My wife and I had the hardest time finding authentic cuisine while in Rome. We walked around seeing the sites all day and by night we were so tired and hungry that we typically sat down at the first restaurant we saw. A few wrong turns led us to Sette Oche (which we thought was called the blind duck until Google told us otherwise) this was an amazing accident. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive, recommending a great bottle of local wine which came with a sampling of olives, meats and cheeses alongside our bread basket. Next up was our homemade pasta dishes -- spinach ravioli with egg plant and my wife ordered a creamy carbonara recommended by the waiter. For dessert we polished off molten chocolate lava cake with a gooey center and a tiramisu. We rolled out of there happy and full of amazing food with an inexpensive bill to boot. Highly recommended. Tucked in a secondary and quieter Trastevere alleyway, therefore not so full with tourists, this place offers good food at decent prices. I tried the quintessential Roman tonnarelli cacio e pepe pasta, it was well prepared according to tradition. read more

We were pleasantly surprised to see this restaurant didn't close from 3 pm to 7 pm like a lot of places in Rome. The Cacio e Pepe (pasta with cheesy Alfredo and pepper) was fresh made pasta, terrific cheese and the right amount of seasoning. We also had the rigatoni carbonara with freshly cured pancetta and a perfectly incorporated egg. The four cheese pizza was great, but I added the spicy salami and onions because I'm a meat and onion lover. The wine comes by the liter here, which was hilarious and a fun twist to sit on the patio and pour your wine as if it was fresh brewed iced tea. This is a phenomenal restaurant. The ravioli and saltimbocca were the favorites of the night, closely followed by the artichoke and the gnocchi. The desserts were also absolutely amazing. My family is pretty hard to please, because there's so many of us and all of us had fantastic meals. Also the service is great and put up with us, which is really saying something. But the pasta was good and the setting was nice (if a little wild, with noise showering down from the windows of the adjacent school). Thoroughly disappointed by the experience. We made the mistake of ordering the saltimbocca, which was recommended by our waiter. The dish was very very dry and the flavor was way off, We had to give the dish back. Fortunately the waiter gave us a refund for the dish and gave us a lemoncello on the house. This was two of the best meals we had in Italy! Yes, we went back a second time, and we were in town for less than a week. They helpfully gave us English menus and also one in Italian so I could cross-reference things in case of weird translation. We didn't have any of the pizza, but the pasta was excellent. The Sette Oche salad with the pears, nuts, and cheese on greens was also excellent. They also have little slips of paper with their wifi code on it near the entrance by the cat couch! I ordered a bucatini and it was the worst Italian dish I ever had -- wayyy too salty that I can't feel any taste other than salt. The red wine was bland and smelt like pure alcohol. This was flavorful and a nice meal but fell short of expectations and comparison to other places in Rome. The Gnocchi wasn't booming with flavor but still good whereas the carbonara was a better option. The pizza shared with the table was delicious. There is seating outside which was great to see locals wandering the streets but at first we were placed in the basement which felt like a dungeon. The prices were fair. We had lunch here with family. We orderered a few pizza's and they were simply awesome. Great flavors nothing was dominating everything in balance. We ordered Tricolore, Margherita and Alpina. What a wonderful find. Made our way to Tiber Island to dine at Sora Lella, but arrived too late - during riposo. What to do.... Opened Yelp app and spotted this restaurant nearby that was open all day. There it was on a little deserted street. The host was friendly, the young waitress beautiful (which never hurts). The food was excellent. The host recommended their specialty pasta, a spaghetti in a carbonara-type sauce with octopus. Awesome. Also enjoyed carciofo alla Romana and a good saltimboca. Off the beaten path and a place it appeared most tourists didn't go to. Quieter ambiance, not fancy and very simple. The food was also not overloaded with spices and seasonings like salt or anything else that could overpower it-we found it to be quite a refreshing change. The average American who is used to lots of salt, etc may not prefer the simplicity that is offered here-however, if your taste buds are more inclined to feel "less is more" this may be exactly what you are looking for. After reading the reviews, we chose this restaurant for our family of four. There was no wait, and the staff was charming, warm and very helpful.
