Well, all worked out in the end...
I can't recommend spending any time at the bar, even if it's a short 10 minute wait for your table. The two bros behind the counter managed to insult me twice within the first minute I came over to wait for a table. I won't go into detail but the two didn't mind trading insults about me, which I assume/hope they thought was private banter between the two of them... it wasn't.
Next, I'm honestly not sure if it was their intention for me to hear but the next comment was surely meant to be heard. When the maitre d' came to collect me and J' (who had just joined me two minutes before, I might add), she asked if we had any drinks to add to the bill, to which one of the bros sardonically replied, "Yeah, two glasses of tall water on the rocks." It was pretty awkward since his tone mos def didn't imply any sense of humor, thus we all just ignored him and walked to our table.
J' had the Bellini and I passed on a drink, wasn't really in the mood to order anything from the bar after that experience. The Bellini was okay, not bad, just not memorable.
Then we started with the Bruschetta, which was nice and light, very fresh on the palette. A great way to start the meal, imo. The whipped goat cheese was my favorite of the three.
We then ordered three pastas, small plates, because we prefer to taste as much from a menu as possible. The three we ordered were the cappelletti, rigatoni bolognese, and bucatini carbonara.
First, I should start with sharing we actually received a fourth pasta, the spaghetti, by accident but no harm no foul. However, from the fork full I had it was a bit predictable. I suppose it's what you would expect though and if that's what you are looking for, this is a good dish.
Anyways, to start the Rigatoni Bolognese with lamb was our runner up. We loved the preparation of the rigatoni and the flavor of the lamb was perfectly accentuated by the sauce. Honestly, comparing the
bucatini carbonara to the rigatoni, we were a bit surprised by the dip in delivery... for the bucatini we were left asking, "where was the duck yolk?" Finally, the cappelletti was absolutely amazing, it tasted like spring on a plate. The level of innovation in this dish is incomparable to the rest of the meal. I'm not sure what the story is behind it, however, whatever it is, do more, Serafina. If it's the exec, keep innovating... if it's the sous, let them continue to experiment!
Two last notes on the staff. Our server was amazing, we really liked her, as well as the rest of the wait staff. Everyone was very friendly. Then in the end, we did share with the manager our experience. He apologized immediately and assured us this was not behavior, obviously, that they promote nor allow.
We may come back, eventually, however the damage is done and with so many other restaurants to explore in nearby neighborhoods, it will likely be a while. read more
