This was a great find when we were wandering in Trastavere one evening! The early dinner crowd seems to be mostly tourists. Italians show up a little later. Wait staff are very friendly and helpful. I had a pizza which was excellent: great crust & tasty toppings. I had a great glass of Roman beer which was a great complement to the pizza. My wife had the cacio e pepe. That was also a big hit--the perfect amount of chewiness & flavor. Definitely worth the visit if you're anywhere near here. read more

Stumbled upon this place in Trastevere for a late lunch after a long day of sightseeing. The AC inside was a welcome respite from the heat outside and crowds. During lunch this place was very quiet. The decor is old school Hollywood pictures and simple tables with paper covers. The food was delicious. Probably one of the best we have had in Rome. We will be back for dinner. The primi spaghetti with octopus was amazing and the rigatoni with sausage was very tasty. 1/2 liter of wine was about 12 euro. Come here! read more

My friend and I tried 8 restaurants in Rome and sette ocho was the absolute best! The Staff was friendly and the Food simply great! Wine was by the bottle but we didn't have any trouble amptying it! We had a lovely meal here. The wait staff were attentive without being too much. My daughter and I both had pasta, the linguini with lemon and cheese and the gnocchi, and my husband and older daughter went for the pizzas. Starting to be skeptical of Rome restaurant ratings on yelp. Have the reviewers not had really awesome pasta before? This was average...and i am being very kind. Gnocchi, tonarelli gricia...no special flavors in the sauce. It is open earlier than most so that is the highlight. Barbera d'alba paolina was really good wine selection. We will not be back to this ordinary Italian dinner. read more

The price for the dishes is alright. 10€ ish per main course. You'll need to pay "coperto" 2€ per person which is basically bread with 4 different tapas unordered on your table. If you won't touch it you probably don't need to pay coperto. And yes, you also don't need to eat the bread because it's nothing exciting but alright if you want to have "antipasti". So as my main course I ordered gnocchi because I've asked the staff which pasta is made freshly. Well you could also take gnocchi's from the supermarket, which is probably better than what you'll get there. I was disappointed by the taste of them. So boring. I would recommend a better restaurant where the food is much better. The ravioli that my boyfriend was also "fresh pasta" (I don't think so) was actually nice though but a little portion. Like only 4 or 5 ravioli for 11,50€ which i'm not sure was worthy or not. read more

These people are not messing around, my friends! We stopped at Roma Sparita, as we have been eating there for many years before it was "discovered" by that guy who used to go through the back door. Since he published that restaurant, its become difficult to get a seat, even for lunch in November. Then Andy Bourdain followed suit, and exposed the same place, as though he didn't have time to check around. Since then, without a reservation, we were turned away. This was at first a disappointment, which we decided might lead to a good adventure. Never did we guess we would find a place like this on a Sunday afternoon. "Make food not war" is emblazoned on the t-shirts of the employees. Believe me, if you eat here, you will only have satisfaction and love on your mind! The antipasti seemed a bit pricey at €8 to €10, but there was enough delicious food on each plate to fill us both, two times! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to eat the pasta with cacio e pepe - we wanted to compare it with the other place. Before I compare the dish, let me compare the atmosphere. Whereas the people at the other place are efficient and kind, the vibe is formal and stiff. This place feels like your local favorite restaurant, that you wish you grew up with on the corner. We did hear one other table of English - everyone else was Italian. Comfortable, clean, kind, attentive, caring. Now - the pasta. Favolosissimo! No, it's not in a bowl of Parmesan, but it IS perfect. The rigatoni, also, was al dente and beautifully dressed. The affordable wine, Barbera d'alba, helped make the pasta slide right down. We over ordered, because we were used to paying these prices for much smaller portions. I'm trying to let things settle so I can try one of the beautiful desserts I've seen floating by to other tables. Wow. I'm not saying we will never go back to Sparita, land of Rick Steve's acolytes, but it might not be our first choice next time. I am still full, trying to decide when we can come back. One of our best meals in Italy! A lovely off-the-beaten-path choice in the Trastevere area of Rome - no crowds when we went. We started with the combined cheese and meat platter, which we all loved, along with a garlic olive oil bruschetta. Then we had a rigatoni carbonara, spaghetti all Raffo, a pork steak with roasted potatoes, and a pizza 'cutting board' where you can choose 3 different pizzas combined in a pizza sized for two. We always stay in the Trastevere area when visiting Roma so we prefer to eat locally. Sette Oche was great! The formaggio plati was delicious. Getting lost in Rome is the way to go and finding yourself in restaurants like this with the help of reviews makes it even more enjoyable. The staff was very welcoming and attentive to our group of 6 US tourists. It's hard to achieve relative perfection in a land of incredible food but this place was only just short. Very fair prices, plenty of seating, solid dishes described very accurately/well on the menu. Don't travel across town to visit this place as there are just too many options to justify, but if you are close by do not hesitate to enjoy a dining experience here. read more

From great service to amazing food, this is the place to go. A little off the beaten path, Sette offered a great setting for my friends and I to relax and enjoy ourselves. This place made me miserable...and it's rare for a restaurant to be so bad that it makes me miserable. To start with, we took an Uber over there just because of the high ratings which...what the heck!!!?? There's no way this place should have more than 3 stars!! We were in the 2nd sub-basement and were the first seated for lunch. It filled up with other tourists a while later. So given that we were the first to order, it shouldn't be hard to get it in right. Well, they managed to get several things wrong, forgot to bring my wine (which ended up being swill and served with a bang on the table so that the table was covered in it), no water refills despite asking several times, but worse than the barely existent service was the food...absolutely atrocious!! The meat tasted foul, the pizzas were super doughy and undercooked and the gnocchi were dense and hard!! Didn't bother with dessert given that all of the food ended up disappointing us. read more

This place is a true hidden gem! We were lucky enough to come across it one night while wandering through Trastevere. We were only in Rome for two nights and ended up eating here for both! I loved the small tasting plate they greeted us with (soft bread, grilled zuchinni, and warm salty cheese.) The lemon and goat cheese pasta was perfection. We also loved the sweet little restaurant kitty that came out to greet us while we were dining on the patio. Overall a true 10/10 for food, service, and atmosphere! :) I wish we lived closer so that we could go back. read more

I came to this restaurant because another one nearby I was recommended to was booked, but this place didn't disappoint. I ordered the Linguine al limone & Insalata Sette Oche. The salad was as delicious as it sounded on the menu (fresh spinach, rucola salad, goat cheese, honey, walnuts, and pear). I was a bit weary of the pasta prior to ordering it, because I had a lemon pasta previously (at another restaurant in Los Angeles) and it was way too saturated with lemon juice. First class food and lovely service. We fell into this out of the way spot when another favorite was closed (Monday) for lunch. We had individual pizzas. One w spicy sausage and one with mozzarella di bufala, arugula and cherry tomatoes. Delicious and freshly made. The food was so good that we decided to return for dinner. We had 2 of the day's specials. Roast breast of veal with rosemary and spaghetti marinara (tomato and anchovy) Sides of roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables. Fabulous! Followed by a ricotta & pear torta and espresso. The whole meal with 1/4 liter house wine and small antipasti/coperto was 48 euro. Did I say first class food and lovely service? I'll say it again. Perfect casual dinner in Rome. We were so glad to find it and plan to be back for at least two of our remaining three nights in Rome. Yes, it will ruin you for pizza and wine prices in the US. We ordered the meat and cheese plate, the gnocchi to share, three of us had pizza and one had pasta, tiramisu, limoncello, and the chianti (which we are googling now to find a US supplier). Wait staff spoke English (well, enough to be helpful, but not so much to lose the ambiance). They had English menus also. Charming inside. And tap water. Yes, tap water that's good enough to drink. Great experience. Food was simple and made from quality ingredients. We tried 3 bruschetta: artichoke cream, tomato and rocket, and salt and pepper. All were delicious, but the last one was amazing: garlicky, salty, mmmmm. My husband's chicken with orange and almonds was light a bright, and my gnocchi were fresh and al dente. We had the Chopping Geese for 2, the Tonarelli cacio de pepe, Rigatoni Burina and Rigatoni Carbonara for our 1st and 2nd course. Our 3rd course was the Beef Tagliatti...amazing!!! I am SO glad the recommended restaurant we were trying to go to was closed. At almost 3pm, after having walked seemingly forever, we were desperate to just get fed. We did a quick Yelp search and ended up here. Turned out to be one of our best meals in Rome. Every ingredient on the pizza was so fresh and fragrant, topped on the perfect thin crust. The pasta had great flavor and, unlike some others we had in the city, didn't feel heavy. I especially loved the dining room - quaint and cozy, yet very breathable. The young waitstaff were also quite adorable. When I think of Rome, I think of that pizza and the cheese... (and the Colosseum, St. Peter's...). read more

For the last night of our honeymoon in Italy, we were looking for a fresh, home cooked Italian meal. We came across Sette Oche on Yelp as we searched for restaurants in the Trastavere neighborhood (away from all the touristy spots near our hotel). We couldn't have found a better restaurant for our final meal! Every dish we ordered was incredible and made for a memorable last dinner of a memorable honeymoon. We had made a reservation on Yelp (love this feature and wish more restaurants made it this easy to book a table!), we got there right when they had opened and by the time we left the whole restaurant was packed. We started our meal with the house wine, they brought us a basket of bread and a trio bowl with their housemade mozzarella (which they make daily!!), some olives, and grilled zucchini in olive oil. We decided to each get a pasta dish - spaghetti with hot chili oil and linguine with goat cheese and lemon. OMG it was the BEST pasta we had during our entire trip to Amalfi and Rome! We also ordered a Margherita pizza and we're very impressed with the flavors of the dough and sauce - the two things we look for in a good pizza. I wish we had discovered this place sooner as to have avoided some of the less than memorable meals of our time in Rome! I had a very nice experience in this restaurant. We went for dinner on a week day and the restaurant was quiet and cosy. The food was not extraordinary but very good and the service too. It's true that they make you pay for the bread and sides they serve as soon as you sit down; but that was to be expected. They were very tasty, and you can always tell them you don't want it if you don't want to pay (I've done that before in Italy). The service was very good and fast. No complains! read more
