I have lived so close to Red Panda for over six years and finally made it there for dinner. Not sure what took me so long, but I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. The restaurant is unassuming, both outside and inside, but the food is so tasty and the service is fantastic. We shared the pork fry, mixed chow mein, fried beef momos, chicken jhol momos, and local chicken thali. Everything was so tasty and delicious. They also give you refills on the thali, which is incredible given the fact that the portions here are generous to begin with. Highly recommend! read more

2nd nepalese place ive tried and gotta say I liked the first place better. definitely still worth trying but the portion of chicken thali wasn't that big though I think you can get unlimited refills of rice and not sure what else. the jhol momos we got which were chicken filling were also a bit tougher to chew than expected but sauce was interesting. service was good and and the smart tv in the back playing nepalese music videos with 2 min youtube ads was definitely a vibe. read more

Finally got the chance to do so a few months ago and I was really glad I did because this place was great! I got a vegetarian thali set, and my friend got one of their meaty thali sets. We also shared an order of their fried momos, and I also got a mango lassi. Both the momos and the thali sets were amazing, and the workers go around and will refill your rice, veg, and daal if you wish. Texture , spices level, and appearance wise was on point. Another dish we had was Rilthuk, this was very authentic just the way my favorite aunt cooks. Rilthuk- This is one of the traditional food of sherpa. People normally eat during the winter season because it's based on a thick soup . I came to eat here due to my aunts recommendation and it was very delicious. The Servers however rush you to order but after that they don't even bother to check on you or refill water. Red Panda is run by some of the guys who used to run Tawa Food in Jackson Heights. Back in those days, Tawa was my favorite place to eat in Queens. Now that the management has moved here, Red Panda has become my favorite place to eat in Queens. Thali and momo feature prominently on the menu, and both are out of this world. Every night the thali includes a slightly different variety of dishes and achar (pickles), so I definitely recommend returning to sample the full spectrum of flavors. We usually order the veggie thali, but we also enjoy the chicken thali from time to time (usually, momo is enough meat for us, but YMMV). The nice thing about the meaty thalis is that they also come with a separate bowl of spicy broth, which goes deliciously well over the rice. If you're feeling adventurous, try the bhutan thali, which comes with an assortment of meat stuff that I can't quite put my finger on, but tastes great regardless. The momo is incredible as well: moist and tender, and redolent of warm spices. We recommend the chicken momo first and foremost, but the vegetable momo is pretty dang good as well. They're served with three different chutneys, and you must try them all. For yet another variety of chutney, order jhol momo, which is basically momo served in a pool of delicious sauce. They're open late, and for a reason - it's not unusual that I walk in at 10pm and find half the tables taken. I love that one of my favorite restaurants is one that is open till midnight. Service is friendly, though english is understood only sparsely. In short, if you're interested in Himalayan food, this might be one of the best, if not the best, place in the city to enjoy it. We visit on a very regular weekly cadence, so maybe we'll see each other there? A note for those who are accustomed to having a drink with dinner: I don't drink, but they don't have alcohol on the menu. I think this use to be a Bhutanese/Tibetan restaurant. Anyways this is a huge space with 7-8 huge tables. The people were warm and welcoming. Now this is Nepali Resturant, very clean and amazing food ranging from dumplings-thali. My sister loves their food and also I have heard few of my friends say that they are great. I came here today for dinner with a group. Had a light snack n started with the dinner. I really like their snacks/ appetizers. Being a vegetarian, my option was limited. The snacks I really like were the waiwai sadaeko, the aloo, badmas. The selroti were heated on the microwave n was not that good. U should try their Tibetan butter tea or the lemon tea with extra limes. For dinner we had a selection of thalis, dhedo n roti. I had the veg thali with roti. The rating for the veg thali would be 2/5. I noticed that all the items in the veg thali except for the roti were similar to the other thalis. I just had veg 'jhol momo' late in the evening so this might not be enough to review it. The momo was good. But I am used to having soup as cold but momos within as warm which was not. Maybe because the restaurant was so busy the food came late or they just make it like that. But I prefer my momos warm. read more

This review is long overdue and I owe it to the owners to tell you why you should come here over all other Nepalese restaurants in Jackson Heights/Woodside. They have the best chicken momo even compared to Tawa and Lali Guras, they have better service and seating, and still better food overall (thali, choila, sel roti are my favorites other than the momo). When I give 5 stars sometimes I know I'm being a little over eager but in this case I can't imagine a universe in which I would give them anything less. I love Nepalese food more than any cuisine - at times it is what makes Queens the best place to live - and Red Panda is definitely my favorite. The people who run Red Panda used to work at Tawa for a period of time in 2017 and possibly earlier (it's hard to remember). I had no idea where they went when they left Tawa and although I still was going to Tawa regularly I missed some of the recipes that were unique - especially the chicken momo. I actually went to Red Panda by accident thinking I was going to the restaurant that was previously here - Bhutanese Ema Datsi. I went in expecting Bhutanese food and then I recognized the face of one of the people who used to work at Tawa and it became clear they had moved HERE. Then I saw the menu and Red Panda became the name of my long lost favorite restaurant. Just to give you an idea of why the people here are so great - one time at Tawa (when they used to work there) the server gave my girlfriend and I each a chicken drumstick (which you can only order on the catering menu) on the house. It was the BEST fried chicken / drumstick / chicken on a stick / spicy chicken wing I had ever had and the only other place I could find it was (quite absurdly) Bhutanese Ema Datsi (the restaurant here before Red Panda) - which now come to think of it I very much miss and wonder where those people went. Upon reflection I have realized I may need to move to Nepal or Bhutan, learn enough of the languages to communicate, and finally properly understand and appreciate the most incredible food on the planet. No plates were given to us to eat on just the plates the appetizers came in , no extra forks or spoons on the table , took very long for food to come and at first they gave us the wrong order which normally I would not care about but each order took so long. If the food wasn't as good as it is, I would never come back to this place. The servers literally rush you to order. If you aren't ready and ask for a min or two they don't show up for 5-10 mins unless flagged. I had a instance where the food took over 30 mins. I wouldn't have been pissed if it was super busy. But the funny thing is when we got there, there was only one table before us. But afterwards few tables walked in and they got their food waaaaay before us. They don't communicate with you about what's happening. And honestly you are better off just ordering entrees because they don't know what an appetizer means cause when you order apps they come after your entree and if you tell them you want your apps first, it takes them about 30 mins to bring your entree afterwards. I understand the idea of leaving time in between apps and entree but it should not be to a point where I feel hungry all over again. All in all if you wanna go eat here make sure to have a snack before hand cause the wait is gonna be long and cancel the rest of the days plan. But the food is soooo amazing. But what's the point of food being so good if I am super upset the whole time I am waiting for it. ONLY GIVING 5 star for food, service I would give a -100 if possible.
