Ambiance is cute and comfortable right across from the beach. Service was good, he was pretty attentive but when I asked if the fish in my taco was fresh he said "it should be" so not sure he knew. That fish was far from fresh and was fried from a bag bought at the store I'm sure. In the shape of a perfect rectangle and thin. Right across from the water I would expect fresh fish in a fish taco! I also got a hard shell green chicken taco which the chicken was good but came in a pre-formed taco shell bought that way. Sigh! Hubbs got the tachos and said they were good. There are no free chips and salsa which is fine but let me tell you... if I have to pay for them they had better be fresh chips with damn good salsa and those chips came from a bag from the same store my taco shell and fish came from! Save your time/money and skip this place. We ordered multiple different types of tacos and chips and salsa. It tasted awful and completely fell apart as soon as you tried to eat it. Our waitress was not friendly. From the moment she came over it felt like she was in a rush, despite there being 3 tables max. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt that she was having a bad day, however, she had no issues joking and smiling at the bar with her coworkers. While our bland food was falling apart she never once asked if we wanted a fork. She finally came over and asked how it was and we asked for the check. It's easy to park outside and walk into El Chupacabra. It's a little dark inside so bring a flashlight (that's humor...). We got a table right away and had a drink order in fast. The service was great! The guac was a little small for the price, but it was full of flavor. I got a trio of different tacos. Each one was delicious, but the fried fish was definitely my favorite. The menu is very basic with Chipotle style bowls and some taco options. I swung by for dinner on a Saturday around 6:30 PM and they were at 40-50% capacity the whole time. Overall, not mind blowing but the food was solid if you're looking for something convenient. Beer Battered Fish Tacos (4.25/5): Fish was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and super tender inside. Everything was exactly as you'd expect and done well. The slaw was crunchy and fresh, tortilla chips were salty and harder crunchy. I just wish the limes were a bit juicier. read more

If you're looking for quality, it's not the place for you. The service was good for being a divey vibe. The servers were super attentive and friendly. The food and drinks came out lightning quick, too. We came here for Cinco de Mayo's extended happy hour and will be back when we're in the area. This place was phenomenal. Me and my family of 4 came here and got sat down instantly. We ordered our food and maybe 15 minutes later it came out and was probably the best Mexican food i've had in quite a while. I ordered the Carne Asada tacos on the soft corn and they were delicious. We've gone to El Chupacabra for many years (mostly the Phinney Ridge Location) mainly because the have clear vegan options. As time has gone on service and food quality seem to have diminished. We gave alki a chance tonight and although service was fast and friendly I noticed my vegan steak burrito was not what I was used to,. Upon further investigating I realized they'd made me essentialy a burrito with vegan ground sausage, which was a little puzzling, I asked the server if this is what they served for the "mock steak" now and she went back and asked the kitchen, she came back and said, "no, that's the sausage.. Me- oh... Her- is this ok, do we have a problem Me - feeling awkward.. "no, I mean, it's ok, I'll survive ( basically saying I don't need another meal, I wasn't that hungry at this point and we were on a deadline) Bill comes, my "chimichanga" is still on the bill even though that's not what I ordered. I've already eaten at most of the Mexican restaurants in West Seattle, so I can't believe I waited so long to try El Chupacabra. It was amazing and I would definitely go back. It is primarily a bar, so it is very dark inside. I went on a rainy day but I think it would be really fun to also visit during the summer since they have outdoor seating with nice views of Alki Beach. They serve brunch on the weekends (11 AM - 3 PM) but you can also order off of the regular lunch menu. I recommend the 2 Enchiladas plate. It comes with your choice of meat, choice of red or green sauce (or one of each), and refried black beans and Spanish rice on the side. I thought the food tasted great and it was very reasonably priced compared to some of the other restaurants around here! It was a lot of food and there was enough for leftovers. Our server was also awesome. He was friendly, took our order promptly, and brought our food out quickly. He was really much better than what we are used to at other places. The staff is lovely, always helpful and friendly and the food is the best! I've never had anything here I didn't love and we've tried a lot of the menu. It has a great location right across from Alki Beach and serves up delicious food and drinks at a reasonable price. The chips and salsa fresca are amazing and the salsas on the table (salsa roja, salsa verde, chipotle pineapple) are addicting. The chicken tinga tacos are flavorful, juicy, and delicious. Always a solid choice. After a morning of freezing but sunny beachcombing, we stopped in for a Saturday lunch. The wait wasn't long at all, and so many servers stopped by to make sure we had been taken care of. They bring out crayons with the kid's menu, so little ones can keep entertained. We had a great table right by the window so the view was excellent. Chup also has two patio heaters, so they're still seating outdoors if you're looking for good patios. The food is really varied and there are plenty of options for any dietary restricted individuals. They have a full bar and really interesting seasonal cocktails (Mexican hot toddy was so good). I've been to this place easily 80 times over the past ten years. This is definitely a place where the sum is more than its parts - a pretty special mix. It's a divey place with a beautiful view. Even more so now that they have the upstairs bar open with a covered, uninterrupted view of the water. It's got a pretty simple menu, but there are some things on it (like the crispy outside of the chimichanga, or the chipotle pineapple sauce) that become things you straight up crave and compare other restaurants to. The drinks are relatively affordable, you can recognize all the ingredients, and they taste good. The crowd is always interesting to watch - some old school Seattle grunge, a few random tourist families, workers on a break. I got a chimichanga with the mock green chicken and vegan cheese and it was amazing!! The mock chicken is impressive. Chimichanga was just right, not too greasy. Hubby got the nachos (which are *huge* - perfect for him!) with mock steak and vegan cheese/sour cream; the mock steak was OK but everything else about the nachos was great so he was still really happy. Our non-vegan friends both got chimichangas and they were very happy with their food. The chips tasted like they were from a grocery store and the sauces they put on the table were gross, except the green sauce. The salsa tasted like it was from a jar. My mojito was decent but didn't have much flavor, too many limes and they didn't taste fresh. Hubby had a margarita and burrito, which he said was ok. We both though the carne asada was chewy and very salty. My biggest complaint was the uncooked cheese and tortilla in my quesadilla. How hard is it to mess that up?! Not impressed.
