The food was great, and we enjoyed our meals. However, the service could have been better. Our server seemed to be rushed or rather rushing us. He took our drink order and appetizer order and wanted us to put in the main course already. When I told him we weren't ready and he seemed annoyed. After our food was delievered we didn't seem him again until the check arrived. When we asked about ordering dessert to sing Happy Birthday to my son, he again seemed annoyed. We were walking around Manhattan looking for a place to eat, but so many restaurants had long waits. We stumbled upon this place and they were able to seat us quickly, which already felt like a win. The wait staff was super friendly and welcoming from the start. We ordered the calamari, a Caesar salad, and the vodka pizza and everything was really, really good. I honestly didn't realize this was a chain but it was new to us so we checked it out. Half of our party ended up at a different one and walked over to meet us at this one. They said that this one served better drinks and was busier. The restaurant is dimly lit with a fun atmosphere. Our service (Ali?) was really great and he provided a lot of great recommendations. Idk why this restaurant has low ratings, you gotta take it for what it is which is if you want fast, standard, italian food without dealing with the BS of trying to grab a resy months in advance or wait in line for two hours for the best italian food in nyc, then it gets the job done. After a matinee of "'The Outsiders" a good cry and an excellent nap, i was just going to go back to sleep at 9:30 pm, skipping dinner. Then I remembered that I was in New York on vacation! We were a walk in on Mother's Day to a restaurant 30% full a little after noon. Our server Dominick greeted us, took our order (which he missed a beverage for me) and that was the last we saw him. Not kidding. Never once did her or anyone else there asked whether our meal was ok or anything else was needed. Food was very good so not all bad. You could tell the volume is high at this establishment as service was not as attentive as one would like and the tables are very close to each other. We started with the beet salad which was excellent. I had the branding that came with a white wine with cherry tomatoes sauce, asparagus and potatoes. Have you ever eaten something so good, you went back the very next day to order it again? Well that's what happened when we tried Serafina for my daughter's birthday dinner in NYC lol. As soon as we walked in, I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the restaurant was. The dim lighting and the red hues all throughout the dining area really gave a nice vibe. We made reservations for 6:45pm on a Thursday and were seated right away. I ordered the Jalapeño Margarita (my fav) and it did not disappoint. We started with the Calamari and also ordered the Spaghetti Pomodori with Bolognese Sauce, Eggplant Parmigiana and the Spaghetti Carbonara. While we waited, we were served warm bread and olive oil for dipping as well. The Calamari was the perfect appetizer. It was fried perfectly and tasted great with the warm, marinara sauce. The food took a little while to be served but it was absolutely wonderful. The server added fresh Parmesan cheese to our dishes and it enhanced the flavors even more. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana (which isn't served with spaghetti) and savored every, delicious bite. I tasted the other dishes as well and the Spaghetti Carbonara was the best I've ever had. The service at Serafina was great and the food was so amazing, we ordered the same entrees the very next day "to-go" and thoroughly enjoyed it once more. The marinara was excellent, the meatballs were really good and we enjoyed them very much. For dinner I had the Spaghetti Carbonara. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente, just the way I like it. They used bacon instead of the regular Guanciale but I didn't mind it. I still got the smoky goodness that I expected from a good Carbonara. Serafina was a block away from our hotel, and this was our first night in NYC after a long day of travel. No idea why the lackluster reviews--maybe the pasta isn't Al dente? I didn't have pasta at this Italian spot. I had a special, red snapper with tomatoes and capers. The fish was prepared wonderfully--moist, falling apart (in a good way). Tangy, crunchy green beans too! The focaccia appetizer with olive oil was also tasty. The bread was hot, a little crisp, full of herbs. Oh, and by the way--I didn't find out til later that the snapper was 42 dollars (I know my server was working to up-sell)! But it was worth it--I can't remember if I've ever had fish that good. I had a Paloma and basil strawberry martini. They were good, but I think you should stick with wine at this spot. I enjoyed the Sauvignon blanc--served cold and crisp. My server, Alejandro, was very charming and helpful, and I really did appreciate his recommendations, even if they were meant to woo me to spend more money. Very very slow service. Asked for bread and they threw a basket on table with about 5 pieces of cold hard Italian bread. I was very disappointed with my meal and they made it clear that they could care less. The server said, "well they already cooked it. It's too late.'' Also, It took at least 20min after my food came for the manager to stop by. He had ZERO customer service skills. I was truly shocked at the inflated prices and the horrible service.
