A cute spot for Chinese hotpot! Nothing japanese shabu about this place but that's ok. The ingredients were fresh and thorough cleaned. Combo meat prices felt a tad bit pricier than most other places but all the other a la carte menu items seemed to be on par pricing wise with other spots. Didn't feel rushed to eat and pay either. You have to sit at a table and not at the bar if you want to do a duo of soup bases. The sirloin steak was very tender and I liked how they laid out the various ingredients in tiny portioned plates for you to make your dipping sauce at your table. Also tried the manilla clams with black bean sauce app and only one out of a good portioned plate of them had gritty sand in it. One of the best spots on allergy awareness and dietary restrictions I've come across when it comes to hot pot! Everything is clearly marked on the menu and the waitress was so kind to offer me gluten-free soy sauce and update the soup base so it contains no gluten. The portion on the combos were great and the price was quite reasonable. Vegetables were fresh, meat was delicious, soup base was simple (a bit plain as others have mentioned) but I tend to dislike too many chemicals and additive ingredients in my hotpot, so the simple broth is fine w/me. I think a simple chicken bone/broth base or even a veggie stock base would make it more flavorful though. I had never heard of Shabu in Quincy until I saw it on instagram and thought it was a new restaurant. I saw they have a lunch buffet deal which is $39 for all you can eat hotpot. It is a very small restaurant with a bar area and probably 6 tables inside but thankfully when I went there were a few tables open. The price does not include the broth and they have some good options to pick from. I got the szechuan spicy and miso broth, which were both solid. I tried the sirloin beef, fatty beef, and regular beef and the sirloin beef was some of the best hotpot meat I have had. For $39, it may seem a little bit pricey but the quality of the ingredients is very high. The sirloin beef was better than some a la carte meat I have had at premium hotpot places. I got my usual hotpot ingredients such as noodles, watercress, enoki mushrooms, and different types of tofu and all were good. They don't have a sauce bar like they do at Chinese hotpot but they have a few ingredients where you can make your own sauce which although it was simple, was very tasty. This place is really good but I wish they did dinner buffet since I prefer other places for a la carte hotpot. The service was mediocre but what really bummed me out was the food. The hot pot broth was bland and fishy (not in a good way). We tried 4 different broths and all of them were tasteless. All of our appetizers and meals were very average and there were no homemade sauces. If I could be more precise I would rate this a 3.5 star but i'll be generous since i'm a bit spoiled when it comes to hot pot. Parking around here can be iffy but there's a free public parking lot around the corner (across the street from Taipei Cuisine). First thing to note is that this restaurant is SMALL. If you have a large group make sure to get here early otherwise you'll be waiting! This was my first experience at a hot pot in Quincy and surely won't be my last. We walked in to an empty restaurant on a Friday night and while the service was on par it was rushed. I explained to the waitress I was very much a rookie but got no guidance on the menu even after my party asked for it. This is a cute little hot pot restaurant, there are seats at the bar and a few tables that probably fit around 30 people max in the whole restaurant. I definitely prefer this over any other hot pot places around Quincy. I like coming here in lunch so that I don't have to wait for a table during the dinner rush hours. They have ayce that different prices for lunch/dinner and weekdays/weekends. Mind you, there are a few more items on the dinner ayce menu and some of the better cuts of meats aren't on there. I was disappointed that the short ribs wasn't part of the ayce menu at all and beef tongue is only part of the dinner ayce menu, but I guess for about $24 a person for lunch ayce, the fatty beef and sirloin cuts are good enough. They also don't have pumpkin on the ayce menu which I was extremely disappointed about because it's my favorite thing to order at hot pot for vegetables. If you are not that hungry or if you're not someone who eats a lot then I would recommend going with the regular combos rather than doing ayce because it won't be worth it and you might end up with leftover food. The combos that I normally order are the short rib combo or the meat combo. For broth, either miso or spicy szechuan which my boyfriend always gets because he prefers the spicier broth. Honestly, some times I order the house broth too. Their meat portions are standard and you'll definitely get full after consuming one combo. As for the sushi, they literally just run over to bcafe to get the sushi so the quality is always great because bcafe never disappoints. The service just depends on who we get as a server that day. There are some serves that are super attentive, but during my last recent, our server didn't even check up on us until the very end when we were about to finish and she asked us if we're doing okay. However, we both came down with food poisoning this evening. One patron was 100% vegetarian in terms of broth and itemized list; the other was meat-based. We frequent Shabu quite often usually on Friday nights. We first came here about 2 years ago based on a friends recommendation. I'll preface this by saying I am worried about writing this review in fear that we will never never get a seat again on a Friday night - this is definitely one of Quincy's best kept secrets. I only had one experience with hot pot previous to Shabu and was not super excited about it, but also didn't hate it. We decided to give it another try. It was a little bit of a risk because I have two young children 7yo and 9yo and this was a total different different way of eating. My son was traditionally a poor eater so we were not sure how he would respond. Our first visit was no less than amazing. Shabu is a small place but but is very energetic and has great buzz to it. The menu at first was a little hard to figure out but we had a great server who navigated us through and helped us order. Although they do not have a kids menu, there are so many great items for kids to choose from. As mentioned, my son the picky eater, found a couple things he loved. They were kind enough to prepare a non-spicy version of their chicken tenders along with a side of rice and some Napa cabbage and he was off to the races ! We chose a meat combo supreme with prime rib, chicken, and pork. It comes with a choice of noodle, choice of soup and some vegetables. It's delicious. Our favorite noodle is ramen and my choice of soup is spicy schezwan - my kids get the miso broth. We have also tried a number of different meats - short rib which is amazing and the wagyu beef is over the top. They have a great wine by the glass selection and good bottle list. Of particular note is the service- it's excellent. We get a little more attention because we are more than regulars, however, I remember how good the service was on our first visit as noted. They also have an outdoor patio that is heated and open all year long. We have found this a great style of cuisine and its light and fresh. You can order a'l'carte or in combos. You have a lot of choices if you are out for a lite dinner or a big meal. read more

How in the world have I not reviewed this place yet? I'm stunned. I've been here many, many times. With my wife, with friends, with a big group of Yelpers and with some family. This modest establishment sits on one of Quincy's main roads but there's plenty of street parking. Inside you'll find about 7-8 tables as well as a bar counter that sits another 6 or so people. And on every table, as you can imagine, is an induction burner and usually a ton of plates of ingredients ready to be swished around in the various broths they offer. Best of all, they have an all-you-can-eat option available with reasonable pricing. They call it the buffet and there's a dedicated menu for it. This is our favorite option and a great way to try various things to keep the meal very interesting. There's over fifty options to pick from including beef, lamb, chicken, pork, turkey, various mushrooms, noodles, and seafood as well. All of the meats and veggies we've had there have been of great quality and the service impeccable. I haven't had the seafood but people I've been with have and they had no complaints either. There's also fourteen different soup bases to pick from which is also nice and they recently introduced a new pot allowing one to have to three different ones per table at once. I recommend the kimchi one which is our favorite. The Japanese Curry one is interesting as well. All in all, this place rocks! The quality of the ingredients was good but definitely on the more expensive side. In my opinion, doing hot pot at home is way more cost effective. Shabu Restaurant is located a short distance from the intersection of B Cafe (which used to be Beni Cafe) and Yocha. They offer their shabu shabu in buffet style at lunch everyday (M-F $21.95, Sat & Sun $25.95), but only from Monday-Wednesday $29.95 for dinner. We came on a Sunday, so AYCE was not an option, and ended up paying $48 for the two of us for our evening's meal. We started with their edamame $4.25, salted soybeans that arrived in those inedible pods that we squeezed the beans out of. While they offer a regular soup base for no charge, my DC wanted the miso $3, while I wanted to try their Japanese curry for the extra chunks of carrots and potatoes that came with. We went with both and an order of the Surf & Turf Combo $19.75, opting for the udon over rice, and beef and lamb for the two meats. Iced tofu $2.75 and fish paste $4.95 rounded out our meal. My half pot of soup arrived rather lumpy and clumpy and needed some additional heat and attention (aka stirring) to incorporate the globs of curry floating beneath the murky surface. The seafood platter portion of the combo was rather shareable for two, but less so the meats since they were each but a count of 3 slices. The iced tofu was soup soakingly good as usual, but the fish paste was unexpectedly served on a plate with a spoon rather than in a bag as I had supposed. So no long strands of fish noodles... instead it was more like fish dumplings. But they were still good. We both generally ended up preferring the curry base over the miso, though both options were fine for the job. Having ordered light, we weren't stuffed by any means, but had room left for something sweet. And so for dessert, off to Yocha! read more
