All week I have been looking forward going to go this place, got off work early on Friday night. When you walk in the place very nice a place where you can sit down relax have a drink and hang out. Girlfriend and I order Thai chili chicken pops, braised pork lettuce boats and fresh chips and guacamole. When the food arrive presentation looked impressive, the first thing I tried was the chicken pops thinking this should have some bang to it, I was disappointed no taste chicken could have cooked a little longer, next I tried pork lettuce boat that too lacked flavor no spicy cabbage no jalapeno or apple came with the dish. Then I tried chips and dip, chips where very good and guacamole. When I go to any restaurant it has to have a WOW factor, don't know what happen here but I am willing to give this place another try. read more

Amazing service! The Moscow mules are perfect and the fried chicken does not disappoint!

The food was decent but the service was lacking... This is my story.... I have driven by this place many times...my partner always wanted to give it a try and finally tonight we decided to. We met a couple friend of ours for late dinner and drinks. The decor was simple but nice and the ambiance, including the music, was pretty cool and lax. The food was all right but nothing special . I would definitely avoid the fish and chips though. The service was okay until the end. At first, it seemed a bit slow but not too bad. When we received our bill, we were overcharged for one too many drinks and when when I brought it up to the waitress' attention (Carmen L), she became defensive about $3.25 on a one hundred dollar tab. She then began s**t talking to a coworker about the situation. And when she brought the corrected bill, she aggressively picked up the old one and crumpled it into a ball right in front of us. Sad but true. The behavior was certainly childish and what could have been a $25.00 tip was definitely reduced by half. It was our first time and most definitely our last. read more

Came here for brunch because every other establishment in the area had a line out the door. We should have just waited somewhere else...sure we walked right in and grabbed a table immediately at Shadowland but the waitress took forever to get our order. I had to remind her to bring my coffee, and then by the time I flagged her down for cream it was cold. Now to the food: once it came I immediately knew it was a mistake. I got the crab cakes eggs benedict...and with one glance I could see the sauce was broken. You don't serve broken sauce, people! You throw it out and start again. No one wants to look down at their eggs benedict and see a brownish watery nothingness. The sides were almost inedible: the arugula was salted beyond belief and the potatoes were dry. One star for ambiance. This might be a good place to go have a drink but don't plan on eating here. read more

UPDATED: The long-awaited "restaurant" just opened. Rumors had abounded as to what this place would be about for the year and a half West Seattlites watched the space, waiting for its ultimate transformation. Though Food is served until midnight, it is most definitely a bar. It is open until 2am. Atmosphere: Lots of dark chocolate browns on the walls, soft comfy tall leather bar chairs. I covet the chairs a little, actually. Warm colored lights, meaning gold, orange, orangey-reds. The front of the space looks and feels like a bar, down to the huge flat-screen TVs installed above the liquor shelves in the bar itself. Further back there are booths, including a few larger ones. Thankfully, the sound on the TVs was muted. Instead, a funky and fun soundtrack was playing (Massive Attack, Parliament, Brazilian Girls, Guns-n-Roses, Neil Young, something that sounded like a 20s flapper tune, etc.) At times the music was a little too loud, but it is possible to have a conversation without having to shout. Booze: Yup, it's a full bar. When our server approached, we were presented with a food and a wine menu. After perusing the wine list and continuing to feel my eyes flick over to the bright flashes of ESPN in the TVs above the bar, I decided to order a cocktail. $8 each for both drinks. My companion and I each ordered a classic. No funny looks from the server or questions like "What is in that?" and the drinks were pretty good. I admit, because it seems so much like a bar, I'm a little surprised they don't have a house cocktail or a cocktail list. In spite of the wine list and the two spots in the bar where wine is stored, everything about the place screams liquor to me. ~shrug~ Food: It's really tough to judge a place on 2 dishes alone. I'm sure I will update this after repeat visits. We ordered 2 of the "small" plates ($5-15-ish range). Both dishes were anything but small. I've heard locals here in West Seattle buzzing that this would be a "tapas" style eatery. I'm going on the record now to say that small is not so small here. (I mean, unless you play football professionally or something.) Nor are the dishes tapas style in flavor profile or presentation. I asked our server about the "large" plates, which are definitely a bit pricier ($20-30 range). Sounded to me as though the menu has been designed with sharing food in mind. However, if our small plates are any indication, you can expect generous portions. I'm holding off on saying more about food until I've sampled more dishes and re-sampled one or two. After all, last night was there first night open to the public! :-) 2 drinks, 2 small plates , total bill before tip was ~$30. We chose some of the less expensive options. Fun Fact: Keep an eye out for the troll. He's already been relocated within the space once since Friends and Family Night. All-in-all: This restaurant is more of a bar. First impressions point to it being a slightly more upscale version of West 5. It has some elements in common with Black Bottle only it seems to have more of a focus (visually anyways) on liquor than wine. Stay tuned. Giving it 3 stars for now, mostly because I'm dinging it for having the flat-screen TVs. (Why is this practically a prerequisite for opening bars in West Seattle??) Considering a revision up to 4 or more stars after a few more visits. read more

I thought this place was just a bar, but it turns out they have some of the best Pho in town!! Just had some for lunch and it was great!!!

Easy place to hang out in. The vegan burger is pretty darn good too and plenty big enough to share. Bartenders are friendly.

Favorite place in West Seattle! Menu is unique, lots of friend pickles, lots of beer. Never too busy and the staff rocks

I've tried a lot of brunch places on and around the Alaska Junction and I can honestly say that I think that Shadowland has some of the yummiest brunch options. The prices are fair, the ingredients fresh, and the food is mighty tasty. The cornbeef hash was amazingly good. The chicken and waffle was good, but I probably wouldn't order it again since my waffle was a bit soggy and a hair underdone. The service was pretty quick. Our waitress was friendly, but we didn't interact too much. If you're wondering where to get brunch and you're in the area, check out Shadowland! read more

Best customer service that I have received in a long time. I went there this past Friday night and sat at the bar. The bartender was fantastic. Ordered some good and it was great too! read more

The first time my husband and I tried Shadowland a few years ago, we were pleasantly surprised to find such good food in a bar. Granted the service was a little slow but we weren't too bothered. We have visited regularly since moving to West Seattle and each time The service was worse than The last time. The last time we went there was a Sunday and because it was Seahawks we chalked up the poor service to it being busy although we swore to each other it would be the last time. Today we decided to give it another chance and have left so bitter and angry it's prompted me to write this review just so I can let go of the bad feelings I have inside after leaving Shadowland. We were barely greeted when we came in. It took about ten minutes for the server to come take our order - forget about asking us if we wanted anything to drink beforehand. We ordered coffee when we ordered our meal which was then delivered cold. I am fairly certain it was last night's coffee left over in the carafe (if you open at 11 and we arrive at noon- a fresh brewed lot of coffee won't go cold that quickly in an insulated thermos/carafe). When we advised the server that the coffee was cold, she didn't apologize she questioned whether it was indeed lukewarm then said she would have to brew a fresh pot. We got our food before we got another cup of coffee which was also served lukewarm. It was also served without utensils such as a knife and fork or napkins. We had to wait to flag her down to ask for these items with which to eat our food and again- no apology. Nothing. She never came back to ask us how our food was or if we needed anything. I spent a decade of my life working in restaurants and typically I'm the one on the side of the server- I can tell if someone is slammed or in the weeds and always try to remain compassionate and factor in the effort they are giving to their tables rather than how long I have to wait...I realize it's not all about me..I will wait forever if my server communicates with me or actually just engages with me to let me know they give a shit. Our server did neither. I still tipped her because as a former server you have to be totally delinquint for me to stiff you... but we will NEVER go back to Shadowland and all of our parties and get togethers will find a different venue to celebrate at. It's just so obvious the staff really doesn't care about their customers or how their experience is. It's a true waste because the cook obviously cares about the food. read more

Yum! All the food I've had here for happy hour has been awesome! If you try the fried chicken, I recommend doing dark meat so you get two pieces (plus it makes it easier to share). Everyone I've dealt with here was super nice and helpful. I'm still fairly new to the bar scene, but Shadowland is one of my favorite places so far because they have a good happy hour and the place just has a nice feel to it. read more

I wanted to like this place. Husband and I came here on a nice summer fall day. The food was decent, but the service was so bad!! There were only like 3 of us in the restaurant, and it took us 15 minutes to get my coffee, and like 20 minutes to get my Moscow Mule. Decent drink, and fairly decent food. But the service was lacking so I doubt we'll be back for that. read more

This weekend I visited Shadowland to give them a second chance with a buddy of mine. The first experience I had here a few months back was very poor. It was a Sunday and we were one of the few people in the bar getting ready to watch the Seahawks game. Took a couple minutes for anyone to realize we had come in and rather than seat ourselves we wanted to talk with someone to make sure we could post up near a TV. Our waitress was ok I guess once we actually sat down but for how dead the place was it was painfully slow service and they messed up 2 of the 4 food orders. I can understand slow service and a couple mistakes when a place is packed but when there is barely anyone there I expect things to be on point which I don't think is asking too much. So, I chalked it up as a off day for them, or the waitress or whomever. So this Saturday I decided to give the place a second chance and I wish I could say it got better but in fact it got worse. All I can say is we sat down at the bar, ordered a beer, realized they seemed flat to both of us after a few sips, asked the guy bartender that was there if we could get new beers as these seemed flat and he acted like we just asked him for 10 free shots or something. He was smug, short with his answer and seemed annoyed that we would ask for such a thing. (very poor body language too, almost as if he didn't want to be there) God forbid we have expectations of quality beers at a bar. He did swap the beers out for us to which we finished and promptly left after both being very surprised at his response. Considering the fact that I am a pretty chill guy that will always give a place a second chance, and am new to Yelp in general, I can confidently recommend that others do not visit this establishment unless you don't care about how the staff treats you and are willing to send food and drinks back that are sub par or have been made incorrectly to what you ordered. read more

We had an awesome dinner and even better service. I'm not a big review person, but when the service is this good I make it a point. Our server was Mara and she's stellar. She was so personable and checked on us a number of times. My group wasn't easy (some drunk colleagues) and she handled it like a total pro. Overall a great spot to bring colleagues or girlfriends. Good food and even better service. If you can, request Mara. She's amazing and one of the best servers/ bartenders I've had the pleasure of of meeting. 5 stars due to our fantastic server! read more

It is always a little busy, so getting a seat for dinner can be a small wait, but it is well worth it. My wife loves the fried pickles, and I have not found anything I dislike. We are not drinkers but the bar looks like it has a nice selection. The price is pretty reasonable for the quality. Totally recommend this place. read more

Food keeps getting better and the staff is nicer than ever, lots of vegan options, very happy I started going back.

I came here to escape the Sunday brunch onslaught of 1 hour + wait times and screaming children. Great mimosa and the fried steak and eggs was exactly what my hungry brunch-needing stomach needed. Amazin'. Service was quick and not in your face. Nice and unobtrusive and I was able to eat my meal without endless check-ins. Vibe is pretty cool, not too upscale and they've got some cool traditional light fixtures and exposed beams. A Nice quiet 11am brunch! read more

2 words: Happy Hour! I'm obsessed with their jalapeño mac & cheese and their Thai chicken pops (aka chicken wings). I've had brunch a few times and I've been satisfied for sure. I've tried a few other items on the menu and most were very good. But don't order the pork lettuce boats. Very bland. But I'll continue to return for happy hour! read more

Best place for good drinks with friends. Happy hour food is a steal. I love the vibe on Sunday nights where KEXP's Troy Nelson has a regular DJ gig. This is the spot where real west seattle industry folks go to chill. read more

It was good. Food was good--Got progressively louder and louder and broski at the bar got drunker and drunker but -hey- it's a bar. Also it wasn't over the top--just kinda loud. No big deal. Wait staff was SUPERLATIVE--stuff came on time and it was delicious. read more

I came in for open mic night, and as soon as I walked in, the atmosphere was very welcoming. They had a 10pm-12am happy hour going on for both food and drinks. I liked the availability of liquor they had. I ordered a grilled cheese, and OMG, it was amazing! I'd go back just to enjoy the sandwhich again! As far as open mic goes...I was expecting a little more. The lineup for the most part was mediocre, but that won't stop me from going in on another Tuesday night. read more

Been here a couple of times. The food is great. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Friendly staff. Would recommend it to a friend!

The mac-n-chee is waaaayyyy better than the famed West 5 mac-n-chee! I really like this new addition the West Seattle....I am a big fan of booths and this place has no lacking of them. Everything I have ever eaten there was good...nice selection of beers and a REALLY nice staff....they even served us food once really late when the kitchen was supposed to close and I was like "oh no-no-no I'm a cook too...I'm not gonna make you keep your kitchen opened for me" and they were sooo sweet about it and served us beautiful grub!!! I hope they stay around. read more

Surprisingly good food here, but the drinks are what make it a four. Excellent Moscow Mule in the proper cup!

We stopped in for lunch. Everything was tasty. They even had ranch dressing for the fried pickles.

Hi... I've been a frequent customer here for about a year. I order the same thing every time. Chicken & Waffles. Today I ordered it per usual. I arrived to pickup my to-go order and it was late (no biggie, it happens), and boxed as the hash (a little aggravated but no worries). When my order was delivered (20m after the original time) I proceeded back to my office. When I sat down to eat today it had 1 strip and and chicken leg. Since I've been there the chicken and waffles consisted of 1 waffle and two chicken strips. I would have been happy to ignore it, however I don't eat dark meat. When I called in to ask for another strip the waiter 1st tells me thats its always served with with dark and light. When I tell him that it's never been prepared for me that way he proceeds to tell me that they're out of strips. At this point I'm now hungry and frustrated as this is the 3rd problem of the day with a simple order. I asked if he can refund me just for the chicken and I'll take my half accurate order. He exclaims that I could and to bring the food back all together. When I arrive he proceeds to read the menu to me showing that it calls out light and dark meat. I ask if they change up how this meal is served daily. He says yes. THIS GUY SUCKS! He was so focused on proving a BS point than taking care of the customer, WHICH IS MY ISSUE. I've never went out my way to write a negative yelp review before but i am so hungry and frustrated on how he handled the situation. Plus I have time to kill awaiting my food at another establishment. I wasn't irate or rude, I just wanted some brunch. I don't mind mess ups, I get it, it happens. However, he was the poorest representation of Shadowland that I've ever experienced. He did nothing to resolve the issue and ensure the experience was the best it could have been. I didn't catch his name however he has brown hair, a lip ring and glasses. However, the Burnette at the bar was cool and tried to soften the blow, she's always nice. And the food is pretty good. read more

My boyfriend and I happened in to Shadowland when we first moved to Seattle. We were alone in the big city knowing no one and we walked in during trivia night. The other patrons were welcoming, having a great time. and it felt like a community. The bartenders (now known as Andy and a lady whose name I don't know, but she has dark long hair and tattoos) were professional and personable, we got service right away, the drinks were great. Atmosphere and service and happy hour food, all exceptional. I got the hummus plate, and I am VERY picky about hummus, he got the wagu burger, both excellent. My fella and I go there about once every couple of weeks or so. We love it. It is the first Seattle bar that took us in, treated us well, and fed us delicious food and drink. NOW- I shall explain my 4.999 star rating when it REALLY should by 5. I know Andy's name because he made a point to meet us. That's the special treatment I believe he and the lovely tattooed lady give everyone, and there are other folks who work there who are friendly and professional as well. Then, one night while waiting for my boyfriend, I had really bad service. Really, really bad. No greeting when I sat down at the bar... or a very long while after, waited a VERY long time to be asked about a drink, had an empty glass in front of me and STARED at the bartender as he walked back and forth four times passing me and my empty glass, then he asked the guy to my immediate right if he wanted another drink AS HE WAS DRAINING THE LAST OF HIS BEER. Ahem. At this point, I was ready to settle and meet up at the bar down the street, but in walked my boyfriend, who was greeted right away (?) and he, not knowing that I was about to leave, ordered a drink. I'm a good patron. I'm polite, tip well, and will return. Understand this - I was about to walk out the door of a bar I dearly love because I was straight up IGNORED. Why, I don't know, but it was almost as if it was on purpose. I hope it was, because he really can't be that lousy of a bartender. SO- please go to Shadowland where if Andy or the Tatooed Lady are working, you will have such a great time and a "5 star" experience. Don't let that bad egg ruin one of the best bars in Seattle. I certainly won't. But if I walk in and he's there, I will turn on my heel and walk right back out. read more

Met friends there for lunch New Year's Eve. The place is cozy and has a good feeling, but the food was horrible! My clam chowder was a gloppy mess. Only could eat a couple spoonfuls and the crackers were rancid. My friends ordered the beef dip sandwich. They arrived as ground beef on a bun or wrap. A beef drip should have sliced beef, not ground beef, on a decent hard roll with dipping sauce. Won't be going back. read more
