The day after our visit, we heard the news that Session Taco in the CWE is closing and will be reopening soon with a new name and flare. I am excited to see what's next... but selfishly, I really love Session Taco and we had such a fun outing as a family after catching a movie at Chase Park Plaza. Welcome Back! I missed you much, its hard to believe you've been gone from this location for almost three years. However, Kirkwood did a good job filling in for you. I was so excited about your return, that I showed up early for a private party in the new event space downstairs. Which I must say is stellar for a small celebration. I arrived early, so I could sit at the bar and enjoy a refreshing Margarita and it was as good as I remembered. There is just something about a Margarita being made from scratch and shaken just like a Martini, that makes it stand above all the others. First time trying this place. I would say that the service was not too bad but the food was just okay and nothing too special. It didn't make me think to want to come back to try it again. I did come here with a big group and they were busy so it's understandable. The basement had arcades that were free so I took advantage of that and played retro games. I did like the nachos and dip. Excellent service. Great variety in menu options, with a number of vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free options. Loved their queso dip with vegan chorizo. I ordered the South Beach burrito and a limoncello spritz. The former was decent but a little dry (and could have used more guacamole), and the latter was pretty decent, as well. My girlfriend very much enjoyed her quesabirria tacos and Session Margarita. Visit the CWE website for the location-specific menu. Note that some of what I assume are seasonal beverages aren't included. It was fairly loud but not too busy on a Friday night; however, I would recommend getting a reservation for a party of more than two. read more

This location is less rowdy than the loop; a tad bit classier, if you will. Food is the same across this chain so it's no better or worse here. It's just a more pleasant experience overall. Vegans have a few options here like a dedicated vegan taco made with vegan ground beef. They stopped using Impossible Meat and opted for locally owned Hungry Planet Beef (fka Match Meat). Even though I liked the Impossible meat better, I can totally get behind supporting locally owned small businesses (women owned to, or at least they used to be). It's one taco, but you can switch up the toppings to make a vegan variety taco flight. HOW TO GET VEGAN SIDES: The cilantro rice and chopped salad are automatically vegan. The rice is ok, flavorwise. Refried black beans are vegan when ordered sans queso. They taste a bit boring, and only slightly better when you mix them with the cilantro rice. Chile Crusted fries are vegan, you just can't have the accompanying baja sauce. Guacamole is vegan when ordered without the queso fresco. There's definitely more options for vegetarians, but vegans can manage just fine here. It tends to get very pricey at $3-$4 per street taco. By the time you order apps, a taco flight, sides, and a drink, you're at $40-$50 person easily. So watch out for that. read more

We thought we were being smart by going early to Mission Taco Joint, but it was a beautiful night and everyone wanted to sit outside. We took a table in the inside. My drink of choice was their sangria. Very tasty. I know he got two tacos and one of them was duck. He said they were both delicious and that he would get the duck all the time. I got the Baja fish (grilled) and the soft taco. The soft taco was plant based beef. It was very good and very spicy. They only offer one type of dessert (the churros with a chocolate dipping sauce. My girls and I decided to check out Mission Taco. Nice vibe from the sidewalk. Decided to sit inside--very nice atmosphere! Opened the menu, and we were surprised by the variety and novelty of the taco selections. I decided to go with 3 tacos--2 "sure thing" tacos (carne asada) and 1 "adventurous" taco (cheeseburger)... yes, you read that right. Maybe I chose poorly, but the carne asada meat was dry and pretty tasteless--disappointing really. The taco shell was also average, bland tasting. However, the cheeseburger taco (can you actually say those two words together?) was surprisingly good. I love pickles, and the pickles made it work. Fun place, nice folks. I came in probably 45 minutes before closing on a weeknight, so not a busy time. So I was able to talk to my server for a bit, young guy that just moved back from studying at SIU which isn't far away, so he knows the area. I just bought a place in the CWE as they call it, and he was telling me about things to do and also downtown which isn't too far away. But to the food, real creative tacos, I had a beer battered BLT taco, the bacon being what's beer battered, elotas and Margarita and a churro for dessert. I have heard many people rave about Mission Taco, but living on the east side doesn't make it easy to stop by for a bite to eat. Well, we were in the area and had to try Mission Taco. I am very glad that we did. The tacos were delicious! I tried three different tacos. The brisket taco was very tasty! The meat was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. I could have eaten a few more of these. The second taco was the carne asada was good. It had a little heat in it. My favorite taco was the Baja Fish Taco-grilled. I have been to the Mission Taco on the Delmar loop multiple times, however this was my first time visiting the CWE location. Upon first entering I was not impressed with the wait staff, as they were incredibly disorganized with their table seatings. I was in a party of 2 with my girlfriend and their were multiple tables open, however they told me it would be a 10 minute wait. Only after I pointed out one of the several open tables and asked if we could sit there were we seated. Once we were seated our waiter was equally as unimpressive. He was very pushy and gave my girlfriend an I the impression that he wanted us to eat and get out ASAP. The food was incredibly quick and tasty however. I always get the shrimp taco every time I go - it's my favorite; but the Baja fish taco is also very good and you can't go wrong with either of them. Mission Taco is a staple for me. All three STL locations are stellar (even though traffic isn't easy at any of them). All street tacos across the world are unfortunately compared to my favorites at Mission Taco... Few compare. My go-to tacos are the portobello and hot & spicy chicken. The third is whatever I'm feeling that day, but I've enjoyed the grilled chicken. On my latest visit, I went with the seasonal taco which was a Cajun shrimp. It was tasty, but not good enough to make my staple list. I will probably go back to the grilled chicken or try something new next time. Besides tacos, we usually get the queso with chorizo to start. It has a bit of a kick with the chorizo, but not too spicy. The chips are crispy and thick and salty. If I'm having a drink, I go with their house margarita. I'm not much of a margarita fan as they are usually too sweet, but Mission has done a really good job with theirs - not too sweet with a natural flavor and cubed ice. Mission Taco has perfected a handful of tacos, the queso and chips, and their margarita. My only complaint is that chips and salsa aren't complimentary, like most Mexican restaurants.
