Had lunch there for the first time with a friend. My taco was COLD and so was my friend's huge burrito. When I told the waitress it was cold, she looked at me like she didn't understand. She offered to have "them" make a new taco for me, but I didn't want a new one. I wanted a HOT one. And why are there small plates on the table when you arrive with a fork laying on them? I am visiting family in St. Louis and we decided to go into Mission Taco (now Session Taco) because we had a coupon! She had been there before, but I have not. It's street parking and it can be a bit hard to find if it's crowded. There was a sign when we walked in to seat ourselves. Although it wasn't packed the restaurant was still really loud. Our server came over but it took us quite awhile to get waters. We decided to start with the dip trio- which is the salsa, queso and guacamole. They do charge for chips and salsa here, which is kind of a bummer. The guac was fairly standard- good but nothing special. The salsa was decent- it was pretty spicy. The queso was just okay- it reminded me of Velveeta cheese. It was not really warm when it came out so it became pretty solid and hard to dip in. For the entrees I got 3 tacos (regular ground beef, the lobster and the carnitas). I picked these options as it looked like on the menu they weren't spicy. I should have asked the server because they were spicy aside for the lobster one. The lobster and carnitas were my favorite- although the carnitas was too hot for me. I really disliked the regular ground beef one it had a strong smoky spicy flavor. I also got the street corn, which was just okay. The person I went with got the shredded beef bowl. It was also just okay. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. If I did I would ask questions and be more specific with the things I would or wouldn't get. Overall experience 2/5. read more

Everything was wrong with our order. Even after two different conversations with the manager, none of the items in our takeout order was correct. My credit card was also charged twice. As someone who has been a patron of Session Taco since it first opened in the Loop as Mission Taco, it angers me how far this brand has fallen since going corporate. After an evening full of libations and dancing the night away (Jammin at the zoo), our group decided to get some much needed fuel at Mission Taco. Despite us being a group of 10 and arriving around 9:45, they were able to get us seated. After immediately being sat, the server came and gave us water. Shortly after, he came and took our drink and food order. Since I rarely ever eat after 7, i asked if I could get something off the kids menu (small and light), and he let me! I got the kids chicken burrito, which comes with chicken and cheese. Rather than get the rice on the side, he let me put it in the burrito, and I chose the fries for my side. The burrito was the perfect size, and if allowed, I'd totally order again. The chicken didn't have much seasoning, but the rice and cheese made up for it. As for the fries, mine were the only ones that weren't seasoned. While that was a bummer, at least they were well done! Within the past year, I have had two negative experiences. Both times I have ordered takeout. (One time pick up/one time delivery). The orders arrived missing part of the food. Both times the managers on duty were apologetic and nice and made sure the credit card charge reflected what I actually received. One time I also received a "friends and family" discount. Great. But not receiving my full orders was unpleasant considering I had ordering food to feed guests. This was our pick for tacos during our trip to St Louis while staying in Soulard. It proved to be one of our most disappointing meals. The service was fast, friendly and attentive and the vibe of the restaurant decor was bright and fun, so the 3 stars is based on the food only. The salsas, mild and hot, were both hot. They aren't complimentary and we let a lot of it go to waste. While not listed on the menu we ordered basic cheese queso and it was good - thick and flavorful. We ordered a burrito and variety of tacos, plus an order of beef empanadas. The empanadas were decent. I was thankful the beef wasn't overly seasoned. The outside was buttery and flaky, more like a biscuit than the crispy texture I'm used to for empanadas. The tacos were overwhelmed by their toppings, causing the protein to be missed. Or in my case, the meat was so seasoned, almost a burnt taste, that I only ate the toppings and skipped the rest. Stumbled upon Mission in Soulard after stopping in St. Louis for lunch. The neighborhood itself is super cute, historic, and the farmers market was neat to explore and walk through. My BIL has his bachelor party in St. Louis this weekend. On the first night that everyone was there we were strolling around the neighborhood and came across Mission. We needed a little something on the tum tum before a night of debauchery. The place had plenty of seating, but they were short staffed so it took a little while to get seated. Knowing they were short staffed, I provided a little more grace on their service for the evening. We ordered a bunch of tacos, some elote fritters, and some shredded beef empanadas. I ordered a margarita flavored with strawberry agua frescas. Everything we had was just okay. This place definitely caters to the young crowd looking for the trendy tacos in the silver holders. The chips are thicker than normal cantina style, so may not cater to everyone. Unfortunately only able to snag a picture of my own entree this time since the table ended up being super crowded. I got the South Beach burrito smothered in a spicy ranchero salsa. Flavors on point and quality ingredients to create this Mexican staple. Only complaint with the burrito would be that it lacked a crunch to balance out the textures and and element of freshness. Rice was slightly mushy as well unfortunately. The burrito needs some pico or lettuce to brighten the burrito. Some members of the party also got drinks (see pictures) which were surprisingly strong, but on the sweeter side. Rating: 4/5, one of the better Mission Taco's in the area. Attentive service and caters to restrictions/requests very well. Amazing atmosphere for a casual bite. Got home with food to open the street corn (my favorite thing from them) was completely burnt and crispy. Ate one bite hoping it would still taste okay and it tasted like char. Really disappointed in the quality, it looks like they didn't even check it before packing it up. I always visited the Mission Taco in the Central West End location before the fire, and I never had a bad experience. I must say that I'm slightly disappointed with my first experience at the Soulard location. I ordered online to get my order to-go, and the portion sizes were noticeably smaller than if you'd eat inside the restaurant. I always order the same thing at Mission Taco-- a South Beach Burrito. This was the smallest South Beach Burrito I've ever received from a Mission Taco, and for some reason it didn't taste quite as good as I remember it. Just not really worth what I paid for it. I definitely appreciate that all of their to-go packaging is plastic-free and eco-friendly! Both the interior and exterior of this location are very cute, clean, and well-kept. Literally the spice-wise "hottest" Mission Taco location ever. We ordered 6 tacos and all of them were way too spicy for me. I have been their other locations and never had this much spice in taco. Although my boyfriend disagreed and he loved them. So, if you are not a spice freak, or somehow sensitive stomach, I'd recommend mentioning that to waiter. :) They look very friendly. They started us out with free chips and salsa (2 kinds); both salsas were good but I preferred the more mild one. Anyway, today I got a shrimp taco, a friend chicken taco and a pork taco. The shrimp taco was great! My second favorite was the fried chicken taco, which was basically a fried chicken strip with sauce and toppings. I didn't especially enjoy the pork taco, but what it lacked in taste it made up for in quantity - it was really stuffed! Other than that, the service is good and the place looks cool. We had a long day Tuesday and decided to hit up Mission Taco. Great decision. Let's start with the Mission Margarita! Most places only put a table spoon of tequila in their margaritas. Not Mission. It was good and strong and gets you where you need to be. The youngest talked me into getting two of them. The special taco was the Pixie and the squid. While my youngest she's 24, couldn't get past the Asian influence I loved it and wish i had made my grilled fish taco a squid one instead. Not sure how long they will have it on the menu but go try it!! Now they weren't lying about the spicy chorizo. It's SPICY!! I usually don't get tacos from mission because of the corn tortillas.
