We have enjoyed Serranos for years but have not been in a while. Last night we decided to visit this location and was extremely disappointed. First the music was so loud (and horrible) we were unable to talk to each other across the table. Also there was an extremely loud patron sitting behind us that further ruined the location. Now a good part, the waitress allowed us to move after first being hesitant to do so because we would have to use another waiter. We kept her in the location that was not under a loud speaker. The overall atmosphere looked dull, unappealing and was not conducive to a pleasant time. The menu has changed drastically and become much more expensive. I ordered my usual burrito - it arrived much smaller than in the past, not nearly as good and paid $12 - over priced. I would rate it as fair. My wife's meal was also not as good as in the past. Unfortunately, we will have to find a new Tex-Mex restaurant to become our go to place. read more

Came to Serrano's on my lunch break today & Cesar took care of us. He recommended the guacamole w pumpkin seeds on top & it was so good. Had my son's wedding rehearsal dinner here. Great staff, great food. Shane did a great job of accommodating our request for a TV to hook a computer into so that we could show videos of the happy couple. Mia was one of our severs and was great as was all the staff. Good food for the most part. My wife and I used to frequent this restaurant. However last time host was a rude young man. We wanted to sit in a comfortable area and he replied that we had to sit where he wanted to place us in rude voice. I said I thought the customer was right within reason and he continued his tirade. Went to the restaurant on 3/18/2018 @ 5pm. Was quickly greeted by what seemed to be manager on duty. Sat quickly and after we told him it was our first time there, was told about specific items. Very pleasant encounter. Our server, Ceaser, was extremely polite, helpful and was willing to take his time to explain menu items. Glass was never empty and the conversation was entertaining. Food was absolutely amazing. Filling but not sickening like most greasy tex mex. Many options for gluten free. Extremely fresh ingredients. Queso is fantastic. Wonderful Mexican Martinis...ALL YOU CARE to eat flavorful salsa with chips. Entrees arrive hot from the kitchen. Servers remember you (in a good way)! IF you are a SENIOR, you are welcome to order from the kids menu. The beans are the best around..they taste like they come from Momma's recipe. Love Serranos over the years, but have heard a few negatives recently so I figured I would try it out again. I ordered the talapia, topped with shrimp and a ranchero sauce. It was excellent. So I've been going to this Serrano's pretty much since it opened and it's been better every single time. Better in the service, food, and atmosphere. My brother has cancer and can't really be around a lot of people but since it was my birthday and we wanted to go out, we called ahead for the restaurant's help. We asked for a secluded table that was cleaned with a little more care and they really set us up nice. We had our own area up front that you could tell was cleaned well as well as probably one of the best waitresses I've ever had. She was really polite and took care of us well. Again, this wasn't my first great experience at this location but it made me want to give a great review because they really made me feel that my business and family was that important. read more

We have been going to Serrano's since the first one opened, a little place on 71 just past Congress. The food has always been good to excellent. This is an Austin only "chain"; you will not find Serranos outside of Austin, so it is not a chain like Chilis, etc., and it has always been much better than Chuy's, in my opinion! We go at least twice a month, they have the best salsa in town. My husband always gets the beef fajita nachos, and they are unsurpassed by any others he's tried, all over the country! The enchiladas are always excellent, too. We have even brought our relatives from Southern California to eat here and they love it! It is one of the best Tex-Mex places in town (we go to the one on So. Mopac by Best Buy). read more

Great flavor. Had the Bandera which is basically three enchilada's, one chicken, one cheese and one beef. The sauces were very good on each. Salsa was different, sweet taste with some heat. I liked it. Chips however were pre-made not freshly made. The Charro beans needed some help. So I had not eaten at Serrano's in a while (15 years) but recently moved down south and tried the one in South Park Meadows. Being half Mexican I can be very picky about my Mexican food, but I am happy to say that the food I have eaten at this Serrano's is pretty good. The Fajitas are pretty much like the one's I grew up with and the Chile Relleno not too shabby .If it wasn't for all the bitchy babies, I would have given this place 5 stars. We live close to Serranos and this is the second time we eat there. The food is good I don't see why it's rated so low. I had the burrito and that thing is huge very cheesy and big portions. They also make their own flour tortillas so that was a nice plus. So yes go try it it's Tex-Mex but the flavors are good. read more

My husband and I stumbled on this place on a date weekend to Austin a few weeks ago. I will say it didn't look like anything special from the outside (in my opinion), but was pleasantly surprised when we got in. I had the stuffed avocado and thought it was awesome! My husband had the fajitas and said they were also very good. I can't speak to the traditional margaritas, but I had the pineapple chile margaritas and thought they were delicious! Different, not too spicy, and just a suggestion of sweetness. Yum! Our waitress was awesome, attentive, etc. etc. And the food was cheap! Like 3.99 for a dessert cheap! Heck yeah! Overall, great experience! Don't listen to all the negative reviews. Give the place a try! read more

I'm giving this a five star because the grilled fish tacos are the best I've had in the Austin area. They're like how I try to make them at home but better, with an awesome slaw and fresh ingredients...and the chips and salsa are more like what we Yankees are used to , and we have tried a lot of places around the region. Serrano's at Southpark Meadows recently accommodated my wedding reception in their garden room. We had over 50 guests and had originally planned to be on the outdoor patio, but due to the weather, we moved inside. I worked with the manager to choose a select menu for guests. These were printed and waiting for the guests when they arrived. We had 3 servers dedicated to our party and the service was outstanding. The food arrived in a timely manner for everyone and everyone's order was correct. Management allowed my to drop off my cake the day before and they brought it out when we asked. They also brought extra cake plates without my asking and one of the servers got a knife for us to cut it. I was not charged for the use of the room, which is fairly unheard of in the wedding industry, and they charged a standard gratuity for the servers. I was extremely pleased with this experience and highly recommend using them for a private party. read more

By far the best meal I ever ate! I had the brisket enchilads that were covered with a chipotle BBQ sause topped with cheddar and monterey jack cheese with charo beans and rice! It was fantastic! The waitress was awesome, she didn't bother us but did good with keeping our glasses full, chips and salsa hit the table rite as we sat down, the salsa was great a bit on the spicy side but not too hot, and there was a guy walking around the whole time with a tray full of baskets of chips. Then the desert! Peacan and Pralines ice cream serve in a Bunello shell. A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I was eating the desert I literally felt like a little kid and it was birthday! So... I'm pretty new to Yelp, but not to online reviews. I always hesitate to give a place a negative rating, but I've been to this place- Count 'em- FOUR TIMES!! and have YET to have a completely positive experience. I feel that I have given ample time for them to redeem themselves. I'll just tell the most ridiculous stories, as the others are negative but these kind of left me looking stupid, mouth hanging open like, huh...? The first one was my friend, bf, and myself having a bite to eat before seeing a movie at the theater at SPM. I wore this fabulous new white wool coat I had just spent a fortune on 2 days before. We sat at the bar and ordered. The bartender was pretty great, if only to get my friends number, but hey. You take good service where you can get it. So, she orders tortilla soup and when it comes, the waiter dumps half the bowl down my new coat. It's all good, stuff happens. I'm not one of those people that throws a fit to get free stuff when I go places. So what happens from there? The bartender has to TALK his way into getting my dry cleaning paid for, and gets MY FRIENDS SOUP paid for!!! She ate her damn soup!!!! I had to walk out freezing because my arm was drenched!! I never saw a manager that night. When I returned with my dry cleaning bill and told the manager on duty my frustration with the customer service or lack thereof I felt I had received, she pretty much blew me off to speak to the next person behind me... Yeah... #2. Yesterday was my mom's bday. We had done a little bit of shopping for her in SPM (I work over there, so I shop over there alot) We were going to go back to my house to watch a movie and she wanted some chips and salsa to munch on. I suggested Serranos only because they were the only conveniently placed Mexican food place around. She decided to order some food for us to go while she was in there and ate some of her chips and salsa while she was waiting. She sat there for 45 minutes and they never once offered her so much as a glass of water. When the food was done, the bartender just walked by, plopped the bag down on the counter and walked to the end of the bar to eat her own meal... So, Yeah... 1 star. And I think I've finally given them enough chances. I'm done with you Serranos! read more

This update is just for the vegetarian enchiladas. They changed the recipe, they no longer offer my favorite wine cream sauce, they are now served with red sauce. We had dinner tonight (12/03/17) and Kelly was an absolutely amazing server! I hope her manager sees this review. She easily handled all of our gluten-free requests, happily accommodated my unusual drink order, brought out plates and brought us refills in a timely manner. She had a very friendly and positive attitude! I'm a townie and I had forgotten about Serranos for several years, but they have really stepped up their game with a great new menu. We all left talking about how good our food was. The Mexican Corn is a must-order side dish, and my chicken enchiladas were fantastic. Definitely coming back. Beware of the Segregated Happy Hour on Fridays @ Southpark Meadows They have recently segregated the happy hour on Fridays to the patio and bar section only which causes long waits for happy hour if you don't get there early. If you don't want to wait 30-45 minutes you can sit by yourself with the crickets chirping in a large area but you can not partake of the happy hour prices. Cut the bull Serrano's and let everyone enjoy happy hour. read more

I always have the best service here. Josh is the best bartender so sit at the bar! He makes super great drinks. The texmex food is spot on. I usually get the chicken tortilla soup which is huge and the best I've ever had. Fajitas are a must if you haven't tried them yet. Had a pleasurable experience with a young man named Zeke also! I like this place I really do but the food is a little overpriced for some basic stuff. I love the chicken salad and chili rellenos. I think the batter could be a Little better but overall taste was good. My husband usually enjoys the stuffed avacado but this last time he said wasn't as good. Don't even bother with the bar. Drinks are horrible! Way too much sweet and sour in margaritas, we couldn't even enjoy the drink. But I will always go back for the great service and food. read more

I have to say, this place is a weekly pleasure both me and my husband allow ourselves. Even on a tight budget- this place has great appeal!!
