We had dinner tonight (12/03/17) and Kelly was an absolutely amazing server! I hope her manager sees this review. She easily handled all of our gluten-free requests, happily accommodated my unusual drink order, brought out plates and brought us refills in a timely manner. She had a very friendly and positive attitude! I'm a townie and I had forgotten about Serranos for several years, but they have really stepped up their game with a great new menu. We all left talking about how good our food was. The Mexican Corn is a must-order side dish, and my chicken enchiladas were fantastic. Definitely coming back. My only regret is that I wish I had left a bigger tip! read more

I love this Serrano's. Their happy hour is great on Sundays. You can get a large margarita for $4! The bar staff is always great too. One simply cannot have enough margaritas and chips and salsa. read more

I never get too excited about this place. It's overpriced, and the food doesn't ever really wow me. The service is kind of all over the place, one time I will have a decent server, the next time could be a totally different story. There is just too many great Tex-Mex places in this city to really waste my precious pennies here. read more

Giving it a couple of stars because the chicken fajitas are awesome and they have fresh made tortillas. Taking away 3 stars because the service at this location is awful. We have been several times b/c it's kid-friendly (my 2 year old can use his outdoor voice and no one cares). Every time, the service is ssssslllllooooowwww...painfully slow and they always screw something up. read more

It's Serrano's... what more can I say? I like that they use real cheese in their enchiladas and their lunch specials are awesome. Not the best tex-mex, but it's reasonably priced, decent tasting and always consistent. read more

We came for drinks after a long day. (Also, we missed National Margarita Day and had to make up for it of course.) The five of us found a spot to sit in the bar area and the wait began. I got "antsy" and asked my friends who got there first if there was a waiter or we had to order from the bar. After being told there was a waiter, I waited for him. (Didn't catch his name unfortunately) After about 15 or so minutes a waitress brings water and menus (still no waiter for drink orders though) *tick tock tick tock* 25 minutes after getting there the waiter comes to get our order. (I've been a waiter so I understand being busy but the bar had quite a few seats still open. Not quite sure what the hold up was all about) We order some cocktails/beers (Serrano cucumber margarita, coco loco, Mexican martini) and watch them sit on the bar top for another 3-5 minutes. (If you haven't caught the theme of "waiting", it only gets worse) The drinks wee decent, but the Serrano one should have been spicier, it tasted like a cucumber margarita. After finishing our initial drinks, we order another round. Again waiting a decent amount of time in between everything and watching our drinks sit at the bar. There was a slight mix up with payment but that was taken care of by the manager. No harm no foul. Overall, decent cocktails. (Nothing out of this world). Nice but SLOWWWW waitstaff. And delicious chips/salsa. I wouldn't be opposed to going back, but it won't be my first choice. read more

Im giving this restaurant 3 stars because the food, drinks and service are always good(ELAMN our server) but tonight was a little different when it came to the atomoshpere. Came to have a couple happy hour drinks with my mom this Saturday evening. We had just received our drinks, and witnessed the manager on duty at the time, named Nicole, start a confrontation with an employee in front of my mom and I and other customers while she was "sweeping." I work in the service industry and it is UNACCEPTABLE as a manager to yell or bring up an isssue with an employee in front of customers. The way she spoke to her employee belittled him and was rude. If you have a problem with an employee please take it to the back or out of sight of the customers. read more

Service was bad, the waiter was impatient and was not organized. Food was not the best.. and he rammed the drink on my finger.

Food was comparable with other Serranos but the service was super slow. Don't go in with a big group and expect any sort of adequate treatment. We went in and had such a hard time getting a table it was ridiculous. They wanted to split us up instead of moving some tables. Very very disappointing. If it wasn't for the hostesses we would not have been seated. read more

OK, so first I'll say, I loved the atmosphere of the place. I liked how it was decorated and they have a large patio that we really enjoyed. I thought it was genius how they handed out magna-doodles to the kids instead of the usual paper and cheap crayons. The service was good...I wouldn't say exceptional, but good. We ordered the queso perfecto (with guac and beef) and while it was REALLY good, I felt like the price ($8) for the tiny crock we got was a bit much. The house made, complimentary salsa was very good also. I ordered the enchilada combo that gave me 3 different flavors (chicken with verde sauce, cheese, and beef). The chicken was good but my least favorite of the three. The beef and cheese ones were absolutely delicious. Came with beans and rice that was exactly what you expect it to be so no complaints about my meal at all. My husband ordered the burger that came with queso, serrano peppers, and onions on it. The toppings were good, but the bottom bun was soggy and the burger tasted like rubber...so we sent it back. He ordered the chipotle brisket in it's place. When this came out, it was at least 75% fat. Which was a real shame, because the sauce was good and what little meat there was, looked tender. We sent this back too because...well you pay for food you can eat, and you don't want to eat fat. The waiter was really understanding and apologetic about the whole thing and the manager we spoke with took both failed entrees off the bill and offered a replacement or a dessert. We declined but we'll be back...we were assured both dishes are normally very good and highly recommended. I'd like to think every cook has a bad night, so we'll definitely come back and I'll update my review accordingly. read more

Found a bug with wings and legs baked into my tortilla. Informed the waiter and manager came to our table and tried to tell me it wasn't and made an outrageous excuse that it wasn't a bug basically calling me and my wife liars. Didn't even offer a discount or anything. Used to come here often will not be returning. Be warned. read more

Visited this location upon first opening. Let me just start with saying the service was outstanding. Lots of smiling faces eager to help. The food and Margaritas were not as good as the service. Beans and rice are totally bland, salsa is ok but tastes like anise, beef and jalapeno sausage fajitas are great, chicken fajitas ok, and carnitas fajitas awful. They had not yet gotten their liquor license and served free margaritas. I would not have paid for these drinks. Totally weak and wimpy. Could be just because they were free. Not too sure if I will go back. read more

Love this place really nice and clean they hv great service drinks are great HAPPY HR Mon-FRI 3-6 try there SANGRIA MARGARITAS ALL I CAN SAY IS YUMMY!!!!! read more

Just left this place and although I am not filled with utter regret about giving it a shot, I'm not too impressed to go back either. Best thing about this place was our waiter Jesus who was on top of things and constantly checked to be sure we were okay. The food came out abnormally fast (like 3 or 4 minutes fast) and when it did I can't say I was all that happy with the result. The tortilla to my burrito was stale and hard to cut through even with the knife provided and the beef fajita was far to fatty. Also, after paying 14 dollars for a rather simple burrito I expect it to be hot which it was not, so I'm lead me to believe it was old and would explain why the food came out as fast as it did. Lastly, the worst part about it all was the disgusting mexican martini that was so overly sweetened that a lesser person probably wouldn't have been able to drink it. Serranos, please recognize Jesus for his hard work because had his service not been as great as it was, this would have been a one star review. read more

Serranos - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

See all

Been pleasantly happy at every experience. And there's been plenty of them. I've probably stopped here a dozen times since they opened, and I'd say 80% of the time I'm 100% happy, 15% mostly happy, and 5% not too happy at all. Good enough for 4 stars though. The times I've eaten AT the restaraunt are probably in the lower 20% more so, since I weigh in the customer service a little heavier, but in general the foods been pretty tasty, the chips plentiful, the hot sauce hot, and the flavors good overall. The alcoholic beverages have been lacking though, lacking alcohol mostly, but flavorful. Just nothing like Trudy's or Baby A's. A good portion of my visits are stop-ins to get something to take home to the family since we have a little one. And in those cases, I've been rather happy with everything. The bar staff has been quick to take my order, and I've typically gotten my food in less than 10 minutes. They even bring by a bowl of chips and salsa while you wait. I've run the gamut on food here, chicken, tacos, enchiladas, shrimp, burritos.. and they all taste pretty good.. the pico they throw in can be pretty spicy since it's made with serrano peppers, but it's good food. Never left hungry. read more

I had one spinach enchilada and a mushroom enchilada. The spinach tasted like it was straight out of a can. Nothing fresh about it. The mushroom enchilada was bland and I was still queazy from the spinach that there was no hope for me liking from bite one. It was a $10 meal and I threw away about $9.50 of it. No bueno. read more

the service is pretty good but the food is horrible, and overprice i mean come on $5.25 per taco with 3 strips of meat, that is insane. read more

Serranos - the service is really good very! the food horrible, and overprice $5.25 per taco that is insane, each taco with 3 strips of meat. - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

Don't order the taco salad. Tasted like bagged lettuce. No sour cream. Cold fajita meat. No taco shell. Could've gotten a better meal at Taco Bell. read more

My family came to visit me from out of town and we decided to try this place out. It is now one of my favorite places. First, our server Katie was the best waitress I've had in such a long time. She let us try out all of their different sauces before we decided what to order and was very attentive and lively. The food was fantastic and authentic. I had the mixed enchilada plate and some homemade tortillas and was extremely satisfied. I will definitely be coming back and bringing friends! read more

Great atmosphere to get together with loved ones and friends! Good happy hours. Try the combo fajitas for two! The charro brands are very well seasoned and the variety of all the meats are great. The generous portions will feed a family of three or four. Must visit. Cool place read more

Gave me food poisoning, the menu had like 3 items to choose from, staff was nice but slow.

Amazing tortillas and flavor, huge portion sizes. Good place for veggie fajitas which can be tricky when you take out the meat.

Dear heavens. So after my last fantastic experience with their chicken fajitas, I'd been craving more. This time was NOT good. My chicken this time was not marinated in delciousness. It was flavourless and bland. Here's the kicker. You might want to sit down. There was GRAVY on top of my chicken. Yeah. Gravy. On top of my sizzling onions and chicken skillet. Needless to say, I'm just not a fan of gravy fajitas. Atrocious. Awful. Abhorrent. Abysmal. Aberration. read more

First time in this restaurant, a typical 3 star , nothing special to say wow. They have to be too serious for the costumers, even i asked for the booth, they gave me a booth but was not clean. I will go few other Mexican Restaurants and try first before i come and visit this place again. read more

What sold me on Serranos, was the first the service we received and secondly the generous portions of food! I had not been to Serranos in five years and then my networking group decided to use the meeting space in the bar for our weekly luncheon. The staff is so accommodating and very understanding that sometimes 20 people show up and other times only FIVE people show up. Nonetheless, they don't charge extra and don't complain about setting up a large table. The server we had was extremely polite and didn't act negative about all the separate checks and gave us plenty of attention. What surprised me the most about Serranos, was that I actually left feeling FULL and SATISFIED! I am so tired of eating at she-she places downtown that end up costing $20 plus tip for lunch and I am hungry again 2 hours later. I ordered a lunch special and enjoyed a fresh salad and a GENEROUS size of tortilla soup. I am a healthy, picky eater and I was pleased by the freshness of the food and of course, the salsa is DELISH! read more

We eat here on a regular basis and it is one of our favorites for Tex-Mex. Never disappoints!

This location is really good. They are consistent. The wait staff is friendly and service is fast.

Eh. We stopped in before a movie and had the Botana appetizer...a huge platter with various fried things. Eerily similar to Tres Amigos on that dish... other than that... mediocre. read more

Sorry Serranos, you lose a star because you went and changed your flour tortillas. They used to have this great homemade taste that I really loved. Now they taste bland and boring, just like something you would buy at the grocery store. Big disappointment. read more

Not bad at all! Nice decor, good service, good atmosphere, and the Pollo Chipotle comes recommended. I'm a real snob when it comes to Tex-Mex, and they did just about everything right the night I went. read more

Meh. Good for bland Mexican food. The south Austin one feels very "chainy."

Met some friends for happy hour and some food. We sat at the bar area and our waitress was great about taking our order quickly as well as delivering prompt service to every new person in our group when they came in as we all sort of showed up at different times. The food was good and everyone has a good time. In my fantasy this place would have a more extensive list of beers on tap, especially more local beers, but alas I can't have everything! read more

There are many TexMex places in Austin TX, but i dare say iwould be hard to top Seranos. The guacamole appetizer (at lower price during Happy Hour) was fresh, lightly salted with a hint of garlic, grape tomatoes and parsley, was delightful. The Shrimp Enchiladas were made with poblanos, carrots, onions and a light suiza sauce that was excellent. I look forward to trying other things on the menu! The atmosphere is a pleasant, not too noisy room with enjoyable recorded music to match the cuisine. read more

I stopped in here on Father's Day for a quick snack before going to meet my father. The service was good, the food... ugh. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and was not impressed. The meat in it had a ton of gristle and I honestly think more bites ended up in my napkin than in my belly. Maybe we caught the cooks on an off day, but just in case I'm going to stick with some of the better tex-mex options in Austin. read more

While Serranos is not our first choice for Tex-Mex we are never disappointed. We love that as soon as we walk in the door we are greeted with the aroma of smoked beef. I think it's important to note that their charro beans have pieces of bacon, smoky delicious bacon. Unfortunately most of their food is kinda ho-hum. read more

Elman gave us just what we needed. Fast service and a great attitude. The food was also delicious!

Decided to see what all the craze was about with their Happy Hour. Very nice hostess, pushy server. I'm all for up selling to get a bigger ticker but he seemed annoyed that we were there for half priced apps and drinks. $3 well liquor (and yes, it's the good stuff) and house margaritas. My disappointment was with the incredibly limited selection of half priced appetizers. We got the variety plate to try several things at once which ended up being $6 and the Bean and Cheese Nachos which didn't represent the description in the menu whatsoever. All we got for the special price of $1.50 was four large chips topped with refried beans and cheese with a few jalapeño slices. Drinks were decent for the price but I'm glad we visited for Happy Hour since I wouldn't be very happy if I had to pay full price for those apps. read more

Walked in at 8:30pm on a Tuesday night. The staff was sweeping the floor and others were sitting at tables at the bar. The way they looked at us was like they were about to close but they don't close until 10:00pm. Our chips were not refilled and the food was sup par. I won't be coming back to this restaurant but I am told the other location is much better. read more
