I usually don't check the bill only saw there's no tip or service charge at the bottom. Ended up double tipping that ruined the whole dining experience. PLEASE WATCH OUT!

Stopped by for a Friday evening dinner and the place was completely dead to the point I questioned if we should have dinner there at all. To be a Friday night and not have not 1 customer was a bit questionable to me. I was immediately seated (given the obvious). The waiter brought over some water. They have an everyday special of about $17 with an appetizer and entree. We had 2 diff appetizers and each didn't seem fresh. It gave off a pre-packaged frozen type of feel. As for the entree, the meal came out hot and large portions, however in the end we felt our meal lacked more flavor compared to other Indian cuisine we've had before elsewhere. The waiter was mediocre and whispered half the time. Overall, was a mediocre experience. Thankfully the prices was super affordable and I was able to use the Yelp check-in discount on it. Pro tip- they don't offer any alcohol probably some beers. We had no interest in drinking there anyway.

I stumbled across this Indian place on Seamless the other day as I was looking for some Takeout that'll cover 2 meals for me. I saw other commenters mentioning the Prix Fixe deal for $18 that included samosas, naan, rice, and your main course. Seamless had $5 off my first order so I couldn't say no. First thing I realized is damn, this is a TON of food. Especially for only one person. First, there were two samosas. Big ones at it too. Very very good. Tons of chutney and raita too that I couldn't even finish it. I had to chug down the samosas since I knew I couldn't save it for the next day. The samosas were so filling I could barely get to my main course: Malai Kofta. The naan itself was huge. I ordered a regular naan, but got a garlic naan (thanks?). That was fine, it was just a bit too hard by the time the food was delivered to me. Meaning that it was very hard to break up into pieces. It was a bit of a bummer to me. The malai kofta was very tasty. There was plenty and plenty of rice to feed me for at least my next leftover. Just a ton of food. Not sure if I'll get the prix fixe next time, but if splitting between 2 people, it's a damn good deal.

This spot was delicious! Super inviting and kind and as soon as you stepped through the door the smells are everywhere. The service was very welcoming and they were super quick. The food was mouth watering.

Chose Sumatera because I just wanted a nice hole-in-the-wall homely feel. Small but personalized experience and prompt service. For the food, lots of traditional dishes on the appetizers and main course section. I ordered the Batagor drenched in peanut sauce to warm up with flavor flooding. This is a popular Indonesian street food consisting of fried fish dumplings and tofu under a splash of peanut sauce, sweet soy sauce and lime juice. Something new and this dish hits well to start the visit. Main course, chose the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng, a classic you can't beat. Since the food here is the closest authentic Indonesian spot in NYC, I had to try it here. Not one part of the dish was off. The coconut rice, spicy sambal, spiced deep fried chicken, crispy anchovies, peanuts and the fried egg complimented each other. This was a shared dish as my mom and I are tiny eaters but we cleaned the plate on this one. Secret operation was to introduce another restaurant to my mom and she was very pleased with this pick of mine. She grew up eating many forms of Southeast Asian cuisines from her childhood. It was a successful mission when you see your parent requesting to order the restaurant's sauce and extra takeout.

Get the mixed meat one and you will not be disappointed. Pros: seated quickly, ambiance was lovely, appetizers came out quickly, the Lasuni Gobi was delicious. CONS: My husband and I waited 40+ minutes for our main dishes (dal + rice and the Paneer Tikka dish) to arrive....... And we watched the people who were seated AFTER us receive their MEAT dishes before we got our ours and we most definitely ordered first. We asked our server MORE THAN ONCE what was taking so long and we got the same answer each time "I've told the kitchen to hurry, it'll be out soon" To make matters worse, the person who brought us our dishes (maybe the chef? Maybe the manager?) brought them without the naan that we ordered. When I asked, "where's our naan?" He had the audacity to rudely say "it'll be out in a few minutes", as if we hadn't already been waiting 40+ minutes for vegetarian food that I could've whipped up myself in 20 minutes. His attitude towards us was so unacceptable considering the circumstances. We have absolutely no idea what happened or why it took so long for our simple dishes to arrive. It's especially perplexing considering that the people who came in AFTER us got their meat dishes first. The server apologized and decided to bring us some kulfi (ice cream) to try to make up for it, but we try to avoid eating sugar so that was useless. I felt bad for the server because it wasn't his fault that our food took a ridiculous amount of time to make it to our table, and it's not cool that a manager never stepped in to try to reconcile. As someone who waited tables for 8+ years, I was shocked at the lack of support this server received from his management team. The dal and paneer tikka dishes were average tasting at best (and overpriced), making another trip here completely unfathomable, most especially considering how we were treated. Note to management: do better. Support your staff and step in to reconcile with unhappy guests if this happens again.

The chicken and lamb meats are well seasoned and not dry at all. The platters are huge which justifies the higher price point and food is much more fresh and delicious compared to most carts in Queens. Recently, I tried the fried fish rice platter and it was delicious - fish was nicely fried and crispy, and doesn't seem greasy. I would order this again when I need a break from my combo.
