As usual bustling, young crowd of folks, always good service here. Food is always reliable, street corn is a signature must get item, the Carne Asada tacos are as always tasty, spicy, and excellent. The red chairs in the front, still as uncomfortable as always, if I had a big a.. I would really be in trouble, more importantly they are just plain bad. I think its a trick so you don't stay too long Ha Ha. Last, bathrooms were Nasty today, I was a bus boy when I was 15 and one thing I learned the bathrooms and kitchens should be clean!! Oh well, everything else was good, not cheap, but if quality is there I don't mind paying for that! read more

WE had heard about this place from many friends, and since we were in the neighborhood one Sunday afternoon we decided to stop in. First, it was super busy, so we did have a little wait, but nothing too bad. It did take our server a while to come over and take our drink and food orders, but considering they were busy, it's probably to be expected. For a taco place, I did find it odd that we had to pay for chips and salsa. We ordered that to start, and it was ok. Not sure if we had to pay for another one when we finished, but we weren't offered a refill one way or another. Between two of us, we ordered 7 tacos for our meal. 3 for me and 4 for my hubs. I got the carne asada, brisket and fish tacos. He got the duck, brisket, shrimp and carne asada tacos. When they came out, they forgot to bring the duck taco, so he had to wait a little longer for that one to come out. The tacos themselves were all pretty good, although a bit smaller than I thought they would be at almost $4 each. As far as taste goes, no complaints. I also ordered a margarita, and my hubby just had a lemonade. The margarita, although also tasty, was pretty small for an $8 drink. Most other taco joints you can get a fairly large margarita that could be shared for that price, but in this case it came in a standard cocktail glass. All in all, the food was pretty good, but considering we came in for a quick lunch that ended up being over $50, I'm not sure this is the best value in my opinion. read more

I love Mission Taco but just was appalled at the service I received last night. Our server was extremely rude! We came in for the late night happy hour. Got there at about 9:50 and our server informed us we'd have to wait until 10 to order tacos if we wanted the special. No worries, we thought wed just order chips and salsa to munch on until then. It was a Tuesday night, not busy at all, and our server passed our table several times without even checking on anything. She didn't ask if we needed anything (which we did). My friend had to constantly flag her down for her attention. Thankfully, there was another gentleman working that actually noticed us. What made this all the more horrible is I was going to cut her some slack because I thought she was just having an off day. NOPE! Her friends came in and sat at a table directly across from us where she proceeded to laugh and catch up with them and continue to ignore us. We honestly were horrified and embarrassed. The other gentleman cleared our table and we were waiting for our checks but no! Our server continued to laugh it up with her friends for another 10 minutes back completely turned to us. Finally, my friend had to interrupt their conversation to tell her we were ready for our check. I thought at least she'd notice how rude she was being and offer us an apology...nope! Really weird! never had service that bad here and I come pretty often. read more

Second time trying Mission Tacos, the first time was amazing BUT this night, the Guacamole was not seasoned and the carne tacos were sooo bland! They over compensated the lack of seasoning for hot spicy sauce! I did not enjoy my food this visit, maybe the cook was having an off night!! read more

To provide some context, I grew up in San Jose California which is well known for their Mexican food. I have been searching far and wide for a good Mexican joint in STL and boy.. I found out. Their food is incredible where I'm happy going here multiple times a week. Their tacos.. they are outrageous. What I love most is the fact that they continually add new tacos every month (not to mention they are only $2 after 10pm!!). Their burritos.. they are delicious. I generally get the 'South Beach.' I've never been to Miami, but having the South Beach burrito makes me feel I've experienced some of the best Miami has to offer. Lastly, their ambiance, is truly one of kind. It's loud and fun but artistic and hipsterie. I truly recommend this spot to anyone and everyone who is near. read more

Came here for lunch after coming from Chicago! I'm giving this place 4 stars not because of the food or drinks but because of the SERVICE! Erica was an amazing waitress she was very kind from the start and when we told her we were visiting from Chicago she gave a whole list of fun things to do! She was very passionate about making her guest feel welcomed. Thank you! Also the food was tasty I appreciated that they had a good amount of vegan options! read more

Had a great time, nice and cozy. GREAT MUSIC. Awesome tacos I had chicken battered fish and chorizo. My date had baked fish and brisket we loved every bite. I love love love the chorizo queso. I sometimes think about it at night. And then I end up at Mission Taco eating my queso with their $2 tacos and shot late night happy hour menu and then sometimes there's a little regret but not really. Sorrynotsorry. The tacos and sides are served a la carte here unless you go burrito. The tacos are great, the brisket is always classic and the fish and shrimp are legit. My favorite ever was the Peacemaker clam taco special which was probably the best taco I ever ate in my life. The drinks are fun, a little pricey, but come after 10 for the happy hour and you'll be fine. Sometimes I feel like trying to make a restaurant appeal to hipsters is with disgruntled servers and now and then I get that a little here. They're all nice and fine, just distant and slow. Saturday night, cold and no waiting. I opted for the wait list and we walked in earlier that originally thought and were seated immediately. Explained to the wait staff we were new and they quickly explained some of their favorites. Mexican streat corn was fantastic, and the shrimp and baja tacos were our favorites, even if we are not much of sea food eaters. I was plesently surprised. The carne asada was definitely my second fave. Fast, friendly service. Great food. We will be back. read more

Session Taco - AMAZING FOOD!!!!!!! - Cocktail Bars Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

The atmosphere here is vibrant. That's the euphemistic word. My wife would say noisy. It's good to know, though - If you want to have a conversation with the person you're with, this isn't the best place. The bare-brick walls are cool to look at, but they also bounce sound around a LOT. We couldn't really have a conversation while we were eating, and that made the wife quite unhappy and ruined her night pretty much. If you want to be seen, or just hang with the in crowd, or it you're used to being in crowded bars, you'll be fine. We came for the food, though. Most of the reviews have been excellent. Of the six items we got, two were in fact excellent, three were just okay, one was bad. The highlights for me were the chorizo and brisket tacos. I thought they were amazing, but my wife didn't like the brisket because she said it tasted like it was cooked in beer. That might be why I liked it. We also had a fish taco (fried), which for me was just okay, but my wife loved it. The other "okay" items were the South Beach burrito, which was mostly beans and rice, and the chips and salsa, which were good but so what? Finally, we both hated the carne asada taco. It had a kind of grilled taste, but it wasn't right somehow - I didn't want to finish it my first bite, which is very rare and surprising. Maybe liquid smoke was used? I don't know, I just know I didn't like it and we normally love carne asada. We would probably come back mid-afternoon sometime. I'd come back for the brisket anytime, even if I couldn't hear anybody I was with. read more

This past weekend's visit to Mission taco was my first visit. I've been to Milagro many times, so my expectations were high for this place. I came with my wife around 6:30 on Friday night. Side bar: I absolutely hate trying to find a parking place in Soulard. Street parking is just a pain any way you shake it. My wife and I ended up parking on the 55 overpass on Lafayette, and then dodged some cars to make it to Mission Taco. The place was starting to fill up quickly, but we were lucky enough to nab a table without having to wait. The bar area was really busy, and looked like it would be a fun place to have a happy hour. This particular location has a very industrial vibe to it. It had the exposed brick and ductwork, along with concrete floors. It's not really my style, as I don't really like the feeling of eating in a warehouse, but to each their own. The food here is really good. We started off with the chips and salsa ($3). It's a bit of shame that you have to pay for chips and salsa, but we wanted to try them. I thought the chips were good. The red salsa was a little spicy, while the green was more sweet. I had the brah'rito, which included carne asada. I would highly recommend this burrito. It's huge and is very filling. My wife got the south beach burrito, and really enjoyed it as well. We got a side of fries to share, which were unnecessary, but were good as well. All in all we had a good experience at Mission Taco. I still like Milagro better, but I'm sure we'll be back at some point in the future. We got out of here for around $35 total. Relatively inexpensive for a Friday night out on the town. read more

Hey Mission Taco Joint, maybe this will get you attention??? ... probably not... First off, the food was excellent. However, the service was dreadful (worst I've had in St Louis). It was like pulling teeth trying to get one of the aloof hipster workers' attention. They circled the restaurant zombie-like in their skinny jeans, a pitcher of water in one hand and their gaze affixed to the floor. I felt like I was an extra in a movie of their collective hangover. Pretty good tacos. Pretty meh service. Actually, not even that bad, but one incident was shifty enough that I can't go above 3 stars. I arrived with my husband and parents in tow, and right away the vibe was kind of weird. Somebody asks us where we'd like to sit, but then when we say a booth, they just say "ok!" and kind of stand there. So we just stand there. We all are just standing there together, being awkward. Finally I ask if we should just pick out a table and they inform us you're to seat yourself. OK, that's fine. But you're a weirdo. Once we've claimed a space, we start going through the menu, and I'm excited! First of all, it's great that so much of the menu is gluten free. Now, lots of people claim they can't eat gluten because they're liars, but my step-mother has Celiac disease and it's the real deal. I love being able to take her someplace where she can eat the bulk of the menu and not feel relegated to 2-3 things. Guac for an appetizer, at a reasonable price of $7. Tasted good. Yum. We all opt for a few different taco varieties, and I get three: beef brisket, baja fish and roasted duck. While the latter was the one I was most excited for - and it was indeed good - that beef brisket taco stole the show. Holy Zeus it was delicious! If you don't get it, you're dumb. All other parties equally enjoyed their tacos. But let's talk about the side dishes. Specifically, how they're meant to be shared but nowhere is that mentioned on the menu or by our server. So what happens? Out of a group of 4, three of us get corn. Do you know how much corn we had at our table? An unreasonable amount, that's for sure! Why would you say something like "hey people - maybe you don't need all that corn?" That's what I'd do. It was good corn and all, but JEEZ that was a lot of corn. Corn for days, I tell ya. The food was great, and reasonably priced. I liked the atmosphere of the place. I'd just say the general lack of common sense from the service staff keeps this place at an A-OK 3 stars. read more

Call me crazy, but I just don't get this place. I go more often than I'd like because it's close, but I make a point of going only after 10 p.m., during their late-night taco happy hour. Otherwise, I'd be mad at myself for overpaying for overcomplicated, fussy hipster "tacos," when I can get simple, delicious tacos down on Cherokee that don't come in a weirdly raw tortilla. Seriously, though--what's up with the tortillas? And why are the chips and salsa not bottomless, given how much they cost? I guess I'm just a hopeless Californian used to free, bottomless chips and salsa when I go out, among other things. (On the other hand, given the proximity to my apartment, please keep the chips expensive! Thanks!) Anyway, I'm giving three stars instead of two because the contents of the tacos actually taste pretty good, but something about those tortillas just really annoys me. Get a comal and grill them for a second, will ya? read more

It's mission taco, how do you go wrong? My favorite spot is definitely the location in the CWE And this one can get a little busy so download the Nowait app if you don't have it and jump in line before you get there. Modelo on draft, fresh made salsa every day (a different kind as well one and one mild). Oh, and of course ... the tacos! My personal favorites are the shrimp and fish but they have plenty of selection for you red and white meat lovers. Plus they have burritos, etc and some really excellent street corn. For you night owls it's $2 tacos and tequila shots after 10 PM. This is truly a saint Louis institution. read more

I came here with hopeful expectations for this taco shop and was quickly disappointed. The food is incredibly awful here - I can still remember the dry taste of the veggie quinoa and how bland the salsa was. The worst part is that I came hungry as ever and ready to devour everything in sight. Instead I played with the food and tried gulping it down. This not so great taco shop gains a star because of the awesome ambience of the spot. It is a great place to come for drinks with friends... after you have already eaten! I woke up in a cold sweat breathing hard, the time was 4:37am. "Chicken Flautas..." I whispered as I laid back down. Sleep wasn't the only thing that was becoming difficult since my first visit to Mission Taco. My relationship with my girlfriend has suffered too. She seems so bland and plain compared the crispy yet ever so soft tortillas, and that tender chicken mixed in a perfect ratio with cheese drizzled with sour cream served in a quad phallic tower of sexiness and desire. And this sauce...red... tasty.... awesome.... I don't know what it is... wait no, it is called Awesome Sauce. I must go back, I have to go back, I will be back. For there is no stopping the amount of Flautas I will cramp down my throat. The decor was pleasant. read more

Ehhhhh. Place was cool looking- full bar, hipster decorations with accompanying patrons to match, high top tables to make you feel a little special, and high ceilings that made you say "ooo000ooohhhahhh high ceilings...fancy"..... Anyways: Very UNAUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD... You have been warned. I was craving mexican food...but all I got was an American burrito.. in disguise. Chips and salsa - too bland, not spicy enough! "The Brahrito" (did I spell it right?) - I liked it the first bite, after the second, just meh. Not enough of everything! "Three little piggies" - the ultimate meh. The BBQ-fusion-mexican burrito just didn't go right. My favorite thing there, was the Churros with the sauce...I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for that though. read more

Absolutely excellent food. 5/5 on that. The only reason I ranked 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the service. The staff was nice, but we sat a verrrrrryyyy long time before someone came to take our drink orders, and again to get the check. read more

The food is good, and the experience is usually fun... until it's time for the check. Every single time I have been to Mission, getting the check paid for is a circus. For some reason, they won't split checks. So when you and 6 of your friends drop in for dinner and drinks, figuring out the bill is akin to cracking the enigma code. The employees get flustered trying to figure it out, the patrons want to throw a stack of cash at the employess, flip the table and run out of the building as if their hair was on fire, never to return. It's 2015, EVERY OTHER RESTAURANT ON THE PLANET CAN SPLIT A CHECK. Next time you hand out a bill to a table of 8, make sure to give them a green visor, cigar, and one of those giant analogue accounting machines... maybe an extra water, it's going to be a while. If you claim it's for your employees, there is no way. No way. The bartender and waitress looked like they were going to burn the place down, after notifying us that they don't split checks. It was a "please don't kill the messenger" look, I am sure they get harassed every single day over it. Mission, I'll make you a deal. You split checks and we will bring back groups people to feast on your tacos. Until then, you get three stars and may god have mercy on your soul. read more

I have been to Mission Taco probably a dozen times. Obviously I don't hate it but also I honestly don't understand why it's so popular. I've an avid lover or any kind of taco and try them at other places quite often. Personally my favorite taco was at Sassy Jack's in Soulard that recently closed with BREAKS MY HEART. They had the most amazing blackened ahi tuna tacos served with equally amazing garlic fries that blows Mission Taco away. Unfortunately i think their location and lack of marketing did them in. Also there are so many places on Cherokee that are way better - especially La Vallesana and Taqueria el Bronco. Great food and GREAT prices! Yes, I'm sure I'll go back to Mission Taco but honestly feel like the place is generally overrated. It seems St. Louisans have a way of over popularizing one place at a time and don't know how to diversify. (ie: Ballpark Village - still don't get that) Bottom line, don't limit yourself to tacos at Mission Taco - it's good but get out there and try other places in town. You'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

Alright. I get it. Mission tack is a joint worth the hype. Not only is it located in fantastic Soulard, but the building itself is so neatly decorated. They had the "garage door" of the building open and it was just perfect on a mild summer night. The tacos were delicious. I chose the shrimp and Baja chicken (fried, of course). The menu offers choices for everyone and I was so pleased with my meal. I am looking forward to going back and trying more taco options (but I already know I'm going to be dedicated to their fish tacos) and even checking out the other locations. I will go back, you betcha! Great date night place or the spot to pick as your "regular" hangout with friends. read more

Meh. I don't really get the hype about this place. I've eaten here a handful of times and have never been too impressed with the food. Their daily salsas and churros are the best things on the menu, in my opinion. I could eat those forever. Don't get the burritos smothered in the ancho sauce; it's basically barbecue sauce. It's not a place that I'd actively seek out to get a bite, but would go if I were with people that wanted to. The staff's cool and the music is good, though. Service is pretty on point as well. One time while dining here, someone who was not my server brought me the wrong burrito and my server snatched it up the moment it hit the table. As far as service and the time it takes it get your food, Soulard's better than Delmar. read more

I have gone to this place 4 or 5 times and the experience has been a bit worse each time. The first time I liked it but thought you were more paying for the trendiness and atmosphere than anything. The tacos aren't horrendous but certainly not anything special. Literally every place on Cherokee Street blows their tacos out of the water and is much cheaper. The grilled fish is pretty good and I got a monthly special one with shrimp that was pretty good too. The rest are mediocre at best. The street corn off the cob is the only thing on the menu I would call awesome and it's not like they reinvented the wheel. Seems like just a bowl of corn, mayo, and cheese. Good, but pretty awful for you too. A couple months ago I had a hankering for a burrito. Living in Soulard and not wanting to go far I came in. Forget the name of what I got but "3 little pigs" maybe? It had pork stomach in it that was so hard it was like bone. I ended up with a pile of this hard inedible substance on my plate and maybe ate a third of the burrito. Waiter didn't seem concerned with how put off I was by the food and charged full price with no offer for something else. But that's the norm apparently. Last night me and a friend are wanting a place around 10:30.. Not wanting bar food and struggling to think of anywhere else in Soulard that would still be open I figured we could try here again.. We got the chile con chorizo and the chicken flautas.. I can literally make better queso with velveeta in a crockpot. Sadly that was the highlight of the meal. The flautas were positively disgusting. Neither of us had more than two bites. Waiter again didn't seem to care that we found the food inedible and charged full price without an offer of something else. Don't worry I learned my lesson even if I was a bit slow. Never ever eat here again. It is for trendy hipsters and people that don't know what good Mexican food is. Chava's just a few blocks away is infinitely better as well as anywhere on Cherokee Street. Hell your average shitty El Maguey location has better food (for less money) than this place. read more

Went here the other day for lunch. Seemed crowded but it wasn't, we got sat down right when we walked in. It was my first time being there, but I came with people who are "mission Taco fans" so I was really excited to be there. I got the south beach burrito. "Smothered" ( but I was disappointed in there idea of what smothered is.. I pictured the yummy white Mexican cheese covering it, when they brought it out it was just a couple pieces of shredded cheese on top, BUT regardless of my misunderstanding of there definition of smothered, it was still delicious ) the burrito was so filling and had this refreshing healthy taste to it which was nice. I only ate half and took the other half home, which microwaved the next day is just as good plus on that one! Also, they were accommodating to my sons food allergies. Which any parent who deals with the stress of going out to eat with a child who is practically allergic to everything appreciates the kind gesture when they are more then willing to work with you. Now, the only downfall to having kids at this joint is there isn't a kids meal. Which I would recommend them getting. Parents need kid friendly options! All in all, great place. Parking is tough but I will be back and look forward to trying new things! read more
