I remain convinced that every Sea Creatures restaurant excels at two things the most: small plates and service. Mio Oh Mio confirmed this theory; both were excellent and would be reason enough for me to return. I booked a reso here for after the Pioneer Square Art Walk. Mio Oh Mio is one of the rare spots in the neighborhood that accepts reservations, which are key on such a busy night. The hostess was so lovely and asked whose birthday it was (as noted on the reservation). We were seated quickly in a corner booth-style table. We each ordered wine; for me, I had their only natural wine by the glass, a skin contact orange. (More natty wine by the glass, please!) Our plates were coursed out, and began with the Guinness bread with whipped salted butter (a do-not-miss) and the seasonal heirloom tomatoes with straciatella. Honestly, I could've called the meal there; both sound incredibly simple but I've learned that sometimes, you can tell just how good a restaurant is wbyith its most simple dishes. We had a mid-course small portion of the butter lettuces; as others have mentioned, it was refreshing and light. Our mains were the halibut for my friend and the cannelloni with chanterelles for me, a vegetarian (not on the online menu, a surprise!) We both agreed they were solid but did not stand out like the other dishes. I felt the pasta was a little on the bland side; my friend thought her halibut was a tiny bit overcooked (we still enjoyed.) We skipped birthday dessert (too full) but were treated to complimentary birthday bubbles. As mentioned earlier, truly, the service here is a standout. Total per person, with the 22% included service charge and a tip we each added (10% each) was about $95 per person. For the people griping about the service charge, this allows the restaurant to pay their staff a living wage, and offer health insurance, paid time off, etc. We support!! As others have mentioned, the buildout of the old FX McRory's is reason enough to visit. The brewery is spacious and stunning and the slice spot was bumping. Can't wait to try those next. read more

A friend and I were looking forward to Mio Oh Mio and it was definitely a nice experience with even better service. However, I don't think it's a restaurant where I'd keep coming back to. But that's entirely a personal opinion, of course. Their menu is pretty limited but I get why. It's a small space, small kitchen, but gorgeous space. It was bright and loved the floor to ceiling windows. It was my first time trying Guinness bread, and the texture was surprising. It was good, spongey, not too dense, and the salted butter was delicious- can't go wrong with salted butter. I liked that it had a whipped texture. The pork chop with spinach cream was delicious. My only small gripe about it was that I would have loved at least 60 seconds more on the pan or in the oven. Just a personal preference on how much pink I like to see in my pork. The potato pave was just OK. The butter lettuce with chives was really simple, fresh and the vinaigrette was great. It was subtle. My friend and I shared the large and cleared it. What was to die for, though, was the sticky toffee pudding. I wasn't going to order it at first b/c I was that full, but the waiter strongly recommended it so I obliged. I thought it'd be heavy so I didn't really look forward to it but the moment we both took our first bite -- wow. It was incredible. 10/10 would come back just for that. read more

OMG, you probably already know the genius that lives inside of Renee Erickson and her ability to make phenominal food and outrageously beautiful enviornments into one memorable experience. Our evening at Renee Erickson's Mio Oh Mio, last night will never be forgotten. The service was genuine, warm and left us wanting for nothing. We sat at the bar and the bartender and waitstaff treated us with love and attention. They made our experience WONDERFUL! The food, DO NOT SKIP THE BREAD! I actually ate it for dessert. I now need to go jogging 5 days a week, because this was a calorie FEAST. Don't come here on a diet, because you are going to want to eat the whole menu. The pork chop was incredible. The au graten potatoes where creamy and melt in your mouth phemon. I got the blackened cod and it was succelent! BEYOND heavenly. SO rich and perfect. OK, all that and I think the dinner salad was my favorite flavor... the small size was a generous portion too. I loved the dressing... I think they explained how they made it, but now, sadly I can't recall. IT WAS over the top amazingly fantastically awesome. NOT EXAGERATING! What to order? Seriously, throw a dart and you can't go wrong. Renee also understands wine! We tried three different kinds and LOVED them all. Fantastic! The ambiance... fantastic. I loved the crowd too. The room is small and warm, not too many tables, not too loud. It invites a smart crowd who seem kind,elegant and thoughtful. It's next door to Renee's new cute beerhall and I notice that people go over there while they are waiting for their table to come available. I found this group of dinners surprisingly polite. I want to ask if people recognize HOW GUTSY it was for Renee to purchase this old FX McRory's iconic building and split it into two restaurants. WOW, what a big, bold, beautiful risk this was! It is obvious how she POURS her whole soul into her projects. Seattle really owes her a huge thank you and a hug. This could not be easy to do. She really is turning the cosmopolitian, asthetic, delicious Seattle light switch on -- offering us beautiful, high cultural experiences! She is truly remarkable!!!! I am so HAPPY we have Renee. Renee... if you see this, please know SEATLLE LOVES YOU! You are such a smart, beautiful inspiration to this city. Your hard work is seen and felt. WOWWW If there is one drawback, I think it's only temporary -- don't let it deter you from going, just drive point to point. The neighborhood is very sketchy and kinda scary up two blocks over on 3rd. I know Seattle wants to clean it up, but we walked down 3rd to get there and we shouldn't have. GAH! Drive to the restarant and park off of 3rd, bus to the stadium and walk... Once inside we felt very, VERY safe. I feel like the staff is very prepared to have us ... and they welcomed us as if we were visiting their home. I love seeing the pride they take in working here, as they should. Ate at Mio Oh Mio last night for the first time. I'm always excited to try a new Renee Erickson restaurant, and I'll start by saying the service was great--attentive, warm, and genuinely lovely. The space in the Railspur Building is pretty incredible, but also kind of wild from a functionality standpoint. To get to the bathroom you walk through all three restaurants, what feels like a building lobby, and then down a staircase. For a brand-new buildout, I was honestly shocked there wasn't a bathroom closer to the dining room. The design issues continue once you're seated. We had a reservation for two and were put at a table with one chair and one booth. The tables and chairs are so close together that the host had to pull the table out just so the person on the booth side could get in. Once you're seated, you're basically locked in--leaving means awkwardly shimmying past other tables and backing over someone else's dinner. What really stood out is that this wasn't just our table. I kept watching the host do this for every table she seated while we were there--pull table out, squeeze people in, reset, repeat. It made it feel less like an awkward one-off and more like a layout problem. And if space is already that tight, I don't understand the furniture choice. The chairs are bulky and almost outdoor-scaled. They're cute, but totally impractical for how close everything is. Food-wise: I usually love the cocktail programs at Sea Creatures spots, but this menu was surprisingly basic--martinis, Manhattans, classics, no real creativity or house spin. Compared to her other restaurants, it felt boring. I hope this changes. We shared the beef tartare, lamb ribs, pork chop, potato pavé, and cabbage. The beef tartare was the clear standout--I'd go back for that alone, ideally sitting at the bar with a simple martini and then moving on. The rest was fine but not especially memorable. The server hyped the potato pavé, but it was soggy in the middle with no crispness--more mush than pavé. The cabbage had good flavor but was also very soft in the center. Interestingly, our neighbors ordered the cabbage too and theirs looked different, so maybe the kitchen is still figuring out consistency. I loved my friend's lamb ribs--well seasoned and flavorful. My pork chop was also seasoned nicely but felt a bit boring, and the cook leaned dry and slightly overdone. Overall, I'm rooting for this place. The service is strong and the foundation is there, but the space planning, furniture scale, consistency in the kitchen, and especially the cocktail program need some dialing in. For now, I'd either wait before going back or just sit at the bar, order the beef tartare, and head somewhere else after. read more

Snagged the last spot for Valentine's Day right at opening (5 pm). This a small, intimate spot that seats maybe 30 people. The lighting is low, the music is excellent, and it's giving cozy vibes. Right off of pioneer square you can watch passerby, or in our case the motocross people get out. Service was excellent, our waitress was knowledgeable and the right amount of attentive. Food was amazing! We had the featured Sunday roast dish, which left us with enough to take home as another meal. The lamb was perfect. The oysters come pre-dressed with mignette, and were delicious. The Guinness bread was soft and excellent paired with whipped butter. The red wine was perfection. We removed 1 star for the cocktails. The sazerac was not what we expected, and was too juicy for someone expecting a spirit forward sazerac. The gin&jam was delicious with the Cara Cara marmalade, but didn't pair well with food. I ended up finishing it as dessert. My one call out, granted we walked in at opening, was that the person who sat us didn't look at our reservation. I had flagged my deathly nut allergy, and the fact that it was our anniversary. Because of that, both were missed. I reiterated the nut allergy to my server, but I was left wondering what they do for special occasions. We will absolutely be back! read more

Mio oh Mio is part of Renee's Erikson's trio of restaurants at the RailSpur a complex of 3 former warehouses in Pioneer Square (Lowlander Brewing and Um Po Tipsy). The space is small and intimate but the high ceilings and large windows make it feel more spacious. Like her other restaurants there are a good number of small plates and there are some interesting choices like guinness bread. Predictably, there are oysters, and on our visit, they had 6 Disco Oysters which were 6 bites (or slurps) of perfection. But the our fave was the beef tartare, which was the best I've had in Seattle with the flavor and texture being amazing. As for mains, they had 3 so we tried all 3, and honestly there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. The grilled pork chop was a generous portion and perfectly cooked. The black cod with saffron butter was one of the richest seafood dishes I have had in a good way. The lamb ribs were aromatic and super tender and not gamey. Side dishes also rock, and the potato pave and grilled cabbage were our faves. The winelist has some interesting choices at nice price points and our 2019 Cotes du Rhone really matched well with the mains. We were too full for desserts, so unfortunately we didn't get to try any. Service was flawless and well paced, and it was a very enjoyable dinner. Beautiful restaurant, but honestly the food was pretty average. The beef tartare was tiny, the squash was fine but nothing special, and I really didn't like the cod. It came with this strange fungus that just didn't taste good. The most annoying part was the 22% service charge. We waited forever just to order drinks, and then I got yelled at for taking the wrong route to the bathroom, which is basically a marathon away. We ended up spending over $200 for what was, at best, a very average meal, made worse by slow service and an over the top service fee. read more
