Robert T: I was in Shadowland when you were and had a much different experience. You may be interested to know that during the holidays Shadowland is open only because their staff volunteers for work. Based on this, they normally operate with less than half the normal staff. You may also interested to know that Dana was working with a injury. In regard to your race, it would behoove you to learn a little about Seattle and Shadowland. Shadowlands customers and staff are predominately white. This should not come as a surprise to anyone since white persons make up 65% of Seattle's population, Asian Americans make up 14% and African Americans make up 7%. Lastly, I have been to Shadowland many times in the past six years and I often see African American men and women in the bar. I have also seen the same African American persons in the bar more than once, indicating they are regulars. I wonder why these African Americans would continue to come to Shadowland and be waited on by Dana and the rest of the staff if they are racist? Maybe its because they aren't. read more

Had the chopped chicken sandwich with cheese, it was a good recipe but could have used a bit of finesse. The cheese had melted down onto the plate, it also could have used some salt.(None on the tables) The Fries rock! The music left a lot to be desired. read more

More West Seattle establishments should catch on to this...I am a fan of the clams. 6 bucks for a bowl of clams in sauce with bread...you can't beat it and so yummy. The Basil Martini is awesome although I don't think they make it anymore..bummer. Nice flat screens to watch the game too...not crowded. During the week of New Years we came to visit a friend in West Seattle and came to 'the junction'. Shadowlands was such a good place that we came back here twice. Very good cocktails. We got the mac and cheese, hummus, and chicken strips. And they were sooo good that we got the same thing and just moved one person to the left to try what we missed. read more

Christmas lights in a fishbowl. As a lamp. AWESOME! I love the decor at Shadowland! Very modern, a little dark, and incredibly creative. The televisions seem a little bit out of place since it feels more like a lounge than a sports bar, but since there was a good game on the tube, I was down for that. It really worked. Awesome, attentive service. The wine selection was a bit lacking, with no Washington red wines, but since I was sticking to beer, it didn't bother me too much. Standard restaurant American fare. Nothing really outstanding about this place except their breakfast burritos which are an amazing cure for a hangover. The chairs in the bar area are in desperate need of repair as most of the cushions are ripped and losing stuffing. The service is really hit or miss. Some days you get served promptly, most of the other days you have to wait 10 minutes before someone swings by your table to order or 15 minutes after you've put your credit card in the billfold on the table for someone to come by and pick it up. One of my favorite spots in West Seattle. The owner is a pretty cool guy, the staff is always nice, the drinks are strong and the food is AMAZING! I highly suggest the gumbo or the catfish. Only thing I'd change about this place is less garnish on the fries. read more

Really weird name for an American pub. Sounds like a mythical kingdom from a cheesy straight to dvd type movie. Once you get over that, you'll realize it's a nice place! Looks like a dump from the outside, but it's very nice inside with a few tv's showing the games. It's bar food, but with a great happy hour menu. We came specifically for the poutine, and despite low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. It's pretty close to the real deal I've had many times up in B.C. OK so I avoided going here for the longest time because I had heard from a couple of friends mentioned that the service was bad. Then I received a gift card for Shadowland and was forced to go and enjoy what turned out to be a wonderful surprise. The service was not bad, it was fine. Not great but fine. The food on the other hand was awesome. We ordered the hoisin pork shanks, the sausage stuffed cabbage and the poutine. The dishes were as creative as they were delicious. The pork shanks were slow cooked then flash fried and covered in hoisin sauce. It's hard to mess up poutine as it has 3 of my favorite ingredients in on dish - french fries, gravy and cheese, but add my all time favorite ingredient (bacon) on top of that? Shadowland, I will be back. PS - you should hire a new bartender or at least someone that knows how to mix bourbon and soda. read more

Walked in to this place for brunch because Ma'ono had an hour wait and we were too hungry to wait. Lesson learned, next time we'll just wait for a table at Ma'ono. My wife found a plastic wrapper inside her water glass, and no apology was offered, just a new glass. My drink was made incorrectly, with grapefruit juice instead of OJ. The chicken fried steak was ok, nothing terrible or remarkable, with decent gravy. The breakfast potatoes saved this review, they were delicious! My drink stayed empty for a while, until the server asked from across the restaurant if I wanted another one. At that point we were just ready to leave. read more

Shadowland taught me that Spam is totally delicious fried up and sandwiched between fluffy egg and melty cheese. I can't wait to go back. I liked the variety on their menu. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. Also, it's conveniently located about a block from a big free parking lot. The service was pretty good, though I ordered a beer listed as "on tap" and they brought me a bottle. The only real detractor when we went was the live music - some guy with an acoustic guitar that would randomly strum and ramble for a few minutes, then stop long enough that they'd finally turn up the bar music. Then he'd suddenly start playing over top of the bar music, so they'd finally turn it off and then he would stop playing and just ramble again. Awesome. read more

Sat at the bar for 10 minutes. Fairly quiet on a Saturday afternoon. The bartender cleaned up the bar in front of us and the proceeded to go to the other end of the bar to eat a sandwich and talk to a friend. Never said anything to us. Great food! Very retro-looking looking. We walked by looking for a unique location for a mid-afternoon meal, and were not disappointed. Had a great beer selection (although it looks like spirits are their main draw, based on the selection). There was a very eclectic menu, with a wide variety for everyone. We were very happy with our appetizer and our entrees, which came out pretty quickly. I saw the other reviews talking about the service, and although the serving staff looked to be very busy I wouldn't call it abnormal for a place this size. Eclectic menu, good food, great drinks, and fun atmosphere. The cheesesteak and firesteak are great, as are the sautéed green beans and poutine. I definitely miss the catfish Rueben though. Holy dear god never again. We hadn't visited for a bit and the return proved our staying away was the right choice. The food has slid downhill but worse... much worse.... the bartender insisted on playing non-stop some crappy blink 182 band. Song after song, album after album. This is a local favorite for me. I enjoy the food, drinks and the staff. You know you're a regular when you get seated and the server says, "Ginger Bee, brussel sprouts and chicken wings, Wendy?" If I could give less stars, I would. The bartenders, and menu are great, and even better at happy hour. But the servers, particularly Dana, are rude and inattentive.
