Ramen ( Large) and Bibimbap with Beef

Seoul kitchen is one of my favorite spots in Newburgh. If you're looking for a home-cooked, authentic Korean restaurant, this is the place. The owner is so sweet, and helps you learn how to enjoy the cuisine as it's intended. The back porch is always a great spot to enjoy your meal with friends when the weather is nice.

I wouldn't peg Liberty Street in Newburgh, NY as a place where I'd find one of the best Korean meals I've tried, but here we are. On the corner of Liberty and Spring sits a wonderful establishment serving up delicious and authentic Korean fare at very reasonable prices. I've walked and driven past Seoul Kitchen countless times but never had a chance to try their food, but I'm glad I finally did. Family owned and operated, this is as homey a place as you can find anywhere. The decor is minimal but welcoming and the backyard is the stuff of dreams. I dined solo and loved every moment and every bite sitting outside on a perfect 70 something day with a nice breeze to keep things comfortable. The kimchi dumplings and seaweed rolls are a must and they there's plenty of vegetarian, seafood, and meat options to choose from for entrees. I opted for the eel over rice, which I loved, but I can see myself trying something new and loving it when I get around to trying it. The owner was very kind and helpful and it was so nice to have her tear a few perilla leaves off a plant and add it to my entree because it took things to a whole other level. Asian fare that isn't for American palettes is hard to come by in the Hudson Valley, so it's a real blessing to have a place like Seoul Kitchen, which offers guests the warmth, generosity and comfort of well cooked Korean food so close by. Highly recommended!

This place would deserve a five just for the fact that while I was there it was only one person who greeted me took my order and served me all the while smiling and keeping up a light conversation until my food arrived. The food was fantastic. I have maybe been to nine or ten other ramen shops and my experience in most was greasy, overly salted broth. Not the case here. Although a little salty it did not overpower it and there was NO GREASE at all in the very tasty broth. I ordered the vegetable ramen and the kimchi pan fried dumpling and both were great. It's a small but neatly kept place I guessing when it is closer to dinner hour she isn't working alone because there is indoor and outdoor seating for maybe forty people. If you're nearby and want to try some really well made ramen, in my opinion, this is probably the best choice within 25 miles

This place is amazing! The lady who runs it is super sweet and the food is so delicious and authentic. The ambiance was very calm and relaxed. 100% would recommend this place to anyone looking for good Korean food.

Finally got to try Seoul Kitchen and it was really good. Tried the pork ramen and kimchi dumplings. Both were excellent. Especially loved the kimchi dumplings. Great portions for the price too. Sat outside in the lovely backyard patio. Excellent personal service.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Seoul Kitchen is a gem, and provides an eclectic lil "spice" to our diverse city! Without this quaint, unassuming corner spot right across from Washington's HQ, our neighborhood would lose something special. Korea has been called the "Land of Morning Calm," and indeed Seoul Kitchen - with its dark wood benches and ancient scrolls on the walls - provides a nurturing spot of refuge for all of us in the Hudson Valley. For the past 9 months, Hee-Won has been faithfully making each piping hot dish for her customers, even when not allowed to seat them - During those times when indoor seating was banned, she has been happy to bring the orders curbside, or will even deliver the food herself if she has the time (and if the grubhub driver will take too long). She's a force of Nature and she stops at nothing to feed her customers! PLEASE help Hee-Won keep the lights on as we endure the "last gasp" of this pandemic before the vaccines do their job! Call the restaurant directly to place an order, or if you must- she's on grubhub! The restaurants make considerably less on grubhub orders (after the fees she sometimes breaks even, which is crazy) - but Hee-Won is available for ALL her hungry customers and she appreciates all support! Thank you to the Newburgh community, for helping our small businesses stay alive -- and MOKJA!

Ms. Heewon was one of the sweetest ladies I've met ! She made her food with love ! The taste and flavor was amazing ! I had the spicy pork ramen I will definitely be back to pay her a visit

All in all, solid 4 stars, and would come back again. Ambience: Came here late August evening for dinner, no dining in yet due to Covid-19. You wouldn't know there's outdoor dining unless you walked inside through the back. The restaurant felt very homey like I've walked into someone's grandparents place, and grandma is cooking. The outside area is the cutest and coziest place with hanging string lights. It was pretty and made it super relaxing on a quiet night. Staff: there were only 2 people working when we arrived. Unsure if both are owner. But 1000% agreed with other reviewers on the cute lady who cooks/prepares the food once we placed the order. Incredibly friendly and very cute. Food: ordered the kimchi dumplings, seaweed roll, and tofu pot. Gave us brown rice which made it healthier. All items were freshly cooked. 1. The kimchi dumpling were good, though wished it had even more kimchi in the filling. 2. Seaweed roll was very unique and tasty; it's japchae wrapped inside a sheet of seaweed and then flash fried. Crunchy on the outside, soft and spicy on the inside. Yum. Best of all, both the dumplings and the roll are homemade. Would get both again. 3. Lastly, I was incorrectly expecting the typical soondubu soft tofu stew; however, seems I have ordered a different type of soup because the tofu wasn't quite the soft tofu and the soup was closer to a ramen broth.

When I was growing up, restaurants had unique theming and quirks vs. the same pinterest-inspired design tricks that you see today. What looks like an unassuming Japanese style rectangular building on the outside is nothing but inside. You are immediately transported to a (somewhat tacky, in a fun way) Japanese home on the inside with those late 1970s vibes. There are water features, like a small Koi pond, and a waterfall inside, which is full of fake cherry blossom trees and a dimly lit scene, complete with purple Christmas lights. Each nook and cranny is a little different and there are tables and booths set throughout, which are meant to put you in your own little corner of this interesting world of a cartoonish Japanese village. The food can be hit or miss, depending on your order and the delightful cheesiness of the decor matches the menu ... with a lot of classics from the 1980s, including American Chinese/Polynesian inspired appetizers. The eggroll here is the best I've ever had. It's enormous and freshly made. It's not the frozen and fried kind ... you can actually see the soft inner-egg later within its fried shell. It's full of chopped pork and seasoned perfectly. It comes on its own silver warning tray and is more the size of a small burrito than anything you'd pull out of a white cardboard container at a traditional Chinese restaurant. Get the eggroll. The tid bit platter is cool ... retro. The menu states that the crab Rangoon are the original recipe from Trader Vics, where the dish was invented. They are smaller than a traditional crab Rangoon, as we know them, and packed with a much more garlicky taste in their creamy filling. The sliced pork is not the dyed red rubbery strips we are used to ... but actual sliced pork with a nice BBQ taste, even with little sauce used. The fried shrimp was not my favorite, dry and bland. The main courses have a lot going on. Sauces, meat, vegetables. They are pretty big and the sauces seem homemade. The house specialties are unique and prepared thoughtfully, many with exotic flavours or strange combinations you won't find elsewhere. The sushi is also done well ... as if it was a real Japanese sushi chef. The staff is very warm and friendly. From the hostess, who could be a NYC fashion model, and makes an effort to seat each table away from other tables when possible ... to the waiter whom has been there for the decades I've been going there and I don't think I've ever seen him not smiling and laughing in all my trips. They play a mix of music with Martin Denny and Henry Mancini lounge classics being my favourite because it really makes like you feel that you are in a different decade. If you ever wondered what it would be like to dine at a fun place in 1978 ... you won't be disappointed. If you like modern and sterile, steer clear of this place. The Yobo is one of my favorites and I often take the long way, through 287 and 84 back to New England after visiting NY it NJ so I can come here.

I wanted so badly to love this restaurant but unfortunately our experience was a letdown and here's…read morewhy ... Location: 5 Stars- located conveniently off 84 makes it a easy restaurant for meal while traveling. Standalone building with private parking lot. Decor: 5 Stars- nice Japanese decor, love the heavy wooden doors, the seating area with the bar and stone waterwall. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant with visible sushi bar, semi-private room, etc. Menu: 4 Stars- It has a lot of choices. The restaurant does advertise as Asian - Fusion so they have dishes from Korea, Thailand, Japan, Chinese, etc. Some rolls seem to be nontraditional. For example, a standard rainbow roll is basically California roll with various raw meat on the outside, theirs added cream cheese inside (which we are not a fan of). Service: 4 Stars - we came here on a Friday night and it was busy. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist and put our name down for a table. She told us we can wait at the seating area. The seating area also had a bar with seats, we decided to just eat at the bar instead. The bartender was new but she was so sweet. She couldn't answer some menu questions so had to ask. She did seemed overwhelmed and after we ordered, we waited a while (over 45 minutes) to get our food hence I deducted 1 Star here. Food: 2.5 Stars - This is where problem lies. I love food and I love Fusion, with that said, the fusion I experienced was not great. We ordered a brown sugar boba tea, it came quite delayed and was too sweet and the boba was hard and some boba did not cooked all the way so they were chewy. We also had a sushi dinner which came with miso soup, 8 pieces of roll (California roll), and 8 sushi pieces of chef-selected fish. The miso soup was another "fusion" example: as if clear broth mushroom soup had a baby with miso soup, this would be it... Except it didn't work well. My pallet was confused, the miso was overpowered by the ginger taste of the mushroom soup and it was missing seaweed but replaced with mushroom, tofu, and crutons (why?). I even double checked with the bartender to make sure we got the right "miso" soup and she confirmed. The actual sushi plate was ok, nothing to rave about. We also ordered a chicken pad thai. A standard pad thai is a stir fried rice noodle dish with peanuts, veggies, scrambled eggs. It's seasoned with dry seasoning so the dish itself is not very saucy. But their par thai was. A bit too saucy and tangy for us. It eats like a Chinese stir-fried noodles which typically are more saucy plus they also added shredded pork floss on top of the dish, which is a Chinese thing. Another dish that was nontraditional but not done well. All in all, not sure if we will be returning here as the food was disappointing. But perhaps the chef is Chinese and their Chinese dishes would be better?

If you check out my posts, we love Korean BBQ. Unfortunately, the meats were all under seasoned. The pork belly was really bland, I tired dipping into the sauces but even that couldn't enhance the taste. My son loves egg soufflé and if you see the picture, this does not compare to the egg soufflés we've been to. Unfortunately, even the kids had a literal bad taste in their mouth. The cooking area was small and the heat not strong enough that after cooking the first 6 half strips of thinly sliced pork belly, we had to wait 7 minutes for the next batch to cook. Yeah, the place does look very deserted but picks up after 7-7:30 pm. Reading other reviews, I'm glad that some people find the place great but for Korean style BBQ and meat flavor, they totally missed the mark. You can definitely improve a lot on this.
