During the week of New Years we came to visit a friend in West Seattle and came to 'the junction'. Shadowlands was such a good place that we came back here twice. Very good cocktails. We got the mac and cheese, hummus, and chicken strips. And they were sooo good that we got the same thing and just moved one person to the left to try what we missed. read more

Christmas lights in a fishbowl. As a lamp. AWESOME! I love the decor at Shadowland! Very modern, a little dark, and incredibly creative. The televisions seem a little bit out of place since it feels more like a lounge than a sports bar, but since there was a good game on the tube, I was down for that. It really worked. Awesome, attentive service. The wine selection was a bit lacking, with no Washington red wines, but since I was sticking to beer, it didn't bother me too much. All in all, a really solid watering hole! read more

Been living in West Seattle for 6 months. Shadowland is my go to bar/restaurant. Go there about once a week for dinner, brunch or just good beer! Never been disappointed. Have tried a number of the menu items and always pleased. Kitchen staff puts out solid food and most visits Casia is my server and she is awesome!. Go for brunch before the market, and always struggle with what to order as ALL the brunch items are over the top! Great West Seattle spot! read more

So first off, service here is terrible for these reasons: *They give you 1 drink menu for multiple people and then come back in 3 minutes and want to take your order... what?? * waitress is snappy and definitely thinks she's super cool, well cooler than me... soo not true * walks by going at least 10mph grabbing things off our table WITHOUT asking first if we'd like it removed, while we stare at each other like, WTF!! * had to go to bar myself and ask for limes I'd requested when I had received lemons, 2 times! * basic serving and customer service skills were not at all present. Waitress acted like we were bothering her and she had way better things to do. * then when we did want something, waitress MIA-- felt intentional. * also, when asking prices waitress said, "yea, I don't know." And did not offer to find out..( top shelf scotch ) * last but NOT least, if fact the biggest Nono ever... well two things, paid with cash, she says in a shitty way, " want change..? " I reply, "yes." Then comes back and shorts me the change, 2 quarters. I ask her for the change and she says, "oh we don't carry change, well here's a dollar!" Fucking terrible! I tip for service and when you make my experience a fucking shit show, you get your little dollar back plus one! *waitress with the long red hair-- leave the biz, you lack the customer service skills necessary to create a good experience. And you alone will make long time residents like myself never return for the good food !! Shitty. read more

Robert T: I was in Shadowland when you were and had a much different experience. You may be interested to know that during the holidays Shadowland is open only because their staff volunteers for work. Based on this, they normally operate with less than half the normal staff. You may also interested to know that Dana was working with a injury. In regard to your race, it would behoove you to learn a little about Seattle and Shadowland. Shadowlands customers and staff are predominately white. This should not come as a surprise to anyone since white persons make up 65% of Seattle's population, Asian Americans make up 14% and African Americans make up 7%. Lastly, I have been to Shadowland many times in the past six years and I often see African American men and women in the bar. I have also seen the same African American persons in the bar more than once, indicating they are regulars. I wonder why these African Americans would continue to come to Shadowland and be waited on by Dana and the rest of the staff if they are racist? Maybe its because they aren't. read more

Really weird name for an American pub. Sounds like a mythical kingdom from a cheesy straight to dvd type movie. Once you get over that, you'll realize it's a nice place! Looks like a dump from the outside, but it's very nice inside with a few tv's showing the games. It's bar food, but with a great happy hour menu. We came specifically for the poutine, and despite low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. It's pretty close to the real deal I've had many times up in B.C. Canada, with the use of real cheese curds, gravy, and steak fries. Well done! read more

No. Bartenders doing blow in the bathroom. VERY lackluster service. Overpriced poorly made drinks. Trapeze acts. What happened to my beloved late night spot? :( read more

Standard restaurant American fare. Nothing really outstanding about this place except their breakfast burritos which are an amazing cure for a hangover. The chairs in the bar area are in desperate need of repair as most of the cushions are ripped and losing stuffing. The service is really hit or miss. Some days you get served promptly, most of the other days you have to wait 10 minutes before someone swings by your table to order or 15 minutes after you've put your credit card in the billfold on the table for someone to come by and pick it up. Bar is decent, food is decent and the service is inconsistent. read more

One of my favorite spots in West Seattle. The owner is a pretty cool guy, the staff is always nice, the drinks are strong and the food is AMAZING! I highly suggest the gumbo or the catfish. Only thing I'd change about this place is less garnish on the fries. read more

OK so I avoided going here for the longest time because I had heard from a couple of friends mentioned that the service was bad. Then I received a gift card for Shadowland and was forced to go and enjoy what turned out to be a wonderful surprise. The service was not bad, it was fine. Not great but fine. The food on the other hand was awesome. We ordered the hoisin pork shanks, the sausage stuffed cabbage and the poutine. The dishes were as creative as they were delicious. The pork shanks were slow cooked then flash fried and covered in hoisin sauce. It's hard to mess up poutine as it has 3 of my favorite ingredients in on dish - french fries, gravy and cheese, but add my all time favorite ingredient (bacon) on top of that? Shadowland, I will be back. PS - you should hire a new bartender or at least someone that knows how to mix bourbon and soda. read more

Great vibe! Nice, prompt service. Loved their Arugula salad! Will be back!! Also, heard they pour good drinks, so that's a plus!

I enjoyed the Philly Cheesesteak; however, the service is poor; drinks are weak and the establishment is dirty. The bathrooms are nasty! I don't feel comfortable eating at this location. I don't recommend this location. read more

Shadowland taught me that Spam is totally delicious fried up and sandwiched between fluffy egg and melty cheese. I can't wait to go back. I liked the variety on their menu. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. Also, it's conveniently located about a block from a big free parking lot. The service was pretty good, though I ordered a beer listed as "on tap" and they brought me a bottle. The only real detractor when we went was the live music - some guy with an acoustic guitar that would randomly strum and ramble for a few minutes, then stop long enough that they'd finally turn up the bar music. Then he'd suddenly start playing over top of the bar music, so they'd finally turn it off and then he would stop playing and just ramble again. Awesome. read more

I love Shadowland. Always have. The atmosphere, the nearly imcomparable happy hour, the Monday quiz night. It's one of my favorite bars in town. read more

The service here is insane. The employees all pretend you are invisible. The food is always good, it's a super convenient location, but the lack of any kind of professional service just buries this place. You have to do a lot wrong for me to write a negative review. The only reason I am writing this one is we have been waiting for a beat salad for 40 minutes after being ignored for 10 minutes before being offered a menu. read more

Came in and ordered a burger and not only was it a long wait but I felt the food was really bad for what it cost. They must do well on the drinks because I don't get how they survive. read more

Walked in to this place for brunch because Ma'ono had an hour wait and we were too hungry to wait. Lesson learned, next time we'll just wait for a table at Ma'ono. My wife found a plastic wrapper inside her water glass, and no apology was offered, just a new glass. My drink was made incorrectly, with grapefruit juice instead of OJ. The chicken fried steak was ok, nothing terrible or remarkable, with decent gravy. The breakfast potatoes saved this review, they were delicious! My drink stayed empty for a while, until the server asked from across the restaurant if I wanted another one. At that point we were just ready to leave. read more

Fantastic service and great menu. Definitely a go-to.

From the outside of the establishment I didn't know what to expect. After visiting them I think it just became my "go to" spot. The food is great and the service is just as good. Friendly & very helpful staff read more

While it doesn't look the nicest it certainly has some delicious food and cocktails. Place fills up quick, and the service isn't always that attentive so it can take a while. Been a few times and will go again. read more

I like the atmosphere of this place a lot. Good place to bring a date. Very classy and inviting. The food is good, not amazing but pretty solid. The only real complaint I have is with the service. While the servers are usually friendly most of the time it can take a long time to get your bill and have asked for things like water or ketchup and had them not arrive. Overall I like Shadowlands and will go again. read more

Sat at the bar for 10 minutes. Fairly quiet on a Saturday afternoon. The bartender cleaned up the bar in front of us and the proceeded to go to the other end of the bar to eat a sandwich and talk to a friend. Never said anything to us. After a few minutes of watching her we got up and left. Good service doesn't take much if you care at all. read more

Piss poor service. My buddy went to the bar to ask for the drinks we ordered 20 minutes earlier and was scolded for not ordering though the waitress. We literally flagged her down for the order and it still never came. No apologies. Wasn't even busy enough to justify a wait. read more

It was a lackluster Sunday night and I wanted a touch of last minute weekend socialization. The bar is on the dark side of ambiance and style. Awesome staff who know when to stop and when to let you be. Cool happy hour options with cheap delicious late night food. Would be a great spot to grab a secluded feeling booth to make out with your lover over some cocktails. read more

Great food! Very retro-looking looking. We walked by looking for a unique location for a mid-afternoon meal, and were not disappointed. Had a great beer selection (although it looks like spirits are their main draw, based on the selection). There was a very eclectic menu, with a wide variety for everyone. We were very happy with our appetizer and our entrees, which came out pretty quickly. I saw the other reviews talking about the service, and although the serving staff looked to be very busy I wouldn't call it abnormal for a place this size. It didn't distract from the quality of the food, and the menu was (again!) very awesome. We will be back! read more

Eclectic menu, good food, great drinks, and fun atmosphere. The cheesesteak and firesteak are great, as are the sautéed green beans and poutine. I definitely miss the catfish Rueben though. As for complaints about the staff, yeah, they can be a little surly, but that's part of the charm of the place. read more

Holy dear god never again. We hadn't visited for a bit and the return proved our staying away was the right choice. The food has slid downhill but worse... much worse.... the bartender insisted on playing non-stop some crappy blink 182 band. Song after song, album after album. If I was 13 year old girl I would have been in heaven. I'm not a 13 year old girl. As a rule, a bar should fire any bartender who dominates the music like that. It's enough I won't risk coming back for a bit. read more

This is a local favorite for me. I enjoy the food, drinks and the staff. You know you're a regular when you get seated and the server says, "Ginger Bee, brussel sprouts and chicken wings, Wendy?" I love coming into an establishment and feeling welcome. This is that kind of place. I'm considering changing my name to Norm. read more

This place offers a cool atmosphere but that's where it ends. The drinks are unique but not to weird... but the service is so slow that you lose interest. We came for dessert and waited the advertised 20 minutes for a warm cookie only to get a burnt cookie. This is the second time we've had slow service and our expectations ruined at Shadowland. I want to like it, I really do... read more

We had a party of nine be treated terribly by a grossly inexperienced server and a troll of a manger. The food was fine, the drinks were fine too... BUT the staff!? Horrible! Rude rude rude people. I was in the industry for years. These people don't know their rear end from their elbows. However the bartenders were very nice. Wait staff not so much. Couldn't pay me to go back there. read more

If I could give less stars, I would. The bartenders, and menu are great, and even better at happy hour. But the servers, particularly Dana, are rude and inattentive. I like coming for sporting events and casual outings, but when the serving staff are so unprofessional and unwelcoming, it makes it really hard to want to come back. read more
