We were walking down the street and saw this restaurant and just decided to come in. Oh boy am I glad we did! Inside is a clean modern well it look. Service is excellent. The food was delicious. Tomato sauce, Amazing. My Daughter had the classic spaghetti. My wife had the chicken Milanese a Panini. I enjoyed the prosciutto and straciatella Panini. The prosciutto was high-quality. The bread was good cherry tomatoes, the Straciatella Italian cheese was a perfect combination. They have a full bar with cocktails. Modern Museum of Art and need some lunch, head out the door across the street to a peaceful retreat of M&V. They have a lovely garden, inside seating or outside to people watch. Lunch was grilled zucchini and the most delicious arancini I have ever had- hot, creamy, flavorful- rice cooked well, almost risotto-like. We followed this with a prosciutto eggplant and ricotta panini (huge) greens - simple with O&V. I enjoyed 3 choices meat or cheese- 2 meat and 1 cheese. This was a pleasantly Impressive find in the shadow of MoMA. Got here for a late lunch/early dinner post-museum and shared several salads and appetizer options with a bottle of wine, which seems the perfect thing to do here. I will say that the one item we were a bit disappointed with the Seafood Salad--not terrible, but just felt like mostly clams and mussels thrown over lettuce and overall kind of meh. However, everything else was great. the Traditional Sicilian caponata was excellent. The Eggplant was tasty and forward and plentiful, but came with ample peppers, olives and capers that we fought over. Obviously, given the name, this place is (rightly) proud of their cheeses. I may not have though of Mozzerella as tasting-worthy, but this place will do its best to change your mind on that. The classic tasting of 3 mozzarellas was large and tasty and just wonderful, topped with delicious olive oils. Felt classy--a bit outdated and traditional, but solid. Very friendly, attentive service. A bit pricey for what it is in a vacuum, but then again I would have to guess not really so, given the neighborhood mix of tourist traps and general affluence. read more

This was our best NYC dinner on this trip. Considering our lactose allergy, you would think that Mozzarella & Vino would be a poor choice. It was a VERY GOOD choice. Staff are very friendly and helpful on all levels. All the basics were met in terms of water refreshment and check-ins. We shared a number courses and staff were very thoughtful to split entrees into separate plates. At this price point, this was a very nice unrequested gesture. We ordered four of the affettati (cured meat) options. The were very tasty with distinct flavors which made for a great starter experience. We shared a large seafood salad. This too was extremely well seasoned, but light and very fresh. Also, we shared the spaghetti chitarri. The sauce and meat were perfectly seasoned and not too salty or greasy. Plus the pasta was at the perfect consistency and not overcooked. The texture of everything was sooo enjoyable. For dessert we shared a sorbet and coffee. Also, we had three glasses of wine and bottled water. The total price included tip was $179. We found this a very enjoyable value given the location, quality, and service. It is conveniently located to the City Center theater. The restaurant is small, so I encourage reservations, but I highly encourage a visit. We plan to eat here on our next trip. We stumbled across this place and had a FANTASTIC lunch here. Great service throughout our time, tasty complimentary bread, and some nice complimentary biscotti at the end. But the real reason for the stars? THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. I ordered the lasagna, and was wowed. It's vegetarian and is mushroom based. The pasta sheets seemed to be a darker wheat and was perfect. It was both light enough for lunch and totally satisfying. Everything was the right texture and the tomato sauce was great. My husband got the ravioli special of the day, and while it was a semi-small serving, he loved it. Great flavors and textures throughout. We were still a bit hungry and decided to tack on the cheese plate featuring bufala, burrata, and smoked bufala. Each cheese was so distinct, the tomatoes were sweet and firm, and the basil was incredibly fragrant. This dish is a must here! We came here for lunch after a visit to the MOMA across the street. The flavors are solid and authentic. I got the handmade ravioli. I found the portion size be underwhelming, so I would definitely recommend getting a side or app. They have a nice solarium in the back which has amazing lighting and is a nice respite from the busy city. A friend and I came around lunch time and ordered the calamari and salmon. I really liked the calamari - nothing special, just fried octopus - they just did it right for some reason! The salmon was pretty standard as well, but I had no complaints. It comes with very delicious brussel sprouts on the side. It was such a simple and common dish, but it tasted good and they didn't mess anything up. The service here is great. Since my friend and I only ordered one entree (the salmon), they brought out the dish already divided into two for us, which I found to be extremely thoughtful. They were quick to refill our bread bowl (although I wish they didn't because I ate SO MUCH BREAD) and water. Their olive oil that came with the starter bread was also SO GOOD - which is probably why I ate so much of the bread. It's a pretty casual environment, but still feels very classy. The garden is gorgeous (there was a private event when we were attending) but even the tables inside make it feel authentic but classy. We explored this Italian space and appreciated the quiet in the heart of midtown for dinner. Don't come here if you are looking for a bar scene. We enjoyed some classic Sicilian dishes like caponata and wine. We also tried the mozzarella and prosciutto. We shared some good pasta and caught up on our lives. I did feel the wine was at a premium but the waiter was kind with the pours. I wondered if that was part of the trick or if they seriously want to charge those amounts for 4oz and 6oz. glasses. This is, again, one of those places where I did not order the namesake dish(es): I didn't get either the wine or the cheese, particularly the buffalo mozzarella that seemed to be the restaurant's selling point. This is also one of those places where I scarfed down what I ordered way too quickly. It's a bit pricey for what you get but such is the charm of midtown west. I was pleasantly surprised to see a salmon entree in the very reasonable $25 range, while the pastas were all around $20. I went with the chilled gazpacho and the citrus/fennel salad with avocado - it was disgustingly humid out and I wanted something light and ice-cold. For $16, the gazpacho was just alright, definitely a bit heavier on the garlic than I would've preferred (I hate raw garlic with a fiery passion) with a very generous slick of olive oil on top. The stand-out was definitely the citrus and fennel salad with avocado and olives. I don't think I've tried fennel but the licorice-like taste and crispy texture really went well with the dressing. Absolutely loved this restaurant. I always like to try new restaurants whenever I'm in the city and this was amazing. The service was quick and friendly. We had reservations and got in right away. The food was exceptional. We got the pick 4 cheese and meat platter. So delicious. The prosciutto and buffalo ricotta were the best. We love how the cheese had honey drizzled on it. Then for dinner I got the fettuccine alla bolognese and was quite impressed. The portions weren't huge but they were just right, definitely no leftovers with what we got. We were too stuffed for dessert, but they gave us complimentary biscotti. I felt very compelled to write this review because we sat next to the rudest 20-something year old couple. They acted like such food snobs and were very demanding of the wait staff (I can't stand people like that), when in reality they didn't even know what any of the food was. They seriously asked why "bologna" was on pasta and a series of idiotic questions. Even going so far as to complain that the platter and breadsticks they got "weren't enough." Seriously? I was soooo hungry after the museum visit and bordering on mental collapse. Just then the GF turns to me and says, "Hey, there's an Italian joint across the street. Care to go there?" Blind with hunger I stumbled into this phenomenal little gem. Walk down a couple of stairs into an upscale, dimly lit, long room of dark wood, mirrors and wine glasses. Excellent/informed and knowledgeable wait staff-Ikola originally from Serbia was a gem. His recommendations were exactly what we needed after a few hours of walking. We had everything he recommended- a delicious bottle of Villa Antinori accompanied by ricotta drizzled with honey, pecorino cheese, prosciutto and bresaola. Pasta fit the bill today and we loved the lasagne layered with ricotta, mozzarella, pork sausage and mushrooms. The special was fresh made ravioli filled with spinach, chicken and burrata. Yum. A light seafood salad and a slice of tiramisu rounded out the meal. Reasonably priced, comfortable and excellent service. Divine way to spend a couple of relaxed hours enjoying your company and food. If the restaurant's name wasn't enough of an indication, Mozzarella & Vino's main focus is, well, wine and cheese. Not to be overlooked, however, is the greater selection of antipasti, particularly the arancini. During our first visit, my table started with the arancini cacio e pepe. We devoured them so quickly that I immediately ordered the appetizer again when we returned a few months later. The three medium-sized rice balls are filled with pecorino cheese, sprinkled with pepper, and positioned atop a bed of tomato sauce. Each conical piece has a crispy, breaded exterior, complemented by its smooth and creamy contents. The eggplant "parmigiana" with smoked provola and tomato sauce is another outstanding appetizer. Mozzarella & Vino's menu should really incorporate more eggplant, because the vegetable is very flavorful and well cooked. This dish is an effective spin on the conventional eggplant parmigiana, and an appropriate lead-in to a comforting plate of pasta. While a vegetarian pasta option is hard to come by here, I did have a chance to try the pasta salad when it was available. It's served cold, and includes sautéed summer zucchini, as well as a combination of fresh and sun-dried cherry tomatoes. The overall simplicity and absence of a heavy sauce highlights the pasta itself, which is clearly homemade. We had three appetizer options and all were great, I'd say highlight of the dinner: spinach salad, Faro salad, cheese/tomato/eggplant. I asked our server whether I should go for cheese ravioli or chicken and he replied ravioli. He should have asked me how hungry I was... When the dish arrived it was significantly smaller in portion compare to the other dishes that our table had ordered from the prix fix menu. If I had not had so much bread I would not get filled up with the ravioli as entree even with the appetizers. The flavor was also OK to me so overall a 3 star dish for my taste. if I go back I'd order something else or maybe the ravioli as part of the appetizer dish to share with someone.The portion of the chicken was more generous and fit for entree. It's directly across from MOMA so it's a good spot to grab a drink or bite beforehand. Oddly pretentious for its price point and quality. We had eaten a huge lunch the day that we went so when we stopped in at 4 ish we were just looking for apps and wine. The restaurant was basically empty so we were seated immediately. I was impressed with how beautiful the place was. Everything was pristine and the terrarium where we sat was gorgeous. It reminded me of eating in the Italian countryside (I've never eaten in the Italian countryside but I imagine it's something like this). The menu was pretty short and limited and I was surprised that a place that bills itself as a wine place (with vino in the name, no less) had a really shockingly short wine list. We weren't particularly drawn to any of the bottles on the list and so decided to both order by the glass. I tried the Cerasuolo D'Abruzzo 2014 Marramiero (Rosé) and my boyfriend tried the Ischia Bianco 2014 Casa D'Ambra. He liked his but I wasn't particularly impressed by either. They were fine but I wouldn't have ordered a second glass of either one. We both ordered 2 selections from the cheese/meats section. He had the prosciutto di parma and the parmagiano reggiano, and I had the sopressata and the pecorino. I thought the sopressata was the best selection, but I was underimpressed with the rest. I thought the prosciutto was actually pretty dry, and the cheeses were fine but I've had better for cheaper. I was least impressed with the service. Our server was a little snooty, in my opinion. Sure, we weren't a huge bill, but it was 4 pm and it wasn't like he had any other tables. He made some comments when we just ordered apps, and made some remark when I said I liked the wine like "Oh, good, I just won a bet"....either a weird joke, or he actually made a bet with some people that I wouldn't like the wine. A friend and I came to M&V before we attended a comedy show at Carnegie Hall. It was a short walk away and super convenient since we did not have too much time to kill. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable although it is a bit too close for comfort which is why I did not give the full 5 stars but otherwise I enjoyed my meal here. My friend and I both ordered (pricey) cocktails that were very tasty and we split the mozzarella tasting plate. I loved that they split it up for us so we each got our own plate with half of the portion. For our meals we both got one of the paninis which were also tasty. i am not in this area often so I am not sure how soon I will return but if I am ever in the area again I would stop here for appetizers and drinks. read more
