Tried to have brunch here this morning. Arrived just after 11:00 and there were only a few customers, but no hostess. Waited about 5 minutes and looked around and she finally showed up. There were only a few customers in the restaurant. We were seated and the chips and salsa were delivered within in seconds. I always love the chips and salsa here, but difficult to enjoy with no drinks. We were never greeted by wait staff. While we were waiting two tables were seated and waited on. After about 10 minutes I went to find the hostess, but she wasn't at her station. I found her about 5 minutes later and told her we had not been waited on. She said she would send some one right away. No apology, just a shrug. We waited another 5 minutes and left the restaurant. Guess who wasn't at the host stand when we left. I've been to Serrano's many times and you can count on consistently good food and friendly service each visit. Their margaritas get the job done and the chips/salsa are good. Serrano's gets pretty busy around happy hour and dinner, but the bar is a great place to wait for your table- the bartenders are friendly and make the wait fly by. There's plenty of parking at Southpark Meadows, so even when the restaurant is packed, you'll have a place to park. For a casual dinner in the neighborhood, I'm a fan of Serrano's. read more

One of the best Tex-Mex restaurants in South Austin. the Beef Fajitas were the best I have had in Austin. They use a higher quality cut of beef then most places. They have a watermelon marg that is made from a real water melon not some flavored liquor. I will be back!!!! read more

A great place for a quick family dinner out. Grilled fish tacos are fantastic and I love the black bean nachos. The salsa is perfect! Love this place. We live in the country, so any trip to town, we make a "date night" of it. We eat at this location 1 or 2 nights a week. Always great. Have our regular booth. Food always comes out fast, always tastes great. NOW, the location off Mopac and 71, or sunset valley, that location can eat a bag O' d***ks. Been there 4 times. Sucked every time. Serranos Southpark needs to properly staff on such a heavily promoted night. "Fajita Night" was understaffed to say the least.

I ordered pork tacos and half of the meat that was served was fat. I'm sure that's ok for some people, but for me it's a waste of money. We chose this because the restaurant advertises that it serves fresh healthy Mexican food. Not so much. I'm surprised there are so many good reviews. read more

Food is average Tex mex, nothing special. Watch out for the waiters, we went there in a group and they added extra tip to the bill. For those that paid cash, they did not bring back the change just hoping to keep it all. Ex, paid with a twenty and they expected to keep 8 for tip. I eventually just left thinking it was a really weird miscommunication, but when the added extra tip to the credit card bills of multiple people I realized it was intentional. The restaurant reimbursed the people who noticed, but obviously you can't trust their staff. If you pay with a cc, better check what they charge you. read more

Mixed feelings. We got tired of the slightly downhill food and service at Trudy's and swapped to Serrano's for an easy family dinner. I chose the SouthPark Meadows location for mother's day because we had three generations of mamas who don't like loud noise and a fourth-generation toddler who loves to run outside. Got there and they informed us the outside area was completely closed because nobody was serving out there. Nothing the hostess would do after I pleaded three times. This might be the absolute nicest day of the year, so management is clearly some kind of stupid for not being staffed enough to accommodate the several families who were confused about why the patio was off-limits. I almost turned our whole group around. After sitting in the cold A/C enduring 10 TVs, 4 of which had extreme fighting featured and none of which had the actual NBA playoffs game, we told the waitress that we would do anything to take our food outside, and she helped us relocate immediately! SO. MUCH. BETTER. Krista was so lovely and accommodating, she is literally the only reason I plan to give this place another shot, because everyone else was about to ruin it. I've only been to Serranos a couple of times but all my experiences have been great. Tonight I went in with a group of five others and our service was excellent. The food was great, and our server was very helpful when it came to suggestion about food choices. I didn't catch her name(I think it was jakie) but she was a a young female with long curly hair. I was hesitant to visit Serranos again after a crummy meal at the one downtown, but I had a much better experience at the Southpark Meadows location. I'm still doing the low carb thing, so I wasn't super excited that my co-workers selected a Tex-Mex place where I would be tempted by tortilla chips, but there were lots of items I could eat. I selected the Pollo Bandero ($9.99), consisting of 3 boneless skinless chicken thighs, each served with a different sauce and topped with cheese. I could only eat half, but everything was delicious. Normally this entree comes with rice and beans, but for no extra charge, I got 2 skewers of grilled veggies instead. Nice! I neither drank nor tried any chips, so I don't have a complete idea of quality of this place. But I can tell you that the interior was clean and cheerful and our server friendly and accurate, so I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. read more

In West Texas you'll get authentic mexican food, as in authentic "too greasy not so great" mexican food. In Southern California you'll get authentic mexican food if you're willing to risk your life to go into an area that serves it. But in Austin, all you need to do is go to a Serrano's, all strategically located in great parts of the city. I went to the one at Southpark Meadows, and I hope all locations adhere to the standards at this location. Staff was friendly, not the fake kind either. Our waitress was in a good mood and that says a lot about an employer already. My margarita arrived right away and it wasn't too sweet, or watered down. After skimming over the selections several times, I chose the Chipotle Brisket. I can't resist copying and pasting exactly what that dish is... "Brisket, Mesquite Grilled and basted with BBQ Chipotle Sauce. Served with Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Monterey Jack and Cheddar Cheeses, Spanish Rice, and Choice of Beans". It was just as good as it sounds, and it was one of those meals where you're sad to let it end, and you tactfully scoop up every bit of sauce and cheese into the last bite. With a full and satisfied belly, we ordered one more margarita, and walked out of there very happy. read more

Last night my family and I went to Serrano's to celebrate my hubby's birthday. When we walked in we were greeted and seated right away by a very nice young lady. She took our drink orders quickly and gave us a moment to order. When my hubby asked the server about a special he saw online earlier that day the server quickly told him that was no longer a special and was very apologetic for that special still being online and not updated. She quickly said she was sorry and would get the manager to come talk to us but stated she was sure the Manager would allow us to use that special. When the Manager walked up to our table he quickly let us know that that special had not been good for 2 years and said we could not get our food for that price. Quick to the point he was however when he continued to argue with my hubby about not being able to help us I quickly interfered by telling my family to get up, thanked the manager for his time and proceeded to walk out. The server was so embarrassed, she apologized once again as we walked out and I assured her her service was wonderful. I was not about to have the birthday boy argue with the manager about some $5.00 off the regular price of the meal...Seriously???? Not worth the time or effort. However we did enjoy a great dinner at Texas Road House and the birthday boy was very happy. :) read more

5 Stars for Service. I called at 5 on Saturday evening about a group of 10 to 15 people for the next day. I wanted to surprise one of our group with a birthday cake. Adam, the manager, suggested that the restaurant made a good tres leches cake. I decided to get a whole tres leches cake for our group. When I got to the restaurant a bit early to pay for the cake, I found Adam had set our group up with a great space. He had assigned a waitress, Justine, to our group. The cake was delicious. Went here for the first time last night. We were seated quickly and our server was there immediately. We ordered a couple of drinks which were well made and very reasonably priced. We had the combo fajitas (steak and chicken) for 2 for dinner. The steak was excellent and well seasoned. The chicken was rubbery, it seemed like it was probably cooked and frozen, then microwaved for service. I'll stay away from the chicken in the future, but we'll definitely go back. read more

I've been coming to this location for years and after my last visit, will not be back for a long time. Over the last three years the service at this South Park Meadows location has been steadily on the decline as some other reviewers have pointed out. The food is actually pretty decent even after dropping some items that I used to love from the menu. Of the last four times we've been there, we've had rude wait staff, undercooked meat, bad meal timing (between drinks/apps/dinner), and had to explain to their manager what customer service was supposed to be. The last time I was there I told the waitress I'll never be back and she said "oh, okay". Good luck and hopefully a change in management gets this place turned back around. read more

Went there last night ( Monday @ 6:30pm) with my spouse. Food was just awful. Tortillas were hard as frisbees and we ordered 2 different entree's. My chicken dish was very chewy and dry. Couldn't even eat it. My husband's fajita's were bland and small. He ordered a beer and it came to our table lukewarm. I wanted a top shelf frozen margarita, but they said they only made top shelf margarita's on the rocks. We paid our check and went to another restaurant. Will never go there again. read more

Worst experience ever! Will request to NOT have this server again if we return to this location in the future. We sat for awhile before we were greeted. Server was SO rude. Literally walked up to the table and said "drinks?" She assumed everyone wanted waters since one person ordered a water. My food was cold and I didn't bother telling because I knew we wouldn't be back here again after the beginning of our experience. 30 mins passed and she still did not come back to check on us. Drinks were empty and I had planned on ordering another drink. It took so long that I eventually went up to the bar and ordered one myself. When I came back to the table, she asked if we wanted our check (which we had been waiting for for about 15 mins.) the server made it so uncomfortable for us, we saw her talking and laughing around with another server on multiple occasions looking straight at us. The girl she was talking to, came and circled our table, then laughed and walked away! Horrible! While I do complain mostly about the service, the salsa and drinks were good. Everyone else with me said their food was good. We all agreed the service was poor from the get go. The people around us were helping us out. There was one manager with dark, short hair who helped out more than he probably thought. read more
